I needed support during a health crisis my dog was going through near the end of her life. I took her here when I was in need of some second opinions about her prognosis, about medicines that a different clinic had prescribed, and about how to keep her comfortable. I went to this pet hospital 3 times. I also stopped by in between appointments for some supportive shots for my dog. Dr. Lawrence, the veterinary assistants, and the receptionist were thoughtful and responsive. They made a difficult & sad time less scary and less overwhelming for me. We take our bunny there for his routine check-ups and nail clipping. The staff is friendly and accomodating and really loves animals. We have recommended friends to Santa Clara Pet Hospital and they have been very happy with them also. Our previous bunny was sick from old age and intestinal issues. In addition, they are equipped with the skills and attributes necessary to make sure the loved pet is made comfortable and well cared for and their family is kept informed and given enough assurances to stay calm. The facility is clean and the waiting area is reasonably comfortable. The observation/examination rooms are well lit, clean, and suitable for the intended purpose. Fantastic facility. We are very picky about who cares for our pets so we are very glad to have this facility so close by. The doctors and staff are all very friendly and helpful. This review is mainly for Grooming Services :I have gotten my cats haircut done many times before at groomers and at vet clinics that provide such services. However, this was by far my worse experience.My cat weights 9 pounds and has long hair. 1. When I dropped my cat off, the receptionist was very rude. She made sure to tell me "they are not pet groomers" before asking me the type of cut I wanted. (Why are you offering a service if you can't do it?) 2. I dropped my cat off at 8:30am (it usually takes about 2 hrs at most places), they didn't finish till 3pm (~7hrs). When I called and asked why it was taking so long they said the clippers get hot so they need to take breaks (Um, what?) 3. When they were finally done, they charged me $85 and this is even though my cat was "doing very well". In all places I've ever taken her the cost was about $50 and they were done in 1-2hrs.4. I had asked for a Lion cut, I don't think they even knew what that was because they did not give her a Lion cut. Didn't cut the hair on her tail at all. Will not be going here again and do not recommend it to anyone. Save your money and time. Read Less

I have a corn snake with a rectal prolapse and was thrilled to find a doctor that knew reptiles.  He took the snake out of the room because I commented a couple times how it looked more red and uncomfortable today. He said he would take it away so I could be comfortable.  She came back all tucked in and stitched up which matched the online research I had done.  It was very reasonably priced and everyone was very nice and timely. When the vet came in he took our pet back for x-rays never once explaining it was going to be around $250 just for the two x-rays.  A $75 office visit turned in to a $400 trip without any warning.  When I asked if the office would be willing to accept payments of some kind, they were extremely unwilling to work with me to pay this off.  I asked for a call back from the office manager that never came, when I called back I was again told the office manager would call me and that person never did!  Very shady practices to not tell of such a high cost.  The people were very nice, until I asked to have the bill spread over a month or two.  Would not recommend! I highly recommend Dr. Jennifer Lawrence and Dr. Steven Piert. Both are great working with my animals (cat and dog) are very patient, caring and explains things well.  I had a small issue with Dr. Littlehale long ago- he misdiagnosed my pet one time (I cannot remember what it was for) but it turns out I was right, he wasn't.  My spouse recently brought our cat to the hospital and had Dr. Littlehale, who correctly diagnosed the cat with diabeties. I have to say I agree with some of the other reviews that Dr Littlehale might not be the most cuddly veterinarians out there but I've taken my dog Janis Joplin to the many other "cuddly and super nice veterinarians" and they have failed to diagnose and and give her complete attention.. rather than finding the underlying reason for her symptoms they would just treat the symptoms momentarily.. furthermore costing me soooo much money! Dr Littlehale took one look at my dog and began feeling and touching and understanding what really was going on.. he explained his reasoning and expectations.. furthermore Dr Littlehale won himself a happy pet owner and furry patient! The good: The receptionists and vet assistants are professional and pleasant. The bad: The vet, Kevin S. Littlehale is not very accommodating. I have speech impediments and he failed to show concern on what I was saying regarding my pet bird, "I cannot follow thru" was his remark in response to one of my concerns, revealing that It was a burdensome experience to have me as a client. I understand it can be frustrating to talk to someone seemingly talking gibberish (not my fault, it is a physiological issue) but he could of asked someone else for help to decipher my concerns, or take the time and ask me to write them down; after all this was my appointment slot I paid $75 for. The vet failed to endure the entire 10 or so minutes of this appointment without showing signs of frustration.  On the other hand,  the receptionist was able to communicate with me without major trouble. It was evident that I was unwelcome. He left without disclosing he was leaving, I still had a question but he did not care, he only cared that the appointment slot was over and poof! he disappeared.  I want a partial or full refund for this appointment, it was not a pleasant experience. We have had only exceptional care and kindness from Dr. Littlehale and his staff for our pet chickens. After one of our chickens had to be euthanized, we received a personalized handwritten note that meant a lot to our family. We feel very lucky to have found such a wonderful pet hospital as chickens aren't the most common pets to have and it's not easy to find a vet who treats chickens. From a logistical point of view, the front desk staff go out of their way to help you schedule an appointment and parking is readily available. I have been going to this veterinarian office for 20plus years. I took my dog in for a rabie update shot and had been told last time they forgot to give my pet 2 other shots. I couldn't go in right away so they said they would not waive the office visit of $79. I could not go because I had major surgery.I mentioned to Dr. Littlehale I was flying with my service pet on June 27th. He said I would have to come in 10 before my trip and pay for another office visit and $25 for a health certificate. It was June 6th .First within a month? He couldn't  let me purchase the health certificate???  That day he didn't even look at Bella! What was the $79 for ? He gave her 3 shots 5 Valium for the trip and then came out of the office as I was paying $180 and again reinforced that I had to come back and pay another $100 between office visit and certificate. I call this straight up greed. I'm disabled and Bella is my service dog. I used to recommend this office to so many friends. I am going to say I use to work with a female vet before then Dr. Littlehale after she left. The man has no bedside manners and is money driven. He actually followed my to the front office to say Again i needed another appointment before traveling. Heads up folks he will take you for every cent he can in my opinion. Benji IS as good as   one gets! HE is sick and Dr Laurence is off till Friday and I do not know what to do I have to live in a Senior place and they want a pet registered and licensed.  to do that you have to either give the pet shots or get a "realise? from the Vet saying your pet does NOT  need anymore shots!  I asked Dr Lawrence to do this for me as I previously lost a cat to VAS - vaccine caused cancerous tumors) but she refused - she wants MONEY!   I went else where and the Vet there DID  release him and I got his tags.  VAS is STILL very   active and since I already lost a cat to it I do NOT want to take any chances.  Ben is mostly an indoor cat and at 15 years does not need any more shots!  See -  critteradvocacy.org or check out vaccine associated sarcoma or Vaccine caused cancer on  the web and you will see I am right! Don't bring your hamster to this hospital!!! The doctor did not know how to handle hamster at all!! He lifted our hamster from its back and scared my hamster, my hamster bit him and he threw her directly to the floor!!!!! WTH! My hamster is making strange sound after we bring her back home and we are very worried if she was injured from the fall. On Feb 24, 2017, I decided to bring in my 13yr old yorkie, Jewels because we were concerned her cough wasn't getting any better and her breathing was getting labored.  (Her primary at another pet clinic was unable to see her.)   Through X-rays, tests and examination, we learned that Jewels had congestive heart failure. Dr Piert was very kind and patient in explaining our options for treatment and what to expect.  Unfortunately, Jewels passed away that same day.  Her heart just gave out.  My regret is not coming to Santa Clara pet hospital sooner.  You can tell the difference of level of care they gave her.  Dr Piert called me and even sent a heartfelt condolence card when they heard jewels had passed.  If you are looking for caring Drs for your furry family member, consider taking them here.  They really do care. One and only! Dr Lawerence is the best, very kind and knowledgable. Doctors were not pushing for surgery, and were reaching out for second opinion when in doubt. They have "day care" for your pets too, decent web site to track stuff and make appointments. We just had to have our precious rat, Eleven, euthanized. He was abruptly lethargic and injured this morning; I won't go into the details. What I will describe is how Dr. Lawrence was so caring and respectful of both us and our little ratter from the moment we walked in the door. We had never met Dr. Lawrence before, but she made us feel we were being cared for by family. She gave us counsel on how we might care for Eleven before we came to the collective difficult decision that he couldn't recover and that this was the most humane choice. She described the process with sensitivity and grace, while also being thorough in her explanation. When Eleven was almost gone she asked if we would like to hold him; we certainly did and appreciated her thoughtfulness. After only spending maybe 40 minutes with Dr. Lawrence, we trust her implicitly and will absolutely return here for any veterinary needs our other rats may have. I love rabbits, but I found there aren't a lot of vets who specialize in them. Most vets just do dogs and cats. I did some research and found Santa Clara Pet Hospital. Yes, they are a drive for me. I live in the Blossom Hill area, but boy is the drive worth it. I'll never forget the day my bunny Simon needed to get his ears cleaned. He hated anyone poking inside his ears. Dr. Lawrence got on the floor with Simon. With Simon between her legs, she began to gently clean his ears as he fought like crazy to get away. She said, "Simon, do you know it's easier to clean a 90 lb dog's ears than it is to clean yours?" and I had to laugh. That's the thing with rabbits. They are strong yet fragile creatures and they need a vet who understands that like Dr. Lawrence does. She specializes in rabbits. She is super caring and understanding, and she's great at answering all of my questions and concerns.My 8 yr old house-bunny Simon recently passed away (thanks Dr. Littlehale for the quick & thorough autopsy to help my husband and I understand what had happened to our little guy, and a big thank you to everyone at Santa Clara Pet Hospital for the beautiful sympathy card). I miss Simon very much. To me a house just isn't a home without a sweet little bunny hopping and skipping and twitching his way down the hallway, so I'm sure in the near future I will get another bunny. When we moved to Santa Clara in 2002, we asked for referrals and my friend highly recommended Santa Clara Pet Hospital. We took both of our dogs there, and always received the best care from the doctors and staff. Over the years, our dogs had to get various vaccines, blood tests, surgeries, dental cleanings, exams, etc. No matter how many times they got poked or prodded, they were always happy to go to the vet. The staff all seemed very aware of animal body language, and could read how animals were feeling (excited, nervous, etc), and spoiled them with lots of love and attention. The doctors were always helpful with their various medical issues, and pricing was reasonable. In 2015, we lost both of our dogs to different types of cancer. Dr. Littlehale was very knowledgeable, but also honest about what he did not know (or could not conclude without testing), and he was always sensitive to what our family was going through. Dr. Littlehale was actually correct when he said one of our dogs might have a tumor on his spine (based on the neurological symptoms). We probably could have saved the money on the MRI. But we really wanted to see a neurologist and do the testing because we just needed to know for sure. Santa Clara Pet Hospital works with SAGE for specialty doctors like the neurologist, oncologist, emergency care, etc. and SAGE was also very good to work with. We have not been in a position to adopt again yet. But when we do, we will be back at Santa Clara Pet Hospital. Santa Clara Pet Hospital, all the staff and all the doctors have done a wonderful job for our family of dogs and cats over the past 13 years. We had a 14 yr old Golden who recently passed an old Siamese who passed at around 20 yrs and one 10 year old Shiba Inu dog who passed from Bone cancer. We currently have a Siamese who is 11 and three Shibas, one who is almost 13 yrs young and a 2 & 1 yr old. They have always taken the utmost care with our animals old and young. They have done operations, OFA XRays, installed micro-chips, teeth cleaning, lasered hotspots, neutering as well as boarding and dog show grooming over the years for us. Dr. Ansorge is a very special doctor. It is obvious she cares deeply for the animals and their owners.  Our dog though wonderful at home, turned into Cujo whenever she would go to the vet.  She was so loving and kind to Goldie even when she was a challenge.  When Goldie had to be put down, she was so amazing with her and us as we had to make such a difficult decision. We received a beautiful sympathy card from her and the staff with a heartfelt handwritten note regarding Goldie and our decision.  The staff was great as well.  I am very thankful to have such a wonderful vet in our backyard. I recently took my tortoise to this hospital because her eye was swollen and she would not open it. When I called the receptionist she was very helpful and nice. When I arrived I was in a room in less than five minutes and the veterinarian was in the room in the same amount of time. The Vet was very nice and was very knowledgeable. She made sure that the tortoise was okay and gave us helpful tips on how to help her stay healthy. This vet even did a fecal test on my tortoise and found that she was carrying pinworms. Thankfully my tortoise was seen by a very knowledgeable and wise vet. If it wasnt for the vet I would have never known about the pinworms for from where I stood I thought my tortoise was healthy but now I know you can never be sure!
