A couple of months ago, I would have given Dr.Tracy 5 Stars, for sure!! BUT....I had an appointment w/Dr.Tracy about a month ago, to help my little wild child, VuVu!  He was alone for the first time in his life and was sooo sad, crying out and howling all the time!!  He was also a matted mess, you see, he was my boy and I truly loved him, but he was just too afraid, even after ten years! I would have given anything to have been able to love him or his sister or brother up...but they weren't having it!!So, I trapped him and brought him to The Cat Doctor, which is what Dr. Tracy said to do, she had said, "I'll do anything to help the little guy out!!"  She called later that day and said he had "a couple" of bad teeth that needed removing and some issues with his kidneys (but not that bad!). And they would clean up his hair balls! I wasthrilled and said, if you think this kidneys will be OK, and we can work to make sure they don't get any worse,,,,let's go for it!!When I picked him up, they said they had to remove ALL his teeth, accept for the tiny ones in the front!!!  THEY CHARGED ME FOR EVERY TOOTH THEY TOOK OUT--EACH ONE SEPARATELY!  They cut off just some of his matted fur!  He was a crazy looking mess!!They charged way too much for "GROOMING" which wasn't even close to grooming, he was knocked out so they must have spend 3 or 4 minutes on it. I asked to speak with Dr. Tracy but   she was nowhere to be found, so the receptionist told me what to do....which was give him canned food for 2 weeks!  I asked if it should buy the the special 'Kidney Food' they sold in the office? She said, "I don't know, I guess it can't hurt". So I bought a whole bunch, at over $2.00 per small can!I asked the receptionist to please have Dr. Tracy call me!  There was no medicine, nothing for his pain and she had no other instructions....just canned food for 2 weeks!! The bill was way over $1,000!!!I respected Dr. Tracy soo much and you could say I even loved her!! I TOTALLY trusted her with all my cats!! I thought she was the best...and she even told me I was right, she was the best and she had earned it!!! I called and again, asked her to call me.  She never did!!My Husband is out burying VuVu right now!!  I'm so pissed off at Dr. Tracy, any feelings I had for her have become pure HATE!  She "promised" to help him!!  But couldn't even return my phone calls!!  Or call me to tell me it was more than "a couple" teeth that had to come out!! It's like she has become a money hungry, egotistical, really good actress!!!My heart is hurting, not only for my dead dude, who got a raw deal on this earth, but also for the lose of  Dr. Tracy, as my vet and my hero!!  Right now, I'm really beside myself,,,my husband made me promise not to post this while I'm sooo upset, and to see how I feel tomorrow!  OK!!It's tomorrow and I feel the same!!  VuVu and I got ripped off, he went over a month with unnecessary pain and I just got screwed!! I love the Cat Doctor & Friends practice. Dr. Tracy goes way beyond in her treatment of our kitties past and present. Her caring staff is a real asset to the practice. Dr. Tracy does a great job of answering all your questions and giving you the best options for your cat's needs. I never feel rushed during appointments. Have been a client of the owner, Dr. Tracy McFarland, for over 20 years. She is the most dedicated, thorough, honest vet I have ever had take care of my pets. For me, that is saying a lot. Have been rescuing cats since 1978, and dogs off/on even longer. She has treated my cats for everything from allergies to cancers, diabetes, hyperthyroidism. Have learned a great deal about cats, their special needs, health and also dying from working with her. She 'tells it like it is'. Have always appreciated that. That way I can prepare, be informed....know what to do with the next similar situation. All the techs, office personnel and additional vets who work there are also knowledgeable, friendly and go out of their way to help. They are also very compassionate. Have had to say goodbye to too many of my precious family members in that office over the years. Every time several of them will give me a hug and I know they hurt, too, loosing a special creature. They are all animal lovers, with pets of their own. The 'prices' may be a bit higher than other veterinary offices, but you know you are getting VERY special treatment for your cat. The doctors, especially McFarland, go to training seminars regularly and keep up to date on medications, treatments, palliative care, food, everything you could need for your cat. One other VERY unusual practice of theirs is to schedule a full 30 minutes for a visit....not just 10 or 15. You do not feel rushed, you know your pet is getting exactly what he/she needs. They also know exceptionally well how to take care of feral cats and will treat them as well as your pet cat. As they understand 'ferals are pets in waiting' for the right loving human!! I don't know anyone who looks forward to taking their cat/kittens to the veterinarian, however when your cat  is not feeling well and showing obvious signs of illness it has to be addressed.Losing sleep the night prior to my visit was a case of worry of what it was going to cost me and knowing I probably wouldn't be able to afford it but had to get my kitty feeling better. Dr Tracy is awesome! We are working together to get my "Choppo" to feel better. I say that because she is informative, knowledgeable and genuinely a caring veterinarian who checks back personally to see how the patient is doing. Thank you Dr. Tracy very much! I have a two year old cat that I fostered for a rescue group out of Lancaster. He and his siblings were one day old when I pulled him and his mother and 4 siblings out of the Lancaster pound...they were scheduled to be euthanized (murdered) the next day. We lost two of the siblings within the first two weeks and got two adopted out to one of my husbands co-workers. The mother was adopted through Petsmart. But I still had one little boy, Moo, left that I couldn't adopt out to anyone because he has a chronic upper respiratory infection.  We've had him to 3 vets, plus a specialist in Woodland Hills and couldn't even get a diagnosis, much less a cure. We've spend nearly $4,000 on him....and not one offer of one penny of reimbursement from the rescue that I was fostering for.So I finally found Dr Tracy at The Cat Dr & Friends, and she did a proper culture on him, (his second culture, the first was done by a different vet and didn't show anything). And this culture found a rare bacteria, that only responds to a few antibiotics.  But, FINALLY!  A DIAGNOSIS! So, thanks to Dr Tracy, we are in the process of treating my kitty properly and hopefully, soon, a CURE.  I took Moo, and my 19 year old kitty to her just yesterday and she spent well over an hour with us. I've never spent more than 15 minutes with ANY vet I've ever gone to. Have you? I can't recommend this vets office strongly enough and I will never take any of my 5 cats to any other vet again. Cat focused practice, everyone was very nice. We did have to wait, but there was an emergency. They evaluated our cat, and since we were there for a less urgent matter (unwell, but not critical), we were kept informed of the situation in general. I felt like they did a good job assessing our cat to make sure she was OK, and then treating in order of acuity!Read Less

One of the best vet's out here! the staff is very nice and the doctor's know what they are doing. I've been with them for over 10 years trusting them with all my cats. Sometimes they are very booked and have trouble to get an appointment right away with the doctor of choice, but they try to accommodate you as much as they are capable of. Read Less

Very good vet for cats, haven't had any other pets that needed anything so I can't provide feedback for other species. My first kitten passed away prematurely due to poor health and they were very helpful and soothing through the process. I have been to other places, but after what I went through and how easy and comfortable the process was (given the circumstance), I will not take my cat anywhere else. Thanks again. Read Less

Absolutely pleased with the service and highly recommend this vet. I have been bringing my cat here for years and can't imagine taking her anywhere else. Everyone on the staff is professional and friendly. Doctor Tracy has always seen my cat herself and I trust her implicitly. Having moved here from the east coast, I have found the prices to be very fair, if not modest, compared to Boston/NYC. I firmly believe everyone here has my cat's best interest at heart. The negative reviews are completely inconsistent with my experiences. I have never had any trouble scheduling an appointment with Dr. Tracy or getting my kitty's prescription filled, either on short notice or well in advance. They call the day before an appointment as a courtesy to remind you. I greatly value Dr. Tracy's personal touch in terms of follow up to discuss or answer any questions (she calls you on the phone either early morning or in the evening) after any procedure (ie blood work) has been performed. Dr. McFarland has been our cat vet since we moved to the Santa Clarita Valley over a decade ago.  We have referred friends and family to her over the years.  She and her staff taught us how to administer IV fluids to our ailing cats when they were in their last stages of life.  Incredible compassion for our cats and our family.  When it comes time to letting our pets go -- which is such an incredibly painful process -- Dr. McFarland and her staff treat us and our pets with the utmost of care.  They offer a peaceful room decorated like a small living room, where you can spend the last moments with your pet.  Also, there are no dogs at this office, which keeps the cats less stressed.  The only downside is that they can be booked.  They are the best cat doctors in SCV and it's a popular office.
