I had been a customer of VCA on Mission.  I was not really satisfied with their service however, their hours were what I needed.  Then I heard users of Nextdoor talking about Companion.  They had approx. the same hours so I gave them a try.  What a difference!Each pet I bring in is viewed as unique.  The care is specific to the pets issues and condition.  Best of all the vets are not following a program as it appears VCA does. And they are not out to extract as much money as possible from each visit which I found very dehumanizing at VCA.The people at Companion are great as is the care they provide.  Even when my cat is dying I know they are working with us to make the right decisions.  I have no regrets and I know I did the best I could for my cat.  And that is what really matters, that I did right by him.   Cheers Kook! Think this is the place I went to for my poor dog with an eye problem. After a few tests he got an antibiotic for his eye and it worked so well that he stopped being difficult when I tried to put it in and would actually come to me. He was all better in a matter of days. Read Less

Finally a vet I can trust in Santa Cruz!I feel like every vet I've been to in SC simply tries to sell you things you don't need and ignore the issue you're coming in for. My dog remained sick for approximately a month on-and-off after visiting a few different vets in the area; of which, these vets never sought to find  the root of the issue. All it took was one visit here at Companion AH. Not only did they perform PROPER testing to ensure everything was working right in my little buddy; but they prescribed antibiotics while the testing came back. My dog does not have diarrhea anymore and, (as usual) testing came back normal, we rounded it down to possibly being just a bad bacterial overgrowth :) thanks to Companion AH, I have my buddy back!I will certainly be back here exclusively (barring out-of-hours emergencies) for Finn to receive top vet care! I took my dog for the first time to Companion Animal Hospital, we saw Dr. Della Tone'...I was very impressed with the time they took to truly look over her entire body. We take her to the beach daily, it did not occur to us to rinse her off each time. So she was prescribed "missing Link" by the doctor to help with her dry flaky skin from the salt water...We started her on this ASAP~ Within 1-2 weeks, if not sooner her coat was free from dry flakes and was nourished again and oh so shiny..I appreciated the time the doctor took for her and also speaking with my husband and I, informing us along the way & educating us... We also got her started on Joint Supplements for preventative measures for her hips, as she is a German Sheppard and prone to possible hip issues... I see that she gets up easier and seems to be jumping more easier... I'm astonished..Also, not to mention she got a manicure so her nails are perfect and a treat from the wonderful staff for her good behavior... If you truly want quality care and education with sincere kindness and concern for your animal, this is the place... My pup has her second set of shots on Saturday 3 hrs after receiving her shots she started vomiting & having diarrhea some w/blood. I suggested an allergic reaction to the shots but the owner of the clinic thought she had parvo & decided on x-rays &IV fluids etc. Ended up with a large vet bill & no parvo. It was a reaction to the shot, had we just treated the symptoms my vet bill would not be so high. I paid an original amount & was instructed to bring back a fresh stool for the parvo test-I did that & within minutes received a nasty call that he would not run the parvo until an additional 120.00 was paid in full. Overall, very happy with the staff and service received from Companion. A coupon for half off on the initial visit helped out a lot with Lily, our 16yo cat. Arrived early to fill out paperwork, ended up waiting a bit longer past the appointment time to see vet. Not a big issue. Would rather they take the time to care for everyone. Spoke with many happy clients while waiting. The waiting room seems a bit more geared towards dogs than cats. Hours are great, open seven days a week with easy parking. Read Less

Can't say enough about this place! From the moment I called them they were so helpful and compassionate. They fit me in right away to see my little Sammy that was very sick..I had thought we were going to put him down but they gave me hope and more options for him. He is now doing so much better and I can't thank the vets and staff here enough. They gave my little dog another chance at life..and for that I am forever grateful. While visiting Santa Cruz, I noticed my 9 yr old dog was having some breathing issues. Not knowing the area, I Yelped "Veterinary Hospital" and read all the reviews for the top listings. I chose Companion Animal Hospital because of the reviews stating how they don't make you feel pressured about treatments. I can honestly say that the reviews were 100% correct. But besides that, they were sooooo good with my dog. She is very shy and they did great making her feel comfortable. They did great explaining what was going on with her, treatments, tests, and just all around very informative. If we didn't live so far, I would make them my dog's regular vet without a doubt!! If you care for your animals like they're your children, then this is the vet to take them to because they'll treat them and you like family just as well. Read Less

CAH has been our family vet for 4 years and we have always been very pleased with them. But I must relate our latest visit. We had to put our dog down due to cancer. The entire staff were so kind and compassionate it was unbelievable. They even went out for coffee for my son to calm him down. They really made a horrible time endurable.
