We recently had an emergency with our nine year old Jack Russell Terrier. He was having massive GI issues and we needed to bring him in to see a doctor right away. The staff found an appointment for us within the hour and we brought our best friend in to be checked. Our dog is foing great now. Dr. Shuman is funny, caring, and has some great stories too. Our dog is always in good hands at Westside Animal Hospital.

Our 16 1/2 year old pup became ill very quickly and Westside was referred to us from a friend. This place has been nothing but amazing from the 1st phone call until now... Dr Martinelli spent 2hrs with us on our 1st visit, knowing that we weren't going to be "long term" customers, was thorough and answered all of our questions, and most importantly, had such an amazing "bed-side" manner... it's nice to know that customer service and personalized service still exists out there. Well done Westside Animal Hospital.

The staff is generally friendly. A vet tech there, however, will let you know how annoying you are - as a customer - with deep sighs. Hey, we don't do this every day. We might make mistakes. We might need you to explain what you are going to do before you do it so we can effectively help you. We might forget when, or if, our animal had shots. Maybe you can cut us some slack. The vets themselves are inconsistent en re explaining their treatment plans. We get the feeling that they want us to trust them without asking questions. One of the vets told us that her recommended treatment was how she's done it for x number of years. That's it. No further justification. How are we to give you informed consent with an answer like that?One of the vets sent us home with a medication for our pet before her test results were back from the lab. The medicine was not appropriate for her condition. This is not a bargain clinic, though you will get bargain service. They may or may not treat you like they care about you returning with your pet. They may not be able to explain to you why they recommend one particular treatment over others. Judging by the reviews, they have a lot of happy customers. If you are the type of person that asks a lot of questions, then maybe this is not the place for you.

I pretty much NEVER write yelp reviews but this vet and its employees deserves a great review. I transferred to this vet from one across town because it's closer to my home and what a great decision I made! I came for an annual exam for my dog, possible vaccines, and update flea/tick/heart worm meds. The facility itself is clean and quaint. But it's the staff that got me! Everyone from the front desk staff to the vet tech to the vet was very sweet, friendly, and showed my dog lots of love. It was obvious they enjoy what they do and adore pets. They were gentle with her despite her being extremely wiggly for the temperature and teeth check. One of my favorite parts was the Vet didn't just give my dog all of these vaccines and meds and accrue unnecessary costs. She broke down my options for me on what my dog really needed as far as medications depending on my location, weather, and if my dog was truly at risk for heart worm/ticks etc. and which vaccines she honestly needed right now to protect her - not just blindly give them all- helping my dog but not breaking my wallet. She was honest with me about even getting some vaccines through a vaccine clinic. They also offered to price match any cheaper medications! I feel like other vets in the past just say and do whatever to get your money, or you have surprise chargers later "oh we did this procedure on her that will be an additional $60" what! But not today! They were very understanding and helped individualize her treatment to my budget. I even brought my newborn baby and a stroller with me and everyone was so helpful getting me in and out the door with dog, baby, stroller, and all walking me out to my car in the rain! Thanks west side animal hospital !!!

Absolutely fantastic place and the staff. We had to move to Spain with our very difficult cat (agreassion and sever anxiety issues from the chilhood). I was extremely nervious about the move: our cat is 8 years old and very hard to deal with. Just a simple visit to the vet becomes a major event. Everybody at the hospital was so friendly and knowldegable abour every detail of what's supposed to be done and the paperwork. We had zero problem at the border clearing our cat from the customs. The doctor supplied us with many useful trips on how to travel with our cat and what to do. Every time I called the hospital (and it was a long process), people knew who I am and everybody was ready to help with whatever. I'm endlessly gratful, guys! I brought my dog in for surgery to remove an aural hematoma and had a great experience.Dr. Martinelli was very concerned for the welfare of my dog and was very informative with the entire process. She took the time to answer my questions and was very easy to talk to. She did a very thorough exam and even found other health issues that I was unaware of. The surgery was difficult because they were unable to sedate him (due to those health issues) and she still did an amazing job. I found them reasonably priced. I have read other reviews on yelp saying they are expensive but that was not my experience. There is such a discrepancy between prices for this procedure and they were definitely on the lower end.The office ran on time every time I came in and I did not wait for the Doc at all. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. You can tell that everybody loves what they do and they enjoy working there. This place is definitely on my list as a go to for the health of my dogs and any future services needed.Thank you Dr. Martinelli and staff!

I have been taking my family's animals here for several years. Dr. Shuman actually saved our yellow lab, Joey's life after he was diagnosed with cancer. He had radiation treatments at Westside and lived for several more years. When he was one week shy of his 15th birthday, not eating, not getting up, and in pain, we brought him to Westside after making the impossible decision to ease him on to his next journey. The staff and docs were so loving and caring. I couldn't have asked for a more supportive and professional team.I am currently not in a good place financially. So, when I saw a coupon for another vet when my pug, Clover starting exhibiting signs of a bladder infection, I took her there. HUGE mistake. At an astronimical cost, they took an unnecessary x-ray (despite being told she is cleared for bladder stones) and then went straight to wanting to do an expensive ultrasound when the meds didn't work.Instead, I took her back to Westside into the caring arms of Dr. Shuman. He looked at the UA the other vet performed and saw that it was very clear she didn't have bladder stones; her pH was very low (acidic). He explained that a low pH doesn't allow stones to form but results in other crystals forming, which cause urinary problems. He is helping me keep my costs low by making over-the-couter suggestions and offering low-cost options.He also treats my other dog, Jane and my mom's dog Cal. They are both happy and healthy!The staff is always kind and helpful. They are always happy to see my pets and get me through the paperwork quickly with lots of smiles.I highly recommend Westside for the best care for your animals.

The staff, themselves, are nice people. Their policies regarding medications is really unreasonable. They prescribed Frontline Plus for my 85 lb dog. She used it for 2 months and ended up with a horrible flea infestation. When I called to get help the person on the phone said "yes, we've been hearing that FrontPlus isn't working." So why did they prescribe it?They do not carry any other flea protection for her size that does not also cover heart worms (which she already has medicine for). I requested them to fax a script to 1-800-Pet Med so that we could get her relief quickly and they refused. They reported to PetMeds that she needs an exam, but she had one in December.They will only provide a paper script to me, which I must mail in. This of course means my poor dog will have to ensure several more days of scratching. And yes, they have a fax machine. This inflexibility when an animal is miserable does not display any empathy or concern for the customer. I think they should show some flexibility here since they do not carry an alternate for her. I have never had a vet refuse to fax a script to an online pet med service.

We LOVE Dr. Logothetti and the whole staff here!After a terrifying health scare with our cat, we were anxious to get him out of the emergency vet and into Westside's care. We have been seeing them as our dog's normal Vet and just love them.They saw us immediately and on a last minute appointment. Dr. Logothetti took the time to explain every last thing that is going on inside our cat's body, and all the different options we have for care at home and making sure he is healing properly.We NEVER feel rushed here, she answers all of our frequent and probably irrelevant questions in a way that really makes us understand. She also takes money into account, and lets us know what is most cost effective, frivolous, etc. THIS is an amazing thing to see in this industry.Their front desk staff is soooo nice and helpful! I moved out of the area and have thought about driving the 2 hours each way to take my dog back here on a couple occasions. I trust them with my dog 100%. I've never had them prescribe not needed tests and the doctors really care about the animals. They are organized, follow-up with you after your appointment and use common sense instead of business practices that make you pay the most possible.My puppy had a ton going on when we first rescued him. Even after a lot of it was taken care of (such as the multiple parasites, infections, ect...) he still had a ton of stomach issues and the doctor was great about getting him back on track and recognizing the problem without doing a ton of tests. We started simple and it worked.I will say that overall their fees are a tad bit higher than other vets I have gone to, however, I think it's definitely worth it. I can guarantee you that I still saved money with them by only having necessary services done. Plus I had peace of mind. I will say their vaccinations were a little high too, so we ended up using VIP for those after his initial ones.

Dr. Shuman is not only an excellent vet but a very warm human being and a pleasure to deal with. I was referred to his practice by a friend whose cats are patients there and am grateful for the tip. The office staff are kind, friendly people. The hospital functions smoothly, despite the potential for chaos given the clientele (human and animal). The fees for procedures that are more involved than an office visit are a little on the high side, which can be a problem in this economy, but I have faith in the skill of the vet and his techs.

Have had animals my entire life- so also have dealt with Vets almost as long. I must say that the care and service my pet received from Westside Animal Hospital was the best I could hope for. It's a long drive for us to get there, but the friendly and patient staff, and really caring and professional doctors there make the experience actually pleasant. The medical care was top notch and I really feel like Dr. Shuman gave me extra years with one of my best friends! Thanks Westside !

i called multiple times and got the referral specialist, sue, who is gruff and stern. then i got in touch with the doctor who said he had plenty of experience in handling the procedure i was seeking....
i called multiple times and got the referral specialist, sue, who is gruff and stern. then i got in touch with the doctor who said he had plenty of experience in handling the procedure i was seeking. then, he changed his mind and said he didn't want to do the work because he didn't feel comfortable after all. what happened to all that experience??? leaves a person wondering if they'll say what they need to to get you in there? also, after weeks of trying to get in touch and being generally ignored by the staff and doctor, given incorrect advice that other doctors were shocked by re: vaccines, i have to say that this vet's office gets a vote of no confidence - not to mention seemingly high prices and gruff/ negligent service.

Dr Martinelli spent 2hrs with us on our 1st visit, knowing that we weren't going to be "long term" customers, was thorough and answered all of our questions, and most importantly, had such an amazing "bed-side" manner... it's nice to know that customer service and personalized service still exists out there. Well done Westside Animal Hospital.

The staff is generally friendly. A vet tech there, however, will let you know how annoying you are - as a customer - with deep sighs. Hey, we don't do this every day. We might make mistakes. We might need you to explain what you are going to do before you do it so we can effectively help you. We might forget when, or if, our animal had shots. Maybe you can cut us some slack. The vets themselves are inconsistent en re explaining their treatment plans. We get the feeling that they want us to trust them without asking questions. One of the vets told us that her recommended treatment was how she's done it for x number of years. That's it. No further justification. How are we to give you informed consent with an answer like that?One of the vets sent us home with a medication for our pet before her test results were back from the lab. The medicine was not appropriate for her condition. This is not a bargain clinic, though you will get bargain service. They may or may not treat you like they care about you returning with your pet. They may not be able to explain to you why they recommend one particular treatment over others. Judging by the reviews, they have a lot of happy customers. If you are the type of person that asks a lot of questions, then maybe this is not the place for you.

I pretty much NEVER write yelp reviews but this vet and its employees deserves a great review. I transferred to this vet from one across town because it's closer to my home and what a great decision I made! I came for an annual exam for my dog, possible vaccines, and update flea/tick/heart worm meds. The facility itself is clean and quaint. But it's the staff that got me! Everyone from the front desk staff to the vet tech to the vet was very sweet, friendly, and showed my dog lots of love. It was obvious they enjoy what they do and adore pets. They were gentle with her despite her being extremely wiggly for the temperature and teeth check. One of my favorite parts was the Vet didn't just give my dog all of these vaccines and meds and accrue unnecessary costs. She broke down my options for me on what my dog really needed as far as medications depending on my location, weather, and if my dog was truly at risk for heart worm/ticks etc. and which vaccines she honestly needed right now to protect her - not just blindly give them all- helping my dog but not breaking my wallet. She was honest with me about even getting some vaccines through a vaccine clinic. They also offered to price match any cheaper medications! I feel like other vets in the past just say and do whatever to get your money, or you have surprise chargers later "oh we did this procedure on her that will be an additional $60" what! But not today! They were very understanding and helped individualize her treatment to my budget. I even brought my newborn baby and a stroller with me and everyone was so helpful getting me in and out the door with dog, baby, stroller, and all walking me out to my car in the rain! Absolutely fantastic place and the staff. We had to move to Spain with our very difficult cat (agreassion and sever anxiety issues from the chilhood). I was extremely nervious about the move: our cat is 8 years old and very hard to deal with. Just a simple visit to the vet becomes a major event. Everybody at the hospital was so friendly and knowldegable abour every detail of what's supposed to be done and the paperwork. We had zero problem at the border clearing our cat from the customs. The doctor supplied us with many useful trips on how to travel with our cat and what to do. Every time I called the hospital (and it was a long process), people knew who I am and everybody was ready to help with whatever. I'm endlessly gratful, guys! I brought my dog in for surgery to remove an aural hematoma and had a great experience.Dr. Martinelli was very concerned for the welfare of my dog and was very informative with the entire process. She took the time to answer my questions and was very easy to talk to. She did a very thorough exam and even found other health issues that I was unaware of. The surgery was difficult because they were unable to sedate him (due to those health issues) and she still did an amazing job. I found them reasonably priced. I have read other reviews on yelp saying they are expensive but that was not my experience. There is such a discrepancy between prices for this procedure and they were definitely on the lower end.The office ran on time every time I came in and I did not wait for the Doc at all. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. You can tell that everybody loves what they do and they enjoy working there. This place is definitely on my list as a go to for the health of my dogs and any future services needed.Thank you Dr. Martinelli and staff!

I have been taking my family's animals here for several years. Dr. Shuman actually saved our yellow lab, Joey's life after he was diagnosed with cancer. He had radiation treatments at Westside and lived for several more years. When he was one week shy of his 15th birthday, not eating, not getting up, and in pain, we brought him to Westside after making the impossible decision to ease him on to his next journey. The staff and docs were so loving and caring. I couldn't have asked for a more supportive and professional team.I am currently not in a good place financially. So, when I saw a coupon for another vet when my pug, Clover starting exhibiting signs of a bladder infection, I took her there. HUGE mistake. At an astronimical cost, they took an unnecessary x-ray (despite being told she is cleared for bladder stones) and then went straight to wanting to do an expensive ultrasound when the meds didn't work.Instead, I took her back to Westside into the caring arms of Dr. Shuman. He looked at the UA the other vet performed and saw that it was very clear she didn't have bladder stones; her pH was very low (acidic). He explained that a low pH doesn't allow stones to form but results in other crystals forming, which cause urinary problems. He is helping me keep my costs low by making over-the-couter suggestions and offering low-cost options.He also treats my other dog, Jane and my mom's dog Cal. They are both happy and healthy!The staff is always kind and helpful. They are always happy to see my pets and get me through the paperwork quickly with lots of smiles.I highly recommend Westside for the best care for your animals.

The staff, themselves, are nice people. Their policies regarding medications is really unreasonable. They prescribed Frontline Plus for my 85 lb dog. She used it for 2 months and ended up with a horrible flea infestation. When I called to get help the person on the phone said "yes, we've been hearing that FrontPlus isn't working." So why did they prescribe it?They do not carry any other flea protection for her size that does not also cover heart worms (which she already has medicine for). I requested them to fax a script to 1-800-Pet Med so that we could get her relief quickly and they refused. They reported to PetMeds that she needs an exam, but she had one in December.They will only provide a paper script to me, which I must mail in. This of course means my poor dog will have to ensure several more days of scratching. And yes, they have a fax machine. This inflexibility when an animal is miserable does not display any empathy or concern for the customer. I think they should show some flexibility here since they do not carry an alternate for her. I have never had a vet refuse to fax a script to an online pet med service.

We LOVE Dr. Logothetti and the whole staff here!After a terrifying health scare with our cat, we were anxious to get him out of the emergency vet and into Westside's care. We have been seeing them as our dog's normal Vet and just love them.They saw us immediately and on a last minute appointment. Dr. Logothetti took the time to explain every last thing that is going on inside our cat's body, and all the different options we have for care at home and making sure he is healing properly.We NEVER feel rushed here, she answers all of our frequent and probably irrelevant questions in a way that really makes us understand. She also takes money into account, and lets us know what is most cost effective, frivolous, etc. THIS is an amazing thing to see in this industry.Their front desk staff is soooo nice and helpful! I moved out of the area and have thought about driving the 2 hours each way to take my dog back here on a couple occasions. I trust them with my dog 100%. I've never had them prescribe not needed tests and the doctors really care about the animals. They are organized, follow-up with you after your appointment and use common sense instead of business practices that make you pay the most possible.My puppy had a ton going on when we first rescued him. Even after a lot of it was taken care of (such as the multiple parasites, infections, ect...) he still had a ton of stomach issues and the doctor was great about getting him back on track and recognizing the problem without doing a ton of tests. We started simple and it worked.I will say that overall their fees are a tad bit higher than other vets I have gone to, however, I think it's definitely worth it. I can guarantee you that I still saved money with them by only having necessary services done. Plus I had peace of mind. I will say their vaccinations were a little high too, so we ended up using VIP for those after his initial ones.

I love all the vets at Westside Animal Hospital. We had an emergency with my golden retriever when I first moved to Santa Cruz and WAH saved the day. The whole staff was crazy supportive and definitely saved Buddy's life. The aftercare was excellent and their concern and compassion for their patients (and their owners) is so genuine. Dr. Shuman is not only an excellent vet but a very warm human being and a pleasure to deal with. I was referred to his practice by a friend whose cats are patients there and am grateful for the tip. The office staff are kind, friendly people. The hospital functions smoothly, despite the potential for chaos given the clientele (human and animal). The fees for procedures that are more involved than an office visit are a little on the high side, which can be a problem in this economy, but I have faith in the skill of the vet and his techs.

Have had animals my entire life- so also have dealt with Vets almost as long. I must say that the care and service my pet received from Westside Animal Hospital was the best I could hope for. It's a long drive for us to get there, but the friendly and patient staff, and really caring and professional doctors there make the experience actually pleasant. The medical care was top notch and I really feel like Dr. Shuman gave me extra years with one of my best friends! Thanks Westside !

i called multiple times and got the referral specialist, sue, who is gruff and stern. then i got in touch with the doctor who said he had plenty of experience in handling the procedure i was seeking....
i called multiple times and got the referral specialist, sue, who is gruff and stern. then i got in touch with the doctor who said he had plenty of experience in handling the procedure i was seeking. then, he changed his mind and said he didn't want to do the work because he didn't feel comfortable after all. what happened to all that experience??? leaves a person wondering if they'll say what they need to to get you in there? also, after weeks of trying to get in touch and being generally ignored by the staff and doctor, given incorrect advice that other doctors were shocked by re: vaccines, i have to say that this vet's office gets a vote of no confidence - not to mention seemingly high prices and gruff/ negligent service.
