Wonderful group of doctors and staff. Dr. Isaacs is one of the most caring vets; she called frequently to follow up on one of my cats, and takes time to explain the rationale behind the need for a treatment as well as explains the treatment options. It's a comfort knowing there is someone there seven days a week . Staff answer the phone promptly even when the waiting room is busy. Technicians are kind and gentle. Read Less

This is a classy, friendly, knowledgeable group of people and the service just keeps getting better. They have perfected the art of teamwork, with each person making you feel like your pet is their very favorite patient. More importantly, the medical staff takes the time necessary to thoroughly examine your pet and answer any and all questions you may have....even if you only came in to renew a couple of vaccinations. Clinic with multiple DVMs. Good for check-ups, vaccinations, and minor first aid. Not recommended for issues requiring consistent, long-term management such as allergies, arthritis, digestive problems, renal or cardiac diseases, etc. because of high turnover of medical staff. Vets come and go frequently, and some seem to be part-time. We've liked every individual vet, but nobody has stayed long enough to get to know our pets. Read Less

I have been to several vets in the 12 years of owning dogs and this one by far is the most compassionate and caring I've been to. All the vets call and check up after each appointment to make sure you're comfortable and the dogs or animals are comfortable. I had to put one of my dogs to sleep and Dr. Tolliver was the absolute sweetest and most compassionate vet ever. She was busy and couldn't take the appointment but even came in during her surgery appointment just to console me and say sorry. Read Less

Worst office ever. The vet is great but the idiots at the front desk should all be fired. Wouldn't be surprised if they got them off the street and just gave them jobs. The doctor, though, is very sweet and knowledge about dogs. She's the first doctor we've gone to who was able to determine our dog's age. Don't come here even if it's convenient. Read Less

Awful place VERY FRUSTRATING TO DEAL WITH - especially knowing our dog was on palliative care because with a 70% rate of malignancy and metastatic cancer from liver mass surgery would not buy her enough time... they seemed to just dump us since we werent $$$. HORRIBLE rude front office & 2 Dr's REFUSED to treat or look at my dog who was treated by Dr. hernandez who doesnt work on the weekend. STAFF Refused to help telling me to go to an e.r. because they were closing and would not take 5 minutes to see her. By the way - they told me this at 5 pm & closed at 6. They said go to an emergency room or call and see if we can squeeze you in tomorrow. The front office said she looks stable really peeing all over herself and with a dog on palliative care - probable she had a urinary infection??????? Really -- to a dog who is a patient there and not our first dog there? You cant look at her to see if this is something to be concerned all night over as we know she is on palliative care???????. AWFUL SHAMEFUL CRUEL to a dog let alone an owner who was growing more frustrated by the second. She was also out of her thyroid medicine which was contributing to her pain. THANKFULLY hearing the story THE RESCUE GROUP community jumped in with some CARING DECENT vet groups and Dr's. Our dog is being treated for the infection and withdrawal from thyroid medication that she clearly had and because and resting as comfortably as she can again now. Read Less

I love Dr Bijlani! She was my vet at another hospital and we are following her to Santa Monica Pet Medical Center. Dr B is very knowledgeable, patient, kind, thorough and good with my little guy. I've seen a few vets with my dog over the years and she has been the best. I would recommend her to anyone and I have .  I am willing to deal with LA traffic to see Dr B again. Lol. Read Less

They really care about the animals they treat. Of course they try and upsell teeth cleaning for dogs. The staff is friendly and responsive. Their phone system is a mess, keep calling and eventually you'll get through.Read Less

Happy with our visit here.  It took a long time finally getting through to someone on a mid-Saturday morning call, but I made an appointment for Sunday morning.  Easy check in process with friendly front desk staff.  All the techs that helped out were helpful, as was Dr. Pirotto.  What made me happiest was they let me know that our dog's problems were likely sound ok.  They let me know up front what worst case scenario costs may be, and let me select from there.  When I told them I wanted to hold off on certain services, they were totally cool with it, with no high pressure sales tactics.  Looks like we found a great local vet for future visits! Sigh...I didn't want to have to write this. I gave them chance after chance after chance for the past 5 years....but it just keeps getting worse. They are only concerned with $$$$ and not the actual root cause of your pet's issue and treatment plan. I have been in there at least 7 times over the past 2 years for the EXACT SAME REASON....my pug gets recurring urinary tract infections. I recently learned this is due to a neurological compression of her lower spinal cord (diagnosed by a neurologist that I found on my own and NOT recommended by SMPMC) so she doesn't have as much feeling/sensation and therefore isn't emptying her bladder resulting in infections. Did SMPC ever suggest this? Nope. They just wanted me to come in every time it happened (~2 months) for a full exam and urine culture analysis that then requires another one weeks later. We're talking ~$400 each visit. Don't get me wrong....I'm more than happy to spend money on my baby if she's getting better. But it's the same answer and solution every time. The EXACT same antibiotic treatment and schedule. No suggestion and education on how to express her bladder to help avoid these in the future. Nope, nothing like that. They want me to keep coming back and spending $$. So today she's has another one. I call to ask if they can just prescribe the antibiotics....nope. They never actually did the culture last time. Hmmm? Then why was I charged so much money. Literally minutes later someone else comes on the phone saying oh yes, they did the culture. But now they need a new one because that was over two months ago (it was on 23-July when they called me about this....we're literally 5 days past 2 months). THEN, they try to tell me that since she hasn't seen an actual vet in 6+ months she needs to come in for a full exam plus full urine culture. Sigh....I have records showing she saw two different vets at SMPMC in the past 6 months. Not only that she's seen a neurologist, a PT vet, and another vet out of the area who all sent records of their findings to SMPMC. So yeah....WTF is going on here??? And then to top it all off, the "Sr. Tech" calls me and starts in on how if I truly cared about my dog I would do whatever is necessary.....is she DUCKING kidding me??!!! I have spent THOUSANDS of dollars doing this and have gotten zero answers/follow up from SMPMC. So I will be taking my business and $$$ elsewhere jerks. DO NOT waste your time and money here. They don't actually care about your pets and how to keep them healthy and happy.Read Less

i have been coming here for a dozen years, since I moved to Santa Monica. I love all of the staff so much, Robin is amazing -- so please be nice to them!! I have seen Dr Yuan when my beloved dr Tony G is not available, and my 3 big dogs are always in great hands, no matter whose hands they are. Santa Monica Pet Medical Center just keeps getting better. We have been through a lot with our dogs and the staff has always given beyond the call of duty. We just introduced our new puppy to the medical center. Dr. Issacs is a wonderful, caring professional. The office staff is very kind and considerate and the office is even better with the addition of Carli as office manager. The services are on the high end, but if you love your dogs the way we do, it is worth every penny when you get such great medical care. Read Less

Our dog had injured her back, and we made an appointment with Dr George. He gave her a thorough exam, explained the treatment options while recommending the least invasive option as a first-line, and generally reassured us. He also called us with her lab results as promised! Would definitely recommend Santa Monica Pet Medical. The staff is friendly and professional as well. Read Less

My Wheaten Terrier Stella was a well cared-for customer for 12 of her 14.3 years. Mostly she was seen by Dr. Mary Isaacs, who is humane, thoughtful and kind. She always puts the animal's well-being first, and she was a wonderful ally and information source as Stella became older and had more issues that I could not decide whether to address or not. (My goal with an older dog was to keep her from surgery or other medical trauma, if at all possible. Dr. Isaacs was extremely sympathetic to my position.) SMPC could always make time to see my girl at a moment's notice, if necessary, and was wonderful about refilling prescriptions and addressing basic needs like her dental health. I can't say enough good things about Santa Monica Pet Medical, and my next puppy will be a client as well.Read Less

We found Charlie at 4 months old with a shattered hip. The staff took such wonderful care and the Doctor who performed the surgery should be considered an artist. 1 year later Charlie can run and play like any other dog with NO LIMP! A serious miracle considering the x-ray we saw. Charlie LOVES visiting and is always so happy to be there (no joke). We love SM Pet Medical Center! Read Less
