Very caring. They have seen my Henry twice now for urgent health issues and got him right in. I was away over the summer and my neighbor was caring for Henry when he became super sick. They called me right when Henry arrived and called me right back after examining and treating him. I was sure the bill was going to be really expensive with all they did, but was a lil over 200.00. They will call and check hiw my dog is doing after I bring her in, and always take the time to answer all my questions. I had called because I knew my baby needed to see a doctor, so of course I went for the first time free sign, I'll tell you what, if I would have know these people where such wonderful folks, I would have come so much sooner. Not only did they listen to all my concerns, answer all my questions, they called with results, recommendations on what to do next. The staff is super with my baby aka 12 1/2 years old husky/akita, who is know blind. I would recommend them to anybody with fur babies. I will continue to get my many other animals treatments here. This place is terrible. I've been left empty handed on a number of visits to this vet clinic. My dog has been chewing his feet for years now and he is progressively getting worse and worse. Not only is he chewing his feet (which are completely raw), he's also having respiratory issues, eye problems, and ear problems. He's progressively worsening and this place hasn't done anything at all for my dog. All they do is take money from me. I've paid for a number of different products which have done nothing for my dog's health. Every time I come in all they have to say is that my dog has allergies and there's nothing they can do. We have a 16 y/o cocker and a Shepard rescue from Guatemala both of whom have a number of issues. The staff at Northtown have always been helpful, welcoming and understanding. I absolutely love Northtown Animal Hospital. All three Dr's are wonderful. I first went there to get a second opinion after my dog was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of cancer and the compassion that Dr Goetz showed for both me and my dog was palpable. She did what she could to make the remaining days for my dog and I as comfortable as possible. When the dreaded day came that I had to say goodbye to my pup, she was there for both of us. She even went so far as to make a donation in my dog's name after she crossed the rainbow bridge. I have been back many times since then with my two new pups, and Dr Goetz, Dr LaMar, and Dr Brown have all been consistently amazing. I love them so much! My first visit ever, I was on the floor with my kitty in the exam room because he was freaking out some. When the doctor came in, instead of chasing him around the room to put him on the table, she sat on the floor with us and let him go to her while she checked him out. I've taken many cats to this vet for over 30 years, since before they moved from Rincon Valley. I've always been treated well on the phone, during and after the visit. They make follow up calls afterwards to see if everything is okay. I've used them for euthanasia and they were compassionate and caring. Our beloved cat, Bailey, had a urinary blockage. Dr. Goetze was fantastic! Right from the start, she was so caring. You would have thought he was her cat. She was extremely knowledgable, compassionate, and reassuring. You could see in her eyes when she talked to us, that she understood exactly how we felt, and she explained everything in a way that we could understand. His treatment took an overnight stay, and several return visits, and everyone at Northtown was wonderful! I really am heartsick writing this. I just returned home with my dog after picking him up from Northtown for a suspected foxtail in his paw and an infected laceration under his ear flap, also a suspected foxtail. First off, I dropped my dog off at around 11 and was told to pick him up around 4....which ended up being moved to 4:30. When I arrived at 4:30 I was told that no foxtail was found in my dogs paw. I was told that a drawing dressing was applied to the paw and it was bandaged. Next, I was told that my dog had an ear infection in both ears, which was to be treated with antibiotics. I asked about the infection, and what was discovered to be the cause of the additional infection, just inside the right ear flap that appeared to be another foxtail.....Dr. LaMar just gave me a blank stare. She then suggested that she'd probably ought to take a look at it, which she did.....The idea that a trained vet could possibly had looked at both ears and determined them both to be infected and requiring expensive medication, yet NOT see the massive infection just sitting under the earflap is to me, unconscionable.......and on top of that, as we were leaving, my dogs paw was leaving blood trails around the office. I brought this to their attention and was met with no resistence to re-bandaging the paw. When the bandage was removed I saw that there was no drawing dressing at all - it had not been applied as I was told....and charged for....nor was there any applied with the new bandages. I was charged nearly $300 for this. I was flat-out lied to my face, charged for services not received, and am really really not at all happy and will NEVER bring my dog within a mile of the place. I've had a few visits with this vet this year as a new client. My kitty and I have moved back from the Sacramento area and we were looking for a new vet for him. I scheduled a routine physical exam for my kitty to make sure he was as healthy as can be for his 6 years of age. The exam revealed it was time for a dental cleaning as his teeth were again showing signs of gingivitis and inflammation. Frustrated, because I've already had 4 extractions on this poor cat not 8 months before, the vet took the time to talk about their dental plan for cats under 7 years old which would help save me money. After another visit just a week later and receiving my tax return, I scheduled the dental cleaning for my kitty. Because the staff had seen him, I didn't need to have an exam before scheduling the cleaning which was nice. It's always such a hassle to get my cat into his carrier, or as he sees it, the murder box of doom. I received an estimate at dropoff from about $400-750 for the high-low end ($750 if needing extractions). On Tuesday-Thursday they offer 15% off the IV catheter/fluids and pre-anesthetic blood work - do it. It's for the safety of your pet! Damage came to $490 without extractions and my boy's teeth were again clean and healthy. I was sent home with antibiotics for his gingivitis and the recovery evening and next morning were smooth and he got all of the love. Why 3 stars? It left a real bad taste in my mouth that I haven't received a check-up call from the office. Oh my cat is fine, but I think this is an important part of showing that the office cares as many anesthetic complications arise from the recovery, not the surgery itself. A little put off after spending nearly $500 in their office too and not receiving this. Thanks for keeping your prices reasonable, but you guys understand I don't just blow that kind of cash anywhere, right? What's so hard about a 5 minute call? Hmph. Read Less

"rump check", ask about the punch card for nail trim discounts. I really like the annual exam and vaccine records linked to So. Co. Animal Control, his lic. vaccination record is updated automatically, and I am simply billed by Animal Control, it makes it much easier than having to track down an additional piece of paper to prove vaccination records at time of lic. renewal. The staff at Northtown has been spectacular. I never met anyone who was less than 110% and did everything they could to take care of my pets. When it came time to put down my cat, their compassion for the whole procedure was really helpful to get through the pain. They have a wide selection of pet medications and at reasonable prices. I am glad we live so close to Northtown Animal Hospital in northeastern Santa Rosa. The welcoming staff and competent doctors have provided prompt and excellent care for our cats and dog over the years. Appointments can generally be made for the same day, and in an emergency they will go out of their way to make room in the daily schedule to see your pet. *Our dog "Ripper" had diarrhea for a few days, vomited a huge amount of food and bile, next day weak,could hardly stand up ... he is almost 5 yrs old. **We called 2 other vets,one that has seen Ripper in the past and they had no room to squeeze him in same day. ~When we called Dr. Racelle LaMarshe asked questions on the phone and said she would see him in 2 hours. In the visit they gave him fluid,did blood work and her suspicion, was accurate. Ripper tested positive for the Lyme antibody,she started him on all the medication and he was 90% better next day........IMPORTANT :The 2nd test took a few days to get results back. It came back Positive for having "The Lyme disease" different then the initial positive test for the Lyme antibody,that dogs produce fighting off "Lyme disease" .... most of the time successfully! *The Lyme antibody can stay for months or years after sucsessfuly fighting off Lyme disease and you will get a positive.  WE are grateful Dr. LaMar made time for our Ripper and took the time to ask the right questions. I am relatively new to the area and had been looking for a veterinarian with that special touch to care for my 16 year old poodle and 6 year old cat.  I was happy to  have discovered Northtown Animal Hospital. My dog had recently been to the groomers & the pad of his paw had been cut and was causing him pain. I called to make an appt. for him to be seen and they were able to get him in that very day. Dr. Brown greeted us both warmly and I knew instantly that this was the place to be. We discussed the particulars concerning my dog and he put me at ease with his calm and easy going approach to his care. He also noticed a lump on his back leg and suggested doing a needle biopsy to rule out anything serious. After performing the biopsy, he was able to give me a positive report thus eliminating any future concerns. I like the fact that you are present in the room while they are examining your pet instead of whisking them away. I left there that day with a great sense of satisfaction and I will continue to take my pets there for all their needs. Dr. Brown is the Greatest Vet doctor ever!.  Unfortunately He is retiring and selling the business to another doctor.  We Just had a MISERABLE experience with the new Dr. Lamar. Our dog had to have surgery. We were given a quote of charges, when we picked our dog up the cost was over $500.00 more.  Lamar justified the new charges and refused to even come close to her quote. We called several other Vet hospitals and all gave a price close Dr. Lamar's original quote.  Watch out for your wallet, Dr. Lamar will try extract ALL your money. Read Less

I was in SR on vacation and my dog had injured herself. I called and they got me in within two hours. When I arrived the staff was very friendly! The doctor Dr. LaMar, was great with my dog, telling her the whole time she was "being a rockstar" after the exam she gave my dog lots of love and kisses and my little dog stopped shaking for the duration of the visit. I have taken all my various cats to Northtown Animal Hospital for the past 10 years. I usually see either Dr. Brown or Dr. MacKenzie and I can't say enough good things about them. They are genuinely interested in my cats' health. I've seen each of them from the first checkup after a cat adoption, through routine and problem visits, and sadly over the past few months I've had to see them to put two of our elder cats to sleep. On each of those painful occasions we were able to stay with our cats to pet, soothe and say goodbye to them as the injection was administered. The special gift from Drs. Brown and MacKenzie is that they make you feel like your pet is the most fabulous animal that has ever come through their practice.
