My little poodle got pretty sick over the weeken, spca poison control, $70 joke and no answers, local vet was helpful but closed. I only gave a 4 star because it is so far away to help my dog. The Vet and vet nurses were kind and gentle with my dog and they didnt charge me rediculous prices to see my pup and put my mind at ease. I would take Jax there again because pets dont only get sick 9-5 m-f. Any they are open 24/7. Wish we had them up here. Thank you! Read Less

Last Wednesday I brought my dog Deuce to this hospital. I was told without immediate medical intervention he would not last another day. Once the amazing doctors preformed a quick assessment they were able to determine he had a very large mass on his spleen that 70% of the time is a very aggressive cancer. We decided to proceed with surgery anyways. I was able to call 24 hours a day to check on how my dog was doing. The staff never made me feel like was being a pest and were always pleasant and respectful to me. They took amazing care of my dog... I doubt anyone would have done anymore for him. The great news is the biopsy results determined it was a benign mass. Thank you again guys Read Less

I rushed our dog to PetCare from the Mendocino coast after a local vet refused to treat her (that will be much more than a Yelp, trust me on that!) She had been in the car for 2 hours and had been ill since midnight getting progressively worse.  The reception area was very busy, there were dogs everywhere. The lobby was spacious and there were plenty of spaces for owners and their pets to sit undisturbed.  I was greeted immediately and they asked me what was going on with my dog.  I gave them the abridged version and a tech was sent out very quickly to do a brief assessment of her well-being.  Shortly thereafter we were taken to a room for an exam, interview and meeting with Dr. Owen (fabulous!)  Our dog has been at the vet three times in a month so her anxiety was severe.  This was an unrelated event to her prior two visits: she got into either chocolate or a macadamia nut while camping.  It resembled parvo so I asked them to rule that out even though she was fully and regularly vaccinated (parvo is rampant according to the camp host and we had other dogs in our group).  After her exam and reviewing her symptoms and blood work, Dr, Owen gave me a plan of treatment for her.  I was very pleased with the level of care and compassion for my nervous and unhappy sick dog.  The service was prompt and affordable. 5 stars for doctor Dan Famini!I recently just had my first Pet Care experience.  Thankfully it was not an emergency. Marcell Romero Spicy Dragon Puff was recently added to the household. He's a 3 no old baby Bearded Dragon who came to see Dan Famini because he is the exotic expert in Sonoma County.  Dr. F took so much needed time with me. Answered all of my questions. Shared his knowledge and I never felt rushed. I have seen him before at other hospitals and he is worth following. Just a plethora of knowledge. Upon entering Petcare East, I was rather impressed with their new beautiful large building. If traveling north on Mendocino, you have have to make an inconvenient left onto Administration Dr, as you can not make a U-Turn at the light. Traveling south, you can make a right directly into their driveway. But heading north it's inconvenient if you have an emergency.  The lobby is absolutely beautiful.  Lots of space with plenty of nooks and crannies in case you have a shy or reactive pet. The reception desk was a little scattered. I know they need lots of staff to accommodate the large hospital.  But it was almost like, "too many cooks in the kitchen status".There was confusion with my appt.  Called to confirm my appt. And then called a couple of hours before saying "They had me down for multiple. Are you coming?"All in all, Great beautiful hospital. Read Less

These people will take care of your animal. They will also try to scam you out of house and home while doing it, then terrorize you into taking the most expensive option. While I think the business is slimy and the whole thing was way overpriced, if your animal needs emergency care that absolutely cannot wait, they will care for your pet. Always ask what every medication and treatment will do for your pet! A lot of the time slimy places will give you something for the symptoms that isn't needed and won't help your pet get better, just make them seem better. Read Less

This place tried to rip me off saying my dog needed a surgery he clearly did not need. It was only after I mentioned going to another doctor that she said she can try giving him fluids, but at first she was insistent that he would most likely require surgery. I took him for a second opinion to the other vet as I no longer trusted Petcare. The second vet told me that there was a 75% chance he would NOT need surgery and she will give him fluids and get him moving to trey to pass it. Later that day I picked Tucker up, no surgery needed he has been back to normal since. As a follow up I just got off the phone with Michelle in client services who claims this was a misunderstanding. It was in no way a misunderstanding the doctor did not offer fluids until I mentioned leaving for another vet. The most compassionate, friendly, qualified staff I have ever been around! We had to take our little Yorkie, and love of our life in on Friday emergently. Im so impressed with the staff, and would highly recommend them to anyone. Our dog spent the night in ICU, and we were able to bring her home last night. Without them, she wouldn't be here today. Very impressive - compassionate, knowledgeable, affordable! My dog stopped eating, bloodshot eyes, trembling, barely could walk. Looked like he was dying. They rushed him back, and saved his life for only $120! It's only been two days and he finally started eating this morning! Yesterday i could see the whites of his eyes, and he barely ate a slice of bacon. I am always afraid of vet horror stories, like I will end up owing thousands of dollars, but I really love our hound and didn't want him to die. I am amazed at how knowledgeable they were in examing him to pinpoint the problem without added expenses. I feel really comfortable about recommending them to anyone in the future, and while I hope I never need to go back there, I will never hesitate if a future problem arises. My 15 year old dog had an intestinal blockage. First vet that treated him at PetCare agreed with me that having the surgery may not be a good idea due to his age. It might be time to let him go. They decided to monitor his condition. The next day another vet treating him at PetCare encouraged me to have the surgery. I loved this dog with all my heart and it wasn't hard to give me hope and get me to agree to the surgery. Another vet at PetCare performed the surgery. The surgeon called me after the surgery and said it went well but it was very difficult and complicated and he wasn't out of the woods yet. This was the last time an actual veterinarian spoke to me. About 4 hours after the surgery a technician called me and told me my dog was having complications and was in a lot of pain and they wanted to pursue a number of treatments all of which I authorized. I told this technician that I needed someone to call me if they thought he wasn't going to make it so I could be there for the euthanasia (I live an hour away). He said he would call me if there was a change in his condition. In retrospect I think they knew at this time that he likely wasn't going to make it but simply didn't tell me that. About 9 hours later (at 7 am) the same technician called me and said that my dog wasn't going to make it. I told him I would be there in an hour to put him down. He said he wasn't going to make it that long and I should let them do it. I did that and went to see him one last time (after he had been euthanized). The surgeon has never called me to discuss what happened, what complications killed my dog or simply to express his condolences. I don't think anyone at PetCare is responsible for my dog's death. I think the second vet who encouraged me to go forward with the surgery may have done it for financial reasons (total bill was 7K). The worst part of it is that I wasn't able to be with my friend of 15 years when he died because some technician didn't call me in time as I requested when it became apparent that he was not going to survive. Excellent care for my animals over years. Recently: Knees repaired on silky. Old stray Pomeranian with long-standing break of front leg had it repaired with no sign a limp. Same old Pom had a broken jaw and 3 rotten teeth - teeth pulled, mouth repaired so well she prefers small kibble to soft food. Any very ill or injured animal can do no better than be brought to PetCare. BUT... Very Pricey. very, very. But for a member of the family. Not a place to take an animal for routine care. Read Less

I can not recommend this vet enough. We drive 2 hours to see this vet . Many of our visits have been emergency visits. They are the most reasonably priced emergency vet we have found . As for the treatment they really did a amazing job doing what it was that was needed with out spending funds we didnt have . This place was awful. My Uncles dog was hit by a car and these people treated us like dirt! They were supposed to do the procedure (removing his eye) the night it happened. They said all they needed was a deposit is $191 and a guarantee to pay the rest after. They had a family members phone number to get all the money (at the time $1000) they did not do the procedure that night and then charged another $400! To me that is just WRONG because it is on them if they didn't do it. Also Freddy (the dog) had to have his jaw wired almost shut and they gave my uncle PILLS to give this poor dog! i know for a fact that they have liquid form in all the medications that they gave him! My cat has a broken leg and these people wont even get someone to talk to me about surgery and jsut act like they dont know what to do I even have the money to pay and the X rays from another vet. I have already been taking my golden retriever there for breeding purposes. Looks like I am going to have to find another place. These people only care about their houses and car payments. They don't really care about animals. American vets and Dr.s make me sick. American people are to stupid to know better. You can also tell they only care about teir porches and houses because the place looks like a spa. Not a vet office and the girls who work their act like ther are from Orange County. Prior to being referred to Pet Care West, we had read the Yelp reviews - which many were not favorable - however, being referred we felt we should go. Our dog had a small 1/2 inch growth. One of our primary Vets charged $50.00 to see our dog and referred us to Pet Care West Hospital so that our dog could "have the best shot at treatment". FIRST RED FLAG: came when I initially called to sch. the Vet appt at Pet Care West. After describing what our dog had and saying he was "referred by our Vet" - the scheduler for that Surgeon actually said "and you might want to not give your dog any food or water the night before in case u decide to have his surgery that same day as your initial consultation". I said "why would we do that? BEFORE any lab work comes in from the Lab and any blood work comes in to tell us exactly what he has..that makes no sense" Yes - that's right - this scheduler was ready to book our dog in for surgery for THAT SAME EXACT DAY as being initially seen by the Surgeon. Rush to charge $$ - of course. Consultation with the Soft Tissue Surgeon who said he must have a number of tests first: Super Chem $130.00, Cytology (needle aspiration) $125.50 = not to mention his own "Consultation" fee - the entire bill for the initial consultation came to almost $400.00. When the Surgeon called with the lab results on Tuesday of this week, we asked "what other possible alternatives would there be to surgery"? We were told "that is actually good thinking to think along those alternative lines - I will have our Radiologist Doctor call you today just to discuss radiation therapy etc". By 5:30 pm, no call had come in from his Associate. 2nd RED FLAG: I called Pet Care West to ask when we could expect a call and was told "Have you had a "consultation" with the radiologic Doctor"? I said none needed - he was literally just seen 72 hours ago and your Surgeon said that Doctor would simply give us a call to discuss that option. I was then told that "even for a phone consult, it would be $125.00" - For a simple phone call that would probably last 10 minutes - tops! The front desk scheduler did say "We hear that alot" - when I protested and said "that's outrageous". I have never written a "Yelp" review before - but - this situation begged for a review. Let me be perfectly clear here: My husband and I would NEVER take our dogs to Pet Care East, West, North or South. They should also consider changing their Company name to "Pet Care we$t". We and anyone reading this should never consider bringing their pet, emergency or no, to this money/big profit first driven Organization. We - of course - don't want our pet being operated on with only one objective - not to cure with care in mind first and foremost - but to drive the price up - much like a meter running on a taxicab, which is a very close scenario of exactly what they do. He will have his operation - by a Vet who cares about our pet - not the dollar signs. After the trauma of blindly backing up over my partners new 10 week old German Shepard puppy Fin. We took him to Pet Care Veterinary Hospital on Mendocino Ave, Santa Rosa . The staff immediately when into a high state of emergency and within 2 min he was seen by a doctor and rushed for treatment. I was grateful, until the proposed bill arrived which totaled over $4,000. After some heart to heart talks with the Pet Care sales person, they were kind enough to offer alternative options and I chose the services Dr. Peter Hendricks, a retired Vet who never really retired! Oh My God This man is impeccable at his craft, I am writing this after Fin has fully recovered running around for weeks without even a the slightest limp in his stride. Dr Hendricks bedside manner is unparalleled, going so far as to stay up all night with our little pup! The disclosure from all parties all was honest, to the point and much appreciated. Dr Hendricks was able to provide the Cadillac operation for a fraction of the cost. Life is already tough enough and adding the trauma of nearly killing a puppy is shattering, not to mention the surprise cost before the holidays. So I must say all of the people at Pet Care Veterinary Hospital where not shallow by any means but rather very concerned and professional and they also proved that they have a heart by recommending Dr Hendricks and Triple A+++ for Pet Care Veterinary Hospital.
