The quality of care here is exceptionally good. They have good staffing levels, and all of the veterinarians are extremely kind, well educated and effective. Don't be fooled by the facility looking old and in need of update. This is a 24-hour vet hospital and it's pretty obvious they don't have time to screw around with office design upgrades. I take my three cats and my dog there, and I love it.

Not for me Dr. Richard Hoskins overlooked my beautiful dogs lameness in rear legs for months before her hip and leg swelled to a basketball it was BONE CANCER and we lost valuable time in diagnoses then when he finally X-rays says sorry tough one it's bone cancer no treatment offered nothing but more pain killers this guy sucks. He is super quick on the visit I've seen him do this before so i have no idea why i went there. Bottom line is my dog is GONE now she broke her leg before we could have another opinion by that time she had suffered enough.

This place is a joke. Not only does it have a strong horrible smell of chemicals when you walk in, but it's just dirty. Went there twice and both times were bad experiences mostly with the staff being completely rude. Told the vet that I only had enough money for the visit so I couldn't take any medications for my puppy or anything st that time, he advised me not to worry and I won't get charged anymore than for the visit. That was nice of him, considering that he gave my puppy 300$ worth of fluids and imaging. He was in a complete rush and didn't ask any questions, he just said he wanted to get X-rays and take my puppy to do blood test, without any questions! I quickly stopped him and he was so rude! When I got to the front desk to check out and pay, she told me my amount which was outrageous! When I explained that the doctor wouldn't charge me for anything but the visit, she got snooty and rude with me. And made me feel completely stupid as if I didn't know the prices. I will admit I was rude back, but in the end I did apologize which made her become even more stuck up and rude. She told her coworker that she has to "pink slip me" and when I asked her what that meant she said it means that they put a note in the chart basically stating that we refused to pay... i still paid! I just refused to pay the full amount considering that the doctor told me himself I wasn't getting charged. This place has a lack of cleanliness, communication and good manners. DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE

We usually go to Central Animal Hospital in Petaluma with such friendly staff. We came to Redwood at the recommendation of our breeder to see Dr. Hoskins for the care of our Bernese Mountain Dog. Our experience with Dr. Hoskins has been excellent. He has great bedside manner and is very knowledgable. If it were just him this would be a 5- star review.However, the interactions with the front office staff have been less than optimal. If you go, be prepared to wait. If the front staff treated their patients like they did one another this would be a 5-star review. Specifics below, only read on if interested.On our recent trip, Dropping off for surgery, we were provided paperwork, however, no one actually went over any of the paperwork and we ended up paying an extra $50 for blood work by "accepting" what I thought was just a clause about the inherent risks of surgery. The specific fee was not listed in the paperwork. Then, upon leaving I had to ask a question but had to wait for the ladies to finish up a personal conversation (Rather unprofessional in any setting). Picking up, I called ahead to get charges and paperwork started since I'm from out of town. I waited for about 30 minutes still when I arrived to pick up. The lady who checked me out spoke to the tech as if I wasn't even there (even the tech chastised her), and was not overly willing to answer my questions. With a $600 bill, yes, I wanted itemizations, not too much to ask. We will keep going here for Dr. Hoskins care and lower our expectations for the front office staff. If this was a one time thing, sure, but the first time we went the staff was not overly friendly either...you feel like more of a nuisance than a client.

Yesterday (August 21st 2016) our little cat Sasha had to be euthanized. She'd been sick for a while, and as my usual vet was not available at weekends I needed someone to look at her urgently when she took a turn for the worse, and so went to Redwood Veterinary Clinic. The staff there were super helpful and friendly, and the on-duty vet was very attentive and sympathetic. He did some tests, and confirmed our worst suspicions, even coming out to the parking lot to our car to break the news and our various options at length to us with great patience. We decided to euthanize our kitty, and I attended, holding her while Dr. Hoskins gave the injection. It was dreadfully upsetting, but carried out with great compassion and sensitivity. I cannot recommend these folks highly enough.

I don't know all that staff at Redwood but Dr. Richard Hoskins is as good as it gets. He is qualified to do nearly any type of procedure and really is that been-there-done that type of vet that marries years of experience with good down-to-earth sensibility. He is the one my own vet goes to when she needs help. Over the years, he restored my border collie's hip when it was dislocated, saved my cat when she had a rare infection, and the latest of my disasters is an amputation for an injured kitten only 7 weeks old. I couldn't' have asked for better care at reasonable prices than here.

The 5 stars is both for the quality of care from Dr. Hoskins and the very nice demeanor that everyone on staff displayed. I could not be happier with our experience at this vet.My dog Cash and I were referred to Dr. Hoskins as he is one of few vets in the country who knows how to diagnose and treat a rare, congenital issue that my (almost) 10 year old dog had. My local vets in SF misdiagnosed and ran tests that actually aggravated the condition. Everyone said it could not be addressed, at almost 10 he was too old to operate etc and the prognosis was grim. So, by the time I arrived at Redwood Vet I was a bit discouraged and emotional.Dr. Hoskins confirmed it was the congenital issue, clearly explained the options and confidently suggested we try surgery since it was the best option for my dog to have a good quality of life. The staff worked us in the next day. (Also - When I started to cry in the office, he was pretty great about that - not always my experience when I tear up at the vet...) Everything worked out great, and my dog has fully recovered.FYI For those upset about wait times - emergency vets often have this issue because they have to accommodate all the surprise emergencies. I've seen this at every emergency vet I've worked with in SF, NYC and Brooklyn. Yes it can be frustrating for you, but almost all of the time the staff is doing their best to handle things. Be patient.

After spending $1200.00 and complaining that they not only lied to me they cut my dog in three places while trying to prep her for a test, for which they forgot to schedule they told me "I was not a good fit for their practice" but my wallet sure was! Redwood takes advantage of loving and caring pet owners. They are not the least bit interested in resolving problems, or taking responsibility for critical errors on their part. As others have mentioned in Yelp STAY AWAY---BEWARE My dog suffered from the poor care received there.

I had to put my dog down recently because his health was failing quickly. Everything about this process went wrong. From the first person of contact at the front desk was rude. Then the vet that put the stint in to administer the drugs got yanked out by my dog & it went all bad from there....the process literally took 20 mins. for my dog to be put down. Without going into too much detail, after everything was all said & done, when the girls were asked to pick up my dog off the floor before I leave, the rude lady I first encountered rolled her eyes at the request then showed up & the door telling me I had to leave first.....EXCUSE ME??? No, you need to pick him up BEFORE I leave, then again with her rude attitude said she would have to go get help....WTF???? She knew I wanted him picked up so why didn't she BRING help? Thats when I started to lose it.....what was she going to do if I did leave? Was she going to drag him down the hallway?Nothing about this visit was going well & since they messed up everything (ended up getting a full refund) because something didn't feel right so I ended up going & picking up his body to take to his normal vet so I knew things would get taken care of properly, not to mention I was greeted with warmth & sympathy by the girls at his normal vet. Hopefully procedures (& some personnel) change in this place before any other pet owners have to deal with what I experienced.

So disappointed with the service that I received from Redwood Emergency Hospital. My dog had an emergency recently, and we quickly took him to Redwood. We have used this hospital for years, for all of our emergencies, for all our pets. Although it is small and very run down, the staff and doctors have always been helpful. Not this time! We miss Dr. Capuro, wish she was still there.We waited for a very long time to be seen, that happens, I understand, but give us an update! When we got into the room, there were 3 of us with my dog. A very large-framed doctor walked into the room and (did not greet us) said "Move out of the way." Ok, that was rude, I am already in a bad emotional place when arriving, and that did not help. It just went downhill from there. Even when we went in to pick up my dog 3 days later (we were told to pick him up at 9 PM) the ladies at the front counter were having computer issues, and could not print the labels correctly. They kept referring to my dog as "she", even though I said "he" several times. They could not find my records, and could not locate the proof that I had put a $300 deposit down the first day. They could also not count the pills correctly (they were trying to figure out how many pills we needed if he took ¼ tablet 2 times a day... they got it wrong, I had to correct them) and was bent out of shape when I asked to speak to the doctor (I wanted to see how my dog was doing, what pills he needed to take, etc.) I did not get out of there until 10:15 PM. Luckily, my dog is ok, I will be following up with my regular vet. I did not get a good vibe from this place like I had in the past. Too bad, it is the closest pet emergency hospital to my house, but I will be looking for a new hospital.

Saved my Dog's life. My female dog, Nina recently whelped a litter of pups. This was an extremely planned breeding as Nina is a champion and my agility dog. I am an OCD dog owner and will go to the ends of the earth for my dogs. Nina got mastitis. It was bad, she could barely walk, I took her to the vet immediately and Dr Lee looked her over and put her on very strong antibiotics immediately. I really LOVED the staff there. Everyone was so nice and helpful and generally cared about my baby girl. Its also really convenient that they are open 24 hours. I work ODD hours, so it was nice to be able to pick her up from her procedure at 9pm at night and not have to miss work to go get her earlier. The price is great too. Very affordable! Thank goodness! I read some of the previous reviews and can't believe what I'm reading. I was there on multiple occasions, day and night and all the vets and staff were awesome and knowledgeable. They were also very available over the phone when I had questions.

Have been taking various pets here for two decades, before Costco and the giant shopping center was built in the same general location. It use to be reasonably priced, with a small caring staff, this is no longer the case, the office staff seem harried, and stressed, when you call for an appointment, you are immediately put on hold with some weird kind of static (radio station)? Playing in the background, the atmosphere that use to be relaxed and friendly, no longer exists. Their are a few good vets left, but the best ones don't last long, or are long gone. I grew up in Marin, moved to Sonoma Co. To escape the exorbitant prices, well, I might as well be living in Marin again with the prices they charge now. Be prepared to pay BIG bucks for their services..:-(

This is a great clinic for my pets. It got so I was unable to spend the high prices of some of the designer pet clinics in Marin County. My Golden Retriever, who is the light of my life, needed a mass removed from her chest. I had taken her to our regular clinic in Marin, which I love, but they were going to cost $1200. I also took her to SF SPCA hospital to see if they could do the procedure. They gave me an estimate of $1800 to remove a lipoma... The lipoma was located in an area that affected her running so it really had to be removed. The Marin Humane Society recommended Dr. Hoskins at the Redwood Veterinary Clinic. I was very happy with their professionalism and their excellent care they gave my girl, and the best of all is that they only charged $500, including keeping her overnight to make sure she was okay.

The quality of care here is exceptionally good. They have good staffing levels, and all of the veterinarians are extremely kind, well educated and effective. Don't be fooled by the facility looking old and in need of update. This is a 24-hour vet hospital and it's pretty obvious they don't have time to screw around with office design upgrades. I take my three cats and my dog there, and I love it.

For me, there is no better veterinarian in the San Francisco Bay Area and he has saved the lives of my dogs countless number of times.

Our go to for routine and emergency vet work for our dog. After some not so great visits to other vets in town, it was nice to find a place that did a great job for a reasonable price.

Not for me Dr. Richard Hoskins overlooked my beautiful dogs lameness in rear legs for months before her hip and leg swelled to a basketball it was BONE CANCER and we lost valuable time in diagnoses then when he finally X-rays says sorry tough one it's bone cancer no treatment offered nothing but more pain killers this guy sucks. He is super quick on the visit I've seen him do this before so i have no idea why i went there. Bottom line is my dog is GONE now she broke her leg before we could have another opinion by that time she had suffered enough.

This place is a joke. Not only does it have a strong horrible smell of chemicals when you walk in, but it's just dirty. Went there twice and both times were bad experiences mostly with the staff being completely rude. Told the vet that I only had enough money for the visit so I couldn't take any medications for my puppy or anything st that time, he advised me not to worry and I won't get charged anymore than for the visit. That was nice of him, considering that he gave my puppy 300$ worth of fluids and imaging. He was in a complete rush and didn't ask any questions, he just said he wanted to get X-rays and take my puppy to do blood test, without any questions! I quickly stopped him and he was so rude! When I got to the front desk to check out and pay, she told me my amount which was outrageous! When I explained that the doctor wouldn't charge me for anything but the visit, she got snooty and rude with me. And made me feel completely stupid as if I didn't know the prices. I will admit I was rude back, but in the end I did apologize which made her become even more stuck up and rude. She told her coworker that she has to "pink slip me" and when I asked her what that meant she said it means that they put a note in the chart basically stating that we refused to pay... i still paid! I just refused to pay the full amount considering that the doctor told me himself I wasn't getting charged. This place has a lack of cleanliness, communication and good manners. DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE

We usually go to Central Animal Hospital in Petaluma with such friendly staff. We came to Redwood at the recommendation of our breeder to see Dr. Hoskins for the care of our Bernese Mountain Dog. Our experience with Dr. Hoskins has been excellent. He has great bedside manner and is very knowledgable. If it were just him this would be a 5- star review.However, the interactions with the front office staff have been less than optimal. If you go, be prepared to wait. If the front staff treated their patients like they did one another this would be a 5-star review. Specifics below, only read on if interested.On our recent trip, Dropping off for surgery, we were provided paperwork, however, no one actually went over any of the paperwork and we ended up paying an extra $50 for blood work by "accepting" what I thought was just a clause about the inherent risks of surgery. The specific fee was not listed in the paperwork. Then, upon leaving I had to ask a question but had to wait for the ladies to finish up a personal conversation (Rather unprofessional in any setting). Picking up, I called ahead to get charges and paperwork started since I'm from out of town. I waited for about 30 minutes still when I arrived to pick up. The lady who checked me out spoke to the tech as if I wasn't even there (even the tech chastised her), and was not overly willing to answer my questions. With a $600 bill, yes, I wanted itemizations, not too much to ask. We will keep going here for Dr. Hoskins care and lower our expectations for the front office staff. If this was a one time thing, sure, but the first time we went the staff was not overly friendly either...you feel like more of a nuisance than a client.

Yesterday (August 21st 2016) our little cat Sasha had to be euthanized. She'd been sick for a while, and as my usual vet was not available at weekends I needed someone to look at her urgently when she took a turn for the worse, and so went to Redwood Veterinary Clinic. The staff there were super helpful and friendly, and the on-duty vet was very attentive and sympathetic. He did some tests, and confirmed our worst suspicions, even coming out to the parking lot to our car to break the news and our various options at length to us with great patience. We decided to euthanize our kitty, and I attended, holding her while Dr. Hoskins gave the injection. It was dreadfully upsetting, but carried out with great compassion and sensitivity. I cannot recommend these folks highly enough.

Wonderful compassionate staff, very little wait time. They went above and beyond with their care of my pekingese. The doctor was very easy to understand and work with- even her handwriting is readable which is nearly nonexistent amongst most doctors haha! Very fair emergency rates! Great overall experience, I will definitely be coming here for any more emergencies, which I hope- knock on wood- will be few and far between! Thank you for everything!!!

I don't know all that staff at Redwood but Dr. Richard Hoskins is as good as it gets. He is qualified to do nearly any type of procedure and really is that been-there-done that type of vet that marries years of experience with good down-to-earth sensibility. He is the one my own vet goes to when she needs help. Over the years, he restored my border collie's hip when it was dislocated, saved my cat when she had a rare infection, and the latest of my disasters is an amputation for an injured kitten only 7 weeks old. I couldn't' have asked for better care at reasonable prices than here.

The 5 stars is both for the quality of care from Dr. Hoskins and the very nice demeanor that everyone on staff displayed. I could not be happier with our experience at this vet.My dog Cash and I were referred to Dr. Hoskins as he is one of few vets in the country who knows how to diagnose and treat a rare, congenital issue that my (almost) 10 year old dog had. My local vets in SF misdiagnosed and ran tests that actually aggravated the condition. Everyone said it could not be addressed, at almost 10 he was too old to operate etc and the prognosis was grim. So, by the time I arrived at Redwood Vet I was a bit discouraged and emotional.Dr. Hoskins confirmed it was the congenital issue, clearly explained the options and confidently suggested we try surgery since it was the best option for my dog to have a good quality of life. The staff worked us in the next day. (Also - When I started to cry in the office, he was pretty great about that - not always my experience when I tear up at the vet...) Everything worked out great, and my dog has fully recovered.FYI For those upset about wait times - emergency vets often have this issue because they have to accommodate all the surprise emergencies. I've seen this at every emergency vet I've worked with in SF, NYC and Brooklyn. Yes it can be frustrating for you, but almost all of the time the staff is doing their best to handle things. Be patient.

After spending $1200.00 and complaining that they not only lied to me they cut my dog in three places while trying to prep her for a test, for which they forgot to schedule they told me "I was not a good fit for their practice" but my wallet sure was! Redwood takes advantage of loving and caring pet owners. They are not the least bit interested in resolving problems, or taking responsibility for critical errors on their part. As others have mentioned in Yelp STAY AWAY---BEWARE My dog suffered from the poor care received there.

Appointments are easy to get and if you have to wait...WAIT! or your next scathing review!Time to grow up. Stop the complaining and go somewhere else! If you have problems here, you have problems EVERYWHERE! Don't let these negative reviews steer you away.

Rather annoying that I have to wait for others to do possibly paperwork, and then be taken in to another room. Especially when there are several people behind the counter just sitting there. If and when I go there again I will buy several packages so I don't have to go in there any time soon!!! Poor service sucks!

I had to put my dog down recently because his health was failing quickly. Everything about this process went wrong. From the first person of contact at the front desk was rude. Then the vet that put the stint in to administer the drugs got yanked out by my dog & it went all bad from there....the process literally took 20 mins. for my dog to be put down. Without going into too much detail, after everything was all said & done, when the girls were asked to pick up my dog off the floor before I leave, the rude lady I first encountered rolled her eyes at the request then showed up & the door telling me I had to leave first.....EXCUSE ME??? No, you need to pick him up BEFORE I leave, then again with her rude attitude said she would have to go get help....WTF???? She knew I wanted him picked up so why didn't she BRING help? Thats when I started to lose it.....what was she going to do if I did leave? Was she going to drag him down the hallway?Nothing about this visit was going well & since they messed up everything (ended up getting a full refund) because something didn't feel right so I ended up going & picking up his body to take to his normal vet so I knew things would get taken care of properly, not to mention I was greeted with warmth & sympathy by the girls at his normal vet. Hopefully procedures (& some personnel) change in this place before any other pet owners have to deal with what I experienced.

So disappointed with the service that I received from Redwood Emergency Hospital. My dog had an emergency recently, and we quickly took him to Redwood. We have used this hospital for years, for all of our emergencies, for all our pets. Although it is small and very run down, the staff and doctors have always been helpful. Not this time! We miss Dr. Capuro, wish she was still there.We waited for a very long time to be seen, that happens, I understand, but give us an update! When we got into the room, there were 3 of us with my dog. A very large-framed doctor walked into the room and (did not greet us) said "Move out of the way." Ok, that was rude, I am already in a bad emotional place when arriving, and that did not help. It just went downhill from there. Even when we went in to pick up my dog 3 days later (we were told to pick him up at 9 PM) the ladies at the front counter were having computer issues, and could not print the labels correctly. They kept referring to my dog as "she", even though I said "he" several times. They could not find my records, and could not locate the proof that I had put a $300 deposit down the first day. They could also not count the pills correctly (they were trying to figure out how many pills we needed if he took ¼ tablet 2 times a day... they got it wrong, I had to correct them) and was bent out of shape when I asked to speak to the doctor (I wanted to see how my dog was doing, what pills he needed to take, etc.) I did not get out of there until 10:15 PM. Luckily, my dog is ok, I will be following up with my regular vet. I did not get a good vibe from this place like I had in the past. Too bad, it is the closest pet emergency hospital to my house, but I will be looking for a new hospital.

Stay away! We brought our cat in very sick unfortunately we got taken advantage of because he was so sick. We were at their mercy and had to pay them 1700.00 to make himwell. We went to pick him up and they wanted more money to keep him longer .they knew there was not much else to do the just want more and more they take advantage of your heart. our cat was seen by a more reputable vet and is doing just fine now. They never even called us to see how he was doing.

This week my dog, Jewel was not looking well. She look like she had lost 6 pounds in this last week. My vet was closed for Christmas Eve., so I took her to RVC. They were very nice and cared about our situation. Dr. Hoskin was so professional and upfront honest. Jewel had large tumors in her lungs and stomach. She was in pain, so we decided to put her to rest. I will go back to see them.

Saved my Dog's life. My female dog, Nina recently whelped a litter of pups. This was an extremely planned breeding as Nina is a champion and my agility dog. I am an OCD dog owner and will go to the ends of the earth for my dogs. Nina got mastitis. It was bad, she could barely walk, I took her to the vet immediately and Dr Lee looked her over and put her on very strong antibiotics immediately. I really LOVED the staff there. Everyone was so nice and helpful and generally cared about my baby girl. Its also really convenient that they are open 24 hours. I work ODD hours, so it was nice to be able to pick her up from her procedure at 9pm at night and not have to miss work to go get her earlier. The price is great too. Very affordable! Thank goodness! I read some of the previous reviews and can't believe what I'm reading. I was there on multiple occasions, day and night and all the vets and staff were awesome and knowledgeable. They were also very available over the phone when I had questions.

I used their emergency services because my cat attacked my dog. They were very fast, very efficient, reasonably priced, and I will return anytime I need emergency services.

By far the best veterinary hospital I have ever worked for. Most the staff has worked there for decades. I have personally had my animals cared for by Dr. Hoskins and staff, and there is no comparison. I highly recommend redwood hospital to anybody. I miss you all very much. Thank you Redwood Vet for being there on Saturday night when we had to make the difficult decision to say goodbye to our Daisy, age 15. And for being there 3 other times (over 25 years) as well: Wendy-age 8, Tracer-age 14, and Kibbee-age 21. It can be a very sad place on the weekends, but the staff there is experienced and kind. Have been taking various pets here for two decades, before Costco and the giant shopping center was built in the same general location. It use to be reasonably priced, with a small caring staff, this is no longer the case, the office staff seem harried, and stressed, when you call for an appointment, you are immediately put on hold with some weird kind of static (radio station)? Playing in the background, the atmosphere that use to be relaxed and friendly, no longer exists. Their are a few good vets left, but the best ones don't last long, or are long gone. I grew up in Marin, moved to Sonoma Co. To escape the exorbitant prices, well, I might as well be living in Marin again with the prices they charge now. Be prepared to pay BIG bucks for their services..:-(

This is a great clinic for my pets. It got so I was unable to spend the high prices of some of the designer pet clinics in Marin County. My Golden Retriever, who is the light of my life, needed a mass removed from her chest. I had taken her to our regular clinic in Marin, which I love, but they were going to cost $1200. I also took her to SF SPCA hospital to see if they could do the procedure. They gave me an estimate of $1800 to remove a lipoma... The lipoma was located in an area that affected her running so it really had to be removed. The Marin Humane Society recommended Dr. Hoskins at the Redwood Veterinary Clinic. I was very happy with their professionalism and their excellent care they gave my girl, and the best of all is that they only charged $500, including keeping her overnight to make sure she was okay.
