A week prior, I made a Monday appointment for routine "booster" shots. The day before our appointment, our Golden Retriever broke out with two hot spots, requiring immediate attention. I went to this vet because my mom goes to see him for her dogs. My cat was in pain with the claw of hers that had curled into her paw. I had no idea how bad it was until he trimmed her nails and then had to take it out of her Paw! He was gentle with her and everyone there was informative and he was very helpful. My sister referred me to here because they offer a $1 check up for your first visit, and we all know how expensive vet bills can be. I made an appointment on the phone and they got me in the very next day. The lady at the front desk was sweet and very accommodating to my cats daisy's needs before and after the check up. The doctor took his time explaining every possibility of what was concerning me with daisy, even giving personal examples from his own pets. They have a cute office cat that chills around the office, which I thought was a bonus for us cat lovers. The experience was great. However, what made this experience so special came a few days after the visit. I received two letters in the mail, one addressed to me and the other addressed to daisy. I took my chicken to Dr. Krome for a prolapse condition, and he was extremely engaged and helpful.  He answered every question and showed me how to handle it myself (if I want to!) if it happens again.  He also spent a good amount of time talking about chicken-care in general, since I am a relative novice in caring for them.  I have not often run into vets like him who are willing to talk in depth and length about a particular problem and additionally about a particular species.  I was really impressed and gratified by the care and concern of both Dr. Krome and the office staff.  I will definitely transfer care of my other critters to their clinic! I recently saw Dr. Krome in public and asked for his advice. I couldn't figure out why my poor kitty was so itchy. I use the "good" (and expensive) flea and tick applications that I purchase at Costco. When I asked doctor Krome if there was a sudden outburst in fleas he confirmed. He also suggested I only use Advantage. I stopped into PetSmart last night and picked some up, and applied it to Kitty as soon as I got home. Dr Krome and his staff are the best. Dr. Krome always has shown such kindness and caring when caring for my chocolate lab or even my chickens. Recently we had to have our lab put down. It was a Saturday and even though they usually close at noon they stayed so we could bring her in. They had a special room with a comfy couch so we could sit with her as she went to sleep for the final time. He sat with us keeping things light, and never rushing us. Went searching for a new vet and stumbled upon a coupon for Santa Rosa Veterinary Hospital in the Sonoma County Gazette for a $1 nose to tail exam. I called and spoke with Megan, who was super polite and personable over the phone, and we were able to get in the same day! When we arrived we were greeted by Lauren, who clearly knows how to dog whisper a nervous canine into comfort, cookies and kisses. Clearly very knowledgeable,  we felt instantly at ease with her, as did Shadow the Queensland Heeler. She listened attentively and answered all of our initial questions thoroughly.  Dr. Krome was also incredibly kind and knowledgeable,  and had an instant rapport with our pup. He addressed our concerns, and was able to run on site lab cultures in under 2 minutes,  dissolving our fears and putting us all at ease. Lauren then gave Shadow an awesome pedicure, and allowed us to assist by holding her while she got a gentle (and necessary ) nail clipping. Not an easy feet (pun intended ) for a paw shy dog. Bottom line, we have a new vet. An awesome crew, big thanks to Jean and Megan in the front office, and Lauren, Dean and Dr. Krome in the clinic side. Best Damn Vet in Sonoma County! Truly care about your pet not your wallet. You do have to pay but they always go above and beyond what you pay for. Great people from the front office to the back. If you love your pet like family and want to take care of them from the front to the back this is the place to go! This vet is the place to take your pets! They are so gentle and caring for your pets and make sure that they are comfortable and aren't too stressed. my cat had been so loud and in distress in her carrier out in the lobby, but once she was taken inside, the doctor and the assistant couldn't help but cuddle and fall in love with her, as my cat cuddled to them the same. When recieving her treatment, they listened to my needs, like how my cats may not be able to take pills, and gave me an alternative, something that I have never received from a vet before since they usually stress that the pill is really the only way to go. Santa Rosa vet hospital is where you need to take your furry friends because not only do they take good care of your fur babies, they make you feel like family. I don't stress about taking Gracie to the vet now that I've found this place. First of all everyone is extremely friendly, my daughter constantly asks if we can take Gracie (our cat) to the vet so she can hang out in the waiting room and meet all the different animals. When my cat was a kitten she had an emergency and they had me bring her in first thing in the morning and kept her for me so I could go to work, keeping me updated till I was off and able to get her. I love that when I bring her in they don't add on a bunch of stuff and up the bill. I've never looked at a bill and felt it was outrageous. Read Less

My dog doesn't love me anymore.  She's in love with Dr. Krome.  :-P   I think it has to do with the out pouring of love that she gets when she's there.  That has to speak for something especially since my dog isn't too people friendly.  I brought her in for a check up (she's  a 13 year old Vizsla) and left with confidence knowing that the doctor took his time to make sure my baby would be with us for a long time.  For any fur momma out there...Dr. Krome LOVES your pets (aka kids) and wants them as healthy as you do. I had just moved into the area and was looking for a vet to take my one cat to, as she was due for a couple of vaccines, and found Santa Rosa veterinary hospital. I made her an appointment with Dr. Krome and was completely satisfied with her visit. Dr. Krome was extremely friendly and educated me on the differences and necessities of different vaccines, and was very good at keeping Amber calm enough to deliver the shots, with the help of a vet tech. He also performed a wellness exam and examined her mouth and teeth, ears, and eyes which he discovered a tiny cataract that he said she was most likely born with and should not worsen with age. They were priced very reasonably and only charged me $1 for the office visit fee because we were a new client. It's a very small office and parking is a little tight but so worth it. Max didn't like the trip (to be expected), but Dr. Krome and his staff were top notch in how they handled him. Max endured it all (even the thermometer in his backside) with surprising calm. The surprise for me was the bill, which was lower than I expected. When I read the other reviews, I discovered a 2011 review where a pet owner wrote a long diatribe about rates. It certainly didn't match my experience. And, to be fair, it should be noted that Dr. Krome didn't own the business then, either. I particularly like the fact that his vet has a special certification for cat handling--not something all vets can claim. All said, I highly recommend Dr. Krome and Santa Rosa Veterinary Hospital! My original vet, Dr Steve Krome, moved up here from Blackhawk Veterinary in Danville so I will drive the 70 miles one to have him take care of my persian cats. I have been to 3 Vets in the last 2 months.  This hospital was recommended by Muttsville Rescue (SF). My new rescue had kennel cough which, of course, my other dog then got.  I was able to an appointment for the next day of my call.  My doctor was Steven Krome.  I was so impressed with his concern, thorough exam and information he provided on both my animals.  My visit for the rescue was $0.  A new pet exam for my other dog was $49.  When asked their prices for grooming (depends on size), boarding (under $20 for my 2 sharing a run). I felt they were VERY reasonable. Yes, the place is small and old but it was clean, the staff very warm and caring.  I believe their prices reflect CARE and not fancy buildings or slick office chairs!  I shall stick with this Vet until they prove they are not what I believe they are. We just moved from Canada to the US and had excellent vet care in our home country. We were worried about finding a good vet here in Santa Rosa, but one meeting with Dr. Bloomberg and we know we've found the best. Not just the best here, but the best we've EVER had. He's kind, extremely knowledgeable and takes his time with each animal he sees, providing all the details you need and more to make good decisions about your pet's care. Horrible servce! New Dr. and he does not know dog anatomy. Tried to tell me that my male dog had a hernia. When I seemed skeptical he then said oh no I am mistaken. When I came home I looked it up on the internet and saw that it was the Bulbis Glandis on my dogs genitals. What kind of Dr. does not know anatomy! It is the first thing learned in class! I take my African Gray parrot to Dr. Blumberg, and I would be willing to drive a long distance to keep taking her even if we relocated. He really understands birds and has parrots of his own. I had a terrible experience in the past with a vet that was inexperienced with birds, and unfortunately that bird did not survive treatment. So I appreciate a good avian vet more than most. Dr. Blumberg has successfully treated my bird for a bacterial infection and hypothyroidism. She also comes in to get her beak groomed and for occasional boarding. The staff all know us by name. Dr. Blumberg is the BEST! Having had a variety of animals over the last 30 years, have always found Dr. B to be thorough, caring, involved, passionate, knowledgeable, gentle, kind and reasonable. One or two staff members over the years have been in a bad mood on occasion, but overall the entire experience for both the animals and the owner(s) has been well worth the trip. Dr. Blumberg is an outstanding veterinarian.  He is kind, thoughtful and obviously loves animals.  We have been taking our pets to him for the past 31 years.  I've heard that his fees are higher than some other vets but, as the saying goes, "You get what you pay for, " and  he's the best.    Dr. Blumberg explains everything before offering his recommendations.  His office staff is always sensitive to their patients' feelings, particularly in emergency situations.  Last year our beloved dog had to be euthanized due to a sudden, serious health problem.  Dr. Blumberg does what's best for the pet and the family rather than prolong the suffering just to charge more fees.  He and his staff sent a thoughtful, personal card to us after our precious dog passed away.  We miss him everyday and still appreciate their thoughtfulness. Having been involved with a few parrot rescue organizations, I've seen the right way to keep an animal at ease during the stress of an exam.  The staff here know what they're doing, and I feel confident in their abilities to diagnose and treat my birds.  They let me come in the exam room with my birds, and are always forthcoming with what they're doing and why - including letting me know of any tests that should be done and when the results will be known, then walking me through the steps I need to take to make sure that any illness or injury is well treated, and anything I can do to prevent recurrences.I recommend that anyone who cares for their animal come here; they are not just professional, they treat with compassion. I would strongly recommend to any pet owners that they DO NOT go to this vet.  I brought in a cockatiel I had acquired, to have some suspicious looking injuries on the inside of each wing examined.  Not knowing this bird's history or how old the injuries were, the vet wanted to do a follow-up appointment before doing anything drastic, just to gauge if there were any changes over a two week period.At the "follow-up" appointment, they clipped his wings rather than re-examine them, because the front page of his chart said "wings" and apparently it was too much effort to turn the page to verify the actual nature of the visit.  I completely understand that mistakes happen (and that clipped feathers will normally be replaced with new ones during the next annual molt)... but what was completely unacceptable was the manner in which the folks at this office and the vet himself handled this mistake.  Rather than apologizing for any oversight, they simply stated in a repeated and accusatory manner that "if the chart says wings, we clip the wings."  And no, I didn't write the chart myself, so I have no idea how this is supposed to give me any confidence in their procedures or abilities.  I have serious doubts that the vet even glanced at him during this 2nd visit.  When I came to pick him up, they basically wanted me to pay the (expensive) bill and walk away, and everyone (including the vet) acted shocked that I had the audacity to ask any questions at all, despite the fact that this was a FOLLOW-UP appointment.  The poor bird was already flightless from his injuries - he certainly didn't need the stress of a clipping.I would never bring another animal to this facility.  Based on how the situation was handled it is my opinion that the staff simply doesn't care, and although the vet has probably gained a ton of knowledge in his 41 years as a vet, he has definitely lost any passion for the profession.  I mean come on, if the chart says "paws" do they just chop 'em off?
