HORRIBLE, This example of a veterinarian (Dr.Sloan) puts veterinary medicine to shame. You should be embarrassed of your behavior! We have been clients of theirs for over 5 years. I took my sick kitten to them 3 weeks ago. He was clearly displaying symptoms of being sick. He was immediately treated for an injury even though he had a high fever and was not eating or drinking. I told him we had taken in another rescue that had recently had an upper respiratory infection and he preceded to talk over me and insist it was an injury. My kitten was given an x-ray, sedation, and steroids and sent home($550 later). Within 2 days he had severe pink eye. He was then given the wrong medication and it made his condition worse ($150). At that point, we were a week into him still not feeling good so I then decided to transfer his care to another hospital. His eyes had gotten so bad and painful and it had transferred to the other eye. Not only did the eye medication not help it made it more painful for our kitten. Our new vet recommended we do a test to see what kind of infection he had and (what a surprise! NOT) it came up that he had and Infectious Upper respiratory complex. He was then given the proper eye ointment and antibiotics and is now on the mend finally. Who knows what would have happened if I kept my poor cat in Windsor Animal Hospitals care because he was committing malpractice on my cat at my expense to rack up a bill on something that was not necessary. I totally agree with another yelper about their opinion so I am going to use their words because I could not describe it any better. See below. BEWARE: Dr. Sloan is either negligent or worse, an opportunist. He just wants or needs to make as much money as possible. Wonderful, competent, caring staff who go above and beyond... I abandoned my previous vet after I experienced first hand what excellence in veterinarian care truly was. I've been to dozens of vets over the years and really can't praise Windsor Hospital enough. They are open seven days a week, have the only physical therapy program in Sonoma County (at least at the time of this review..) and are exceptional down to the last detail. My Dog Hank came to Windsor Animal Hospital with the worst allergies. His paws were blistered and his skin was red and itchy. Poor Hank was miserable but Then we met Dr Sloan and I can honestly say Hank is a changed Dog. Dr Sloan worked with us for months figuring out what worked for Hanks allergies and at times it was overwhelming but today Hank is doing great and is happy! A client of ours recommended Windsor when we needed a second opinion for our sweet Aussie. They got us in the next day and even were willing to get us in the same day, but I was unable to drive there in time (we are one hour away). From the moment we walked in I was impressed. The facility is top-notch and immaculate, the staff is warm, the Vets excellent and they made what was a very difficult situation bearable. PLEASE get a second opinion after having your pet seen here. My cat went missing and was taken to this vet by a kind person who found him. After running some blood work, I received a call that my cat was going into kidney failure and had full blown heart failure. I was told that I would be "supported" if I decided to put my cat down. I was NOT okay with this, so I took my cat to my regular vet, Laguna Vet (HIGHLY RECOMMEND!). After my vet reviewed the same blood work, I was told he is NOT going into early kidney failure and there is NO need to put him down! Yes, his heart has issues. He's an older kitty (13 1/2), but with some medication, he has some more years left in him. I was so grateful to have found my cat that I didn't even argue the $460+ bill! (ugh).. I also didn't find the staff very warm, friendly, or sincere. Read Less

We took our very sick kitty there. He had just had a bad experience at a different vet but they changed that. They were tender to his needs, set us up in a kitty only room, and treated him like a prince. Words cannot express my gratitude to Windsor Animal Hospital. I can only say that Dr. Sloan and the entire staff were so amazing in their efforts to help save my Boston Terrier. He was poisoned and went into instant severe liver failure. Due the the fast actions and choices on Dr. Sloans behalf, my dog was saved. He has completely recovered with normal liver enzyme levels which none of us expected. I see other people saying things about money, and I can't speak for them, but all I can say is they were worth every penny I spent! You get what you pay for and I have been with this office for quite a few years now and I can honestly say, they are worth it. The entire office knew my dog well and treated him with care and I felt safe leaving him in their hands. Even if the outcome had been different, I would still say the same thing. I moved to Windsor, CA around 2005 and shortly thereafter I had the good fortune of finding Windsor Animal Hospital. My dog at the time required veterinary attention and we were introduced to Patricia Piper, DVM. She is an amazing Veterinarian who clearly cares about all the animals she treats and the people who bring them to her. Since my first visit, I consider her my primary Vet at Windsor Animal Hospital. In addition to Dr. Piper€s great car, I feel that my dogs have received exceptional care from all the veterinarians working there. All the staff members that I have encountered over the years have been friendly, knowledgeable professional and quick to offer assistance. Recently I have had the opportunity to have my dog assessed by their Rehabilitation Specialist, Kristen Hagler, RVT, CCRP. My dog had an AACL tear surgically repaired several years ago and occasionally he will do something that increases his pain to the point that he will not bear weight on that hind leg. After the latest episode, he had an extensive evaluation by Kristen. When she was explaining her findings, I was very impressed by the detailed description of what was going on with his knee joint as well as the impact of his knee pain on his ankle and hip joints. Kristen€s knowledge of canine functional anatomy was superb. She described everything to me in a manner that I could easily understand, proposed several rehabilitation options, and provided a home exercise program that I am able to do without difficulty. Yes, I know vets are expensive, but this place is exorbitant! My dog had a serious ear infection and the first visit plus meds was over $300. It still didn't clear up, so I brought my dog back for more meds and spent another $300 +. He's still not improved, so Dr. Sloan wants to anesthesize him and x-Ray his ear drum. I can imagine this would be at least $500 more, right? I'm done pouring money down that ear. I found another vet who was able to see the ear drum is intact without need of an x-Ray! Total cost for exam and meds was $93. That's more like it. I only wasted $600 +! Sadly, my dog had to suffer for two months with ear pain when my new vet could have provided quick relief. On top of it all, Dr. Sloan seems quite full of himself while he spoke badly of my dog's breed. My dog was only asking to be petted, but the vet backed away with his hands up as if being attacked, telling me to take my dog's leash. You've lost my business of the past three years for my three dogs...I've spent thousands at your clinic! Read Less

HIGHLY RECOMMEND. We started coming here probably 2+ years ago, we travel all over USA with our dogs so have seen many vets far & wide, including in the Santa Rosa area (where we live). they were the first to give one of our Cocker Spaniels relief from chronic ear/yeast infections, they are always kind, professional & thorough. Yesterday we took our same 13+ year old Cocker in because we could see she wasn't feeling up to par...long story short, they got right on her issue, which turned into immediate blood transfusion & surgery to remove a football size mass, the doctors & nurses worked tiressly into the night (close to 10 o'clock ) but were unable to save our Sweet Girl...their dedication & compassion towards our fur baby & towards us was so genuine & heartfelt, we will forever be greatful. I don't even want to give one star but I had to highlight at least one to write a review. They won't fax your prescription in elsewhere so you can actually afford the meds they prescribe to your dog... and then when you question them regarding the difference between the name brand and the generic they blatantly lie to you about the ingredients between the two and that if you use the generic it will cause "liver damage" in your dog. I got numerous second opinions and every vet and pharmacist told me that the two contain the exact same ingredients. They wouldn't even authorize the generic form at my request to be filled. They are obviously getting a kick back from the name brand pharmaceutical company and are out to make as much money off of their fur babies as possible. I would never recommend this vet to anyone and have certainly spread the word among my dog walking friends to avoid it like the plague.Read Less

Have taken my dog here for 5 years now and have received pretty good care.... With an appointment... Yesterday my dog had an accident and injured her foot I called today (normal business hours) to get her looked at and was told they were all booked up but if I wanted to pay $20.00 more ($71.00 instead of the normal $51.00) they could get me in???? I guess for the extra cost they will make room? Well I found another Vet actually closer to me with a cheaper office visit $48.00 and could see her right away and found excellent care. I wanted to give 0 stars! DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE!!! We have had a very sick cat and they did x rays, ultra sounds, and exams and still did not know what was wrong. They gave my cat too much medication and he overdosed, and suffered more and felt worse. We called and told them what was going on and they said bring him in. Still no idea what was wrong 2,000 dollars in. We decide to go ahead with surgery, and when my husband is checking out they say on top of the cost of the ultra sound we will need to pay another exam fee. when my husband questioned that and said they didn't tell him ahead of time that we would have to pay an exam fee for a third time, Monica the manager was very rude and insensitive. Dr. Piper is good, but the staff and Monica the Manager are very unprofessional !! If I was the Doctor there I would take a close look at who I have managing my company. I cannot be happier with this place. I met Colleen a week ago and she told me she was a groomer here at Windsor Animal Hospital. Owning two dogs (a Pitbull and an English Bulldog), it's nice to meet someone who doesn't cringe at the first dog. Yesterday, I decided that I should have my bulldog groomed by Colleen. I called in, and realized his Rabies vaccine expired 10 days ago. NO PROBLEM! They were able to see Zeus, get him up to date on all his vaccines, a vet exam, AND get him groomed THE SAME DAY! I work in sales at a car dealership, so if I can't get anything done on my day off, it has to wait another week, but luckily that wasn't the case. I dropped Zeus off, went and grabbed lunch, he was taken care of, and when he was ready, I got a phone call to let me know. The staff loved him and it definitely shows. I am going to be bringing my dog back to see Colleen when he needs another grooming and I recommend anyone with a dog do the same! Read Less

I have been using Windsor Animal Hospital since the early 1990's when they were in their old location. Dr. Piper has always been extremely conscientious, compassionate, and well-informed about the health of my dogs. Recently I also had occasion to work with Dr. Sloane as my dog had a series of difficult malignancies to be removed. I found Dr. Sloane's surgical skills and expertise to be quite amazing, and my dog has recovered beautifully. The only other place that could do the surgery would be the animal hospital in Rohnert Park that specializes in such precision surgery but costs thousands more. I am very thankful to Windsor Animal Hospital for their work in keeping my dog healthy and costs down at the same time. Read Less

On Saturday, April 5th 2014, we took our 5lb. Pomeranian Roxy to the groomer at Windsor Animal Hospital. She had a lot of matted and knotted hair, which in a discussion with the groomer we authorized her to cut very closely to remove the knots. Be aware this review concerns only the grooming, the other services they offer I wont venture an opinion on. The groomer cut Roxy much too close to her skin in the area of her anus and vulva which resulted in our dog experiencing a lot of discomfort and pain. She also had pain in her spine. When the dog came home she kept scooting around the floor on her behind which she NEVER had done before. Every time she lay down she would jump up and yelp in obvious distress. She lost interest in food and she kept retreating to her kennel which she never does during the day. Two days later, we took her to Memorial Beach Veterinary Hospital for some relief. Dr. Dell examined Roxy and found she had a sore spot in the middle of the spine and also told us that the groomer cut too closely on Roxy's private parts, causing "what could be termed a razor burn". As part of the treatment, Dr. Dell gave Roxy an anti-inflammatory injection, a Lasercyte CBC, took a blood chemistry profile to make sure there was no infection, and also gave us a Dermacool HC spray to use on her behind and vulva to prevent infection and relieve the stinging sensation she was experiencing. All in all the vet bill ran to $301.00 which I was glad to pay to relieve Roxy's distress. Thank you Dr. Dell.Obviously we will never return to the Windsor Animal Hospital for ANY reason. Read Less

We have used Windsor Hospital for 3 years, and have been extremely happy. We had to have our cat put down a year ago, and they were very caring and concerned for my cats comfort as well as myself. I received a handmade sympathy card from the doc that took care of my cat, and I have it to this day. Now, we have a dog that they care for and couldn't be happier with his care. Of course I do understand the other reviewer commenting on the prices, but if you ask for an estimate, any hospital will give you one prior to service, just ask! All pet care is expensive, so if you don't love your pet like a member of your family, and want the best care for them, then maybe you shouldn't have a pet. Read Less

Brought my cat in and told them that he was having sneezing/coughing fits and that I believed he had a foxtail up his nose. They examined him and said they were sure there was no foxtail and he just had a cold so they prescribed some meds related to the cough and charged my for both the visit and the meds. A week goes by and he is still making what I call the foxtail sneeze noise, so I bring him back. This time he is seen by another vet at the same office who promptly pulls out a deeply embedded foxtail and charges me once again for a full visit. I questioned them about the misdiagnosis and my concerns were dismissed. I was told "Sorry but there is nothing we can do." I asked them to comp me the second visit and was told "We don't do that" I feel this office is incompetent, caused my animal to unnecessarily suffer for an extra week and double charged me. I cannot say enough great things about this facility. I have had a total of four cocker spaniels that I allowed to be cared for by Windsor Animal Hospital. Without any doubts I made the right choice. From the outstanding attentive staff at the front desk to the caring doctors, I just could not recommend them enough....and I do. Over the years I have had two of my cockers diagnosed with issues that would have taken them from me much sooner had they not worked so closely with me with medications and a detailed long term care plan. Those plans paid off and I was blessed to have them live the best and longest life they possibly could. Although I recently moved from Windsor to San Rafael I have not hesitated to continue to make the 40 minute one way trip. I have casually looked into other vet's closer to me here in Marin, but after an extensive search and a few phones calls to each I quickly learned there is only one Vet for me and my pups and that is WINDSOR ANIMAL HOSPITAL....hands down! Connie Bartlett is doing a great job teaching me and my dog in obedience training. I wish I had done this with my other dogs. I recommend this after three weeks. I highly recommend Windsor Animal Hospital. I have 2 dogs and whether they were seen for routine preventative visits or emergency care, I have been extremely pleased with the superb care and attention they received at Windsor. The staff is not only professional and well trained but they are compassionate about the well being of animals. They have great hours as well; recently my dog needed an emergency visit on the weekend and it was a relief to be able to see my regular vet at Windsor Animal Hospital rather than going to an unfamiliar emergency clinic elsewhere. I would love to say nice things about this hospital, but I do not have one. I have given this place TWO chances since we live so close by, but they have overcharged us (twice), executed procedures we never authorized them to (twice), and charged us for things they never even did (once). We when tried to discuss our concerns with them, the doctor wanted to try and help, but the owner did absolutely nothing to help solve the issue. I would never ever go back. Read Less
