I've been taking my dog here for ten years. The vets here have always been great, especially Dr. Cox. She is amazing and I'd give her 5 stars. But the current front desk staff is totally incompetent. They are disorganized, frantic, and don't know what they are doing. I've worked in positions like this enough to know the difference between busy and incompetent. Now that my dog needs regular follow ups and tech appointments this has become a major problem. I don't want to move to a different clinic but it's getting to that point. Read Less

The vets here don't know what they're doing.  I've had MULTIPLE problems with different pets I've brought here. I will NEVER go back again.   I usually have a mobile vet who will come to the house, but on occasions where it's emergency or where he doesn't provide the service I would go to the Pet Doctors. They did two of my girl rescue cats spay surgeries and when they had a follow up by my mobile vet he commented on how large the incision was and that it was totally unnecessary.  On top of being EXTREMELY OVERPRICED.  You are better off going to a place that does only that.  I've brought another female rescue here and they completely missed the fact that she had pyometra, and she was admitted to another vet for emergency 2 days after she was examined by them.  My other friend brought his cat who stopped eating to them, and after exam & blood panel which he had to constantly call to get the results.  He was seen by my mobile vet when the weekend was over and found that he had an ulcer in his mouth and that was the cause.  Clearly, didn't even check his mouth.  I've not had one good experience here.  Wouldn't recommend. I just adopted a shelter kitten, and she was already spay,and first round of shots given, with really cheap clinic vaccinations, I'll have to go back for all the MAJOR EXPENSIVE ROUNDS, coming up next! You do have to take, what ever corners they cut, being a lot of shelters are non-profit.....Ive had my kitten for 3 weeks now, and wanted to make sure, she was up to puuuurrr, in all departments, when my daughter AAA, took her doogie Nike, there as new patient, and said "how much they loved the place"!!! Now James, and I know why?! For one the parking is great, you turn off of busy Ventura Blvd, right into a parking lot, right in front of their offices, so NO METERS SUCKING UP COINS, while your inside worrying about your pet! Something small, but last all day...........???????EVERYONE  WELCOMES YOU, WITH NICE BIG SMILES AND LOUD HELLO'S!!!! I discovered this Veterinary practice through a neighbor who recommended them. I have been to many vets and I have to say this is by far one of my favorites. They are efficient, kind, understanding and the prices are very reasonable and there's no upsell. My little Jack Russell Terrier,who I thought was on her last legs,  has had a complete turnaround after my first visit to Dr Szanto. He advised me carefully and sensibly. He gave my little dog a very thorough and gentle examination and found the root of the problem quickly, with the  minimum of invasive investigative procedures. The reception is excellent, extremely helpful and very welcoming. I thoroughly recommend this veterinarian. And an added plus is that they have their own parking lot which is a huge plus in this busy area! Read Less

Heads up, if you get apoquell for your dogs allergies, it's HALF the price just by going to Banfield Pet Hospital. Recently transitioned to Banfield because every time I left here it was 3-400$. The people and service was good..it's just so expensive. I really only kept calling in to get my apoquell here (closer/more convenient), but today got my refill at Banfield and it was $40 instead of $80 at Pet Doctors. For a higher dosage too. Makes me think maybe everything here is just twice the price, and $50 a month for free office visits anytime + discount Inc services...had to make the jump. Read Less

My dog gets very anxious and stressed going to the vet. To try to ease her, I took her for a 30 min walk around the neighborhood and made my appointment mid afternoon on a weekday with the hope of getting fast service to get my dog in and out for her vaccine shot. When I arrived, nobody was waiting, but I was made to wait 20 minutes. I allowed my dog to sniff around, and I tried to calm her, but she became very anxious and stressed during the wait. Everything went fine with the vet. I mentioned my dog was experiencing skin irritations, so I was recommended a shampoo, and I agreed to purchase it. The shampoo cost me $60 at this office. I can get it for $30 on chewy.com. The shampoo is Douxo Calm Shampoo for Dogs & Cats. Expensive, but seems to be helping. Read Less

Going on 20 years living here, It has been impossibly hard to find a vet in Los Angeles I trusted with the care of my cats, and -- just as important -- with referrals to outside specialists. I liked my previous vet until a couple of specialist referrals turned out to be disastrous for my sick cat (RIP) and I once again set out to try to find the needle in the haystack: the vet who was an expert in cat care and also made excellent referrals. I have found this person in Dr. Cox. Dr. Cox loves cats. She treats them with genuine compassion, and because she is a cat owner she makes referrals to the specialists to whom she entrusts her own pets. I experienced so much anxiety last year because I never had someone I could trust with my beloved pets, and now I feel the opposite - that whatever comes up, my cats will receive the best care possible in LA. Every staff member I've dealt with at Pet Doctors has been kind, professional, and a class act. I would also add that even though Dr. Cox is sought after and busy, she always takes the time to talk to you in depth about test results, your animal's care plan, and absolutely anything you want to ask her. She is a rare find indeed and every time we visit her I walk out thinking, "I love my vet." Read Less

I've been coming here for 17+ years and the last few times I brought my dogs here, I felt like they just wanted to charge me as much as they could. I still think their doctors are good and the care is good but I've lost so much trust in dr szanto because my bill went from $500 to over $2000 for procedures my dog didn't need. My dog is 11 yrs old and has old man skin warts. Anyway they removed them because they said they might be cancerous. Turns out they just grew right back and are known to be something old dogs get. I'm thinking I need to find someone I can trust with my dogs' health that also has an honest way of doing business. Read Less

I'm very disappointed is this veterinarian hospital. I've been coming here for years because a coworker recommended this place. I would come to bring my dog but only for her vaccines because she's healthy until I had to bring my other dog for medical care.  I took my pet because he was sick. They examined him and ran some test. But they could not determine what was wrong with him. They gave him medicine and the bill came out to more than $570. I mentioned to the vet my pet was not eating and they told me to just monitor him. I did my own research and found out that if a pet doesn't eat for several day their organs can start to shut down. Why wouldn't a professional expert tell me this?!!I went for a second opinion elsewhere and it only cost me $75 and I got the best care. They diagnosed my pet, they forced feed him because he was not eating, they gave him a couple of shots to boost his energy, gave him vitamins and send me home with medicine and it all cost me less than $100. My pet had a sever infection. I got home and my pet started to eat and started to act like himself again. He ate the entire day all his food, something he had not been doing for more than 3 days. So why is it, that the Pet Doctors of Sherman Oaks couldn't diagnose my pet, give him this kind of attention and help me get my pet to eat and make him healthy again. These are our children and we want the best for them. I will not be bringing my pets here ever again and I have been a client for several years. I'm glad I found another place in the valley that really cares about the pets and not your money. I'm still in shock that The Pet Doctors of Sherman Oaks charged me so much and didn't do anything for my pet..I should give them one star but since I've been coming for years, I'll  give them a two. As a new puppy owner, I'm so glad to have found an amazing animal hospital and vet! Méko and I have been to the Pet Doc's of Sherman Oaks and have seen Doctor Dulake twice, and we have been very happy with our experience. The ladies at the front desk are super friendly and communicate everything very effectively and patiently. Both times we were seen almost instantly and everything was very prompt around the appointment times. Doctor Dulake is incredibly friendly and thorough; she took the time to answer any and all questions I had, and also explained everything in great detail as she went through the exam. While puppy exams may be routine, as a first-time pet owner, it was so great to see a doctor who truly cared about my little guy's health and well-being. You can immediately tell that Dr. Dulake is incredibly passionate about her work and truly loves what she does. Following the exams, the office was super quick to get Méko's lab results back and also check up on him to make sure he's doing alright. Lastly, it's awesome that the office will send in all insurance claims on your behalf! The communication, professionalism and awesome quality of everyone working at the Pet Doctors of Sherman Oaks is pawesome for new pet owners! Highly recommend them and especially Doctor Dulake! When I called my old vet's office one day a while back, and found out Dr Buntrock was no longer there, and they said they didn't know where she went, I panicked. Luckily a good Google search found her now practicing here.  The first time I met her, my first thought was "She's a bit young, does she know her stuff?"  But she completely "wowed" me with her ability to clearly explain what was going on with my dog. I do have some medical background (clinical dietitian), so one thing I appreciated is feeling like she met me on my level to discuss my pet.  I felt like as she explained things to me, she was simultaneously assessing what I knew, and explained things fully, without talking down to me.  Also, she was originally recommended to me by a semi-retired vet who I respect so much, and I value his opinion as to where to go for veterinary care.  She is gentle, knowledgeable, and clearly shows affection for your pet.  Even though my dog's chart has bright orange "she bites!" stickers on every page, she always patiently goes through her exam without a muzzle, until she starts to bare her teeth, and then, well, it's time for the muzzle!When she presents an assessment with recommendations about what I should do, she is completely without judgment about it, if there is some part I can't afford right now, or just don't want to do yet for some reason.  I have been at other vets who really "push sales," and this is not one of those offices.  There are (unfortunately) often times when I cannot afford everything recommended, and she is always willing to come back in the room and discuss what seems most important to her, and we whittle it down to what I can manage on that visit.  And she has always been respectful of whatever my decision is regarding what care plan I accept at the moment.    I came across Holly L's assessment of this office, and I don't know what to say except that I am so sorry for your loss, but Dr Buntrock is not the person you describe.  She is compassionate and caring, and I have never had a vet give me SO much information in such a clear manner about my dog in a single visit. If she wanted to "sell" you a certain test or something, perhaps it was because she suspected a serious condition and needed the test to assess it.  I obviously don't know, and don't want to make any judgment about what happened for you.  But she has never interrupted me, and has always encouraged my questions, patiently repeating herself or explaining things in a different way when I didn't "get it."  I have always felt like she is completely focused on my pet when she's in the room, and has taken whatever time I needed to go over her condition.  My Amy is also a senior dog.   I have total confidence in Dr Buntrock, and am very happy to have settled in with her as my veterinarian!  I recommend her highly to anyone who is not already super-happy with their current vet provider. ASK FOR DR. BUNTROCK SHES AWESOME!!!!!I have been meaning to write a review for Dr. Laura Buntrock for quite awhile now. She is by far the most outstanding veterinarian I've ever had.From my first experience with her I knew I had found the perfect person to care for all my pets.I have to say I was shocked to see such a negative review for Dr. Buntrock but after reading it a couple times it's quite clear the person who wrote it was devastated by the loss of her dog. You can hear the pain in every word she wrote and I feel really sad for her. When people grieve so deeply things can get really clouded because the doctor she describes couldn't be at the more opposite end of the spectrum from the Dr. Buntrock I've come to know and trust to care for my pets.I had to have one of my dogs put to sleep over a year ago and having Dr. Buntrock made a very painful situation as easy as it could've been. She explained everything to me,some things more than once cause I was so upset but she was so kind and didn't rush me at all. It felt like I had a family member beside me with how compassionate she was. She even called me a few days later to see how I was. It really showed me just how genuine she really is and how serious she takes her responsibilities.Whenever I've taken either my one remaining dog or one of my two cats to Dr. Buntrock I've received only excellent care. She's very knowledgeable and thorough.She explains everything very clearly and informs me of all the options I have along with the cost of each thing whether it be tests or medications. She's careful to perform the correct tests for a firm diagnosis so she can then prescribe the proper treatment. No matter if the issues are simple or complicated she always makes sure I don't leave until I completely understand what's going on and what is expected of me for their home care as well as what follow up care may be needed. If you're in need of an amazing veterinarian who is thorough,compassionate and very skilled choose Dr. Buntrock or Dr. B as all of us who love her calls her. Read Less

My fiancé and I have been bringing our new puppy here for a couple months now. The short version, they charge too much and provide okay service. I brought my dog before to see why he's been having irregular bowel movements. After hundreds of dollars and unnecessary medication, apparently all I needed to do was change his food. Which I found out from a suggestion from a fiend. Now I brought him in today to check for a skin disease. When my older dog was going through the same thing, our old vet ran a blood test, found out about he problem, and assigned the medication, all around $250. I'm already at over $300 with no medication and no results. I'm presuming that my situation is unique to me. Everyone else who's walking in and out seems to be pretty happy and or satisfied with their pet care. But for me, it's time for a new vet. Read Less

Dr. Caldwell is a great vet. I feel so lucky to have found him. He is gentle and kind and will give your pet the best possible care. I have never had to wait more than 10 minutes for an appointment. The staff are friendly and competent. If your pet means everything to you like mine does, you can trust this place. The best vet I have ever found in my life and I will never go anywhere else again. I have been going to Szanto for many years. The only reason I have kept going is because of the Vet not the staff. I agree with you regarding the fees. I have tried to find another vet. I used to go to an office (not sure why I left them) Where they came in with a treatment plan and pricing and gave you the option up front. I just came from Szanto for a simple thing and it cost $300.00 I was shocked. It was more then I expected. I think I'll try and find another place that has upfront pricing. They do not work with you on financing at Szanto and do treat you in an uncomfortable manner when you ask. I'm sure the fees are a problem for some people and to treat you otherwise is just plain rude!! They is an underlying feeling if you don't do all treatments or if you care about the cost you must not love your pet. Which is untrue, for some people we may wish to shop around like we do for ourselves. I also think with pet insurance being added to the picture Vet prices may be jacked up. Read Less
