Very disappointing. Feel like the Dr. Sleep doesn’t take the time on his consult. We went in for an emergency tooth infection that was just glanced at and sent us home with an antibiotic. We were scheduled for a morning sedation and extraction which we followed the doctors instructions. When we arrived for check in we sat for 20 minutes to which the front desk starts asking questions about previous surgeries. Then she reconsults with the doctor— which she then comes back to tell me that I need to go somewhere else. This is beyond frustrating. I rescheduled clients to accommodate them to be sent home. I find this to be irresponsible. They should of consulted better... horrible experience. Read Less

My family has been  coming to his office for literally decades so naturally I followed suit.  But over the years the doctor's have changed and the staff has changed and it's just no longer that sweet small town veterinary clinic.   I hated going there but was a victim of a very long habit that needed breaking! The receptionist is simply nasty. You can just feel she hates her job and helping people and she has mastered that saccharine kind of fake passive aggressive demeanor that you can't really call out cause she never says anything too rude on face value but her nastiness drips off her words like hot tar.   Every time I go, I wonder why I don't just get a new vet.  The vet techs (you rarely see the vet)  really aren't all that great with my dogs, or patient, and so today I called another vet with 23 five star reviews about two miles farther down the road.  The gal was great on the phone, took the time to talk to me about my dogs and I made an appointment! I never have to go back to this place again, I should have done this years ago for me, and for my animals.  I would not try this place out.  There are better and nicer offices out there. Read Less

Dr. Sleep puts policy above pet care. Took my cat there yesterday for a pre-dental exam. When I arrived and given paperwork, I was told all pets have to have a rabies vaccine. (Why didn't they mention that on the phone?) I said I would discuss with the doctor once in exam room. He looked at my cats teeth (clearly needing dental care) and listened to her heart. He stated she has a "bad heart murmur and nobody will do dental cleaning/anesthesia" before treating it. I'm, of course, very upset (crying). Discuss options right now-antibiotic shot for gum infection that'll last 2 weeks (while I figure out what to do about the heart). I choose that option...he leaves and assistant comes in and gives me price for antibiotic shot AND rabies shot. I explain since I don't know what is going on with her heart and she is an INDOOR cat I don't want to do the rabies at this time, preferring to do a bit of research. He comes back and refuses to treat at all (no antibiotic) because I'm refusing vaccine! I understand if they have a policy of not wanting to put an animal under anesthesia if they're not vaccinated but she is sitting on his table in his exam room! It felt like a power struggle- his way or the highway. Not my idea of a caring veterinarian! I left and she is going to a more open vet. CA state law does NOT require rabies shot for cats...only dogs. So, if you don't question status quo and go along with all western medicine...then maybe he's the vet for your pet....not for me. I have been coming here with my pets since I was a child.  I LOVE these guys!!!  Since moving to Santa Rosa I have tried a couple vets in  my area and am back at Sonoma Animal Hospital.  Worth the drive without doubt. They are always caring, quick, and smart about what they do.  They won't suggest tests or meds that your pet does not truly need.  They're not here to take your money, but to take fantastic care of your pets.  And they do!!I cannot recommend them highly enough. I am continuously disappointed in this vet office. There are many specific situations that come to mind when it comes to this office and why I am giving it 1 star, but i will keep it short. It started with the time I took my younger dog to them and they handed me meds and I asked what they were for and the response was "I don't know." Followed by continuous horrible customer service (we are in the land of hospitality... you have to atleast TRY to be nice). Don't ask me 5 times (I am not exaggerating) what my last name is and then ask me to spell it. Get some people in the front office who can hold it together when someone spells out their 7 letter last name. One of our dogs has gone there his whole life and it has been my husbands request that our dog continue to see Dr. Sleep. But he is rude. Acts like everything is an imposition and doesn't explain what is going on with your animal.Do not go to this vet. Read Less

Honestly, I should have written this review a long time ago. About 9 months ago I brought my Daughters classroom Rat home to live with us. Like many female rats she had very quickly developed tumors and cysts, Some cancerous and some not, but either way it was too sad for the kids to see her getting weaker and weaker. Squeaky's tumor had gotten so big she could barley walk. I figured her days were numbered and couldn't watch her suffer anymore. I called Sonoma Animal Hospital and they were able to see her the same day. When I arrived the staff was pleasant and helpful.  Dr. Sleep was able to take a look at Squeaky and without hesitation he said, "lets make an appointment for surgery, I'll remove the tumor and see how she does." I was so surprised. I figured because she was just a rat the answer would be euthanasia. Long Story short, Dr. Sleep and his staff did a wonderful job. They removed her tumors and gave her a second chance at life. Not only did they take impeccable care of her, because she was a classroom rat they did it all for free, follow up visits and all. The 1st grade kids of Prestwood were so happy they all wrote thank you letters and on the last day of School Squeaky was healthy enough to make it back to the classroom to say goodbye. Sadly, Squeaky passed away not too long ago, she peacefully fell asleep and didn't wake up. Although just a little rat, she touched many lives and restored faith to never give up hope. Thank you to the entire team at Sonoma Animal Hospital. Read Less
