I interned at Hardin for a couple of weeks and what I saw impressed me. The sad truly cares about all the animals they care for and they take care to show the owners how much they care. They do great work in carrying for all their patients and truly love what they do. My family and I have been bringing our pets here for years, most recently however, one of my cats came down with some sort of eye infection (I assume from getting scratched or something) and I brought him in initially to get a shot of antibiotics and some eye ointment. This worked for a few days but suddenly Wednesday night he had a fever again and it looked as if the infection had spread to his other eye. So we took him in Thursday morning and he ended up staying overnight to get a nice continuous dose of antibiotics. This is one of my biggest fears because you never know how your pet will be treated, you aren't there to protect him/her, and on top of being in a weird and new environment without your family and their smells, they feel crappy. But I know my kitty was treated well because when we picked him up the next day, I could hear the women that went to get him in the back talking to him so sweetly. It was comforting to know that they not only didn't abuse my cat but treated him kindly. Lastly, vet bills are the biggest reason people end up not taking their pets to the doctor when they need to but I can assure you that this place is extremely affordable and it's not at the loss of service quality. This veterinary hospital is OUTSTANDING!!! The Dr and his staff are so kind, caring and generous. They saved our Springer Spaniels life! We took our 6 yr old Cindi in because she wouldnt eat and she was drinking A LOT of water and throwing it up. She was in full blown liver failure. Dr said he could keep her for a few days on IV meds for $800. There was a 50/50 chance after treatment that she may not make it. We were forced to make a decision i dont ever want to go through again. We didnt have the funds to get treatment for her. We were going to have to put her down. I was devasted. She is my baby!!!! But when we told the Dr we had to let her go he asked us to give him a couple days with her at less then half the original price quoted to see if he could save her and he did!! She is doing great!! Dr. Vicuna is the BEST! He takes such good care of every animal that goes in there. I brought my baby girl Boxer Mix in when she was soooo sick. Most people wouldn't immediately put their face up to a random dogs face (especially her breed). He did though! He could tell she was feeling sick and put his face right up to hers and let her give him kisses! It was so sweet! My family and I have brought our pets to Dr. Vicuña for over 20 years. He has always been patient and thorough with our beloved animals and the many rescues and fosters we've brought in over the years, some of whom as he has so humorously put it, "pay his bills with all their problems"! Many of the rescues we brought in were in terrible health and we have always gotten sound advice and excellent service at very agreeable rates. Dr Vicuña earnestly cares about the animals (two and four-legged) that come into his clinic, and it shows. We highly recommend him.Just after wroting my original review, on New Year's Day, our family cat was attacked by a loose pit bull. (Must be the owner not the breed, right?) Dr Vicuña and his staff emitted him right away. The cat had to stay the weekend with a promise that they would call the next day if it wasn't looking good. The cat's temperature was very low and he was ripped open pretty badly. When we didn't receive the call, we were all so relieved. So I been coming here to take my pug for over 10 years. They always took such good care of my dog, they saved her life couple of times.  Once when she was younger,  and another time when she needed an emergency spay at 13 years old because of infection.  I was so scared I was going to loose her.  However she recovered,  and was a happy pug! I would bring her in just for check ups,  because she was a senior dog. I loved how the staff all knew her name,  she would wag her tail and say hi to them all. So I knew they have treated her well with love.  But just like all good things,  they have to end.  My dog was 14 years old when she died.  It was difficult to handle emotionally but the vet took such good care of her.  And supported us through a difficult time.  If I ever get a pet,  I will take them to Hardin vet, they truly love animals. The staff here is great! They can get you in at a moments notice in the mornings. My boyfriends family has been going to them for years and now we are taking our new puppy as well. It might not be in the best part of town but there is always parking right out front for an easy in and out. I highly recommend them. Read Less

Went to an event about 7 years ago, the event was off El Dorado, to spay and neuter your pit bulls, WoW! So many people showed up, they also offered all shots and micro chips for any of your dogs, after all the work this amazing man does at his own clinic, he still donates his time to the poor and their animals! We have four dogs and five cats and Dr. Vicuna I and his staff take great care of all of them. One of our cats has diabetes and one of our dogs takes a daily pill for hypothyroidism. Today I had to take one of my fur babies to the vet. I cannot express my gratitude for Hardin Animal Hospital and Dr. Patricio Vicuna enough. He, throughout all my years of having him treat my animals, has always been compassionate for the animal firstly and secondly holds nothing back when it comes to the needs of your baby. No sugar coating, just an honest, caring man that proves he loves animals beyond a paycheck. Our appt was made this morning, I went in and my baby Ruby needed emergency surgery to be spayed due to a really bad infection that occurs in female dogs. Any longer and she would have had to be put down. As a mother, and avid animal lover, I could not feel more at ease with her in his care. He even personally went back to the office and called me this evening to let me know how she is doing. I dont know many veterinarians who would make a personal follow up call and complete the surgery so late in the day. The Universe and God are great. I had a friend whose black lab was seriously injured in an accident yesterday brought his dog to this place to see what could be done to save her. The vet there REFUSED to treat her and turned them away because they were about to close for the day. Therefore the owner had to watch in horror as his companion passed away while suffering in severe pain. Great ethics for a vet. You should be ashamed of yourselves. This morning at the meet in Stockton while photographing the Oakdale local as it transitioned onto the BNSF, KevO and Vandi were on the far side when Vandi ran under the train while it was moving.We rushed Vandi to the Hardin Veterniary Hospital where Vandi passed away from her injuries after the vet there refused to treat her because they were closing in an hour.To say that we asre angry, hurt devastated is an understatement. I brought my dog in for a surgery to remove a tumor or mass on his neck and spent over $600 dollar. In the beginning  i thought everything was until they collected the money. The stitches was sloppy and deformed look like a half ass job. For over three weeks i repeatedly came here  because my dog was not healing and his stitches keep opening up. After continues visit about my dog concern i felt that there were irritated with me and don't care about my dog needs. So I decided to find a another vet which  was California Dog & Cat Hospital had to do the surgery again. This time it was money well spent after about a week my dog was fully recovered and quality of skills was far better then the vet here. Dr. Vicuña came highly recommended by a family member. So after bring extremely disappointed in another vet in Stockton my husband and I decided it was time for a change. I immediately saw his concern with what my dogs skin concerns were and told me of another food to try and a strict diet. Queenie has had major improvement and with no harmful steroids. Queenie also suffers from horrible ear infections, upon this last exam Dr. recommend surgery to help relieve our poor baby from this constant reoccurring problem. Hardin Hospital is an accommodating facility right from when you step in. I had an appointment at 11:00 AM and all I had to do when I walked in was announce that, and they placed my dog and I in a separate room for a follow up. I had to come here for my dogs skin condition which a hospital in Sacramento (not naming them) was no help and took a lot of money and had us in and out of their facility (charging each time). The very first visit here the doctor announced he specialized in skin support and conditions which is what we were exactly looking for. The blood test here cost us $100 to see what our dog could be potentially allergic to, the other place was trying to charge us $600, huge price difference.Right from week one improvement was noticed and my dog's skin was becoming better. If you have a dog with a skin condition or issue, I HIGHLY recommend coming here. It is located in Stockton but well worth the drive. Meds cost us another $38, special shampoo was another $30, and skin supportive food was another $50 for a 5lb bag. All in all ended up with a $500 bill, and results are astounding.  At the Sacramento pet hospital spent well over $1,000, and had no improvements.Thanks Doc. Read Less

Came to this place for our pit, when he got his first shots, treatment for Parvovirus and microchipping. They are a friendly establishment with a wonderful vet that was very informational and kind. I went in today for Reeko's second shots and microchipping, I was in and out of there within 30 mins. I do wish that I got to see the vet though. I only saw the vet tech and the receptionist girls. When we went in a year ago, Reeko caught parvovirus and we couldn't get him to rehydrate enough to the point where he would get better so we went to Hardin for help. They did any amazing job, they kept him for a week and back to his original self. Our experience have been good so far. Read Less

Super, compassionate and kind staff with a great Doctor behind them all. Patricio is a meticulous Vet with a great bedside manner for all 3 of our Westies. Maybe he just loves the breed but he is always glad to see out little guy and girls and chat them up. They kinda like him alot to and pepper him with kisses and nudges. Must be something he is, you know how dogs are when it comes to knowing ones mettle!Now that Cathy has joined the location it is a one stop shop for us. Although we miss Cathy's old location (right around the corner from our house) we know that she is there, will do a GREAT job grooming our pals for their gala events and we can also get a check up from the good Doctor!We have been coming to Hardin for 4 or 5 years now and would not think of ever going to another vet. Dr Vicuna loves animals and it is very apparent. I had to bring my Yorkie in several times because she was very ill and I knew she was in good hands. When it was time to let her go, he showed she and I the greatest of respect and it made a small part of my pain a bit more bearable. I will miss her so much but I know it was the right thing to do because I know if there was anything the doctor could have reasonably done, he would have. He's not there just to run "tests" and empty your wallet.The staff is sweet and considerate of your needs.
