I took my dog in as an emergency appointment due to him breathing poorly. He was examined and diagnosed with aspiration pneumonia which required hospitalization of three days. The final day of hospitalization I had to transfer him to a different facility as this one wouldn't have staff available to care for him. I was to transfer him back to Venetian on the next day they were open but was told he could go home and to follow up in two weeks. My dog was still not doing well but I was unable to speak to the doctor because he was busy. So I took my dog back for the two week appointment. He was still very weak. The technician took Bear back for X-rays and then they told me we could go. I did not get to speak to the doctor. The next day the doctor called to say the x-ray shows my dog still has pneumonia so come back again in two weeks. I arrived at my appointment on time (which they rescheduled to 11:30). The office closes from 12-1 and I had to wait to be seen. The tech did take X-rays again. I said well I need to talk to the doctor about my dogs condition and I have some questions. The doctor came in and told me I don't have time to see all my patients every visit and left without answering any questions or examining my dog. A week later I received an X-ray report with no phone call or explanation of it's contents. My dog is still recovering and I will now have to take him elsewhere to get answers about his condition. I spent over $2,500 to receive treatment fir my very ill dog of I received horrible customer service. Everytime I went they pre charged me before I received services and then left me out to dry when the visit was over. Regardless of how much one spends, receiving care for our beloved pets should be done in a manner in which we feel cared for and supported and not like ATM machines that are not worthy of a ten minute conversation to help us understand our pet's medical condition. I do not recommend using this vet office an they have no compassion and don't have time to see their patients when they come for scheduled visits. Read Less

I have been a loyal customer for a few years driving down from Roseville because I loved the great customer service I received and the attentive care my dog got. The last 6 months or so the care and customer service and care has become so poor I am looking for a new vet. The last time I visited I brought in my two dogs. They gave one dog a $200 allergy shot that has done nothing to improve his suffering. He got the shot without consulting me or telling me the price. I brought in my other dog for a nail trip and a shot they had had emailed me saying was due. I asked the tec who was doing his nails if it were possible to trim some of the hair on his paws. I was charged an extra $20 because they said my little dog was being "difficult" and they did not trim his fur they only cut his back nails and left his front ones long. When I went to pay I was handed a huge bill that I had no knowledge that I was accruing. I had to take my little dog to a groomer who charged me half the price to do what I had wanted done. The groomer said he was fine and wasn't being difficult. I even peeped though the window to watch. I have never had any complaints about my dog being difficult when being groomed. It is not his favorite thing but he tolerates it. If my little dog was being SO difficult they should have just stopped and told me. Not charge me twice for something they did not want to do. We went here because our cat was adopted from Pet N Pals and they paid for a visit. Overall nice but I'm not certain about quality care. The dr was really nice and even called about our kitty. Well that's what I'm assuming as he had the wrong name. They seemed really nice and definitely cheaper then our vet in Manteca but I do have a concern that maybe they are a little rough on the animals. I'm not saying they hurt the animals but our cat had a problem with her leg and it just seems like he was being a little too rough with it. I have been a customer for over 10 years and paid thousands of dollars here for my pets care. My problems started when his new office staff took over (especially his office manager and receptionist). They are extremely rude and unprofessional, even in front of other customers. I have never been treated this way in a so called "professional" office. Dr. Ayres seems to have no say on what goes on in his office anymore and will not take a stand against their treatment of his paying customers. He seems to have checked out. Venetian pet hospital is a friendly pet loving environment. The environment is professional and every staff member genuinely cares about the well being of the clients and their pets. Recently, we took my aunt's dog in for a check up because he didn't look like he was feeling too well. They ran all the necessary tests to make sure they weren't going to do excess damage after finding a mass near his heart. He's an old dog and we opted to let him live out the rest of his life in peace instead of having a risky surgery and we wouldn't have been able to make that informed decision if it wasn't for the knowledge they possessed and the consideration they showed by being so informative. I definitely appreciate the redheaded girl up front. She was very kind and empathetic and made this hard time go a little easier. Read Less

I don't even  know where to begin with these so-called "professional" people.... I have been a customer of Venetian Pet Hospital in excess of 10 years and have spent thousands of dollars there.  I have always found Dr. Ayres to be very nice (although his capabilities continue to go down hill due to his illness).  I have had several friends along the way tell me I should change veterinarians due to this practices, but I have remained loyal to him.  For one, I have found that no matter what you bring your pet in for he always schedules a follow-up appointment that you have to pay for.  He runs a lot of expensive tests for recurring ear infections and allergies that he should already be aware that my dog is prone to, etc. The number of times that he has done things he should be embarrassed about, I won't even talk about on here to save him additional embarrassment. In addition, I once brought a little dog in to him that had been hit by a car.  I told him I would be responsible for him and to call me & let me know what they were going to do.  Well, the doctor called me only to tell me that they had euthanized him without even talking to me first.  I have often wondered if this was really the truth or they were afraid they were going to be stuck with the costs. That said, the final straw came to day when I brought my Shih Tzu, Brodie,  in for his usual allergies.  When I went into the office I realized that I had left my wallet at home and offered to bring payment in the next morning.  I really expected that since I had been such a loyal customer and have always paid on time, it would be no problem (again, I have paid thousands to them on my animals over the years).   Anyway, the very rude receptionist (I have always found her incompetent since the new office staff took over) proceeded to tell me that their policy is payment due at the time of treatment and they would make no exceptions for anyone.  She suggested that I return home to get my wallet and bring him back.  As I was getting no where with her and she was getting ruder and ruder, I asked to talk to Ayres.  She said I didn't need to bother the doctor and would get her "office manager" on the phone.  When she came back she said the office manager backed up what she told me 100% and that if I didn't like it I could take my business elsewhere.  I have to admit that right about this time I was getting a little hot under the collar, but she continued to try and argue and continued to get in the last word (very rudely, I might add).  To make a long story short, she did go in to get Dr. Ayres after slamming the door very loudly.  When Dr. Ayres came out and I told him about how rude his staff was since they changed over, he said he had heard every word and his receptionist was not out of line in any way.  Once again, I will admit I was very angry and had a few things to say to her myself, but I have never been treated this way in a professional office.  The least she could have done was close her big mouth and get the doctor before it escalated to that point.  In closing, I will just say that Dr. Ayres acted very timid and was not about to go against what his office manager or receptionist said and would not work with me.  I am really convinced that he does not have any authority with this new bunch of "Nazi" staff and if it means losing valued customers, so be it.  Upon leaving I asked how to go about getting my animals records transferred to another vet and she said (with a smirk) that just call and they would send them in a "timely" manner.  She then gave me a big smirky smile and waved "bye-bye"..  I felt like punching her in her smug face, but am smart enough to know that would  not be the high road to take.  As I walked out, she said Stockton is a small town and I had better hope I did not run into her outside of their office.  All in all, I was very hurt about the doctors lack of concern but at this point say "good riddance" to Venetian Pet Hospital and its gestapo office staff! I took my dog to get neutered at this facility and they sent him home without a cone because they said "he was not licking" the area. He was not licking the area because he was post anesthesia. A few days later I noticed him licking the area with some swelling and redness. I called their office and they told me it "wasn't their responsibility". The lady on the phone was extremely rude and raised her voice at me while continually telling me how it wasn't their responsibility. I will never take my dog here again and I think this is a poor facility, a patients care should be pre-procedural (informing us how he is doing during surgery), during the procedure, and post procedure care. That is what I paid over $200 dollars for, not just to snip him and send him on his way. I will take my dog back to the other vet. Read Less

I took my GSD here after I adopted her, because she went here for her hematoma and ear infection. When my fiancée and I brought her Dr Ayres seemed to struggle with some sort of disease, because my dog was laying still and he almost tripped over her trying to get a swab from her ear. Long story short, the doctor said her ear infection was completely gone and healed. But she kept rubbing her ear on the couch, scratching at it and the ear looked red and couldn't see into her ear canal. So I took her to a local vet and the Dr took one look at her ear and said it had a really bad infection and bacteria. So they had to shoot some kind of medication into her ear canal for four weeks straight, along with other medications. I am happy I did not agree with Dr Ayres and instead followed my gut feeling that something was still wrong. Second opinions are always best. Not to mention they told me it took four people to hold her down to put drops in her ear. My poor pup was scared when she came back out from the back. And thy wanted me to do the same to her when there are other ways to treat the ears that won't traumatize the dog. Now my GSD is well and her ear is healed :-) I do have to agree with other posts, that I could hear the manager yelling at her workers and cussing at them. Made it a stressful and uncomfortable thing place to be :-/ Read Less

I am a new pet owner and I have so many questions about the care and health of my girls. I read and try to be informed before appointments so I can get my questions answered. The stuff is very helpful and kind, the organization provides decent costs for care but my dissatisfaction is with the quality of the care. My disappointment is with the lack of a through general check up. A general check for our 4legged family members should be a hands on check up. Not by eye sight. Gums need to be checked, teeth inspected, legs touched, stomach touched, a more hands on check up including at skin color, fur texture, fur feel, checking on how the surgeries for spaying heeled. None of these happen. I entrust my babies to a check up to keep up with disease prevention and prevention of added vet costs. I do more of these check ups at home for free. I have 2 Beautiful German Shepherds and it gets expensive caring for my two girls. As a Fur mommy I want a very hands on check up to see and get feedback on my girls health. I was not satisfied with simply looking at my girls ears, eyes and a quick 3 second touch on their stomachs..this was the vast of the check up. When I prove for gums and eye and paths etc., ...doctor told me oh she looks fine. This is not satisfactory to me. Kids or dogs deserve a through check up. Read Less

Guess who just became our permanent veterinarian. Took my cat Lucky in due to a bad itching problem he had. This little boy is very timid, the staff was so gentle with him, which I appreciated so much. I can't imagine how hard it is for animals to be handled by strangers, so the fact they showed such care showed me a great deal about their ethic. The final bill was literally a shock, I'm used to the $200 + range no matter what is happening. I look forward to a long association with Venetian Pet Hospital in the future. I have several rescue cats to keep healthy, cost is a huge issue for me, so a vet office that makes it possible for me to give them the best care and still keep a roof over our heads is greatly appreciated.

They are extremely rude and unprofessional, even in front of other customers. I have never been treated this way in a so called "professional" office.
