Following an extensive investigation, the California Veterinary Board issued Citation #2658-C against Dr. Clyde Pitts, Owner of Studio City Animal Hospital. Dr. Pitts was cited and fined based on findings of 4 counts of Negligence and 8 Violations of Record Keeping, which, according to CA Title 16, Section 2043, "involve a person, who, while engaged in the practice of veterinary medicine has caused death or serious harm to an animal patient." I believe these findings are serious and disturbing, and call into question Dr. Pitts' competency, professionalism, and ability to continue running a Veterinary practice. I believe it is important that consumers be made aware of the risks involved should they take their pet to this Hospital for care. My case was so severely mishandled that it resulted in the death of my beloved cat. My beautiful cat's cancer was undiagnosed (Pitts said her X-ray showed she was "eating cat litter"). The last week of her life, Pitts gave her Convenia, which is ONLY to be used for skin problems, and ultimately caused her death. To make matters worse, Dr. Pitts will not acknowledge any wrongdoing, based upon his refusal to respond to the Veterinary Board's request of him to address their findings (see attached). It is incumbent upon a business to which consumers entrust their pets for medical care to provide the highest level of professionalism and competency. My case is definitive proof that these standards were seriously not in keeping with the guidelines set forth by the State. For the sake of your beloved pets, I urge you not to take them to a hospital that should be shut down (check Yelp's "not commended" reviews for more horror stories). Read Less

The doctors are so caring and connected to the patients and their owners. Dr. Fullington took the time and effort to figure out what was wrong with my dog after a Dr. from an emergency facility had just seen her and suggested she be put to sleep because she is older and they believed her wound was a sign of end stage cancer. I arrived and checked my cat in at the front desk with the nice lady and took a seat. I anticipated a long wait because when I called before I came in to be sure they would have time to see my cat I was told to expect to wait an hour. This is absolutely fine. I had no appointment and wanted to walk-in at 5pm, a one hour or even 2 hour wait is not an issue. What I do have a problem with (and every animal owner should) is a policy they have during the check in process where they take your pet from you to an area in the back of the clinic and you, the owner, is not allowed to accompany your pet. Twice I have taken my cat to this place, so I can say without doubt this is not a random incident, but a policy they adhere to without wavering. The first time I patronized this business I allowed them to take Percy, I was not at all happy about it and I argued with the woman at some length but they would not allow me to come back with him. I would have left, but it was a Sunday and they were the only clinic that was open and my cat was having issues breathing, so not something I could put off until the next day. When they came to take Percy to the back this time I again explained that I would be accompanying him and they again told me I could not. I insisted and the woman asked me to wait while she spoke to someone else, one of the veterinarians I'm assuming. She returned and told me that I could either let her take him to the back without me or I could continue to wait in the waiting room and if they have time to see me before they close at 7pm (this was at 6:15pm) then fine, but if not then I will just have to come back tomorrow. This made absolutely no sense and the woman saying this to me was a perfectly intelligent human being so it was clear to me what she was saying. I could choose to let her take my cat to the back without me or they would not treat him. Fortunately, the issue I was there to have diagnosed was not a life threatening one this time, so I said "thank you" turned my back and left. My pets are not just small animals that live in my home. They are members of my family and I am responsible for their well-being in the same way that a parent is responsible for their child's well-being. I challenge any pediatrician to tell a parent that they are going to take their kid in back and they will meet back up with them in an examination room in 15 minutes. I did ask what the reason is for this policy and I was told it is a liability issue which sounds like a default response someone who has no good reason or doesn't want you to know the reason would give. If they are concerned about liability, I would like to know what hazards are lurking in the back of this place that could injure a person and why they pose no threat to the animals they treat. The whole experience was creepy. What are they doing when they take your pet and forbid you to be present? What are they hiding? Read Less

Ive been to this hospital a couple of times because my boyfriend lived in the area and he needed to get treatment for his elderly cat. The parking lot was small and it took a bit of effort to maneuver in and out of it, but I did it just fine. The people at the desk looked busy, but they were really nice and I dont remember having to wait long in the waiting area, but we did have an appointment. There was also a pretty fish tank in the waiting room area, which I thought was really cool! An Indian woman with long dark hair and glasses treated his cat, (Dr. Sima I think?). She was really patient and listened while my boyfriend expressed concern for his cats health. She diagnosed the cat with kidney disease and did fluid therapy on her. My boyfriend was also able to get refills of the fluid just by calling in, so that was great! Overall, our experience here was really good! The place looked clean and the staff and doctor were fast, friendly, and efficient! Read Less

I brought in my sweet adult male cat, Gilbert. Gilbert is a rescue, so I don't have tons of his info but they were very helpful and kind to us. The vet and the tech were both was clearly cat lovers and were great with Gilby. The vet did a through check up and didn't immediately suggest (or push) expensive meds and gave me a number of options to help Gilby with his stomach issues. I'm new to the neighborhood and recommend this vet clinic. The best part was how kind both the staff and other patients were to us. Two thumbs up!! Read Less

Dr. Pitts is the best reptile vet. When I brought in my 2 California box turtles and 2 Russian tortoises on Sunday for their beak and nail clippings, he had their folders ready, reviewed their health records with me and had the animals ready in record time. He offered good tips for maintaining my pets' health, too. I've been taking my reptiles there since the 1990s. Read Less

We've taken our puppy here for everything in the past 7 months and we are extremely grateful for all their assistance. I do have an issue with certain business aspects, such as sneaking in $81 charges in final bill after being walked through each charge of the previous billing statement. Not the best way to handle things in my opinion. I strongly advise looking out for this. Read Less

My wife just took our 7 year old miniature schnauzer, Chloe, to get treated for itchiness & inflammation which was caused by flea infestation. She met with one of the veterinarians on duty, Dr. Mike McCleanahan, who was extremely friendly and explained everything about her condition in detail while answering all of my wife's questions. He prescribed Chloe a couple of medications and we left the office feeling much better about the situation. Not to mention, the price was very reasonable. I highly recommend the Studio City Animal Hospital if your have a pet that is need of medical care.

Read Less
