I took my 10 year old bulldog there because she was having seizures. The doctor was amazing and explained everything to me.. from the possible causes to courses of treatment, to home care. She is intelligent, caring, and patient. My favorite vet tech there is Kimberly. She is fantastic. She genuinely cares about her patients and follows up to see how my pet is doing. Amazing! We've been taking our 5 animals here for about 3 years, and I've NEVER been unhappy! We've been to so many vets that haven't been great, found this place and we'll never go anywhere else! We have two Belgian malinios, one of which is aggressive. They have been fabulous dealing with him with love, even though he's a challenge. Any time I call, they are super helpful, and if they don't have the answer right away, they find it and call right back. I've been able to email them pictures to see if we have a problem with something, and they respond right away, without charging us. The vet is super helpful, and great to work with. The front desk, Natalie in particular, recognizes us by name when we call, which is awesome. They randomly call us to check up on how our dogs are doing, which I've never had a vet do before. I STRONGLY  recommend them. Their love of animals is obvious, and they love ours like we love them. Go here!! Read Less

Very disappointed,We run a rescue foundation and have spent thousands of dollars at their location in northridge, and they have been of great support to our mission; but apparently this office in sunland is just another money driven business that only want easy cases so they can charge you hundreds of dollars for a 15 minute visit.About a month ago I brought a sweet lab mix who suffers of severe separation anxiety due to getting lost and then abused by the people that found him before us.the vet Leila Afshar prescribed him prozac and trazadone, we got the meds and did everything as she said. Caring for him is hard because he can't be left alone or he freak out and gets very destructive, breaks crates, doors, u name it. Still we waited a month hoping the medication would kick in at any moment.Today I called the vet begging for help, telling the secretary the medication hasn't improved his behavior, i've been reading online about alternative treatments so I was motivated to try something different but this vet simply had her secretary tell me that was all she could do and left me out cold.Many innocent but traumatized animals end up in shelters and euthanized because of vets like her that don't want to go the extra mile to help an animal in need. Very Sad.She didn't even try to research, or at least recommend another professional. simply  dismissed us and went on her merry way. Read Less

I had a stray cat that lived around my home for over 8 years.  He would come and go as he pleased.  Sometimes gone for a week or two at a time.  One rainy night in January he appeared at my door with a very ugly infection in his left eye.  He was bleeding and stinky.  It was late at night and so I fed him and kept him indoors until morning and called the nearest vet I could find.  Less than 2 miles away was Pet Medical Center.  I had never even picked this cat up before, but I put on some gloves and wrapped him in a towel (he was too sick to fight much) and put him into a cat carrier.  Dr. Afshar and her staff were patient and kind and let me cry all I wanted.  I was so worried for this cat.  The care they took in diagnosing -- running a few key tests to see if he could withstand surgery.  He could, and they removed the eye.  They kept him in the hospital for quite a while, but allowed me to come and visit with him every day.  That gave me the opportunity to see behind the scenes.  They have a very clean clinic, the recuperating cages are large and clean and filled with blankets.  I watched cats and dogs come and go....all treated like personal pets rather than patients.  As for "my" cat, it turned out in the long run he had cancer, and we could not save him.  But, they released him to my care for a bit of hospice and actually came to my home to administer the necessary shots.  He went to sleep on a pile of blankets looking out at the yard that had been his for such a long time.Their expertise and kindness meant the world to me.  I've never experienced such a deep caring for pet and "owner".  If you're looking for a vet, please give them a try.  You'll be very, very pleased. Nothing worse than trying to find a good Vet when your little one is in need. Our little mini pin Hallie began vomiting 2 nights ago and the way she was vomiting made me think she had an intestinal obstruction but being that I deal with people not pets wasnt sure. Took her in yesterday as she continued vomiting and seemed to be in pain even though I could not elicit any pain. I got in relatively quick and Hallie was treated by Dr. Afshar who is a gem. Kind compassionate logical and straightforward in her approach who didnt think she had an obstrcution but could not rule it out either without xray and at that time she did not feel it necessary to radiate Hallie, which I happened to agree with. She explained a more conservative approach which I was in agreement with and she gave strict instructions that if Hallie did not improve in 24 hours to bring her back. Well she did not improve I brought her back and xray was done confirming my initial thought and immediate surgery was recommended. Surgery went without a problem. I must say that the entire staff from the time I walked in until I left could not have been more professional caring and compassionate. One reason why I took a chance on this clinic was a review from a client that has been coming here for 10+ years and he drives from West LA to do so. If anyone has that much faith to fight the 405 fwy traffic this place had to be given a chance. I now see why he does so. Read Less

I've been going to PMC for 10 years (for cats and dogs both), and am very pleased with their service. They've always been caring, thorough, and mindful of the fact that I have a budget -- by that I mean they have never scheduled unnecessary tests simply to get a bigger fee.I've had older pets for most of the time I've been going here and they are great with seniors. I think l have found a new vet clinic for my pups. I was a walk in and they took me in right away. My older dog had picked up a foxtail in his paw and it festered. The staff took him in, shaved his feet and managed to get the area cleared. They were patient and professional with him and with me. Overall, the clinic has positive energy and the staff genuinely care about the animals they treat and the owners they meet. I would highly recommend this clinic to anyone looking for a safe and caring place to take their pets. Read Less

I can't say enough about Pet Medical other than "I Love Them!" I have taken my pets here for almost four years.  They have always been professional and courteous going above-and-beyond. They not only take wonderful care of my four-legged kids but they have helped me tremendously during the rough times.I recently lost my 15 year old pug and during the period that led up to her passing, Natalie one of the vet techs was so kind and comforting, she helped with the final details that I couldn't bring myself to do. Jaime, is also a great vet tech...poor guy almost always gets stuck with cleaning my other pugs anal glands (sorry, better you than me). Dr. Buffum, Dr. Thomas, Dr. Feldman, Dr Kishimoto, thank you for everything!  If I left any names out, it's not that I don't appreciate you, I'm just awful with names...so my sincerest apologies. We have a commitment to adopt rescue dogs. They require both emotional and physical ""repair."" At times I've felt like Pet Medical Center was my home away from home. I'm grateful that the caring and courteous staff make me feel like I truly have a partner in helping to make our dogs lives as good as they can be. Everyone is very supportive and I never feel like I'm being dismissed or rushed out so they can churn more appts. I have been going to Sunland Pet Medical Center for almost 12 years now. I had my previous dog and my current dog go here because of the service. I'm surprised to see negative remarks about the receptionists, because they have been always friendly, especially Kat, Jaime, etc. There might be a couple others who may not be AS friendly, but they've all been polite nevertheless. Ok...onto the actual doctors. I live in Westchester, near LAX, but I go all the way to Sunland (almost 30+ miles away) because I've always been happy with the process. The doctors have always answered my questions and explained to me in full what the next step may be. I'm sure people have different experiences, but mine, for over the past decade, have been positive. I am comfortable there, and there are different doctors to give you an alternate route to just traditional medicine. I have a Westie that has a skin allergy, and instead of just giving him drugs for the rest of his life, Dr. Lavely offered some advice on alternative medicine, such as acupuncture and herbal remedies. It's good to know that there are multiple options for a symptom. Read Less

I agree with you that the receptionist, Kat, isn't very friendly. She has warmed up a little the past few times I have been there. As far as the cost, it seems to me it's the same as anywhere else.
