Dr. Michelle and the team are kind and compassionate providers. Brady loves to see them and becomes excited when we pull into the driveway even when not feeling his best. The canine flu hit poor Brady hard; initially, we went to an emergency hospital outside of the clinic business hours. He was initially diagnosed with kennel cough when we did not see improvement, I called Arroyo, and they scheduled us in for an appointment that day. Dr. Michelle diagnosed Brady condition quickly and prescribed antibiotics. Within 24 hours we saw a vast improvement. The follow-up and communication since have been phenomenal. Both Dr. Michelle and staff have called to check in every couple of days. We appreciate the personal and human connection we have with Arroyo Clinic. I really liked this vet when we first brought our dogs here. Over time, however, the vets have changed and they seem to be more interested in how many tests they can order to beef up the bills then they are in the well being of the animals. After spending close to $1000 for dental cleaning on one dog, and bringing the other back for two extra blood tests (one because they lost the blood work) I have gone sour on this vet. The last straw was this morning (August 11)when I tried to get a rabies vaccination for one of the dogs. He was in for his physical in Feb yet they couldn't schedule him in to get a shot until Sept 25? What? The vet doesn't even do this, the techs give the shots. I guess they can't make enough MONEY on just the vaccination so they also need another exam. The original vet retired a while ago and the place just isn't the same. Read Less

We've used Arroyo as our primary vet since we got our first puppy 7 years ago (we now have 3!) and I can't say enough good things about everyone at Arroyo.  A couple of years ago I took a long term work assignment in the Midwest that forced us to use some other vets and the difference was stark. At Arroyo Dr. Michelle and her team really care about and love all the pets that come in.  A few months ago, our youngest puppy started acting strangely, so at 4:45pm, we brought him over to the clinic.  By that point, the poor little guy was in pretty serious distress.  Not only did Dr. Michelle make the quick and correct diagnosis that he had Addison's and was in crisis, she and the team stayed until 7:30pm to get him stable enough to go over to the 24 hour emergency pet hospital for additional overnight treatment.  And she followed up with us the next day to make sure he was in fact doing better once he got home, to make sure we understood the short term treatment plan, etc.Even now, months later, each month when we go in for the steroid shot Addison's requires (I freely admit that I'd rather have a tech give him the shot than me!), it's like a big event where the entire team (if they can spare a second) comes by the exam room and gives a quick rub and a treat for the guy, and Dr. Michelle almost always does a quick check to make sure he looks good (even though we are really there just to see a tech.If I could give them 7 stars I would! Affordable clinic with great service and care, and amazing staff! Our four Shih-Tzus all come to Arroyo for their various needs, and we have been, for the most part, satisfied with Arroyo.  When asked if we could switch between veterinarians (one of the dogs did not work well with one of the doctors), they were happy to accommodate us without fuss. They're quick to schedule in appointments on short notice. One of our dogs is a little temperamental and feisty, but somehow manages to behave a little more (and dare I say, be docile) in the calming presence of John the technician.  John and everyone at Arroyo acknowledge and respect the limits and stress their patients (and the owners) go through, which is a testament to their dedication to quality of care.  Arroyo also does follow up calls to check in on patients, and accepts initial medical inquiries by email. Overall, they do their best to make your trip to vet as comfortable for you and your pet as much as possible. They also provide basic cleaning/grooming services for your pet, but every other Tuesday.  You can also schedule quick appointments for ear cleaning with the technicians. I first found out about Arroyo Animal Clinic when in 2009 I adopted a black and tan dachshund, Holly, from the son of a lady I volunteered with after the lady passed away.  She had taken Holly to this vet, and her son took his dogs here, and he said they were excellent, and it is true!  All of the staff love and care about the animals, and it is clearly evident in the way they treat them during the visit.  The doctors always explain everything and give me options, so I can make the best care decisions.  I have recommended Arroyo to others, and those people had good experiences as well.I also took another dog, Tuffy, here for his care.  Tuffy gets really stressed out when anyone touches his nails, so nail trims were impossible.  The staff at Arroyo knew how to handle Tuffy, and held him in a different way, and in a gentle way, and Tuffy went through the nail trimming process without any issues. They even give senior discounts so that older people can save a little money when caring for their companion animals! This place continues to impress--several years after my initial yelp review. They're so sympathetic and responsive. They recently prescribed medication for my dog over the phone and mailed it to me. They originally didn't want to prescribe it unless the other potential solutions didn't pan out, but after we realized a prescription was necessary, I was please they didn't make me revisit the office and pay for another appointment. This place really is tops. A++ Original Review in May 2009: I am a relatively new pet owner. However, my dog Wilma has already visited 4 different vets and yet I hadn't met one I truly liked until today. She was recently diagnosed and treated for a UTI at a pet hospital in San Francisco where I was saddled with a $400 bill. Further, I was "urged" to get an ultrasound for Wilma because it was highly likely that she could have complications from a poorly done spay procedure. Thankfully, I gave her the antibiotics and brought her to Arroyo Animal Clinic for a follow up. Dr. Michelle was very kind, thorough and clearly not out to oversell procedures (as I have encountered during each of my prior 3 interactions at different vets). From the outside, the facility appears a bit dated--the inside is very homey and clean. It's not a recently built facility, but perfectly functional for an animal clinic. I called late on a Monday and had no trouble getting an appointment same or next day. When I walked in, the staff were expecting us. Wilma was seen immediately and I felt that I could ask as many questions as needed and spend as long as I wanted. Dr. Michelle explained that she thought an ultrasound was overkill and that my dog's symptoms would be much more severe if it truly was a botched spay. Regardless, she pointed out what steps I should take to monitor the situation and only return if ultimately warranted. Total cost of the visit was $52. Compared to all my prior vet experiences, I was happy to take out my credit card and pay. Further, Dr. Michelle spent a bunch of time with me reviewing pet insurance options. She didn't make an explicit recommendation but pointed out where I should do more research to find the plan that was right for me and my dog. In summary, it was an A++ experience. I will only be taking my dog here from now on! Read Less

Although we were there for the kitty, all of the staff still came out to see my baby P and she was so happy! Thank you, to all the staff for always being so sweet and caring. Look forward to many many years!

It's been a few years since we have needed to go to the vet (animals not sick, so why put them through the stress???). Since January, we have been to Arroyo at least once a week for various issues/accidents etc.Everyone here is amazing, they really do care about your animals and go the extra mile. There are many vets closer to me but I would rather drive a little further to receive this level of care of my dogs. Read Less

Read Less

Dr. Paul Umeda, "Dr. Paul" to everyone who visits the Arroyo Animal Clinic, is the most open and caring animal doctor we've ever had the privilege of knowing. Our pets are like kids to us, and Dr. Paul understands that. His kindness and caring are unsurpassed in our experience. He has taken care of our cats for over 15 years, and was there to guide us through the heartbreaking loss of two of them. His passion for the animals is unfailing, and his kindness and wisdom is a balm to the people who need their questions answered. All of the staff are wonderful people who truly love and care for their four-legged charges. They do everything in their power to lessen the stress of getting shots, or having blood drawn.
