Serra Veterinary Hospital

Sunnyvale, California
General Info
Our patients receive the best care at Serra Veterinary Hospital, not just because of the skill and experience of Dr. Natt, but also because we are a veterinary hospital. We have the equipment to provide all of the treatments necessary for your pet, and at a fraction of the cost. We also place great emphasis on client education, so you will fully understand the needs of your pet and the rationale behind any treatment they receive.
In addition to our routine preventative care and other illnesses, Serra Veterinary Hospital is proud to provide orthopedics, cruciate repair including TPLO, TTA, fracture repair, endoscopy (rigid and flexible), laparoscopy, arthroscopy, digital radiographs, and dentistry. These specialties often require many other vets to recommend us for your pet’s orthopedic treatment and surgery. Ask about our boarding and day care services for your pet.

I’m so happy that I’ve found Serra Veterinary Hospital. My sweetheart dog Sherry was always healthy and I watch her carefully. However recently she was diagnosed with small mammary mass, and the mammary mass removal was estimated in $3000 in other hospital near San Carlos. What? I don’t have such money! I found Serra Veterinary Hospital using friend’s recommendation and met Dr Kate. She explained me everything about the mammary mass and made me calm down. We discussed all the health issues, required surgery and spay. At that point I’ve understood that they can take care of my dog. And the estimate in Serra Veterinary Hospital for the same procedure was $1700. It’s a lot of money savings $3000 -> $1700 with Serra Veterinary Hospital. The surgery went smoothly, no additional payments are added to estimate, I was provided with detailed explanations by Dr Kate and X-rays. And manager Pam even gave me a discount!! Everybody is so kind to pets and try to save money for pet owners! Dr Kate answers all the questions all the time, whenever I needed an advice after the surgery. It’s amazing! My lovely Sherry feels good, and I’m very happy about this right decision about Serra Veterinary Hospital. I become a permanent client for sure now, though I'm living far away it definitely worth it! Found this place on yelp and was inclined to take my pup in for what I felt would be her second TPLO surgery. They offered a free exam for orthopedic clients and as soon as I walked in I felt very welcomed and comfortable. The process was straight forward for me because my pup had already been through this once before but I really liked how communicative and detailed they were about the surgery and the aftercare, not just what they would do but why they were doing it. I felt confident in my choice. Day of the surgery I felt on edge about a new injection that would help my pup recover faster, I left feeling unsure and within the hour Pam and Dr. Natt both called me to reassure me of the benefits of the injection and calm my nerves. I will be switching to them as my regular vet. Thank you Serra and your wonderful staff! Read Less

We had a phenomenal experience at Serra Veterinary Hospital. We had been searching for a specialist for our furbaby and we were referred by one of my husband's coworkers. Dr. Natt is THE man. Hands down, he is the BEST Orthopedic Veterinarian that you can find. We had a FREE (yes, I said FREE!!!) orthopedic consultation at Serra Vet. Other veterinary hospitals would charge us $150 and up JUST for a consultation. Which is ridiculous. Serra vet has the best price you will find for a TPLO surgery. I was given quotes by other veterinary hospitals  that specializes in orthopedics that range from $8,000 to $12,000 for just one leg! I paid roughly 40% less than that at Serra Vet. Even with paying less than other veterinary hospitals, I received excellent care throughout the entire process. My dog is definitely family and I felt comfortable leaving my furbaby in the hands of Dr.Natt and his staff. They had a special ability that made me feel at ease during a sensitive situation. They would calm and ease my fears by providing my husband and I with updates by phone. Even after recovery, they displayed such a high level of customer service by examining my dogs incision after he had multiple attempts of trying to remove the stitches. They offered support, and gave great advice and we received proper medication. Overall, I am beyond satisfied with the level of care that I have received. The entire staff is friendly, knowledgeable and most importantly compassionate. I am extremely confident in Dr.Natt's work; I know because of him, I will be able to run miles again with my furbaby Louie. Thank you so much Serra Vet!!! Read Less

I can here for my new kitten. She had jammed her arm in the door and was kind of limping around so I wanted to get her checked to make sure nothing was wrong with her. This place offers free Exam for new patients/ customers. So I figured this was the perfect time to use it, especially since I'm looking for a regular vet to be able to take my pets to. I made an appointment the same day. I came in an believe I checked in with a really nice lady at the front named Pam. I saw Dr. Natt. We we're seen right away and the Dr came in and spent most of the time with the kitten to check her out. He looked at her arm and sure enough it was nothing but she may be in some shoulder pain from bumping it. After he even examined her, he took a look at her sutures where she had previously been spayed 2 weeks prior and assured me it was healing properly. He told me everything he was doing while examining her. He even told me the options in pain meds for her. He was very knowledgeable on the meds and her options since she is still so small. Overall, it was a quick visit and I left feeling very comfortable with the exam and all of the staff and the Dr. I will be back for any future vet needs for my pets! Read Less

My cat got hit by a car a couple of days ago,  He is a new cat so I didn't have an established vet for him. I called several places including the vet I used to go to. Everyone was much more concerned about if they should charge an "emergency visit" fee or a their "regular" fee since I wanted to be seen the same day. Serra didn't care about fees. They cared about my cat.  I was able to get him in within a couple of hours. They did x-rays and I had a diagnosis (he broke both legs) and treatment plan within an hour or so. Dr. Natt showed me the x-rays, explained the procedure and recovery. Now after the surgery (on both legs) he is doing good and they are taking excellent care of him. I have no doubt he will be restored to his former fabulous feline self. If your cat or dog gets hits by a car or other serious injury take them here. If they are injured like my kitty, they can take care of everything right there and it is clear the entire staff cares deeply for your pet. Read Less

My sincerest thanks to everyone at Serra for saving my rescue pup.  After his first day or two, I expected the lethargy and exhaustion to wear off.  It did not and after a referral from a friend, Pam found an immediate spot with Dr Natt to examine my pup.  It turns out the little guy was pretty sick, and was diagnosed quickly and put on a regimen that turned him into a whole new dog within 24 hours.  I am SO grateful for their prompt action and for being so kind to me during the nail-biting time awaiting test results.  I've also had to board my new little guy due to business travel, and could not be more appreciative for the great care they took of him, as well as how kind everyone is; they are absolutely amazing with the animals.  What a relief to have such an awesome vet! PLEASE NOTE: They have a sign at the front desk offering a $30 credit for anyone who gives them a Yelp review. I wish I'd taken their total stars with a grain of salt...We brought our puppy in for his 2nd round of shots. The vet and vet tech were lovely and sweet, but didn't seem to give straight answers for anything I asked. He's my first dog, and all the literature on puppies recommends asking your vet things like, how much food should I feed him? The vet didn't have an answer, just shrugged and said what I'm feeding now should be fine... but I'd had him literally 2 days. Upon checking out, I realized I'd forgotten to ask the vet what puppy food she'd recommend. I asked the woman at the desk to grab the vet once more for me, she left for a moment and returned saying that there are a lot of good foods, but she feeds Blue Buffalo to her cats and they like it.- It didn't sound like she actually asked the vet.- I don't care if your cats "like" it, I'm sure my puppy would "like" cake and hot dogs for lunch.- There was a Blue Buffalo plaque on the wall.- When I asked for a few other brands I could look into, she just said Blue Buffalo again.MY BIGGEST ISSUE with this office:I called back, mentioning that I'd read that after the 2nd round of shots puppies are okay to socialize with other dogs up to date on their shots, and go on supervised walks outside of the house, but I asked how many days I should wait for the shots to fully protect him. The woman informed me I was wrong, that I needed to wait until his 3rd round of shots (another MONTH) to socialize or walk my puppy. I questioned this, saying I'd been strongly encouraged to socialize him ASAP. Her response? "I mean, he's an infant so you could take the chance but if it were my puppy I wouldn't risk it."Well. One month later our puppy goes in for his 3rd round of shots and a different vet is there. He tells me I should've been socializing my puppy this entire time, that waiting until the 3rd round of shots is OUTDATED INFORMATION. I discovered, too late, from the Humane Society and other organizations that my puppy's behavioral issues were largely due to the fact that he didn't have any socialization that crucial month of his life. They also never provided proper records of his 2 sets of vaccinations, and now every new vet/pet application/pet hotel has to physically call Serra vet to confirm he had his shots. While this office had many nice people, many of them weren't informed, people working in the office weren't on the same page about important information, and many of them seemed lacking in basic information. Their pricing seems fair, but there are several vets in the area that offer fair pricing.UPDATE: Since changing vets, we had to request copies of his records for the new vet as well as for our pet insurance. It took three different phone calls for them to send us all the proper paperwork (just 2 documents): They sent me document #1 twice and when I called explaining their mistake and that I still needed document #2 I was told to just disregard the repeat email with document #1...? Again I had to repeat that I still needed document #2. Read Less

When we brought our blue nose pitbull here for an ear infection, we asked the vet to also check one of his hind legs as we had noticed him limping just a few days prior.  The preliminary diagnosis was that he needed TPLO surgery on the limping hind leg.  The x-rays showed that our dog actually needed the surgery on both of his legs!  The plan was for the worst leg to have surgery first, followed by 8 weeks of rehab, then surgery on the other leg.  Our dog is currently doing rehab after the second leg surgery.  The entire process from diagnosis to surgery to follow up care has been exceptional.  Dr. Natt is very knowledgable and provided us with the appropriate resources for knowledge on taking care of our dog after the surgery.  The entire staff is also very kind and helpful, especially Pam.  She has always been on top of things.  Also, if you have pet insurance, Pam will fax the claim for you so there's one less item you have to worry about. A bit of background:Previously and for decades, I took my adopted, senior cats to a different facility that was very small, but when it expanded into a large and very commercialized organization, I felt it became impersonal so I began recently checking with neighbors, friends and online for a different veterinary hospital. A few years ago, I became an adoptive pet parent for two small, bonded dogs, Sugar and Spice, (aka Jennifer and Lisa from the show, Friends) from the Silicon Valley Humane Society in Milpitas. Since their teeth looked bad, I brought Sugar and Spice to Serra Veterinary Hospital for dental estimates. It was quite shocking to discover how much dental work could be required, particularly for Sugar, so I decided to get her treated first, then Spice.Although I sensed Pam was very busy the many times I called with questions, she took the time and effort to patiently and professionally provide answers.Yesterday, I took Sugar in for her dental appointment, I was very teary and emotional at the thought of extractions, but once again Pam and the staff helped to alleviate my fears about the process. I also discovered they can help with alternative and holistic treatments as well. While in the lobby at Serra and prior to Sugar being taken in for her treatment, I met a woman with a dachshund rescue who has been taking her dogs to Serra for many years. She brought one of her dogs in for a very serious and extensive surgery. This was reassuring to me since Sugar's condition was not nearly so severe. I just can't thank everyone at Serra enough for their care and helpfulness throughout this treatment. I also want to extend very special kudos to Dr. Kate for her painstaking work extracting 16 teeth from Sugar's little mouth. Who knew that dogs have 42 permanent teeth. I sure didn't.  Not only did everyone at Serra provide wonderful care and treatment for Sugar but, since I am retired and live within a fixed income, Pam took the time to help me reduce the costs where possible while still maintaining complete care. She also helped me set up a payment plan through Care Credit for me to cover the costs.  I remain extremely grateful for the care given to my little four-legged pal by everyone at Serra Veterinary Hospital in Sunnyvale. She is now recovering at home today. Her BFF will be going in for her dental work soon as well.  Serra Veterinary Hospital services are very fairly priced, and I highly recommend them, without hesitation, as THE PLACE FOR PETS! We have a Beagle entering her golden years. Like for so many, our dog is an integral part of our family. There can be no compromising her well-being. So when she was suffering from serious medical issues this past month we were desperately searching for a veterinarian who would provide her with suitable treatment. We live in Modesto and had her X-Rayed by a local doctor. The X-Ray revealed that she had a growth that required surgical removal of her spleen. Surgery is a serious matter. So we decided to seek out second opinions, and if the necessity for the surgery was confirmed, find the ideal veterinarian to perform it. Eventually we found all that at the Serra Veterinary Hospital in Sunnyvale. It took countless telephone calls and internet research to end up from Modesto to Sunnyvale. And we are so happy that we made that investment. At Serra Veterinary, Drs. Natt and Fedorava, as well as their top-notch support staff, provided matchless care for our Beagle from the intake, through her surgery, and her aftercare. And all at a reasonable price. My experience with the Serra began when they took the lead in dealing with our pet insurance to have the surgery approved before it started. This, as we all know, can be arduous, especially when working under tight time constraints. Without the assistance of Serra's staff experience in dealing with insurance providers, the pre-approval of the surgery simply would not have gotten done. When our Beagle arrived at their impressively sanitary hospital, they all made her feel so comfortable I had no doubt that she was in excellent hands. As they proceeded with her surgery, they kept me updated about her well-being. And after it was over they provided her with very comfortable overnight accommodations until I picked-up our dog in the morning. When I saw Poojah - our Beagle -- I was so very happily surprised to see how well she was doing. I was expected to be greeted by a dog struggling to recover from a surgery. However, our Beagle was peppy acting more like she had she been through a routine grooming rather than having had endured a serious medical procedure. For this I credit everyone at Serra. Her speedy recovery continues under the watchful eye of the Serra staff who are always available to answer my questions. We are eternally grateful for the commitment Serra demonstrated to our Beagle from the beginning to the end of the process. We have them to thank for having our Beagle back in our home healthy and happy. We cannot thank them more, and recommend them unconditionally to those who love their pets. Read Less

Buyer Beware! Go to this hospital only if you want to be insanely ripped off! Our cat was lethargic and not eating for a couple of days so we brought her in here for the first time. It was the only place I could get an appointment on short notice. While they are really nice, they smile in the front and then rip you off when you're not looking. They prey upon your love for your animal to bleed you dry of every cent you have. They took her temperature and found she had a fever. I mistakenly mentioned that we had VPI Insurance and their eyes lit up. All of the sudden her temperature was a sign that she could be dying at any moment. The tech ran off to complete an estimate to tallying $895 in essential tests, IV and overnight stay. This is the only way we could make sure our cat stayed alive according to them. We of course agreed. The next day they called and total us she was in total liver failure and would require another nights stay and a $600 ultrasound. That's right, $600 for one ultrasound of a 10lb cat. Fearing for her life, we agreed. They called back after the ultrasound... all of the sudden she wasn't in liver failure and never had been, but required another nights stay in the hospital, IV medication and take home medication for bladder stones. At this point we were about at $1300 and I figured one more nights stay couldn't be that much. They didn't give me an estimate for the extra nights stay. When she was discharged the next day, the total came out to $2100. Of which, our insurance paid out $660, probably due to the fact that all of the rest of the test and "treatment" was totally unnecessary. I later found out that my friend has a vet that wouldn't have charged us at all for the x-rays and ultrasound. Stay far away!! Read Less

Read Less

Read Less

We are the crazy owners of 3(?!) Dachshunds, two older and a newly adopted puppy. Our older dogs had severe teeth infections (side effect of being an amazing breed:), and I was nervous of the surgery, anesthesia, and then recovery. The fact that our trusted vet moved out of state didn't help. BUT, thanks to the wonderful, caring, and talented veterinarian Dr. Natt, and all the amazing staff at the Serra Veterinary Hospital, it's all over and both boys are healthy and happy again. I highly recommend this veterinarian clinic and doctor for anyone who is looking for the best care for their fur friends! 5 stars !!!! Read Less

Dr. Natt has taken care of all our dogs and the occasional hamster for almost 15 years. He stays up on current treatment options and is straightforward in discussions. Our border collie-queensland heeler lived to be 15-1/2 years old with help from Dr. Natt. Our other border collie- australian shepherd has a titanium knee that has kept him going for 9 years. When I rescued a Great Pyrnees from a bad situation Dr. Natt did his initial exam at no charge. The staff is great, too. Read Less
