The doctor and staff at Roxford Veterinary Clinic saved my dogs life. I can't thank each and every one of them enough. I was having a family get together and two of my nieces were playing with my dog. They accidentally let my dog eat a piece a of corn cob. After my dog was vomiting all night, I rushed her in as soon as I could to see Dr.Long. The very nice staff took me in immediately. X-rays showed an intestinal blockage and she needed emergency surgery. Thankfully she made a full recovery and is happy and healthy today. Read Less

Please excuse me if this review is all over the place. I have come here a few times with my mom's dog and our dogs. And have been meaning to write a review. Our visit yesterday was the icing on the cake. I will start off with what stresses me out most with places and that is the parking. This place is in a center with a Subway, a medical marijuana shop and a Mexican food place. Unless you make the first appointment of the day , parking is a nightmare. Now let's move on to the staff. There is this one receptionist/tech who always seems confused. Whenever you asked her a question she acts like you asked her to perform neurosurgery. I question if she even went to school. The only reason we switched from our current vet was because they charge less, but I guess you get what you pay for. Every time we have called to make an appointment or ask a question we are met with uncertainty and stammering responses. Don't get me wrong, they aren't rude, just incompetent. I called once to reschedule an appointment, not only did I receive a reminder call for the cancelled appointment, they never penciled in the rescheduled appointment. When I called in for what I considered an urgent matter they informed me there was nothing available for a week. They didn't seem to care at all. At that point I decided we weren't going back with OUR dogs. However my mom still wants to go there because she doesn't feel like starting over with a new vet. We went there recently with her dog and had an appointment. We waited an hour and a half before we were seen!!! They didn't tell us the doctor was running late until almost 45 minutes of waiting. They don't offer water or any type of refreshments for the owners or pets while waiting. I guess I was used to that from our previous vet. Like I said, you get what you pay for. The normal vet, Dr. Long, was on vacation so we saw a fill in. She asked us a million and one questions before she got to the issue at hand. We felt like we were being interrogated. While we were in there one of the "techs" came in and told the vet there was a cat that was ready for its blood to be drawn. When the vet told her to handle it she told her she didn't know how and that she didn't think any of the other techs did either. What the fuck?!? Isn't that taught in school? And why is it that the owner has to put the dog in the kennel when you leave them there for a procedure? Or you have to hold them when they want to examine them. We never do that at other vets. They take them to the back and take care of it. Anyways, I am getting off track. We then get sent to sit back in the waiting room to wait for the results of one of the tests. We waited for half an hour until we decide to have them call us. We had it. Oh and let's not forget that my mom had to ask them if she needed to fill anything out since her dog had also gotten microchipped while we were there. Why is she telling them how to do their job?!? And to top it off she was double charged for the vaccine her dog was given. There was also another customer who was crying because she had put a pet down and they were taking forever to get her rung up. She finally got frustrated and told the she couldn't believe they were taking so long and having her there sobbing at the desk. The girl didn't console her or anything. Some guy brought in a German Shepard that they found and it had a microchip. They scanned it but wouldn't call the owner so it could be returned to the owner. What the fuck kind of bullshit is that?!? The guy who found the dog had to call the agency that the microchip was registered to and then have them contact the owner so the guy who found the dog could take the dog to them. Lastly, a puppy had an accident and the owner informed one of the girls at the front. She just said "Ok". The pee was left there for at least ten minutes which to me is a safety hazard. Someone could've slipped in it. Finally I think the owner felt embarrassed so he found some paper towels and tried cleaning it. Finally the girl says, with major attitude, "I'll clean it".  Well excuse the fuck out of me Princess. Isn't that your job? At other vets that's what the vet techs do. Drop the attitude and do your job. And would it kill them to run some A/C in the place? It's always so damn hot in there! Also as much as I love cats, it isn't smart to have them walking around the office when you have dogs constantly coming in and out. It can cause a serious issue. The only good thing about this place are the prices. They definitely need to get more competent staff. Read Less

We have been coming here for over 25 years. In that time ownership has changed 3 times although Dr. Long has had  by far the longest tenure. She is caring and compassionate. Always  candid with her diagnoses and she presents the options clearly. Her pricing is very reasonable.  Almost any vet can spay and neuter and give shots. The true test is whether they can work up a case and come up with the correct diagnoses and course of treatment. In that regard I have grown confident in Dr. Long. The staff is always warm and friendly with us and our pets. Not sure where some of these other comments are coming from, although I've read so many Yelp! reviews that diss the waitstaffs at restaurants where we are treated swell that I guess it's individual chemistry.  I know that people can be highly stressed when they're dealing with critical situations for their loved ones, I've been there. We and our Fur Family endorse. Read Less

I have been coming here for the passed 12 yrs. The first time I came here (2013), I had just left a horrible veterinary clinic who had told me my dog only had a few hours to live. Just like any pet lover I was so devastated. When I walked in I was greeted generously, I explained what had just happened so they were able to squeeze me into other appointment. My dog got the care he needed and 4 years later I have him sitting next to me while typing this review. Great veterinary. The staff and Veterinarian really care for animals. Thank you! Read Less

Roxford is an amazing place to take your pets. Reading the other reviews here, it was disappointing to see negatives. Everyone has their preference for bedside manner, and for me, Dr. Long's is perfect. She always answers all my questions and addresses any concerns I may have, and tells it like it is. She has a matter-of-fact personality, but that's not a bad thing. Don't mistake that seeming lack of sweetness as a bad thing. It's just how it is, and doesn't have any effect on the care. As for the front desk, they definitely may seem a bit preoccupied at times, but it's a busy clinic and I've never had to wait long for their attention. Read Less

I took my kitty there for a dislocated hip. Dr. Long tried to pop it back in the socket, but told us there was about a 50% chance that it would work.  I actually had to go back twice to have the leg re-wrapped, and the treatment did not end up solving the problem. But we were aware that it might not work, so it wasn't Dr. Longs fault. She ended up referring us to a specialist for surgery. I was later told by a different vet that popping the joint back in the socket rarely works, so the original 50% chance of success was exaggerated and we wasted several hundred dollars. But regardless, I found the Doctor to be competent, but not very caring. She's very business like and I much prefer a warm and caring bedside manner for my fur babies. But ï do think she's a good vet and her staff are very caring and helpful. The clinic also offers low cost vaccinations once a week if you are on a budget. Overall I thought the clinic was average. Dr. Long has been caring for my family's pets for 12 years or so. No, she isn't going to be buddy-buddy with you and ask how your weekend was but I don't see that as a bad thing.  I figure she is more focused on the animals and is keeping professional boundaries...I completely trust her with my animals and that's what matters to me. I absolutely trust her to put my senior pets under anesthesia when surgery is necessary. I took my dog to a very expensive specialist in the city to get recommendations for treatment and ended up having Dr. Long do the treatment and I'm very happy with the results.  Her prices are very reasonable and I do not walk out of there feeling ripped off. As for the one-star review below that mentions that the doctor has been "forcing" him to neuter his dog, that is so ridiculous. Neutering your pet is part of responsible pet ownership and the doctor is only doing her job by making that recommendation. You do know that there is a rampant pet overpopulation problem don't you? Don't even get me started, sheesh. Thank you so much for all your help over the years, Dr. Long! My family and our pets appreciate you! Read Less

I wouldn't even give one star!!! The vet paralyzed my dog and was cold as ice about it and wouldn't even give me an explanation!!! My dog was limping in his hind leg; I took him in and the Vet said she would do x-rays and blood work and had a tech pick him up and carry him to the back. While waiting in the exam room I heard a dog crying and basically screaming (never thinking this was MY dog)! When the vet came back in; I asked her if that was my dog and responded yes - that he had gone to the bathroom and started screaming! She then said he had inflammation due to arthritis and said I should pay while my dog was being cleaned up. I was in shock - my dog had never cried, screamed, etc.; and from going to the bathroom? This didn't make sense to me! The tech carried my dog out - put him in my car and when I got home - my dog who only had a limp in his hind leg; couldn't use EITHER hind legs now! The vet did recommend I take him to the hospital but when I asked why; she wouldn't give me a reason. He died a week and one day later! In our opinion - she murdered him! I have called her numerous times to ask what really happened and for a refund and she refuses. She said she tapes the back room = however, the tape was taped over the day my dog was back there - VERY CONVENIENT! Read Less

Today was my second time bringing my pets to Roxford Animal Hospital.  Dr. Long is very warm, compassionate and honest. She was busy each time I visited.  Yet, she took plenty of time with first my 14 year old dog and today, my 10 year old cat. I brought my dog to her because of a large tumor. She looked at her closely and said she was hesitant to perform surgery and was concerned  because of her severe heart murmur. She referred me to a specialist. It was a second opinion and the first doctor didn't mention her heart murmur at all. I respect her honesty. Many vets would have cared more about the money and less about the outcome. When I brought in my cat she was equally caring and helped me to decide which were the most important tests to run and how to make my cat comfortable while we get to the root of his problem. She is able to do a lot of bloodwork right there in the clinic, which is really helpful. He is already doing better after his first visit. I will be bringing my cat in to see her again. Read Less

I was pleasantly surprised by my experience at this vet clinic! Dr. Long, the vet whose practice it is, is very knowledgeable and experienced yet very, very compassionate and down to earth. My pit bull baby is a year and a half and she started going to Dr. Long when we adopted her 8 months ago. She can be very weary around new people but Dr. Long put her at ease right away. She is very pit bull friendly and she has helped Alice manage her serious skin allergy issues that plagued her when she first came home to us. My little guy, Henry also loves Dr. Long! He's a 3 year old chihuahua/daschund/jack russell mix. She's very patient with him as well, even though he was very scared last time he went to get his nails trimmed! Dr. Long is very practical and she won't charge you and arm and a leg for treatment or recommend anything unnecessary just to make extra money. It's a very affordable vet clinic with a wonderful vet.
