I went to Dr. Deam during an emergency situation. He's an exceptionally veterinarian who provided me with truly unbelievable service by giving me detailed information. He explains everything in such detail, and has a patient and makes sure you're okay before walking out the door. He's a very caring gentleman whose warmth shows the second you meet him. I took my dog to a hiking trail in Malibu that I had never been to before on a Saturday. With the weather being 68 degrees I thought it would be a perfect outing. Unfortunately, the day I thought was perfect turned into a crisis. After hiking for a bit, I made a comment to the friend I was with about my dog limping. My friend didn't think my dog was limping but thought she was walking a bit off because of the unpaved terrain. Not long after my dog stopped walking. I thought she had something stuck in her paw that was bothering her so I went to check. When I picked up her back paw I noticed one of her paw pads was a bit raw. I couldn't believe it! This dog had been hiking before, and the weather was actually pretty cool, so why was this happening? I picked up another paw to notice another 1-2 pads were raw, and then another paw, and another raw paw pad, then her last paw and even another raw paw pad. Needless to say, all 4 of her little paws pads had raw pads. My friend carried my dog for 45-minutes out of the moderate hiking trail while I was trying to find a local vet that was open. I was panicked and so upset by the situation. I was calling so many vets and not finding anyone available, it seemed impossible to find a vet opened in the Malibu area. I finally reached someone in Thousand Oaks who said there was a vet there, and to bring my dog in. When I arrived to the location, I was a bit upset because it wasn't a vet's office. It was actually a pet store that had a sign which read "emergency vet." I was a bit confused but so desperate that I hoped they could help. I quickly rushed in while carrying my dog and was directed to Dr. Deam. Dr. Deam was at the pet store giving vaccinations, and willing to see my dog. He explained that he's seen many dogs with the same issue, and that it's common when it's hot out, and can also happen when there's rocky terrain. I was entirely aware of the hot situation but not aware that rocky terrain can also cause that type of injury. Well, the hike I was on had a bunch of small gravel-type size rocks. Given that my dog is a pitbull only added to it because pitbulls have sensitive skin. Dr. Deam was so patient, kind and helpful. Thankfully, my dog didn't need an antibiotic but definitely other medical care. He suggested I bring my dog to his office which wasn't far away for a follow-up on Monday. When I told him I lived clear across LA in Pasadena, he gave me detailed instructions on what I needed to do to help with my dog's recovery. He suggested Neosporin applied to her paws, and then wrap them up in bandages twice a day for approximately 5 days. He gave me a list of signs to look for to prevent infection. He made sure before I walked away from him that I had all the tools and confidence needed to treat my dog under my care. Dr. Deam offered his valuable time, services, and extensive knowledge then didn't even take a penny from me. Dr. Deam is one of those individuals who are passionate about their career. His focus was not on dollar bills but rather healing my dog. Who does that? It's so rare that you come across people like Dr. Deam these days. Not sure I ever have or ever will. If I lived closer, Dr. Deam would be my veterinarian. If anyone out in that area ever asks for a referral, I will refer him. If I'm ever out that way again and need a vet's care, I won't hesitate.
