From the moment my dog Mitch (a 10yr old black lab/german shepherd mix) and I pulled into the parking lot at VSEC, the entire staff was incredibly accommodating.  Mitch is slightly dog aggressive and requires extra care with transporting him into the emergency room where other dogs are present.  They were able to provide a safe pathway for us to enter and get us into a room where Mitch was comfortable.Mitch was suffering from bilateral laryngeal paralysis and needed surgery to help him breath.  Dr. Norris' knowledge on this very specific type of surgery was overwhelming and she made me feel incredibly confident that she knew exactly what my boy needed.  Mitch was in surgery under Dr. Norris' direct care for nearly four hours and held overnight for monitoring.  Dr. Tangeman kept me informed of Mitch's status and notified me as soon as he was ready for release. He was in and out in under 24 hours.Mitch is currently in recovery and improves with each passing day.  I found everyone at VSEC to be knowledgeable, warm, welcoming, communicative and accommodating.  I would highly suggest this facility to any pet owner in need of special care.Thank you VSEC! Awesome, Friendly and clean facility. Hunter dog was playing ball in the park and came up lame on his left side. We did the usual check for stuff in his paw, twisted or dislocated ankle, knee or hip and nothing. Looked between toes as it was obvious it was his main concern. OK so not a great emergency to you but to me....Anyway, this was on Easter Sunday morning. They took him for exam and came back and displayed a stinger to me saying it was a just bee sting. What a great relief. Thank You very much. Read Less

Great experience. Despite being there for unpleasant reasons and being stressed, the staff was friendly, waiting area was nice, care was professional and I was given the information I needed to make good choices for care for my Boxer. Overall a very pro experience. They even found some issues with my Boxer in the normal check that my regular vet (I live out of town) had not identified. I would recommend. Read Less

Brought my puppy in as a precaution when she had severe vomiting, diarrhea, and loss of appetite. I feared it was parvo but the test came back negative. Dr. Brown and the staff on hand were pretty helpful and informative and a pleasure to deal with. They recommended an overnight stay with IV fluids so she wouldn't be dehydrated. I agreed this was the best solution but declined an x-ray they wanted to do. It is pretty pricey but what do you expect? My total bill was around $1000 for overnight stay on fluids and a variety of tests. My comments on the wait times: if my dog came in with a more life-threatening illness, I'd want priority over the other dog with a scratch. While I was here, another dog came in with very serious injury and ended up needing to be put to sleep. The owners were crying and I didn't think it would be very respectful to demand to get out quickly. They only had 4-5 people on staff in the middle of the night so I didn't expect lightning quick service. It took about 1.5 hours to get her examined and all the paperwork taken care of for the overnight stay. I cannot comment on other times of the day. Read Less

My PREGNANT wife brought our Husky here because of a small skin rash the night before we were going on vacation. It took over 4 hours to leave. She was the 2nd person in and was the last person to get help (other pets who came in were "more critical"). Absolutely ridiculous that it takes this long to get a simple skin scrape and some medicine. Making my pregnant wife wait this long is 100% unacceptable. Would not suggest coming here at all. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE! This Halloween my poor beagles were attacked by a pitbull. I brought them here even though my previous experience was not a positive one a year before, But I thought it was the only 24 hour emergency vet in my area. They take advantage of the fact that you obviously care a great deal about your pet or you wouldn't have brought them in and the emotional state you are in because your pet is sick or hurt. They use this to give you outrageous estimates and add in expensive and unnecessary procedures to gouge the bill. After the exam the vet informed me that my 12-year-old beagle would only require stitches but my 5 month old baby beagle would need surgery and that he wanted to do an x-ray on her. I asked why an x-ray and he told me so he could see how deep the wound was and if it had punctured her trachea. I work in the medical field and I know if her trachea was punctured she would not be breathing normally and would be gurgling blood. Then the vet tech comes in to present the estimates. The older one could be fixed with 2 stiches and the estimate was $1,138 - $1,386. They wanted to charge me for all kinds of tests, sedation plus anesthesia and gas (I don't think all 3 are necessary) and 3-5 hours of hospitalization required and more. I asked them why it would require 3-5 hours to put in stiches and the tech explained it depends on how long the doctor takes to get to it. Why should I have to pay for that when he can decide to take 5 hours or 10 for that matter? I said I'm not paying that and she tells me she will see if they can take off some of the charges and items that maybe weren't necessary. She then comes back with an estimate for $381 but explained they would not put any stiches in but this would only include sedation (if the dog wasn't still enough with just that they would need to use gas and of course that was $200 more), shaving the fur around the wound and flushing it out plus antibiotics and pain killers. If this was an option to begin with I don't see why it was not offered to me to begin with? Again showing me that they were trying to take advantage of my love for my dogs. So now the puppy would require surgery. Her estimate was $1,000- $1,400. The x-ray being $276 of that bill but they explained she was cheaper because they didn't need to run a blood test but that she may need a drain and that was more $. I told her I don't have the kind of money they want for these procedures and after discussing it with my mom and boyfriend we decided we would wait until morning to use our family vet who we trust. The tech tells me they are a lot more expensive because they are emergency care and that if I didn't want to pay it was better to do that. So I at least paid for the medications and the exams and that was $281.00 alone. The next day I took my dogs to my vet and guess what? The older beagle did not require any stiches (they didn't even present this as an option) and she only cost me $219. She only needed a sedative, clean and flush the wound and some anti-inflammatory pills and I was told the tramadol I had purchased for her the night before was not necessary (a waste of $39). The baby beagle did require the same surgery as was described to me the night before including drain. The total cost from my vet with the exact same procedure minus the x-ray (which was not necessary) was $504. Big, huge difference! And I am certain they got better care. I do not recommend you bring your pet here and found out after that there is another facility in the area for 24 hour emergencies. I would never take my dogs here again. The lack of compassion and the way they take advantage of people makes me wonder how they sleep at night.Read Less
