In the effort to dissuade my entire family from continuing to refer to the family dog as "lil lumpy", I took Maya, our Jack Russel Terrier, to the Sierra Pet Clinic. Poor thing'd developed some sort of raised nodule under her eye after Halloween, and it wasn't going away. She wasn't exhibiting any signs of pain, or that the growth was bothering her at all. But, curse or praise the maternal instinct in me, I took her to have it looked at anyway. It wasn't three seconds after entering the office when my already high-strung dog (if you know anything about JRTs, you'll understand) began quivering violently in fright. "Great, just great," I though, "canine White Coat Syndrome." And so, desperately trying to calm the zipped-out nerves of my frantic, shaking dog, I took a seat in the waiting room. Which was thankfully empty. Maya's also not very social. Maya's a handful. Maya could use a puppy prescription for Xanax. The waiting room was pleasant and well-lit. The receptionist was cordial, comforting, and talkative. The building itself is a little out of the way, and a tad on the ancient side, but typical of Truckee. Overall, it felt welcoming. I waited a few minutes past my appointment time but, for an afternoon slot, it wasn't out of the ordinary nor particularly irritating. It gave me a chance to try to chill out the living wind-up toy in my arms. The Vet Assistant, a cute young lady with a very mild temperament and calm demeanor, took us to an exam room and gave Maya a quick look-over. She handled her duties with a comforting confidence I'm pretty sure that my dog even noticed. She seemed to relax a bit in her arms. The Vet herself came in shortly after and was able to diagnose the problem after only a few minutes.Long story short: Doggy dental surgery. JRT's, as smart as they are, love to chase rocks. Pretty sure Maya decided to try to actually chew one...and broke a tooth. *sigh*Just glad this clinic is right around the corner. Seriously. Thank Dog. Read Less
