Such a disappointing experience. I've always had really good luck with veterinarians. So much so that when I'd hear someone say they'd been to a vet who tried to oversell them on unnecessary procedures, I could not relate to that at all. Now that I've been to this Banfield, I can.I brought my dog to this Banfield because she was having diarrhea after getting into my other dog's food and eating A LOT of it. I already knew I needed to put her on a chicken and rice diet for a few days and give her stomach a chance to calm down, but I brought her in to see if there were any medications that would help speed up the healing process. The female vet (can't remember her name but she had a thick accent) was rude and short with me for no reason and told me my dog needed blood work that would cost around $180. She didn't even mention doing a chicken and rice diet, which is common knowledge for any pet owner who's had a dog with diarrhea. I explained that my dog had blood work fairly recently and, even though I'm an extremely cautious pet owner, the labs seemed unnecessary. She was very rude to me and I felt like she was trying to pressure me into the blood work by making me feel like a bad pet owner for questioning her. I told her I was going to call the vet I went to before I moved for a second opinion (this was my first time here) and she literally said something like "okay fine you do that" and stormed out of the room. It was very dramatic and rude.My prior vet said chicken and rice without medicine would be just fine and my dog got better really fast. Read Less

Well, I have had good experiences so far with this location.Except, I wish they have informed me on my first visit I should not have given my puppy any showers/bath until the third shot. I was informed by Banfield location in West LA on my second visit to any Banfield locations on no shower until the third shot rule, and then I called this location and confirmed. I was late for my appointment for 17 minutes. They would not take me. I totally understand, since the next appointment is there already. That means they value their customers' time. Not like some other doctors who will still take the late ppl and then the next person has to wait longer! They offered drop-in service, which I can drop off my puppy at 7:15 am next morning. They will check on her when the doctor is available. After that, they will call me to pick her up. Read Less

I can say with certainty that I would never recommend this place to anyone. I have been a member of Banfield Pet Hospital for over 11 years and I feel that the quality of care has greatly declined. Anytime I go there now, the "doctors" only want to give my dog pills or run more expensive tests. I decided to take my pet to another vet hospital (Villa Animal Hospital in Orange) and have quickly found that my dog has been deprived of the proper care that he needs. Read Less

My dog, okay my best pal, had surgery at another vet and since it was the holiday weekend that vet was closed. My poor angel was a champ for the surgery but afterward the area where his cath was placed was driving him nuts to the point he licked it so much it was now infected and looked pretty bad. I was told if he didn't stop licking the area it could get very serious. I happened to go into PetSmart to get a Flexi retractable leash that my 84 year old mom sent me for so she could walk MY dog that she said she wouldn't get attached to 3 months ago and now she acts like he is HER baby, but I digress, back to why I am writing this. I had my dog with me and I saw a gal who was in scrubs heading back to Banfield Pet Hospital so I stopped her and asked if she worked in the hospital portion, which of course she did. I showed her my buddy's cath site that clearly was red & infected. Without hesitation, Justice, asked if she could take him in back. Now what I failed to mention was this was Sunday night. Next thing I know Justice AND Dr. Sam come out from the back and explained what was going on with Gordie after Dr Sam had had a better look at the area. Again, the surgery was not done there and they were closed at the time of all this going on (PetSmart portion was open). Bottom line my pal had to get the "cone of shame" to stop licking the area so it would heal. Dr. Sam and Justice helped pick out the correct size as well as explained the soft, more comfortable type were too easy for him to get to the area so he really needed the worse one of all, plastic. I didn't want the worse case scenario to happen (lets not even discuss that) so on went the cone of shame plus Dr. Sam added some topical antibiotics. I cant stress this enough, this man did not do the surgery on my dog as well as it is after hours on a Sunday night. I must be doing the right things in life to have been blessed to have Justice and Dr. Sam take their time to help me and my dog so that he can heal properly from all his surgery. Thank you Dr. Sam and Justice for being such good humans to take your own time to help this sweet, innocent animal. The world needs more people like you. Read Less

Never bring your pet here!We made an appointment for semi annual routine check 2 wks before. Dropped off cat and ask to call us when they finished (normally at 11am). Receptionist told us it will take all day and we can pick up him about 5pm, coz besides collection of analysis doctor needs to see him BUT she has 4 surgeries in a row thats why my cat should  stay for 6 hours extra in ferrous cage. Folks, if you overbooked and have important surgeries, we can come other day, we had no rush at all! Anyway, we came at noon (4 hours later) to pick him up and made another appointment when doctor will be available. At first they refused to bring him back coz "we not done with procedures", some women with badge and NOT in uniform told us. She has no idea what's going on. Then my cats nurse Chris came out and told us impolitely "your cat attacking me, go inside and pick him up!". I went inside - it was surgery room! With dog on the table! (Why do you allow people from the street came into surgery room during the surgery?!)  Some people walking around, chating, some of them did not wear uniform. That room were not clean enough, even from the first sight! I found my baby in cage, he was in his own urine! (for how long time?) He was extremely frightened. Doctor told me that half of check not finished but i can take him home (if i can). Return in 2 hours for my paperwork - it wasn't finished. Promised me to call but nobody call me back. its not his first time there, we've been with Banfield for 2 yrs, but I never come back. Wonderful staff.  Dr Franca is amazing.  He is so kind and compassionate.  He takes the time to speak to you and makes sure you understand everything that is going on with your pet.  The front office staff are friendly and caring.  The vet techs are wonderful and gentle.  I have two experiences to share.  The first is about my dog who passed away(euthanasia) July 7th at this location.  She was brought in because she was breathing abnormally and had a bad cough and was having trouble loosing weight.  They helped her as best as they could and were really wonderful with her.  They were not able to figure out exactly what the cause of her issues were so they referred us to the specialist in Tustin.  The other vet specialist could not figure out what was wrong either.  My dog had lots of fluid in her chest, a collapsed lung, problems with her organs, slight heart disease, and was not eating, and went downhill really fast.  She had exploratory surgery done at the specialist and a biopsy and no one could figure out what was wrong. She had a feeding tube as she wasn't eating and she had to have the fluid drained throughout the day.  She was on a ton of medications and was constantly being monitored.  Then she went downhill so fast we decided to bring her home.  She was hospitalized there for about 5 days or so before we finally took her home.  We had her for one night and then called Dr Franca at Banfield on the 7th to have her put down as she had zero quality of life and was dying.  You could just see the pain in her eyes, and she couldn't walk or eat or even drink water any more. When we arrived at Banfield they had us go into a room and brought a blanket to lay on the floor for us.  They stayed really late, as they were closed, and made time for my sweet dog.  The tech was so gentle with her and the vet was just so kind.  They gave us as much time as we needed before they began the overdose.  Sadly to say she passed away in my arms that evening.  After she went to the rainbow bridge, they gave us as much time as we needed to say our goodbyes and cuddle with her for the last time, even though they were closed. Though this is a sad story, I wan to point out they did EVERYTHING they could to help her.  They made that last, long, month of her life the best they could.  Even though she is no longer with us, I want people to know that no matter what vet we saw it would have turned out the same...she was going to pass on.  I am so thankful for the staff and their huge hearts for taking care of my dog all the way to the end.  They were so sweet to us the whole time, especially the last day.  I thank them for all their hard work and for being one of the most compassionate vet staff I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. The second story is about my other dog who got really sick suddenly and I took him there to Dr Franca.  Happy to say this worked out much much better.  My dog is feeling more normal and I am glad I had such wonderful people to help him.  I also thought he might have hip displaysia so I took him for xrays recently and he does not thankfully.  Dr Franca found out that in his past someone had shot him and he has a pellet in his right side by his hip. He is a rescue I've had for about 5 months and he is from Washington, was found as a stray. I am so grateful to all the staff here.  They were everything I could ask for.  Kind, caring, compassionate, gentle, knowledgable, and they really do love animals.  Banfield in the past use to not have the best staff, but now I am so happy that all the people that work there are just so awesome.  So thank you Dr Franca and everyone else.  You helped make a rough experience a lot easier to go through. I like Banfield mainly for its convenience. I've moved across the country and appreciate that their electronic medical records are transferrable across locations unlike other chains like VCA. They also have longer hours and on weekends so it's pretty easy to be seen.Banfields are overpriced and promote their Wellness plans hard "to spread the costs out"...I am doubtful this is the case as they only cover routine costs, and give a slight discount off their overpriced costs for emergent costs. I am locked into Wellness plans because the vet where I was living at the time is great and went there regularly.I prefer this location to the one at the Tustin Marketplace because they are not as understaffed and am generally in and out in an hour. I do not like that their comprehensive exams are not done face to face with a vet, but requires you to drop off the dog in the morning and be in a kennel all day until around 4-5pm. Even though their results have been normal I never got a chance to meet the vet who did the exam, instead I spoke with the tech to go over the results and answer my question. The vets currently on staff are all right, much much better than the vet mentioned in a few reviews. I just wish the turnover wasn't so high so my dogs can have some continuity of care because I really liked one of the doctors and he is no longer there.I've only had to come in to this locations for routine visits and minor health issues (knock on wood) so I do wonder if my review would be different if they needed urgent care. Once their plans expire I will likely cancel as the conveniences previously mentioned aren't as important as the quality/continuity of care and lower cost of a local vet. Read Less

I've been going here since my puppies were born. Which means I've had twice the service with a puppy plan and a wellness plan - almost 2 years of $35 - 30 per month service. That has now been cancelled. 1) Manager had poor costumer service at this particular location - got into a disagreement  and she apologized afterwards.2) Overpriced for all services - teeth extractions were estimated at $200 per tooth which I had done at half the cost elsewhere. Blood work recommended had estimated cost of $400. I took my pup to a trusted vet of a friend. Blood work was $125 with clean bill of health.3) Meds they wanted to prescribe about $300, also half the price else where.I've really never been anywhere with this poor of customer service where I felt like I was just another customer at some huge super store.I ended up leaving and going to some vet that a family friend recommended (Newport Mesa). I felt like family there, they were the sweetest people to my pets and did not over prescribe. I think for smaller things like yearly shots, this place is fine. For bigger things like sickness or serious check-ups, please go somewhere else so that your pet gets the care they need. Read Less

WORST Experience I have ever had, my poor puppy. The Vet (Peter Jaw) is the worst and has completely made my life and my puppy's life miserable. We signed up for the puppy plan and that is where it all started, he almost messed up a few times on the shots (thank god I was monitoring the screen) then he won't take a poop sample (which the plan stated) and is very hard to talk to. Then, against my better judgment (should have listen to my gut on this) we had her spay there because it's under our plan, he did the whole thing wrong, we ended up having to take her to another vet who said he would have never done it like this, put her on the wrong meds, that the other vet gave us the correct one for her...now she has to go through another 10 days because she had to be stapled bc he messed up. UGH, can't believe how bad this experience has been, I won't recommend going within 10 feet of this vet, STAY AWAY from Banfield at the district, trust me, you will thank me! Read Less

Read Less
