On December 22rd at 10:30pm I called the VAC Upland Veterinary Hospital telling them something was wrong with my beautiful cat, I arrived at 11:15pm, they took my cat back and about 20 minutes later the doctor came to talk to me, I explained how she was panting with her mouth open he said he saw this I also explained when I had come home she had thrown up and had diarrhea. Dr Ho said he needed to put her on oxygen right away and was going to do xrays and blood work, that it would take a couple of hours and to wait, at 1:15am a nurse came out and said they had tried to take blood 4 times from my cat but she was hissing, scratching and trying to bite them ( oh course she was scared ) and asked if they could give her some pain meds, in my mind I was thinking why didn't you ask me sooner! Then the clock hit 2:15 am then 3:15am a nurse and Dr Ho had come up and said they had 13 animals back in the back, and they were sorry it was taking so long, Dr Ho showed me my cats xrays and said she had diarrhea that had a hairball in it, he also showed me that her intestines were inflamed that she probably has an infection, at 3:45am Dr Ho came in with the blood work, her white blood cells were slightly elevated, but her liver was showing 461, normal is 20-100, he also said that because of how she was acting that he was sending her home so I could self medicate her, that she had an infection, never addressed the liver at all, at 3:45am the nurse came out gave me the bill and some antibiotics and said my cat only had to take this medication, I asked , should I take her in to my regular vet, she said no need, just give her the antibiotics that's all, I asked her twice because i could not believe this was just an infection and my cats age, she said no just give her the antibiotics and in a couple of days she would be fine. I got home at 4:30am, I woke up at 9:30am and my cat was worse, I call my vet they said bring her in, that they would contact the VCA to get the records, bottom line when we got there my cat was critical, and extremly hypoxic, my vet could not believe they sent her home with an anibiotic only with their bloodwork report, she said my cat should of been hospitalised put on oxygen and a catheter with fluids, we said good bye to our beautiful loving cat at 5:00pm that day. Dr Ho at the VCA KNEW my cat was having breathing problems he put her on oxygen as soon as I got there, but chose to send her home, he knew the bloodwork showed major problems, but chose to send her home, and because of him sending my cat home and the lack of oxygen to my cats brain for the 5 hours before I took her to my Vet, she had brain damage, she couldn't walk in a straight line, could not lift her head, she had no control over herself. And because of his decisions, me and my daughter had to make the hardsest decision we ever had to make, She could of lived if they would of taken care of her. The cost was never a factor I would not care about a bill. What I will not tolerate is a animal hospital sending an animal home in respiratory distress and not wanting to keep her because she was scratching and trying to bite them, (they didnt want to stress her out) oh and they had 13 other pets in the back, well now she is gone and we are left with a hole in our heart. Today I spoke to the head Doctor and I will wait to hear back from him before I decided what I will be doing next. Read Less

I paid $500 for the doctor to tell me nothing was wrong and provided me a pain medication that causes slight sedation. She also stated that my cats will be back to normal in a day. It's been 2 days, my cat hasn't eaten, hasn't drank, and is incoherent. So he is now admitted to a different clinic to receive actual treatment. We were told he is severely dehydrated and there is possible internal bleeding which should have been checked when we took him to the VCA. Not only is this place pricey, the staff is rude and uncaring. The doctor is unprofessional and does a half ass job. I do not recommend coming here if you are having an emergency. All you will get is a high bill, no answers, and rude service. Don't get me wrong, I understand the cost of caring for a pet is expensive and I'm willing to pay them. But I do expect results, things to be done correctly, and professionalism. Read Less

I give it 2 stars because they helped my dog to see again because his eye was shut. I was told I needed another check up within 5 days so I called to set up an appointment and the lady was rude. It is not my fault they didn't scheduled me one when I first went. As soon I got an appointment for the next day I said thank you and she literally hung up like if she didn't want to speak to me. I was raised to say thank you even at restaurants, I understand you work long hours but hanging up was just rude. Next time dont work at a "job" you don't enjoy doing. Read Less

I've had to say goodbye to too many of my pets thru the years and VCA doctors and staff have always been so extremely compassionate and understanding. The doctors here really love animals and that is such a comforting feeling when putting your loved one in their hands. The place is kept clean which is also a plus. And even tho the prices are high, if Dr Eby or Dr Kinney were still there I'd continue to go. Read Less

Made an appointment to get my 3 pets rabies vaccines was charges 189.00 so disappointed really wish they would have informed my that they were going to perform an exam and that would be 50.00 some dollars more per pet, im the customer you dont know my financial situation. The appointment was for rabies vaccines not an exam if i wanted an exam i would have made an appointment for one.After talking with Nichole they went ahead and refunded me my money which is great because they went from getting a one star to a four star and will give them another chance to be our permanent vet hospital. I have been coming here with my dog since 2012 and have had no negative experiences. We saw Dr. Ho last night and he is very thorough and takes the time with you to help understand the diagnosis and prognosis. I am still very pleased with VCA Central. F.y.i to all who call this place expensive....if you are not willing to invest $ on your pet, well, you shouldn't have one. Life, in general is expensive, get over it! Read Less

About 3 weeks ago my cat was in a lot of pain so I brought him in as an emergency visit. The doctor could not find anything wrong with his bloodwork or X-rays yet still wanted me to pay to get them sent to a specialist. I declined and the doctor gave pain meds and fluids which actually did help the cat. At this visit I had mentioned that the cat was having urinary issues and going all over the house. The doctor ignored this and did not even look at the urine. Two weeks later I noticed that my cat was now peeing blood so I called again and they claimed that he would need another full physical because this was a new problem. After much talking I finally got them to just run the urinalysis to test the urine which they had to send out instead of doing it in house. They would not give my cat any medication to make him more comfortable while we waited for the test results. When the results did come back they then said that they still could not give him any meds without first redoing all his bloodwork from two weeks before, redoing the X-rays, performing an ultrasound and a urine culture. They also said that he was dehydrated but would not send home SQ fluids that I could give to him under the skin. Basically they only wanted my money and did not try to help my cat without first draining my wallet and having him suffer while the tests came back from the lab. My dog was very ill and we had to put him down. The vet and her staff were amazing and they handled the entire situation with sympathy and were extremely professional. We lost our sweet Rocco on that day but left feeling like they cared and handled it in a way that made my husband and I feel more accepting of the decision that had to be made. Read Less

Very compassionate in a very hard time for me. They were very kind not just to my Coco but to my family as well. The Dr allowed all 3 of us to accompany Coco on her last minutes and very gently help her say goodby. A very hard and sad experience for us but they helped us get through it.
