I called to see about having my dogs teeth cleaned. They told me it would cost $600. for the cleaning but first I had to bring her for a $59. examination. I had already checked a few other places and knew this sounded reasonable. They had an appointment available the next day so I agreed to bring my dog in. She is a small seven year old dog with good teeth. I brush her teeth but there is quite a bit of plaque build up that I haven`t been able to get rid of The vet spent several minutes examining her teeth and then said "She would write up an estimate" When she returned with the estimate it was about double the price they had originally told me. I am exceptionally picky about the veterinarians that I allow to treat my animals. And I looked long and hard for the right clinic before finding Anacapa and Dr. Burner.  From the front desk to the office techs, they are top notch.  And Dr. Burner is absolutely great as well!  He has a beautiful "bedside manner" with the animals and I'm pretty satisfied with how he interacts with me as well when I'm there. If some of the procedure rates seem high, keep in mind that running a clinic is not cheap. And if you want top not medical care in top notch facilities, that comes with continuing education for the doctors and techs, updating the facility as needed, and hey, if you're going to keep up with evolving medicine, you need the state of the art machinery too... all that costs money. Bottom line is, you get what you pay for. Good medical care isn't cheap and cheap medical care isn't good.  My fur family and I plan to stick with  Anacapa and Dr. Burner and his staff and highly recommend them. Read Less

Dr. Burner and his team are amazing. I brought my bulldog in for a recheck, however my dog has breathing problems when he gets excited and things slowly went down hill. The minute me and Harley (bulldog) went in he began having difficulties breathing and the vet technician/assistant took my dog to a room and got Dr.Burner because Harley's tongue was turning purple. Dr. Burner responded quickly and jumped into action. He checked my dogs throat, gave him oxygen and a shot to clam down. Then he carried my dog to the car, where he and his team all waited outside for like 20 mins. Giving my dog oxygen and trying to calm him down in the car where Harley is most relaxed and comfortable (which I had the AC on full blast). Your Hospital Coordinator, Sarah, is so personable, kind and reassuring. She is awesome! Our dog, Gatsby, was injured in an accident and we were able to call ahead and get him right in to see a vet. Dr. Burner and Dr. Sama are excellent veterinarians. Their expertise and broad knowledge is well above what I've heard from pet owners who go elsewhere. Our beloved Aussie that recently went to doggie heaven unfortunately had a disease that often goes undiagnosed until it is too late, resulting in rapid demise of the animal. Because of Dr. Burner's keen insight, he identified this in its early stages and created a treatment/maintenance plan such that we enjoyed far more years with our "best friend" than is usually the case. We are forever indebted to him for that. There is such coordination between the two doctors, it didn't matter if we happen to come in on a day when Dr. Sama was working as she was completely apprised of our dog's specific condition and on-going issues. Our dog's treatment was seamless between the two doctors. They have always given of their time generously whether it be in the office or via telephone, no matter how many hundreds of questions I would have. Their staff provides extensive follow-up even beyond that. With regard to their office staff, they are extremely friendly, helpful, and professional, and they are well-familiarized with each family and pet. The vet techs that take the vitals are so upbeat and are passionate animal lovers that it really makes the dogs feel comfortable and takes away any trepidation they might feel as is often the case when a pet has to go to the vet. When it came time to say goodbye to our beloved canine, the loving and respectful compassion that was displayed to us and our dog by both the doctors and office staff was remarkable. It truly made an incredibly difficult time so much easier to endure. We feel so fortunate that our beloved dog received health care for his entire life at Anacapa Animal Hospital, from the age of 8-weeks. We have now begun a new adventure with another Aussie puppy and feel great about the fact that the Anacapa Animal Hospital staff with be there to provide medical and wellness care for the newest member of our family! Does not surprise me one bit that the reviews are excellent for this facility. Dr. Burner, Dr. Soma, and the rest of their staff are just excellent. Our two miniature pinchers, and three cats are always taken care of with patience, concern, not to mention they have answered every question honestly with regard to our animals even we were not crazy about the answer. I highly recommend Anacapa Animal Hospital; Dr. Burner and his staff are amazing. He discovered masses on Scamp's spleen, and spent over an hour on the phone with me initially, discussing treatment options. I spoke with Dr. Burner several more times, including after 8 p.m. on a Friday, where he spent a great deal of time patiently answering my questions. He was candid with me at all times, which I greatly appreciated. Great news! Scamp had his spleen removed and is doing very well! Dr. Burner personally called with me to ask how Scamp was doing after surgery. Dr. Burner's passion for his craft is obvious in the time he takes to care for his patients and answer their human companions' questions.
