I'm not here to make this practice look bad ...tho they do it on their own...im just here to share my experience so others know. So I took my boxer in yesterday got blood work and they told me she had a uterus infection. They claimed that if I didn't get her fixed that her bladder could pop and cause bigger issues. They said the operation to fix her would be $7,000.00--8,000.00 dollars. That is pretty ridiculous if you ask me especially when there's places that do it for free. I took her to my vet the next morning and told them I had a emergency and I need to get her fixed asap or her bladder could pop....when they opened her up they said she DID NOT HAVE A UTERUS INFECTION. The staff tried to guilt me in to doing the operation and were rude when I didnt...so I saved 7 to 8 thousand dollars but now my dog is fixed and I really didn't want her to be. Thanks guysπŸ–• Read Less

Took my baby here on the 4th no where else to go. They left her in a cage for almost 4 hours because there was only one doctor and they were busy. I heard numerous people being quoted $2-3,000!!! My gal came out worst than when she went in I was quoted 1,700 for IV’s and meds. They gave her nothing did nothing and got paid the $75.00 fees for looking at her and telling me everything I already knew. I asked them to please give her the meds they said they couldn’t unless I did everything else they wanted to do. I took her home, Pedialyte seems to be helping she was nearly dead when they gave her back to me, now she is walking eyes open and drinking. I’m pretty sure they would have killed her. Read Less

Pricey and not worth the hassel. The uncommunacative staff nearly sent my poor girl into worse pain and suffering. Took her to another vets office and paid half the price. The staff seems rude and uncaring most times. They see these emergencies everyday but as owners we are just looking for a few kind words and to think that you care. Also, most other vets offices will let you sit with your pup for as long as needed during care as they realize that care comes from not only doctors but the family as well. Our dog was seen yesterday in Ventura at the emergency clinic for what we assumed was a bad hot spot that he would just Not leave alone. After 6 hours with the entire staff coming in and treating my husband as if we had neglected our animal in some way, saying they’d never seen anything like it... the Dr then tells my husband our dogs skin is detaching from the muscle (I have this in writing from the dr) and that he was suffering from a very serious skin disorder. Along with a possible gastrointestinal issue. We were floored and devasted to think our dog had been suffering and we didn’t know. We were given the estimated bill, $3400. We decided to wait and take him to our normal vet this morning... diagnosis... HOT SPOT and our dog is perfectly healthy. No evidence of any other issues what so ever. He was put under, hot spot area shaved and cleaned, teeth cleaned and he was neutered (we had yet to do it so it was great to get that done) all for $750!!!!! While I understand emergency clinics are going to be expensive, what I don’t understand is the horrible communication from the staff and Doctor! Having us believe our dog was severely ill when in fact it was a minor issue. I would never recommend anyone take their pets here. Read Less

While they WERE able to fix my dog's urinary tract infection/stones (after about 5000 dollars, multiple visits, tests, and a surgery), like many others on here I feel the staff was incredibly unorganized, disrespectful of my time, and frankly the front staff did not know what the folks in the back were doing half the time. I discussed this with a vet we really like, and she knew about the challenges, then LEFT the clinic and went elsewhere (we kept in touch, needless to say). NOW, to make matters MUCH worse, exactly 1 year later - TO THE DAY, I get a call from a farking BILL COLLECTOR, telling me I owe them money!! WTHell? I called VMSG to discuss. It turns out we paid for the last visit, but NOT for the last culture and urine test. I didn't even KNOW I owed ANY money??? No calls, they just sicked the debt collector (in the PHILIPPINES) on me. Total BS. I couldn't even pay them directly... I had to wait for another call from someone who barely speaks my language. If I could give 0 stars I would, this facility does not even deserve a 1 star rating. I took my beloved dog here when he had a medical issue with his hind legs come up over the weekend and our regular vet office was closed. First, they separated me from my pet and whisked him away to the back. They put me in an exam room....then in less than 5 minutes a vet comes in and breaks the news that my dog needs "emergency surgery" that totals to over $8,000! She then proceeded to tell me that if I didn't have this surgery done my dog would basically become a "paraplegic". I was in disbelief and on the verge of tears. I did not have $8,000 and how could they give such a grave diagnosis without any tests (blood work, x-ray, CT scan MRI scan)?!?! They then opened up the internet page for care credit in the exam room and proceeded to tell me to call them so I can get a credit card to pay for the surgery! At that point I had just about lost it.....Long story short, I left the facility to get a second opinion in Thousand Oaks which was MUCH MUCH better than this place. The doctors and staff in Thousand Oaks were much more knowledgeable and honest and weren't money hungry. The vet Β even laughed and shook his head in disbelief at what the VSMG staff told me in regards to my dog's "diagnosis". My dog never needed any type of surgery and he is alive and doing well! Bottom line, would I recommend this place to anyone? NO, RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN. Save your money and your pet's life! Read Less

Several YEARS ago I was dog sitting for a friend. Her elderly dog had spontaneously fractured his jaw while in the care of his mother a few months prior so we knew that his bones were fragile. This happened again while she was away for the weekend and I was in charge. There was a-now well known- staffing issue at the Santa Barbara CARE facility on that very day and they couldn't fit us in. I was frantic. CARE called VMSG to consult and VMSG said to come right over and informed me that their surgeon was capable of such a complicated case. Rush hour traffic, SB to Ventura can be brutal. An hour and 1/2 later I arrived. They took us in. Did an exam and then offered to house the dog until Monday. MONDAY?! Where is the surgeon? "It's her day off"..."DAY OFF?!" I JUST called. "She's at the beach with her kids...she won't be in until Monday." I was livid. I called. I checked. I drove in rush hour traffic, only to find that the vision of a prepped doctor waiting at the ready was not even close to a reality. I informed the staff that I was leaving and they presented me with a bill for an exam that I didn't need. The dog had already had an exam at another Vet's only a few hours ago-that I paid in full. IF there was going to be a surgery then BY ALL MEANS an exam would be understandable. I was NOT going to pay for a pre-op exam for a surgery that WASN'T happening. BAIT and SWITCH. I wouldn't have made the trip if there wasn't a surgeon in house. It's been YEARS...and today I get a COLLECTION CALL for a 5-6-7-8 year old bill that I informed them I would never pay. I didn't NEED an pre-op EXAM for a surgery that was never happening as your surgeon was at the BEACH! I called George's Mom who was in the mountains and she headed home that evening after a stressful 7-8 hour ride. George was put to sleep the next day and you have the nerve to bill me YEARS later. The audacity. The whole event was so traumatic and here you are...again. Appalled. Read Less

On Thursday May 4th I came home during lunch as usual to walk my dogs only to find my 11 year old baby Fedora was gasping for hair and could hardly breathe. I called several vets and no one could take her until a few hours. One vet said "If the breathing gets worse call Β VMSG". I wasted no time and just decided to call. They said to bring her in. As soon as I brought her in, they came and whisked her away like the VIP she truly is. Shortly after I was told the diagnostics they wanted to perform and what the price would be. Luckily the cardiologist was there that day. I gave the go ahead. While I was sitting in the waiting room I looked up the yelp reviews for this place. It made me a little nervous and unsure reading some of the negative reviews. They told me I would need to leave her overnight, and I got an updated estimate. They let me say goodbye while she was in her little oxygen box, and give her a blanket and her bed. I wanted to make sure she was comfortable since I've never left her anywhere overnight. I got to take my dog home the next afternoon. Turns out she has a heart murmur, heart disease, and diabetes. Fluid was built up around her lungs making it hard for her to breathe. I would bring my dog here again in a heartbeat! They took such great care of her that I think she thought she was at doggy spa. The staff was professional and caring. Never did I feel pressured into anything. There's no doubt in my mind that with all of the specialists at this facility that my love was where she needed to be. She was in good hands. Now she's home with her heart pills and insulin shots doing great. For those worried about price, I was too. Trust me I'm not rich. It's on the pricey side but it's worth every penny. Do what you have to do to make it work. I cancelled upcoming trips, cancelled barkbox, cancelled monthly monetary donations that I make to animal rescues. Basically I cancelled Summer 2017. But my dog is worth it! There is no fee I wouldn't pay to save my children. If I had to get a second job, sell everything I own I would.PS. I'm taking donations. Read Less

By far the worst emergency hospital I've been to. Extremely unprofessional , simply in it to make money. Brought a very sick cat in with suspected asthma attack. Observed... or do they say her for maybe 30 minutes, stated her breathing was normal and fine. Suggested $700 in labs and X-rays to verify asthma. I declined and opted to take her to my vet in the morning. Went to my Primary vet where they concluded she was not having an asthma flare up and was in the middle of a severe upper respiratory infection clearly. She went without treatment for an extra 24 hours which was completely unnecessary. Requested a exam refund of $82 due to the lack of a proper examination and unnecessary treatment suggestions. After NUMEROUS calls and promised call backs ( which never happened) to the VERY unprofessional office manager they finally decided a bad review was worth more than losing $82 and making it right. Sad that money is all that matters to them. They've lost a customer Read Less

My wife and I brought our cat here because she was having trouble breathing and really looked bad, they said bring her in so we did. They put cage and observed her for about 30 min and then came out an said nothing was wrong with her and charged us 82.00 and said keep an eye on her. We took her home and she was bad off the next day my wife took her to Ohana and the said she has A upper respiratory infection and gave us prescriptions to give her. 4 days now have gone by and everyday she is looking better. It's really sad that they did nothing at all for us and our cat could have died. My wife called now 3 times to get our money back for a night that the staff here did nothing to help us with. FYI not one person has returned her call. So I started calling and talking to Diane the office manager which by the way she is extremely unprofessional she told me that she would return my call the same day before 8 PM and I never heard back from her so I called an additional three days so I called again and finally got her on the phone she said that she would talk to her manager can call me back before 11 AM the next day oops never called me, it is been over a week and a half now and I have been calling every day leaving messages on her desk and voicemail she still never returned my call so finally I called March 15 and she answered to tell me that they were not refunding the money even though they did not prescribe her any medication all they wanted to do was x-rays urinalysis and blood work to make a spend more money. Like I said before we took our cat the next day and they prescribed her medicine without doing any of the above note they also had all of her records about her asthma problem. It seems the wrong people are attracted to Veterinary School...my opinion is that most people no longer go into medicine to help people or animals, they do it for the money. Beware of anyone looking to profit from your pain...that's the corporate model for veterinary care, and medical care for human beings as well. Veterinarians also mimic the model hospitals and dentists are using by charging by the procedure, which is far more lucrative then charging by the hour. As far as I'm concerned, VMSG is just a cash machine for someone with the care of your pet a distant second to the mighty dollar, of course nearly all vets are like this it's just that some are worse than others...far worse! Be very careful with huge, hefty totally unnecessary charges from VMSG. I took my 11 week old Pomeranian puppy there for a fractured radius and ulna. The fracture was simple, closed and clear on the xray from the referring vet. VMSG wanted to put pins and plates on her for a total of $5700.00 I told them to place a splint on her. The surgeon seemed relieved when I suggested that and said that is a very good option. WHY DIDN'T SHE SUGGEST THAT? The splint was only $99 but by the time they insisted she stay for 3 days and gave her heavy pain meds and ICU monitoring, the bill ended up being $1500. I asked why would a simple fracture need 24 hours of ICU? They didn't give me a good answer and said I would have to ask the doctor. I will never use them again or recommend them. This review is late but I felt it was important to express the disappoint my sister experienced when taking her beloved cat to VMSG. She was referred from out to town and rushed her cat to VMSG only to be given the run around with a hefty price tag. It was so heartbreaking to hear that a specialist wouldn't see her, although they were in the building and that she and her cat were treated with no compassion. I have no doubt about the high level of clinical experience and credentials of the veterinarians, as I have taken my own cat there but I would agree with the previous reviews that the only options presented are for the financial benefits of VSMG. It was beyond surprising to hear of the behind closed doors service and lack of empathy and negative attitudes from staff. At one point, my sister broke down due to the massive prices they were quoting her for the care of her cat from ultrasound to blood transfusions to surgeries, etc... As if it is not difficult enough to deal with a sickly family member, this organization adds to the stress and emotional trauma. They really did nothing to help and my sister returned home, a two hour drive, only to go back to her vet and say goodbye to her furry friend of 14 years. When she told me of her experience, I was upset and angry that an organization that is suppose to help takes advantage of such vulnerable situations. I will absolutely think twice before referring anyone to VMSG.Read Less

I have no doubt about the high level of clinical experience and credentials of the veterinarians; and don't worry, they'll tell you. However, it's difficult to make decisions for your animal when you are only presented with options that benefit the financial objectives of VMSG. This organization exists not to serve the interest and ethics of animal welfare, but to seek a hefty profit. Ethically, VMSG was appalling. We experienced unusual, behind closed doors service and a lack of empathy and negative attitudes from staff upon walking through the doors. VMSG practices nothing short of extortion pricing strategies for service and emotional manipulation for communication and determining a plan of action for your animal. VMSG quoted us over $6,000 for a nonemergency surgery for our cat. And on multiple occasions insisted that the animal's life was in immediate danger if we chose to seek a second opinion. We had the procedure performed for a third of the initial quote at Anacapa Animal Hospital after a calm, honest and open discussion about a tough decision for our cat. Go to Anacapa for great care and service. Even if you don't arrive with one, VMSG will make sure you have a medical emergency for your pet. The vet staff working with us even remarked that she couldn't afford to have her animals seen by a vet at VMSG(?!). Hard to back a business where the staff doesn't or can't use the service. Read Less

My border collie collapsed at 7:00 in the evening. She acting like she was drunk and then collapsed. I scoped her up and headed to VMSG. The charge for the vet is 150.00; okay I understand emergency is more expensive than the vet office. The vet told me she has a heart murmur. Wanted to do blood work, x-rays, pericardial tap and keep her overnight. Then the next day sent her to a cardiac specialist in Thousand Oaks. I said no to the specialists, because the expense was climbing. Then she wanted kept her another day so the ultrasound test could be done, because the specialists for this test not there. Beware of all the cost if you take your pet to this place. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR PET OVERNIGHT. The cost was 53.00 per day to keep her but the cost to monitor her was around 122.00 per day. That would have saved me around 350.00 dollars. (2 days) This vet did not give the option to bring her home and then return the next day for the ultrasound test. Keep in mind that once the vet you get leaves for the night or day, the next vet taking his/her place will charge you the fee again. (Other 150.00) I wasnt thinking clearly letting the vets do what they wanted to do. The next morning I got up early and when to see her. She pee and poops all over the room. Well that tells me the person watching her didnt do a very good job, and didnt let her out that morning to do her business. DOES IT? The medicine that they sent her home with is Furosemide and Vetmedian. Well. the Vetmedian is 135.00 for 60 days. Vet told me that I might be able to find in online cheater. The Furosemide dose was 1 table 2 times a daily. (20mg) VMSG called me Monday morning tell me the dose was incorrect should be 2 tables twice a daily (40mg). So when I went to the regular vet he was so confused, he needed to call VMSG to verify. GET RIGHT VMSG THATS WHY ARE PAYING YOU 150.00. Oh course I ran out of the Furosemide because the my Vet didnt have this dose. (20mg) One more thing she now pees all over the floor because can't hold it. My bill was 1,660.00. Now Im in debt for a dog with Congestion Heart Failure. Not counting the medicine she is taking. And the Vets at VMSG want me to wait 6 months to see if my dog lives or dies. Don't get me wrong I love my Dog. Read Less

This practice is a state-of-the art facility run by the most caring, compassionate and capable professionals you can imagine. Originally, I was referred to them because my then 13 year old female spaniel mix had come down with an illness that is often fatal. VMSG did everyting possible, and despite a less than 50/50 chance, my beautiful pet made a full recovery. That was three years ago. My dog is still very much alive and thriving. I often think of how she would not be here today had it not been for the staff of VMSG. I'd recommed them without hesitation. Read Less

They gave her nothing did nothing and got paid the $75.00 fees for looking at her and telling me everything I already knew. I asked them to please give her the meds they said they couldn’t unless I did everything else they wanted to do.

My puppy is going great after having the splint instead of pins and plate. Read Less

Read Less

This place was amazing. We had to take our 5 month old puppy because his neuting incision opened up and they were so friendly and professional. When more critical patients came in, they were quick to let us know that it may take a little longer for us since we were not there for a critical matter. They were apologetic about the wait, but we were fine because they kept us updated. All of the staff was so friendly and informative. I would definitely feel very comfortable bring my dog back if there was a need again.Read Less

Read Less
