Valley Oak SPCA Spay Clinic

Visalia, California
General Info
Thank you for your interest in helping Valley Oak SPCA! Volunteers working at our Adoption Center assist with socializing dogs & cats, giving them opportunities to exercise or cuddle, they help clean kennels, groom and walk them. Valley Oak SPCA volunteers help by working at offsite events, including adoptions and educational tables. They help us raise money for major events, distribute flyers, post our information on social media, and they help us make people aware of responsible pet care, ownership and the importance of spay and neutering their pets.
Valley Oak SPCA is always taking volunteer applications. New volunteer orientations are held monthly. We offer training and hold volunteer meetings every month where you can learn about projects and programs. Go online to http://vospca.org/programs/volunteer-program/ or visit us at 29010 Hwy 99, Visalia 93277. Questions? I can't say enough good things about this clinic! Everyone is so concerned about the wellbeing of each animal that they see. I am confident that they have my pet's best interest in mind every time I am in there. I was a little concerned about how my cat's incision from his recent neuter was healing because he started licking the incision, and they rechecked him and took care of him, and I didn't have to wait for an appointment! We walked in nice, neat place but as soon as my sister was trying to sign in receptionist comes from the back yelling at How can we help you? My sister continues to sign in & states we have an appointment. Receptionist says, HOW can we help You! Don't sign in. My sister says oh. Very rude staff member. No one was in the waiting area, so it was not busy. So I do not understand her frustration. We sit for a bit. Visit was fast, fur baby received a shot. Vet was nice. My sis comes out. My sis tries to get info from receptionist she is short with her & just gives her paperwork. If she don't like questions or dealing with people, then do not work here. Just a very rude lady. I will continue to visit the other site. This receptionist does not make you feel welcomed at all. Just to bad because it looks like a nice place. Read Less

Found a puppy on Valley Oak SPCA website that fit the crossbreed we wanted.  Contacted them by email to see if it was still available.  Keyana responded yes.  Then I called to be sure they were open.  The young man said yes and that the dog was available but she had kennel cough.  I asked if we could see her and if we adopt her would they keep her a week for her to get over the cough and also because we were going out if town.  He checked with the manager who agreed.   We drove over an hour from Fresno in a rain storm to VOSPCA.  When we walked in the young man was on the phone with what appeared to be a personal call.  We waited about 5-6 minutes for him to finish.  He directed us to where we would find the dog.  Poor thing was in an area that was cold and damp from the storm.  Not a good way to treat kennel cough.  In any case, when we got there we were told by Keyana that they could not hold the dog that long and that that day five others told her they were interested in the same dog.  She never mentioned nor did the young man mention that to us when I contacted them.  Why would someone drive over an hour to see if they can beat the other five.  We went back to the office and asked why they said they would keep the dog until we could pick her up in a week.  Keyana said that was before the manager knew there were others interested. Keyana talked to the manager who then said it was okay for us to adopt the dog.Because the manager never came out of the office to talk with us, the poor customer service and mixed messages we got from the staff, and the puppy being in a cage in the cold with kennel cough, it appeared a careless operation and caused us to wonder what else they were not telling us.  We decided not to adopt from VOSPCA.  After reading the reviews when I got home, it confirmed my suspicions.  We'll wait for the right dog to appear at our local SPCA, where we have found our previous dogs, and where they take time with their customers to help them find the right match. Our puppy is about 9 months now. We originally took her here to valley oak spca for her shots. At first we were apprehensive about taking our puppy to an spca for anything, but the price was good so we decided to try them out for vaccinations. I always compared it to going to the Salvation Army or food stamp office, even though we have money. But that was just my uneducated opinion. Our first visit was interesting. We showed up at 9 am, checked in and waited to be called. As we waited, there were many other people waiting with their dogs and cats. So if your dog is skittish or nervous aggressive type, it would be good to be careful while waiting. Sometimes other pet owners are not very diligent in keeping their dogs contained. So this may cause an unwanted snap or scuffle with dogs. Cats are usually in crates. Once you get past the excitement of waiting with many other people and dogs, the nerves calm and you feel like this isn't so bad. The waits can be long. Depending on how busy they are on that day. This is a walk in clinic so it varies how many people decide to show up that day. There were times when we waited 15 minutes to get called back and there were times when we waited over an hour. So expect the worst and plan to be there at least an hour. The vets are knowledgeable and each time our puppy was given shots, it was fast and we were informed of any possible side affects. We recently had our puppy spayed, micro chipped, and some baby teeth pulled all in one shot. I was concerned that the quality of surgery would be sub par and there would be infection or some other complication for going cheap. I was worried as most pet owners are. Happy to say that everything went well. Our puppy is still recovering but no infection, no complications, after a full 24 hours after the procedure our puppy was fine. The incision site looks good and our dog is healthy. They did a pretty good job. So as far as I'm concerned they are legit. Read Less

The puppy I adopted is a sweet, adorable little girl. I brought her home on Saturday morning. They had informed me that these animals often get kennel cough which is easily treated with antibiotics, but there was no suggestion that she had this. She had also recently been spayed, which I was informed of as well. What I was not told was that she had staples in a hind leg where a dew claw was removed. We found that when she began pulling at the staples since the cone she had on did nothing to keep her from it. Nor was I told that she was showing symptoms of kennel cough. (She coughed and spit up a few times during our 40 minute drive home.) I'm astonished that she was sent to her new home, where there was another dog, with obvious signs/symptoms of a highly contagious illness and at the beginning of the weekend with no antibiotics to treat it! They were not forthcoming with all pertinent information regarding her care needs. Disappointed.Read Less

I lost my dog on a Friday. I didn't know she was at SPCA all weekend. I was out of town and tried to call and message them but never got a message back and no one would answer for 2 hours on several occasions that weekend. My in laws finally found her at SPCA and when told she was chipped after they said they had her since Friday, they told them that they never checked her for a chip and they they gave her a rabies shot. When her chip has all that information on it including her vet information. They made us pay the fine to get her out. They could have called me to let me know she was missing and that SPCA had her. They even posted her missing picture with information on the post. SPCA needs to be on board and be checking all the animals for chips. Let me just start by saying, if you have never worked at a shelter and have no idea the stress and emotion that is involved then you have no right to judge these people who pour their hearts into this job. I have been an ACO for Monterey co. and while it was years ago and for a very short time I can tell you that it is a thankless job and every "Animal lover" out there has an opinion on how things should be done. Well start by putting your money where your mouth is! Donate time, money, food, blankets..........your home as a foster. This valley has an Awful animal neglect problem but most of the people in this county don't want to hear the grotesque details they just want someone to "MAGICALLY" fix it. Help educate the uneducated about spay and neuter program and stop backyard breeders from adding to the problem. Step up and help make a difference before bashing a place that you know little about.Read Less

We did a foster to adopt for our sweet little pocket pittie Burtie! This is an amazing NO Kill rescue that does their best to find these animals forever homes! Really sad that people are continuously getting them confused with Visalia Animal Services. They pulled our sweet Burt from there the day she was supposed to be put down and put her up for adoption! And we adopted her shortly after! Thank you Valley Oak for our sweet little ladyRead Less

Today I was thinking about how much I have fallen in love the beautiful Siberian Husky I adopted from here so I wanted to stop by and leave a review to show how much I appreciate the gift they gave me. Here they don't give up on the dogs they meet. I Learned that the husky i adopted was adopted out and returned a total of 5x after and being there for so long most shelters would have decided to take her god-given right to be here on this Earth. With that said I want to say thank you again Valley Oak for everything you, your employees, and volunteers do for the animals and people you come acrossRead Less

I have no idea why this place has gotten such terrible reviews. I visited this SPCA last week and was so impressed; it took me under an hour to get my dog her shots.I realized that one of the vets that is there is even my vet at companion animal clinic, which is WAY more expensive than this place.I was so surprised at how clean and organized this place was and will be taking my animals here for their shots from now on. What if my dog need medication they would have never known since she wasn't Checked of a chip.Read Less
