This clinic put my puppy at risk by giving him shots without checking with me first. My appointment was for grooming and a flea bath. He came home with fleas and his nails/hair untouched. All they did was administer shots he didn't need and charged $90 for it. I hoped this clinic would get better with age, but for the 5+ years I have come, they just haven't changed. My little kitten was in severe respiratory distress. When I walked in the door, the receptionist was professional and kind. The tech came right out and took my kitten back for an assessment. Dr. Yu came in and was very informative and quickly made a diagnosis. He was right on the money and with medication got her back to normal. My dog has been going to East lake animal vet for 15 years. She has always been giving the best treatment through out her years. Two months shy of her 16th. birthday, I had to put her down. Everyone there were so sorry to hear about what happened to my dog that morning. I received a very nice condolence card. I had her cremated and 2 weeks later I went in to pick her up in a beautiful box with her name and date engraved on it. East Lake Animal Clinic provides competent, professional and timely service to my family of pets. They focus on exceptional care without needless or non thought out procedures and services in order to drive up the menu of charges. Their hours of operation and their ability to do most of the lab, diagnosis, testing and procedures in-house make them a "no-brainer" versus providers who do not have these capabilities and they can keep a pet overnight if necessary. The fact they are involved in many of the Central Coast animal rescue projects (AFRP, Project Purr, Etc.) makes me even more inclined to support their clinic. Read Less

Strong-arm robbery, and pet-naping! Worst service Ive ever experienced, not to mention they robbed me. I brought my cat, who I would die for in a heartbeat, to their clinic after she was attacked by some unknown beast from under the house. No sooner had Fancy gone through the door of the exam room, they demanded 100 dollars. When asked what exactly that hundred dollars would cover, I was told the exam only, and if i didn't pay they would not release my pet. Now at first i wasn't so opposed to paying the fee, but then they told my girlfriend that she "Could not" leave the property, that someone HAD to be there no matter what. Even that would have been fine, except that in my haste to get my baby to the clinic I had inadvertently forgotten my wallet. So I drive 30 min home, and 30 min back, and unfortunately I only had 60$ cash i could withdraw until later in the evening. So i asked them to take the 60$ and give me my cat, seeing as how the hundred dollars wasn't going to cover any treatment, I see nothing wrong with asking for MY pet. After the "manager" refused to let me take my cat (are you ******* kidding me?) I politely asked her to work with me. Again she REFUSED to RETURN MY PET, i politely told her I was going to "GO THE **** OFF" but politely as possible. She called the cops on me. NEEDLESS TO SAY LESSON LEARNED, maybe if the owners didnt have their heads up their @SSeS they might get repeat customers. We have been accessing care for our pets at East Lake Animal Clinic for over 20 years. Recently our dog ate some D-Con on a Sunday afternoon. We called East Lake and they told us to bring him right in. Someone was waiting for us at the door when we arrived. The Vet. Dr Yu, was able to diagnose and treat quickly. Dr Yu advised us in detail of the poison's action and treatment. Two hours later, we picked up our dog and he is totally fine now. I take all my fur babies here and so far I have mostly had good experiences.  However there have been times where the costs seemed high, and depending on the visit I would be asked to make a choice between two things and one always added more to my vet bill but was always encouraged and when your pup is in pain you always want to do what's best.  And when my little pup had an unexpected emergency which ended in having to euthanize her, the cost was extremely high and I had to pay before they did anything which was hard to be in an emotional moment and still go give my CC and sign.  And the vaccine costs have almost doubled over the past 2 years.  I know this sounds a little negative but overall they are a great place with convenient hours and when comparing some prices to other vets they are in the same range Read Less

My dog was in need of medical treatment due to a coyote attack. I took her to East Lake and they found 4 bite marks/wounds. They shaved her and stapled 3 of the four areas. I took her home that evening. The next day she pulled out her staples (I should have thought about that) I took her back and was very upset that she had to go again and get stapled, as they bring up the estimate it's $300.00+ to re-staple her...I just paid $425.00 Friday night, the $ isn't the issue, I felt that the Vet should have put a cone on my dog initially and that would have avoided the additional trauma and cost. I ended up leaving and had to take my dog to Pacific Vet in Santa Cruz, I spent more $ but my animal and I were treated so much better and the care was wonderful. The bottom line is my dog, should have gone home with a cone. If she had she'd be that much closer to recovery. The front staff are nice but the vet care needs improvement . I have 3 dogs 5 cats and will not go there again. $$$$$$$$$ Read Less

Very cruel to families who face the terrible task of putting their beloved pet to sleep. Quoted a price, charged the card, took in the cat....THEN explained additional charges, refused to refund the charge OR return the cat, and refused to let the grieving owner stay with her cat while he took his last breaths. If they do that in front of the pet owner, what do they do to your pet when nobody is looking?????? No compassion for the pet OR the owners. Beware. :( Read Less

This vet gave a friend a quote of EU'ing her pet, then when she got there and paid the fee quoted, they added fees so she would be allowed to be IN the room with her pet while they euthanize it!! , casket, (cardboard box) also had fees!! So it went from $110-$265!! They had already charged her card the $110 and refused to give it back OR the cat unless she payed him the $265! Dr. Carroll is a kind and generous man. I rescued a feral kitty and he  helped me out tremendously with his time, advice and expertise. My kitty had a chronic sinus infection and desperately needed teeth extracted, teeth cleaning and antibiotics. I checked with other vets who wanted to charge me 1000's of dollars. As it normally happens, when you most need a vet, is when it is after hours or on the weekend. It just so happened that I needed a vet after hours. I searched out a few different ones and settled on East Lake Animal Clinic located in Watsonville. Let me tell you, that in my experience, I have never met a nicer man or vet then John Liao, D.V.M. He took his time with my dog. He examined her thoroughly in front of me. He actually got down on the ground to be on her level. Then when it was necessary to take her to the back without me, I thought for sure that my dog would refuse to go with him. But he was so coaxing, that my dog went willingly with John Lio, D.V.M. When he came back, he was very reassuring. He gave me plenty of options, ranging from the most conservative to the most liberal. He asked many questions and fully listened to the answers.  John Lio, D.V.M. is by far the best vet that I've ever been too. Without hesitation I would take my pet to him again and I would fully recommend anyone to also do the same.
