Extremely disappointed yesterday at the care that I rec'd here for my senior chihuahua & just the overall posture of the group.  I will not be back & will be advising all my neighbors of this.  Now, to what happened.  I have used this vet for 2.5 years as a secondary vet to my "kids" because their primary vet is a 40 minute drive away.  Up until yesterday the care was adequate, albeit egregiously expensive.  For the record, they mark up they prescription diets  what appears to be 40%, & until I found chewy.com, was being taken to the cleaners.  Back to the story... my senior chihuahua, Freeway, had what appears to have been two small seizures, of course, I freaked out, brought him in.  When I came in I tried to explain to them that over the last year, Freeway had started exhibiting doggy dementia, to wit, he was easily agitated, would get disoriented around people he was not familiar with & in unfamiliar situations.  I could not have  been more clear about these facts.  I had done my homework, discussed these symptoms with other people, & there is no doubt that CDD is what Freeway has.  Well, they took him back, worked him up, & brought me $1000+ bill.  I was stunned but not much I will not do for my "kids," so I signed it.  They told me that he was agitated so they were going to sedate him a bit to try to make sure he was okay.  Since I live literally 5 minutes away, figured it couldn't hurt him, I told them I needed to run home to attend to my other dog who was liking turning my living room into thunderdome, & I would be back.  Well, when I went home I get a call from the vet, telling me that while everything is okay with Freeway & his bloodwork is fine, etc, that she is concerned about his disorientation & agitation.  Again, I try to explain to her that that is his normal benchmark right now when it comes to people he doesn't see daily & places he is unfamiliar with.  Well she clearly was too intent on trying to get a financial kickback from the neurology folks, because she went from not listening straight to alarmist mode, telling me the dog was concerning for brain lesions, probably needed a spinal tap, so on and so forth.  I was stunned again.  She told me they were trying to keep him sedated & to hear her talk my dog was at death's door.  Well, I told her I'd be in touch shortly because right around that time my BS meter went into effect.  I  contacted my father, asked him to please get Freeway an appointment for our primary vet ASAP, that I was on my way.  I called WHAH back & they hemmed & hawed & told me that it would take 45 minutes to prepare Freeway for transport.  I flipped my beach switch at that point & I demanded to speak to the vet, told her I'm taking my dog for a second opinion & you have exactly 15 minutes to get him ready to go along with his case file.  At this point suddenly realizing that my business was going to be going elsewhere for all of my animals, the backtracking started.  Well, either my dog is so emergent he needs a neuro or you're so intent on getting a kickback that the only reason you even suggested a neuro in the first place was to line your pocket & now that you realize I'm taking my business elsewhere, NOW, you want to discuss medications?  Clearly your original medical opinion was shady if you're switching it on a dime like that. When I got to WHAH they made me wait an additional 10 minutes for my dog.  During that time I'm standing there with my business checkbook in hand, presumably with an emergent situation with my animal & the IDIOT at the register eyeballs me, checks out two other people, eyeballs me some more & THEN tells me they don't take checks.  REALLY?  I've been standing there for 10 minutes & NOW is when you tell me this?  Thank God I had my business credit card with me because I have absolutely NO doubt that they would have held my emergent dog hostage till I went home & got it, before allowing me to transport him for his second opinion.  This entire attitude is reprehensible & wholly disgusting & really makes you wonder how knackered the moral compass of this place actually is because it is clear the almighty dollar is the ONLY thing they are concerned with.  I've been a client for 2.5 years I was shown absolutely zero in the way of any kind of courtesy & it was made abundantly clear to me that the only thing they saw when they looked at me or my animals was a dollar sign, either in their stupidly inflated fees, crazily marked up highway thievery insofar as script food, & the suggestions of unnecessary & dangerous tests & referrals because of the financial kickback.  You people are disgusting & the bottom of the barrel in sleaze.  You take advantage of people when they are at their most vulnerable & you do it for your own gain, never once thinking about anything but your pocketbook.  Thankfully, my dog was not emergent. Facebook will also hear about this, as will all my rescue groups.  You people are reprehensible. Read Less

We've LOVED WHAH for many years now -- having had two of our dogs treated and well-loved since 1995 we feel extremely confident with the staff and doctors there.  We have experienced loyal, thorough, expert, and loving treatment for our pets during that time without exception AND recognize especially Dr. Gerards for her expertise and tenacity when our one year old Labrador retriever became poisoned from accidentally consuming another dog's medication.  Dr. Gerards saved our pup's life without a doubt through her knowledge and sheer determination the day that we brought our pup in.  A terrible accident became a happy ending due to the staff at WHAH and we will be forever grateful!  Thank you all SO much!We are SO satisfied with the entire staff and cannot say thanks enough to Drs. Lawson and Gerards for their compassion and care throughout these years!  Also a shout out to a former WHAH star -- Dr. Moussa back in 2011 and before for her love and care during some trying times with our dog Abbey.  She has since left the area, but our hearts and gratitude still remain for her extreme compassion and knowledge in caring for our dog for many years. I love this vet. I've been bringing my dogs here since I moved from Illinois. I see more bad reviews than I expected so even though I hardly review I thought they deserved a good one. West Hills animal hospital has done so much for the health of my dogs. When I first moved here my dog had horrible allergies. He was starting to bald and his skin was inflamed. Our vet back in IL had done an allergy test but all that did was tell us what he was allergic to (which included human dander!) At West hills animal hospital they taught us about an injection that can help with his allergies. We took their advice and Otis has been allergy symptom free for a year now with no more needed injections. I adopted a senior a few years ago and whah did everything they could for her without pressuring expensive services. They understood that, while she may have benefited slightly from more expensive treatment (tumor removal, tooth removal, etc.) We didn't have the finances for more than keeping her comfy and happy. I adopted another big balding demodex infected baby a year ago and whah helped me nurse him back to his perfect healthy happy self. I love this vet and will miss bringing my babies here. Thanks everyone at whah! Read Less

We took our dog there today because he was sluggish and panting heavy. Turns out he has bladder stones and they said we needed emergency surgery. They mentioned access and vsv for places we can take him. My gf asked them to call McClave because her family has been taking pets there for 15+ years. They probably never called and told her to go to access or vsv. vsv quoted us 4800 to 6900 for the surgery. So now we are comtemplating putting our dog to sleep because of the exorbitant fees they quoted. At vsv they were trying to rush my gf into paying the low quote so as to not incur higher fees for emergency hours. Paying the lower quote didn't mean that's all we would have owed. Never ever ever take your pet to vsv unless it's life and death and no one else will see you. McClave quoted us 1700 to 2800. It seems criminal and it's very unsettling for vsv to charge 3 to 4 thousand dollars more. Needless to say I'm very unhappy with west hills animal hospital. It seems like might be getting referral bonuses or kick backs from vsv because we asked another hospital to be called and they never spoke to her about it again. I guess taking advantage of people and sending them places where they can be completely ripped off is acceptable by your clinic. How do you people sleep at night? Oh yeah you drive your luxury car home and get in your very comfortable expensive bed... Whichever reviewer mentioned used car salesperson, we wholeheartedly agree. Be careful they will prey on you because of your love for your pet. I wish there was an option for 0 stars because they don't even deserve one. Read Less

This place is AWESOME! From the  moment you walk in until the moment you cash out. The service here is a bit expensive, but I feel assured that my baby is in the right hands. My husband was a tad reluctant at first but after he saw how well they take care of Fonzi here, he couldn't argue. I owe them for getting our dogs wound to heal after a growth removal from his foot went wrong and the other vet couldn't seem to get it to heal. After that needless to say I decided to go full time with West Hills and drop the other vet for primary services. My cat has yet to be introduced, but its about that time. Either way I am most positive it will be just as great as with our dog. I'll keep ya posted! :) Read Less

We took our dog in for eye infection. The Doctor started telling us that there are so many problems with this dogs. She named so many issues and at the end said before I can tell anything about the eye infection I need to measure her eye pressure to make sure she is not developing glaucoma. Then she left the room and after more than 20 minutes, a secretary came in to go over the bill and tried to sell us an "Annual Wellness Plan" which was not going to cover that day's bill. The annual premium was for $1200 and basically covered 2 office visits per year plus vaccination and flea medication. If any other problem arises, there will be extra charge. Needless to mention that this plan has been developed by West Hills Animal Clinic. They refused to give our dog any medication for eye infection until they had the opportunity to make several tests. We paid the office visit and left, and for sure will not go back to this place.Read Less

I am a new dog owner of a senior Pomeranian chiuaiua so I can't give an excellent until I get some more experience but I was very pleased with the service. We found worms in our shelter rescue dog's feces this past week and called in for an appointment, got it this morning.  Friendly front desk, clear explanations of the possible charges and average costs for medications. $67 for exam, $65 for parasite testing, $20 for medication. Lots of treats for Kiwi to help her like being there! Overall quite happy. Read Less

Read Less

We had a terrible horrible day today. We took our princess angel to this office knowing that "her time" was close. Everyone at this office, especially Dr Gerard couldn't have been kinder. Our family was treated to such caring explanations. We were allowed time to be with her before, during, and after. The hugs and tears from the staff is not what you expect from a vet. They truly understood that our dog was so much more to us than a pet. Incredible. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart .
