Extremely disappointed yesterday at the care that I rec'd here for my senior chihuahua & just the overall posture of the group. I will not be back & will be advising all my neighbors of this. Now, to what happened. I have used this vet for 2.5 years as a secondary vet to my "kids" because their primary vet is a 40 minute drive away. Up until yesterday the care was adequate, albeit egregiously expensive. For the record, they mark up they prescription diets what appears to be 40%, & until I found chewy.com, was being taken to the cleaners. Back to the story... my senior chihuahua, Freeway, had what appears to have been two small seizures, of course, I freaked out, brought him in. When I came in I tried to explain to them that over the last year, Freeway had started exhibiting doggy dementia, to wit, he was easily agitated, would get disoriented around people he was not familiar with & in unfamiliar situations. I could not have been more clear about these facts. I had done my homework, discussed these symptoms with other people, & there is no doubt that CDD is what Freeway has. Well, they took him back, worked him up, & brought me $1000+ bill. I was stunned but not much I will not do for my "kids," so I signed it. They told me that he was agitated so they were going to sedate him a bit to try to make sure he was okay. Since I live literally 5 minutes away, figured it couldn't hurt him, I told them I needed to run home to attend to my other dog who was liking turning my living room into thunderdome, & I would be back. Well, when I went home I get a call from the vet, telling me that while everything is okay with Freeway & his bloodwork is fine, etc, that she is concerned about his disorientation & agitation. Again, I try to explain to her that that is his normal benchmark right now when it comes to people he doesn't see daily & places he is unfamiliar with. Well she clearly was too intent on trying to get a financial kickback from the neurology folks, because she went from not listening straight to alarmist mode, telling me the dog was concerning for brain lesions, probably needed a spinal tap, so on and so forth. I was stunned again. She told me they were trying to keep him sedated & to hear her talk my dog was at death's door. Well, I told her I'd be in touch shortly because right around that time my BS meter went into effect. I contacted my father, asked him to please get Freeway an appointment for our primary vet ASAP, that I was on my way. I called WHAH back & they hemmed & hawed & told me that it would take 45 minutes to prepare Freeway for transport. I flipped my beach switch at that point & I demanded to speak to the vet, told her I'm taking my dog for a second opinion & you have exactly 15 minutes to get him ready to go along with his case file. At this point suddenly realizing that my business was going to be going elsewhere for all of my animals, the backtracking started. Well, either my dog is so emergent he needs a neuro or you're so intent on getting a kickback that the only reason you even suggested a neuro in the first place was to line your pocket & now that you realize I'm taking my business elsewhere, NOW, you want to discuss medications? Clearly your original medical opinion was shady if you're switching it on a dime like that. When I got to WHAH they made me wait an additional 10 minutes for my dog. During that time I'm standing there with my business checkbook in hand, presumably with an emergent situation with my animal & the IDIOT at the register eyeballs me, checks out two other people, eyeballs me some more & THEN tells me they don't take checks. REALLY? I've been standing there for 10 minutes & NOW is when you tell me this? Thank God I had my business credit card with me because I have absolutely NO doubt that they would have held my emergent dog hostage till I went home & got it, before allowing me to transport him for his second opinion. This entire attitude is reprehensible & wholly disgusting & really makes you wonder how knackered the moral compass of this place actually is because it is clear the almighty dollar is the ONLY thing they are concerned with. I've been a client for 2.5 years I was shown absolutely zero in the way of any kind of courtesy & it was made abundantly clear to me that the only thing they saw when they looked at me or my animals was a dollar sign, either in their stupidly inflated fees, crazily marked up highway thievery insofar as script food, & the suggestions of unnecessary & dangerous tests & referrals because of the financial kickback. You people are disgusting & the bottom of the barrel in sleaze. You take advantage of people when they are at their most vulnerable & you do it for your own gain, never once thinking about anything but your pocketbook. Thankfully, my dog was not emergent. Facebook will also hear about this, as will all my rescue groups. You people are reprehensible. Read Less
