I have been a client at Hollywood cat and dog Hospital since 2002. I am amazed of how always they change my tears and fears into a smile and happiness. I am writing this review now because this time I thought It's the end of my dog's life. But after a four hours critical surgery, My dog(10 years old) now is jumbing like a puppy. If I could give this clinic minus 5 starts I would! They almost killed my dog!! I went there with a bad case of maggots and the laziest and most careless vet (I cannot recall his name but he is tall, thin, in his 60s, with glasses and thick accent) told me to take my dog to pet wash, cut his hair and come back in a week so he could treat the infection in the skin. So we went to pet wash and they refused to take my dog because maggots need to be treated first BY THE VET! I was so mad!! I called a different clinic and they asked me to bring her ASAP as that is considered a medical emergency. Thank God it was a decent clinic that care for pets. They shaved her hair, treated the wounds and hospitalized her to treat the maggots. She is back home now and recovering. If we would have waited 1 week like that careless individual said my dog WOULD BE DEAD by now. Careless!! Money hungry!! If you love your pet DO NOT take it there!!! Read Less

This a great vet! Our big girl Stella had been coming here for years and the doctor always took great care of her. Unfortunately recently Stella got really sick, she was 12. We elected to put her to rest so she no longer has to suffer. The doctor and nurse were both very companionate and comforted us while we cried. It felt like it was a family affair, since the doctor had been treating her all these years. Thank you so much for helping us through this difficult time and helping Stella move onto the next world. Misdiagnosis lead to my other cat dying:I was more than extremely let down by this vet. They misdiagnosed my cat, Wallace, from the first visit. I suspected he had fleas, but the vet said it was a food allergy. He claims he didn't see fleas. So he prescribed a food a specific food. $100 later. Both of my cats didn't like the food. Wallace was still scratching himself raw, so I scheduled to get him groomed. Once they groomed him they discovered it was fleas. Two weeks later! And another $120+ later. By this time I needed new food so I got something else and my other cat Winnie started throwing up. This went on for 5 days, as I thought it was due to the food change - and I finally took her into them. After feeling a lump in her stomach, the vet recommended x rays. I discussed doing x rays then possibly fluids since she hadn't eaten in days. They gave fluids without my permission and attempted to charge me for it. After all this I didn't trust them. Took Winnie to another vet for surgery and she passed away. She had eaten a string due to not liking the food. Not saying they caused Winnie's death, but had Wallace been properly diagnosed, I would still have my cats today. Every time I took Wallace here I left with at least a $100 bill. They always snuck shots in and charged for them. PLEASE GO ELSEWHERE. They care more about your money than your pet's well being. Read Less

I am so grateful for having Dr. Girgis and his staff as my vet for my babies!! I have been going to Dr. Girgis for 8 year for and couldn't be happier. I have two beautiful little doggies and one of them, Lola got very sick and Dr. Girgis helped save her life. Not only was he so helpful and doing everything in his power to help but he was calming me down because I was hysterically crying and worried of what might happen to my dog, but he was reassuring me that he will do everything in his power which he did to help save my dog and get her back to being healthy and running around like she was. Lola is now healthier than ever and I'm so thankful for Dr. Girgis and his staff!! I debated posting this because I don't want to give away Hollywood's best kept secret for vet and boarding needs, but I also have to give credit where it's due - Hollywood Cat and Dog is THE BEST! They are super affordable in terms of treatment and boarding. My mom took her dog here for rotten tooth removal and cleaning and they charged her 5x LESS than other vets were quoting her. Every time I leave town I board with them. My dogs are intimidating but their staff is so good with them. They are very client oriented, friendly, helpful and don't gauge you. My kitty had a fracture in his hip and needed to have a surgery. In the first place I took him too "Access animal hospital" on Jefferson they quoted me 5500$ for a surgery. I was shocked and had to look for other place . I came here and they quoted me with price almost 3 times less then in previous place . I scheduled the surgery but still was very worried and bothered them with hundreds of question but thanks god the surgery went very well and my kitty now recovering and gonna be healthy and happy cat again soon! The office could definitely use some updating in terms of decor, however the treatment and pricing was excellent. I was formerly a patient at the VCC and I paid the same amount in both places, however received far less service at VCC. To give you some perspective, I got an exam, x rays, radiology, antibiotics, and full blood panel done today. Last year at VCC I only got indoor shots and blood work for the same price! The doctor conducted a very thorough exam, was very sweet and didn't traumatize my cat. You can trust them and they won't rip you off. He absolutely has your pet's best interest in mind and will give you peace of mind and excellent care. Glad to have found them! Read Less

I have been taking my dog Harry here since I adopted him in 2012. I absolutely love this place! Firstly because of how they have treated me ... extremely nice and helpful staff. I can always get an appointment to fit my schedule with no problems, always seen on time never have to wait and always happy to answer the millions of questions I usually have! But second and most important how they are with Harry .. they always remember him and he is an extreme nervous dog. But they are great at making him feel as relaxed as possible and doing the job as quickly as possible as not to upset him. My dog Muttley will be 12 in November and needed dental work. His breath smelled horrific from bad teeth, so I had to take him to a vet. I contacted many vets and asked what it would cost for Muttley to have dental work. Some places quoted up to $8,000 and up to $5,000. I was wondering how I would ever afford to have Muttley's teeth done. I got so frustrated that I called Hollywood Cat and Dog Hospital, where my daughter takes her pets. They were able to get Muttley in quickly. I was greatly surprised to learn that his dental surgery was only $673 total. In addition, they removed a pricker from Muttley's paw, treated it and bandaged it up. I can't believe that there are people paying $8,000 for dental work on their dog. I couldn't be happier with our new vet!A helpful, friendly and knowledgeable staff and Dr. Girgis (gear-giss) is sweet, kind, compassionate. What's not to love?Okay there's the fact that they're sandwiched between two auto repair shops so they can be easy to miss. There is minimal free off street parking, but I've never not found one on the nearby cross street.Here is another BIG PLUS my Rottweiler scratched the side of her face raw requiring antibiotics in both pill and spray form. They asked for me to come back in a week, at that time they cleaned the scabbing area and put a topical antibiotic on it, FOR NO CHARGE! They didn't charge me for the follow up. I'd always been charged at my previous vet for any follow up visit.I was very impressed and I can't imagine that you won't be too if you give them a try. Read Less

Already having an older cat that is a patient there our first reaction when are 8 month old kitten was sick was to rush her there at 8:00 Saturday morning. First of all the doors don't open until about quarter after 8. Then as the 2 technicians or nurses were opening up, we pulled into the gate to tell them that our kitten was sick and we were met with the most uncaring , unsympathetic and could not give a shit attitude upset me so much I wanted to start crying. Obviously it was an emergency  and it's an animal hospital you would think that they would have a little bit more compassion. We were then told in the still couldn't give a shit tone that the doctor wouldn't be for another 30 minutes to an hour no guarantee. There was no offering of us to bring our kitten in to see what they could do or anything. Basically we were turned away without them actually saying so..... Read Less

I have very high regards for Dr. Girgis of "Hollywood Cat& Dog hospital" as well as for his entire crew. Not very often that Vets are listening in details and taking time during examination and Dr.Girgis stands out. He explained every option, is very gentle and compassionate and made both ( dog + owner) as comfortable as it can be under such circumstances. He and his staff returned my calls within a short amount of time and made sure that I call them with any questions and concerns and to report back how my pup is doing. I've been going here since 1996. They have a very caring and friendly staff. My cat was on his deathbed and Dr. Girgis diagnosed a rare disease and saved his life. My neighbor's dog had a knee operation there. He was walking on 3 legs. It took about 5 months to heal fully, but now it's 3 years later and he hasn't limped. I highly recommend.Read Less

My dog was feeling ill and I needed to take him to a vet, tried a few places and no one had any appointments available or would charge over $80 take my dog in the emergency. Hollywood Cat & Dog hospital was able to take me in without an appointment and charged me almost half the cost of the other places. I really hate going into this clinic for anything.I never really feel like the doctor or technicians are listening to what you tell them. I generally have to state the reason for the visit several times before they "find" the reason. I put "find" in quotes because, although during the visit I've told them several times why I've brought my animal in, the grandfatherly doctor (who is full of sage advice that generally comes out in long, rambling monologues) always acts like he discovered the problem with the animal. He'll also make you wait or come back for results that are meaningless. I was told on one visit, "We won't be able to treat whatever is wrong with your cat... but we should do a series of tests to see what he has..."  Wtf? You __can't__ treat it regardless of what it is and you want me to pay you to have your curiosity sated? What am I your curiosity whore?Today's visit, we're made to wait while Dr. Dentures shuffles off to the back to put a sample under the microscope to determine whether my dog's ears have a /bacterial/ infection or a /yeast/ infection. When the doctor comes back, he says its yeast but prescribes a blanket treatment for both which means that neither taking the sample, nor his Doggy CSI under the microscope actually changed anything. The medicine he ended up giving us is a general antibiotic which you would give any animal for an infection of the ears.Is this doctor out to rip you off? I don't know.Honestly, it's hard to tell if he even knows what he's doing most the time.Do yourself a favor, doc, sell the business and retire. You're not hurting anyone but yourself. Read Less

HC&DG was a blessing for me with my new adopted shelter cat. When I adopted from the East Valley animal shelter in Van Nuys, I was given a certificate to get a free vet evaluation within 1 week of the adoption date. I was lucky that this place accepts those certificates! Dr. Girges and the team are gentle, informative, and welcoming! I was able to get and change an appointment easily, and they always quoted me the price prior to doing any service, which I appreciate. I took my doggie Lucy because of Flea problems. I asked the Veterinarian about NextGard but he ended giving me Comfortis. About half an hour later from the visit, I did research on both NextGard and Comfortis, I found out Comfortis does NOT have Heartworm Prevention and NextGard would of been a better choice. I called he Veterinarian and ask to change the prescription to NextGard instead. The receptionist told me they DO NOT Carry NextGard, if I want to get it, I had to go someplace else. I said I would return the Comfortis and get my money back, The receptionist told me they WERE NOT giving me my money back, the only thing they could do was to credit my account for future visits. So, the veterinarian just sold me something he knew was not the best choice but wanted to sell me something any ways and just make money before prescribing NextGard which he can't make money because he does not sells it and still thinks that I want to come back for future visits??? If he had been an honest person he would of prescribed NextGuard even thought he does not sells it. He can keep the 3 month Comfortis medication he prescribed and my money. I WILL NEVER come back to a liar and greedy veterinarian. I should of believed the other bad review.Read Less

Excellent animal care service and very affordable! My cat had an ingrown claw, called ahead and asked to schedule an appointment, they told me to just come in as it would take only a few minutes. When I got in, someone was there to open the door for me. The cat was seen right away. The vet trimmed the affected claw, checked the wound for infection, and offered to trim the other claws while he was at it. The whole thing took less than 15 mins and cost me $11.50! Read Less

I was in a panic this morning when I noticed that my Himalayan had two ingrown claw nails on her feet. I called a few places and came across them - and am glad I did!  They were able to take her in today, were extremely polite and were very quick! Price was extremely reasonable and I'm so relieved that my cat is ok. I will be taking her back every few months to make sure they are constantly trimmed.
