Very poor handling of a UTI that turned out to be quite serious. We had 2 urine cultures and still an antibiotic was prescribed that has been proven to be ineffective against ESBL. It was even printed on the sheet from the lab. There was actually a list from the lab that was very clear showing what was effective and what was not. Yet still an ineffective antibiotic was chosen??? By the time I pointed this out it was too late. Read Less

If you value your pet as a family member, forget Laurel Pet Hospital. My recent experience with them was when I had to euthanize my 60 pound senior dog and they were going to process the cremation. As I'm grieving, they took all the information they needed to process him. They didn't give me a time when I'd receive him, but talking with friends, they said easily a couple weeks to a month, maybe longer with covid. So a month passed, then I was anticipating his arrival soon. Two more weeks went by and I started to get concerned. When I finally contacted LPH, almost two months to the day, they said they had no ashes for my dog and that I should contact the crematory for faster results. Really? I should contact them? I put him in your care… So I called the crematory and they had no information on my dog. They told me that they've been to LPH several times since my dogs passing. I called the vet back horrified that my dog was lost. The crematory found out that my dog had been sitting in the LPH freezer for two months. LPH forgot to process my dog. So, I called back to LPH and spoke with the administrator. How do you not know that you have a dog in your freezer that needs attention? She said they forgot to fill out the card for a pickup for the crematory. But don't worry, we got it all squared away, it's been corrected and the crematory now has my dog. Really? All squared away? Fuming I asked them to pay for the services due to their error in handling my pet. They treated the whole process like it was no big deal and refused to pay. I didn't even get a "we're so sorry that we messed up" from them. So, as you may like a vet in LPH, the organization is geared to make money with no empathy of your concerns or pets needs… Behind the scenes, their operation is a disaster. Read Less

I write this review in hope that it saves others from the pain that Laurel Pet Hospital has caused me. Within 4 hours of being treated for non-life threatening diarrhea, my beloved 12 year old dog, Daisy, was DEAD. After giving Daisy the antibiotics prescribed by Dr. Bouganim, I rushed her back in for what was obvious to me a drug reaction( she vomited and had labored breathing) For some reason, Dr. B thought it would be a good idea to add more drugs to her system and gave her an anti nausea shot. Upon returning to me in the waiting room, Daisy could hardly stand. She vomited, collapsed and went into seizures. She was revived briefly, but more seizures led to cardiac arrest and death. Dr. B offered me a free postmortem x-ray, found nothing and started throwing around a theory that Daisy had a brain tumor(you can’t X-ray the brain) To add insult to injury, I was charged nearly $1000 for the whole ordeal. Over a week later I had a meeting with Dr. B and the office manager to gain some clarity on what happened. Nothing was mentioned about a brain tumor...they were now floating a theory that Daisy’s blood pressure had dropped the second time she threw up (a reaction to the anti nausea shot that she arguably didn’t need) and she had a stroke. The office manager had his arms crossed the entire meeting but they both agreed with the statement that Daisy would likely still be alive if I had NEVER BROUGHT HER THERE. We loosely discussed a partial refund, but at the end of the day, there’s no amount of money that will bring my best friend back or rectify this situation. Please think twice before entrusting these people with your pet’s care. This was Laurel Pet’s first time treating Daisy and I whole heartedly believe their overly aggressive treatment caused her death. Read Less

I have been going to Laurel Pet Hospital off and on for the past 5 years since moving into the neighborhood, and I have never experienced more inconsistent and careless service and attention to my pet.I boarded my dog there several times early on, and she came back a virtual basket case every time. I found out that they spend a total of 20 min a day outside of their tiny cages, and then they are left in their cages, unattended for the rest of the day. 10 min walk in the morning, 10 minute walk at night.Several times I scheduled an appointment several days in advance (for everything from a routine vaccination, to a check up, to a regular dog illness) and the majority of the time I would not be brought back into an exam room until a good 15-20 minutes after my appointment time (after they ask you to show up 10-15 min early). So by this time I have been there for 30 minutes, 15 minutes over my scheduled appointment time, and then we'll sit in the exam room for sometimes upwards of 45 minutes! So a scheduled check up that should take 15-20 minutes total, turns into a stressful, 90 minute ordeal. No apologies, no checking in on us, just shoulder shrugs and a "f-off" attitude. The front desk help is rarely helpful. They grunt and mumble, blather on about their personal lives, and office gossip in front of customers and patients, and all in all pay little attention to what they should actually be doing. The final straw that broke the camel's back? Last Tuesday I called in and spoke to the operator and informed them that my dog had been suffering from diarrhea for a few days and that the chicken and rice diet was not helping her. They said I could bring her in on Thursday morning to see Dr. Todd. Since I was the 2nd patient/customer of the day we were thankfully only held back 5 min past our scheduled appointment time and Dr. Todd got to our exam room in short order. He examined her, was professional, and frankly one of the better Vets I have interacted with there. He set her up with a prescription and said if I don't see improvement in a couple days to bring in a stool sample. So come Sunday morning she hadn't improved so I got the sample and took it into the office at 8am Sunday morning. She was literally unlocking the front door as we arrived. Dropped the sample off. Sunday, Monday went by and no call. Tuesday afternoon arrived and still no word so I called the vet and asked for a status update. The operator put me on hold for a few minutes and came back and said the sample had been sent in on Monday (not Sunday when I dropped it off at 8am.) and to try back on Wednesday for an update. Okay. So I call back today (Wednesday, 6/28) at 1 pm. Operator puts me on hold and says nothing back from the lab but she will investigate and call me back. 10 minutes later I get a call and the operator informs me that SURPRISE! The lab doesn't have the sample, it never arrived. But Laurel Pet Hospital is CERTAIN they sent it in. So somewhere between the Pet Hospital and The Lab, my dog's turd vanished. I'm hoping these people didn't eat it at this point, but I wouldn't be surprised if they had.So there you have it. If you want horrible customer service, a stressed out dog, and careless medical attention for your pet, than the SUPER OVERPRICED Laurel Pet Hospital is for you. If you want the care you'd naturally expect from a pet hospital, I don't know what to tell you, because I haven't found one in West Hollywood. Open to suggestions.I hope someone from LPH reads this and takes it to heart. You have absolutely atrocious customer service and terrible practices. Refunding me the money does not help my dog who continues to be sick and suffer because of the careless and irresponsible practices of this third rate organization. Thankfully you have celebrities who are completely divorced from their pet's day to day realities to pump money at a place like this to keep it open and employing these low quality providers of mediocre to poor pet care. On March 28th my dog had a freak accident while I was walking her around the Pacific Design Center resulting in her nail bleeding quite profusely. My regular veterinarian is located in Echo Park but given the injury I didn't want to waste even a minute for Char to be looked at and cared for. That is why I ended up stopping at the Laurel Pet Hospital. I was informed right away that since I wasn't a client, examination would cost $98. I  of course agreed -all that mattered to me was the well being of dog- and the receptionist seemed annoyed at the fact that a new file had to be started for me. While she was getting together the paperwork I would have to fill out (she was interrupted so it wasn't instantaneous) I went and sat down because I had been CARRYING my 32 lbs dog this entire time (and when you're 5"4-118lbs a dog that size becomes heavy very fast regardless of your love for them). When a couple of minutes later the receptionist had gathered all the paperwork she extended her arm over the counter waiting for me to get up  to get them. It never occurred to her that she could go around and bring them directly to me- or it did but it was just too much trouble for her; just like the paperwork. I got up with difficulty; cradling Char and my purse spilled resulting in my dog being even more anxious; I wasn't physically able to handle her in a smooth manner like I would have wanted to. That girl showed no sign of concern, empathy nor did she try to help me. I grabbed the clipboard she handed me and figured out the rest; same thing happened once I had filled out the paperwork. When it was my turn to see the veterinarian I shared with him my concern for how much it was going to cost me and he said we were going to work something out. He told me he would charge me "only $50" for the sedation (which for your information is what a lot of places charge) and although he was nice I couldn't shake the feeling he was in it for the money and should have specialized in plastic surgery. I left my dog for the minor procedure and came back 30 minutes later. It took longer than estimated but I didn't mind too much as I'd rather wait longer and have the job be well done. When Char came out she had the cutters purple glittery wrap around her paw; everybody around melted. I was told to take the bandage off the following day and that there was no medication to give her because they had done an injection. I paid and left. The following day I took the bandage off with difficulty: it had pus and blood and it looked far too early for the wound to be unprotected. But that's what I had been told to do so I assumed it was normal: after all I'm not the professional; they are. Or they are SUPPOSED to be. The following days Char started limping more and more until she wouldn't even put her paw down when walking and kept licking it over and over again. I brought her to my regular veterinarian who told me that paw injuries were incredibly painful; she definitely should have been prescribed antibiotics and pain medecine and she should have had a bandage on her paw for about a week. He treated, cleaned and bandaged her paw and sent me on my way with two types of pills to give Char for a week. With my purchase of a flea pill, the two prescriptions, the procedure, sedation and bandaging of the paw my bill was the same price than the one I had gotten  from Laurel Pet Hospital a few days before. Except this time my dog DID get better. And no, the bandage my veterinarian used was not purple but it served its purpose which is ALL I was asking for. Needless to say that I will be contesting the credit card charge: it is one thing to overcharge and be rude- I would have overlooked both those things and not wrote a review had their services been satisfactory- but because I had to go back to the veterinarian for the EXACT same procedure and that the result of their  incompetence caused my dog additional pain; I will not let it go. They never called back I had to call them multiple times for three days to get an answer which was that the test they ran doesn't test for tape worms. So they just scammed me out of $50. Like other reviewers, I have repeatedly taken my dogs there multiple times to be told nothing is wrong and be billed a lot of money for it.
