We rescue dogs and cats and have dealt with Veterinarians in Texas, Arizona and throughout California! We have NEVER been charged a 667% markup (based on the CVS Pharmacy pricing) by ANY respectable and ethically practicing Veterinarian.
Makes me question the other billing practices of this organization which lists the following as their principles:
– Quality (They don't return calls and also place you on hold for very long periods of time ... to the point the calls drop and of course they don't call you back)
– Integrity (Taking advantage of pet owners in need who want to do right by their pets, and charge them unethical/excessive pricing ... I understand they’re in business to make a profit, but it all should be within reason. I’m sure their CEO, Howard Liberson, learned the importance of being ethical in business at Wharton’s Business School.)
– Compassion (I would rate them a C+ for compassion ... I think they're too BIG and don't make an effort in the hiring of compassionate staff; some care and some do not. It is unfortunate that the staff who do not care make it very obvious.)
– Service (I took our dog Rosie to ACCESS around 10pm due to repeated seizures. I waited about two hours to talk to a doctor while the staff took Rosie in the back for observation. When I finally got to speak to a doctor around midnight, she was unaware whether or not Rosie had seized while in their care. She then gave me an estimate of $1,400.00 to $2,100.00 to keep my dog there for 24 HR observation. I decided to leave with my dog and of course was charged $79 for a recheck emergency examination. Also – this doctor never called the following day to follow-up. Exceptional service??)
It should be noted that I called ACCESS this morning to try to address the above and various other concerns. The receptionist put me on hold, but after several minutes the phone disconnected and no, they never called me back.
Lastly, we’ve spent $5,400.00 at this Specialty Animal Hospital since January 2nd, 2018 and Rosie is no better. After 2 MRIs, 1 Spinal Tap, several blood tests and changes in medication she still has seizures. The ACCESS neurologist recommended the initial MRI to determine the cause of Rosie’s seizures, which he concluded was a sizable brain tumor. After months of continued seizures, the neurologist recommended a second MRI to assess the growth of the tumor. This second MRI showed no tumor at all, which means we got a misdiagnosis and still no REAL answers as to why Rosie is still having seizures. (The spinal tap supposedly ruled out epilepsy.)
Needless to say, we’ve changed veterinarians. Read Less
