Took my cat in for an allergic reaction to flea medication. When they spoke to me about the bill, they estimated $1800 to $3000 for having my cat spend the night in ICU, on fluids which was unnecessary. I took my cat back home. I still ended up spending $344 for the visit. I felt the Vet had over-exaggerated on the cats prognosis to make $$. I have had experiences at vets where the Doctors seem fresh out of school, as the techs.. and it's way overpriced. this is one of them.....The cat is doing good now. Read Less

Unethical pricing! Access Specialty Animal Hospitals - San Fernando Valley, CA 4/13/2018 - Clorazepate 7.5mg Tablets, Qty 30 - PAID $106.35 CVS Pharmacy - Saugus, CA 6/6/2018 - Clorazepate 7.5mg Tablets, Qty 30 - PAID $15.93 We rescue dogs and cats and have dealt with Veterinarians in Texas, Arizona and throughout California! We have NEVER been charged a 667% markup (based on the CVS Pharmacy pricing) by ANY respectable and ethically practicing Veterinarian. Makes me question the other billing practices of this organization which lists the following as their principles: – Quality (They don't return calls and also place you on hold for very long periods of time ... to the point the calls drop and of course they don't call you back) – Integrity (Taking advantage of pet owners in need who want to do right by their pets, and charge them unethical/excessive pricing ... I understand they’re in business to make a profit, but it all should be within reason. I’m sure their CEO, Howard Liberson, learned the importance of being ethical in business at Wharton’s Business School.) – Compassion (I would rate them a C+ for compassion ... I think they're too BIG and don't make an effort in the hiring of compassionate staff; some care and some do not. It is unfortunate that the staff who do not care make it very obvious.) – Service (I took our dog Rosie to ACCESS around 10pm due to repeated seizures. I waited about two hours to talk to a doctor while the staff took Rosie in the back for observation. When I finally got to speak to a doctor around midnight, she was unaware whether or not Rosie had seized while in their care. She then gave me an estimate of $1,400.00 to $2,100.00 to keep my dog there for 24 HR observation. I decided to leave with my dog and of course was charged $79 for a recheck emergency examination. Also – this doctor never called the following day to follow-up. Exceptional service??) It should be noted that I called ACCESS this morning to try to address the above and various other concerns. The receptionist put me on hold, but after several minutes the phone disconnected and no, they never called me back. Lastly, we’ve spent $5,400.00 at this Specialty Animal Hospital since January 2nd, 2018 and Rosie is no better. After 2 MRIs, 1 Spinal Tap, several blood tests and changes in medication she still has seizures. The ACCESS neurologist recommended the initial MRI to determine the cause of Rosie’s seizures, which he concluded was a sizable brain tumor. After months of continued seizures, the neurologist recommended a second MRI to assess the growth of the tumor. This second MRI showed no tumor at all, which means we got a misdiagnosis and still no REAL answers as to why Rosie is still having seizures. (The spinal tap supposedly ruled out epilepsy.) Needless to say, we’ve changed veterinarians. Read Less

IF YOUR LOVE YOUR ANIMAL STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. They are thieves and sadly don't know what they are doing after they take your money and charge you 3x the normal rates. They take advantage of people and their love and emotion for the animal. My dog has been there for 2 days and I have been billed over $4800 in charges with no real diagnosis or resolution. Keep in mind she has not had a procedure. This is just for blood/urine test and an ultrasound. They hire a bunch of vets out of college who really don't know what they are doing and just take your $$$ at triple the rate w/out proper treatment for animal and take advantage of your emotions. My dog still has a fever and is suffering. All they can do is bill me. Go somewhere that can give you real help. They are all about the money not the wellness of my dog that is my family. Read Less

This place was so amazing. I took my dog Saki in late last night because of an ingrown nail. I was worried about her and felt like a horrible dog mom for not having noticed her nail before it got so out of hand. The check in process was quick, simple, and everyone was so nice. A vet came and collected my Saki puff immediately, when they took her back and put her in a kennel to wait to be seen she got too scared so they brought her back to wait with us in the waiting room. We waited for about an hour and a half before she was called back to be seen but I never have a problem with waiting. I’d much rather wait a while knowing that they’re showing the care and attention every dog needs including mine than them doing a half ass job and not caring. I couldn’t have been more happy with the service they provided last night. They were kind, helpful, walked me through all the after care, was EXTREMELY well priced (everything cost $195 without insurance) and did not make me feel guilty for her nail at all. Update: I had to take her in the next day because she had chewed off the bandage. This place is seriously amazing! NO RE-EXAMINATION FEE!! All i had to pay for was the cone to keep her from licking and then a new anti-inflammatory as the swelling still hadn't gone down. Total was $28 to bring her back. This place is so amazing! I brought my elderly cat in in the middle of the night. Unfortunately, the prognosis was not good. But the doctor, the front desk staff, and the nurses were extremely kind, knowledgeable, and honest in their medical assessment. The doctor answered my questions kindly and with great compassion for me and for my sweet little cat. They could have gouged me with costs, and I know they used equipment I was not charged for. Furthermore, as I was there, I could hear when the staff would announce that there was a triage situation. Having, once many years ago, had a pet in a triage situation at an emergency vet where we had to wait our turn, I appreciated their level of responsiveness to animals. It was a difficult night for me, but I left knowing I got the right diagnosis and confident that we made the right decisions. Thank you to everyone at Access. Read Less

This place is owned by Vet's and that makes a difference. They are compassionate, professional, warm, and REAL! I was very impressed with how personable and patient the whole staff is from front office to Doctor's - they want you and your pet to be comfortable and informed. They are a specialty 24 hour hospital - I have my local vet who's wonderful, but this place was truly awesome when our dog came down with something beyond my regular vet's ability. Their prices are comparable to other vet's and we walked in as an emergency patient. I thought the prices would be through the roof because of the emergency care, but it wasn't as expensive as I thought it was going to be. (Mind you ,all vet care is expensive - but our bill was in the realm of what all vet's charge) Read Less

I had a great experience for coming in at 1 am with my pup for an emergency & the staff were so great & helpful. Yes pricey, but with pet insurance my trip will cost me close to nothing. Pet insurance alone is around $25-$40 a month for full coverage. Think about it, do your research. Thank you so much guys!!!!! Read Less

Our pup's face swelled up at 7pm on Wednesday night last week.  It looked like he was having an allergic reaction to something!!!  Although he was acting normal, this symptom alone is worrisome as it can lead to swelling in the throat, causing a blockage to breathing.   Our regular vet closed at 5, back-up vet closed at 7.   So I looked for a nearby emergency vet and found one in Granada Hills and two in Woodland Hills.  So I called Granada and got the ok to bring him in right away.   They quoted me a $58 for the office visit while both the emergency vets in Woodland Hills quoted $105 for the initial office visit.   My hubby drove our pup to Granada Hills and then 15 minutes later he called me defeated.   Granada Hills turned him away as they were too busy!!!!  Since pup was stable we debated our next move trying to be economical.  I called a 24 hour vet that we recently used in Newhall knowing that an office visit is $49 there.  They also refused to see him due to them being busy and stating that for emergencies they have a radius on who they serve!!! Now with the back story presented, I told my hubby to just take the dog to Access emergency vet in Woodland Hills bracing myself for a pricey bill.  It ended up being a sting inside his mouth.  The stinger was so tiny that I never would have found it if I looked.  Pup was in pain so I'm not sure how they opened his mouth to inspect that closely and remove the tiny stinger.  Once they treated him with two injectables to reduce swelling using Benadryl, they released him with a prescription for more Benadryl (although they advised we could give him OTC Benadryl from any pharmacy we choose to purchase from them).   Hubby commented that he was impressed that as soon as he arrived that the staff took the dog in the back to be looked at and my hubby waited to see a doctor.   So although hubby had to wait, the dog was treated immediately or at least assessed for critical symptoms.  For this reason, my hubby would return should emergency services ever be needed again. All in all it was a very positive experience for both pup and my hubby lasting just under 2 hours and costing us $180.  We were very pleased that although expensive, it was much less than we were bracing ourselves for! Let me break it down for you.$140 to see a specialist on a weekend (even though they're open 24 hours) $227 for lab work$425 for an ultrasound$250 for X-ray So $1,042. Then they found that our pup has a block in his small intestine and they need to remove it and estimated $4,000-6,000 for surgery and because the doctor wasn't on location and needed to be called to come in they wanted to charge an additional fee of $600 labeled "Specialist and Surgical Tech Call In Fee." They even had us sign a consent form saying if our pup needed CPR, we were authorizing them to perform it...for an additional $200-300 with aftercare costing $2,000-3,000!!! So estimated to cost between $5,600-8,150. We said we can't afford it and they suggested that we at least keep our dog there overnight and gave us another estimate for an additional $600, including $100-300 for miscellaneous expenses. I was impressed when I walked in because the facility looks very presentable but instead of low to normal costs on actual pet care, they gave out lots of free unnecessary items, soda, coffee, instead of focusing on what actually matters which is our pets.   A lot of smoke and mirrors to make this place seem like they care about your animal more than making money. I took my maltipoo who had suffered a trauma to his back. He was not walking on his hind legs and appeared to have no sensation. They took him back at 8:00 am to take his vitals. Three hours later Dr. McQuitty comes and begins to aggressively push for immediate surgery. I asked if she had given him any fluids or anti-inflammatories. She said no. When I asked to see the xrays, she informed me that none had been taken, but that she'd have a neurologist consult with me. Dr. Schwartz also pushed for surgery without the benefit of an exray or any deep tissue stimulation to check for muscle response. When I told him I was going to take him for a second opinion, he suddenly asked if we wanted an xray. I told him we had been there for FIVE hours and it was now too late for an xray since we had a 2:00 appointment across town. I asked for anti-inflammatory and pain medication. Although, he agreed to give my pup meds to make him comfortable, neither he or the attending vet did so. When I asked for the records for that day, I was assured they would be emailed to me. Today is Day 8, and I have yet to receive his medical records. By the way, my pup has regained the sensation in both legs, is urinating again on his own, and is trying to stand on his back legs. Pain & anti-inflammatory medications together with acupuncture and massage are providing slow, but steady results. If you love your pet, take him/her elsewhere. Read Less

The team of doctors, specialists , the techs, and the counter staff were beyond professional and knowledgeable. I have been there with my very old blind 1 toothed cat "monkey" with enlarged heart among other ailments. We have been there in July when I thought I would loose him over a very bad infection through out his body. The team at ACCESS saved him. Dr Cole, Dr Hadar, and every one of our friends there had their hand in the treatment. I was so scared but everyone there had compassion and straight talk about the next steps. I appreciate that. Last month I needed to go back in as an ER case to help monkey breathe better. DR. Andrew Cruikshank was able to drain enough from his lungs to make him comfortable. We will be seeing him again tomorrow. I know monkey is in great hands at ACCESS. I can only dream that if I ever become sick that I would have a team of drs at Kaiser, like Monkey's team at ACCESS!! These are the nicest people who understand the connection between a family and their pet, and also have the knowledge to provide the best care. This last week I had to go to them when my 8 month old kitten began to decline in health rapidly after a diagnosis of FIP, a fatal disease. Instead of doing what my regular vet did which was tell me to just put him down, the doctors here went into detail what our options where and how much medicines and treatments would help or not. When I asked the doctor if she was me, what would she do, she gave me her honest answer. We struggled with the decision to let our little buddy go, but knew it was best for him. But it didn't end here, they provided us many options for how much or little we wanted to be involved with his last moments, as well as what we wanted for him afterwards. They allowed us to spend as much time as we wanted in a private room with him to say our goodbyes, and hold him while as he fell asleep. The doctor cried with us, showing the compassion and heart the people that work in this facility have. The nurses also provided us a complimentary clay impression of our kitten's paw prints. It was touching and so helpful to have a staff that cared so much about the animals and people they came across.Read Less
