I was referred to VCG from my regular vet-to get a second opinion on my beloved dog's cancer prognosis and their opinion on treatment. When we brought Austin in, we were hoping for a miracle.  We could have been taken advantage of-we were desperate for any chance we could give him. I will update this review with the vet's name-at this moment, I cannot remember her name. I just remember her empathy and kindness when she told us that our dog was dying, the cancer in his stomach was too large to remove and there was very little chance of him surviving surgery, if we even tried to remove part of it to give him just a little more time. Our daughters were out of town, and would be back in two days-so they gave us medication that would temporarily reduce the cancer and pain meds to make him comfortable so that we could say goodbye to our dear and much loved dog together. The medication helped him be comfortable as we waited-and when they came back home, we gave Austin a double dose and took him and our other two dogs to the beach for a wonderful last day together. Our beloved dog had a glorious and pain free last day. That was back in January-and I am only now able to write this review. The 4 stars instead of the 5 is honestly because there was a very bad communication error with the staff and vet-and when we went to pick up our last doses of medication, we were given conflicting information and instructions that caused an extra 1.5 hours of unnecessary suffering for Austin while he waited for us to get the right dosage back to the house. But the empathy and kindness that the vet showed my dog and family during our visit was much appreciated. Sadly, our little dog's cancer recheck appointment with Dr. Kang at this clinic did not go well. Dr Kang, did not read the Xrays, Blood work, or Radiologists Report, or forward them to us. The report clearly stated that our dog, although without signs of cancer, had bilateral broncho pneumonia and should be treated. The Dr. told us "everything looks fine", that his 20% total body weight loss, vomiting and lethargy was due to "not enough food" and that I "watched my dog like a hawk". She sent us away perplexed, sad and without any diagnosis or care recommendations to help him get back to normal. We were happy that cancer had not returned. Little did we know we left with a very sick dog. 3 weeks later our dog collapsed in his own vomit and nearly died due to the progression of the untreated pneumonia. 5 days of emergency care: 1 day at regular vet, then 1 day at emerg vet in La Quinta, then dog ambulance to 3 days ICU care at California Veterinary Specialists in Ontario, and 3 months of continued care was the only reason he survived. The only good thing that came out of this is that the Dr. took full responsibility for her mistake. Unfortunately Little Blue now has permanent scarring in his lungs due to the damage caused by the pneumonia. He is not the same dog. However, he is still with us, a love and a joy, and he still enjoys shorter walks and sniffing at the dog park. Please take our advice and ALWAYS get the lab results and radiologists report sent to you directly and immediately. If it does not come, call to remind them to send it to you. Look at the information carefully and ask questions. Forward it yourself to all to your veterinarians. Make SURE they ALL look at the reports and get back to you immediately. It may save your dog's life.Read Less

I'm almost 15 and have had bladder cancer for just over a year now. I first saw Dr. Turner for chemotherapy and now Dr. Lyons for radiation. They really make it as easy as they can here for pups like me, and for my human parents. During the chemo treatments, a vet tech sits on the floor next to me and pets me, to help me feel relaxed. For the radiation treatments, since I am such a well behaved gentleman, I get to hang out and socialize with other dogs who are also there waiting for radiation treatments. It makes things a lot less scary, and less like a hospital. Mom is glad she chose VCG for my treatment. They are nice to her too, and always prompt to call back when she has a question. My regular vet referred us to Veterinary Cancer Group of San Fernando Valley when she diagnosed my 5 year old lab with lymphoma. I had done a lot of research between diagnosis and our consultation with VCR. I knew we were in for a huge expense. When we arrived we were nervous and upset. The front desk staff, Tomas was so understanding and friendly. The location is clean and inviting. We were taken into a private room which was comfortable and didn't feel sterile or medical. We met Dr Wiles who had the best bedside manner to both the dog and the humans. She explained the test results, the treatment options, and answered all of our questions as she sat with the dog getting to know her. Of course the estimate was way more than we could afford. The staff worked with us to get to a place where we felt comfortable but that our baby would get the treatment she needed. Lymphoma is a long treatment and we have been there for 5 months. The vet techs at VCG are as great as Dr. Wiles. They are friendly and warm. They always come out to greet our dog and she actually loves to go and see all her "friends " and I'm sure the treats don't hurt. VCG always works with our schedule, is easy to contact, and makes ever effort to make our experience as good as it can be. In all her treatments they never try to up sell us or give her medications or visits that aren't needed. I wish I didn't need VCG but I am so thankful that we found it. If you find yourself needing an oncologist for your pet, I would not hesitate to recommend Veterinary Cancer  Group of San Fernando Valley. Read Less

Had a very disappointing experience with them and will seek out other options for my dogs. The place felt in transition, without direction and did not keep us posted. Not very compassionate nor effective about giving us our options when we found out our boy had inoperable cancer. We recently needed a ultrasound for our 15 year old girl and although probably more expensive, went to VCA. Will avoid them unless there is no other option. Read Less

I was referred to Veterinary Cancer Group for by are regular veterinarian after our dog had a malignant tumor removed and further tests were recommended. For convenience I went to the Woodland Hills location. The facility is top notch, very professional and clean.  My experience with Dr. Rosenberg couldn't have been better.  She clearly explained the diagnosis and options for treatment.  She has a much better bedside manner than the majority of doctors for humans I have encountered.Hopefully you won't need their services, but if you have a pet diagnosed with cancer you'll be glad the Veterinary Cancer Group is there to help you. I have nothing good to say about the Veterinary Cancer Group of San Fernando Valley. I am directing this to Reuben at Yelp & to VCG. This review better remain in place. First, Reuben! My beloved dog was a patient at this facility, I would not give them one star, but you can't write if a star is not placed. Reuben, don't talk where you don't know what transpired! I expect my review to be placed back on Yelp. I tried emailing you, but it does not allow you to email. My beloved dog was carelessly taken care of by the Veterinary Cancer Group of San Fernando Valley, & things this facility did were unprofessional, as well as, ACCESS. I spent thousands of dollars between ACCESS & this facility, not counting the other specialist that work out of ACCESS. My dog was loving, cute, sweet, loyal, a family member & companion. She was fourteen years old! She was put through major surgery for a spay, removing all her mammary glands, a so called growth in her vaginal wall. I question Dr. Norris on all of this. Dr. Rosenberg, Dr. Ganz, the ACCESS Emergency doctor on the early morning when I had to rush my girl in because of her distress & suffering. She developed major problems from her third chemo, which I decided was her last. I think she was having problems right along. She could not walk, "she did not have old dog vestibular" and this was starting way before the third treatment. She was showing signs of bruising on the outside, I could go on! I am appalled that a Cushing's test was not done before surgery! a biopsy was not done before surgery! According to Dr. Norris she had stage 1 malignant cancer which was suppose to be non-invasive, and the growth in her vaginal wall was benign, "another vet checked and said there was no growth in her vaginal wall. What this facility put my dog through, & the bed side manner of the technicians at the cancer group. They practically throw the dog at you, & where is the doctor to get feed back on her progress, where were the supplements? No, I would not have done the surgery! No, I would not have done the chemotheraphy! No, I would never ever go back to these veterinarians! My poor dog/family member had enlarged organs, heart, liver, adrenal glands. I took her to another vet, they did tests & x-rays. I was shown her x-rays, her cancer was in her lungs, all her organs were so enlarged, & the liver removes toxins from the body, she couldn't get rid of the toxins or chemo with all that she had wrong. I believe surgery caused the cancer to spread. I always heard that when cancer is detected & air hits it there is no hope because it does spread. I feel there was careless diagnosis, prognosis and I would never put a loving companion through this treatment. I will have to live with what I did to my beloved friend. I can not apologize enough to her. Financially I will be paying for this for some time. The vet made me think she would be okay after surgery. I feel they prey on peoples emotions because we love our pets. The veterinarians don't know themselves what is wrong with an animal. Very poor diagnosis results for a large facility. She had five or six doctors look at her and it was low potassium from Lasix, and old dog vestibular, and keep on doing the chemo, but a different drug. My girl was in bad shape. why put a dog through this. She had a terrible reaction from chemo. Her surgery was June 18, 2014, she went downhill, the surgery was not good. The chemo just broke her body down. She would have been better off not having the surgery, but she would not have been able to go to the bathroom. She was dying when I was taking her to an appointment at another vet, & to ease her death I had her put to sleep. October 15, 2014. She was a great dog & friend & her too cute ways are so missed.  I am saying this to anyone considering using ACCESS, VCG or any veterinarian. Check them & their backgrounds carefully. Get the whole picture. I feel the specialist working from ACCESS are just trying to build up a business at the expense of our pets. Seek a veterinarian who is honest & will level with you, and understand your financial situation & your heart & not play on your emotions & take money from you when there is nothing that can be done, and to ruin an animals life and make them suffer when there is no hope & just to extend your pets life for a few months. What good is it to put an animal through this hell! These doctors need to get real, be honest and level with the owners. Don't give people false hope. Our pets are a victim of this terrible disease. My dog was an experiment, and I am so sorry this happened to her. I question cancer treatment for an animal who can't voice how it feels about having this done. To let a defenseless animal go thru this. I was so Blessed and Lucky to have been graced with such a sweet little dog. Do what is right for them, not you! Get a second and third opinion. Don't let them suffer. If a dog needs drugs for nausea, and other side effects they are not living a good life Read Less

Let me just start off by giving you a small background of what happened before we were introduced to this horrible lieing vet clinic. Our dog had a mass on her hind leg. Our vet did a aspiration (cost $150.00) of the tumor and it came back spindle cell tumor. We were referred to the Animal Cancer clinic to see their oncologist at the West Hills location. Their oncologist recommended we drop her off the next day with no food or water for 12 hrs before dropping her off (since they would have to sedate her to do this procedure) so they could take a core biopsy of the tumor so that they could determine exactly what kind of cancer we were dealing with and how aggressive it was. So we went ahead and did this and spent close to $3,000 for this to be done. When we picked her up her leg was wrapped and we were told she had stitches that would need to be removed a few days later. When it came day to have them removed they took our dog into the back and said they supposedly remove the stitches and they re wrapped her leg. When results came back they gave us NO OTHER INFORMATION  of the type of cancer she had other than what we already knew. Spindle cell tumor. We asked for a copy of the full report and thats when we noticed they had done a needle biopsy(which is basically a aspiration, and something that they knew had already been done by our vet ) of the tumor and charged us almost 2,000 alone for the procedure. This was NOT what we were told by the oncologist that they would be doing. They lied to us, led us to believe that we were paying for a core biopsy of the tumor, but they only performed a needle biopsy(aka an aspiration)and charged us close to 2,000 dollars for a procedure that should have only cost $150.00 and something that had already been done and they knew it had already been done. They prey off peoples emotions while going through the difficult time of finding out their beloved pet has cancer. If you have cancer like me, it's a good place to be. Read Less
