We called At Home and At Peace because our 11 year old dog, Madison, was struggling with her hind legs - we figured it was due to arthritis and age. When we called, we spoke with a wonderful lady named Amber who was very engaging, helpful and kind. She answered all of our questions and was able to get us an appointment for the following day. Later that same day, the vet, Dr. Janie called and asked some more questions about Madison and answered a few more questions that we had. Dr. Janie texted us a few minutes before she arrived so I was able to corral the other dogs outside, which was very helpful. She watched Madison walk around and sat with her until she relaxed and laid down. She brought some delicious treats for Madison (who loved, loved, loved them!) and it kept Madison distracted while she started her exam and acupuncture. The acupuncture took about 20 minutes and Madison was a happy camper with her treats the whole time. While she was here, Dr. Janie and I also discussed medication for Madison, which she called in as soon as she left our house. After the acupuncture, Madison laid on her other side, which she does not normally do and she was able to jump up quicker. It was a great experience for Madison and for us! At Home and At Peace was very reasonably priced and it was wonderful having them come to the house so we did not have to deal with the stress of a car ride and vet's office. If you are reading this, I know you are in a very difficult place. Wherever you are, I hope soon you will find peace and understanding. I know you are also worried about your pet, and potentially also about what will happen to his/her body, and who will take care of them, so I am taking the time to write this review, and reassure you that Dr. Janie will take the best care of your pet. Dr. Janie is an exceptional vet with a huge heart, and she uses a pet crematorium whom I have since researched intensively. They are respectful and kind, so let this be one less worry at the moment.  One of the most difficult things I've had to do is decide to end the suffering of my little kitty, who had large-cell lymphoma, a disease with a terrible prognosis. I owed it to him to make his passing as easy as possible, to repay the innumerable times he comforted us when we were sad or sick. Unfortunately, his lymphoma progressed quickly, so I frantically called as many vets as possible, and Dr. Janie was the first available. We called the night before, and she arrived promptly at 9am the next morning. She was thoughtful enough to text us right before she left, and told us about how long it would take for her to arrive. I really appreciated that, as we could really spend all our energies comforting Uly, instead of waiting on someone. Dr. Janie was so kind, and so empathetic when she arrived. I could see that she truly had room in her heart for all pets and their guardians. I appreciate that she got payment out of the way in an unobtrusive manner right at the beginning, so that it wouldn't be an awkward thing hanging over our heads later. I was also touched that she sat on the floor with us (we were keeping our cat company under the bed where he felt safe), without any hesitation at all. She then gently described to me and my husband exactly what would happen, and led us through the process on our own time, but also respecting the needs of our poor suffering Uly. I think seeing him relax and feel good again more before passing made it a little easier, so I appreciate that she takes the time first to administer a pain reliever. Afterwards, she gave us some time to be alone with him, to say our final goodbyes and thank him for being such a good friend. She provided a soft blanket for him to be transported in. She gave us the option to carry his body to her car, and she strapped him in a stretcher so his body wouldn't get tossed around while being transported. I think these details really show just how much thought Dr. Janie had put into her practice. Saying goodbye to a beloved pet is truly one of the most heartbreaking experiences, and all I cay say is that I felt safe leaving my little guy in Dr Janie's very capable, honest, and caring hands. We should all be so lucky to pass away at home, wrapped in our favorite blanket, with a kind doctor such as Dr. Janie looking out for us. Read Less

Putting down our dog Capone was one of the hardest decisions we have ever had to make.  We went back and forth and decided it was what was best for him.  He absolutely hated going to the vet and he was there often in his last few months.  We read a lot of reviews online about putting him down at home and decided to go with Dr. Janie.  We absolutely dreaded that Monday.  Dr. Janie was so incredibly compassionate, caring, and beyond kind.  She made one of the worst days of our lives a little easier.  She listened to us talk about our amazing memories of him, shared pictures and stories, and about his favorite things to do.  She walked us through step by step of the procedure.  We chose to have him cremated and ashes returned to us with a paw print.  A week later, we received a hand written card from Dr. Janie recalling all the wonderful things we told her about Capone.  We are very very touched and she made us feel as if she was part of the family and knew Capone his whole life.  We couldn't be more grateful for her.  She made that terrible day bearable and made us feel very at peace.  I would chose to use her services again in a heartbeat.  We can't thank her enough. My husband and I had to put our beloved 15 year old terrier down yesterday. Being able to let our beloved Rocket end her time with us in the place of her choosing was very important to our family, but her health declined so quickly that we had no time to ask friends for recommendations or do much "research" on our own. We picked Dr. Janie as the most likely option from the top few hits of an online search, but it was with much trepidation that I brought a stranger in to help us through this most difficult time.It turns out, Dr. Janie was the perfect choice. I want to first point out that she abbreviated her own vacation in order to assist us in our time of need. For that alone, we will be forever grateful. Dr. Janie was a godsend. She made 100% sure that my cat, Flash, went peacefully without any pain. She explained everything to us and gave me all the time I needed to say goodbye to my friend. She was so gentle and kind to him and I appreciated that more than words can say. It was the hardest thing I've had to do but she provided comfort for me and my kitty during his passing. As pleasant an experience as possible when losing a long time friend. She arrived at our home precisely as schedule. She was remarkably patient, and truly comforting to us, and also very concerned about our dog's comfort during every step of sending her home. She did not hurry, and she explained every step of the process ensuring we were prepared and ready. There was no discomfort for our dog at any point of dying, and that gave us some comfort that we made a right decision. When our dog was gone, Dr. Jannie allowed us as much time as we needed to say goodbye, and then she and her assistant used a pet stretcher to carry our pet to their car. When you are faced with the horrible decision to end your pet's suffering, I sincerely recommend At Home and At Peace. This was the hardest thing I have ever had to do and Dr. Janie couldn't have been more compassionate and calming. She made sure I understood the process and answered all of my questions. I can only reiterate what the other reviewers had said- this is hard time for families and Dr. Janie couldn't have made the experience any smoother on us and our pet.  Being able to let our pet go at home (or in our case, our backyard) where she was most comfortable and free of stress/fear associated with vet's visits, was absolutely the best option for our dog. Dr. Janie was very responsive to my email and was thoughtful and caring throughout process from start to finish. She was also very good at explaining everything to our family (as well as via Skype to family out of town). We had to put our wonderful 15 year old lab/husky/chow mix, Leo, to sleep yesterday, and Dr. Janie could not have done a better job of helping my family through it.  First, she answered her phone at 7am on a Sunday morning, and said she could come to our house at 11am.  She told us to give Leo anything he wanted, including lots of love and attention (he had a stroke, or maybe a brain tumor that finally, all of a sudden, really affected him - could barely walk, almost blind, etc.).  When Dr. Janie arrived, she explained everything that would happen, and then let us have more time with him to say goodbye.  She was very compassionate and patient.  Afterwards she and her helper wrapped Leo in a soft velvety blanket and put him on a stretcher and took him away.  The cost (without having his ashes returned to us) was $330 and it was worth every penny!  Thank you Dr. Janie for helping us through a very sad event. Let me start by saying  that when the time comes to put our little furry friends to rest nothing seems harder. But I have to say working with Dr Janie was the most peaceful and comforting of experiences. She truly made the process as calming and simple as possible. Over a holiday weekend none the less when many mobile vets I tried contacting were out of town she was available. And when she arrived in our home she didn't just sit down and methodically begin her work but sat and talked with us and asked questions about our little guy. She wanted to get to know us and our pet, she wanted to see pictures of happy times, and despite our sorrow she helped us remember all the joy we'd shared. This type of empathy and kind spirit is what you get when you work with At Home and At Peace. You don't just get a clinician who is all business but a person with a gentle heart who wants to engage you and your pet in such trying times... Of course when the time came to administer the medications and start the process she was all professionalism.
