Arapahoe Animal Hospital has been serving clients, pets, and our community since 1954, and was originally located a few blocks west of our present Main Hospital location at 55th and Arapahoe.
In 1969, AAH moved to its present Main Hospital location at 5585 Arapahoe Avenue, Boulder. In those early days, our Main Hospital location was surrounded by open fields!
In 2007, we opened Arapahoe Animal Hospital — Downtown, our second convenient hospital location, at 1730 15th Street, Boulder, in the Downtown/Pearl Street Mall area between Arapahoe Ave. and Canyon Blvd. Our two hospitals share the same pet information data base and superb staff — and both have ample on-site parking.
Today, Arapahoe Animal Hospital is a four-doctor, state-of-the-art veterinary facility, serving clients at two convenient Boulder locations. We provide complete and advanced Veterinary Medical, Dental, and Surgical Services for small animals, birds, and exotics — and are open to serve you 7 days a week, offering day and evening hours.
Our Main Hospital is located on one full acre of tree-shaded land, with over 1/3-acre dedicated to outdoor exercise and play yards for our canine Boarders and Doggie Day Care participants. We offer Kennel and Pet Boarding for ALL small animals, birds, and exotics — and a “home away from home” for your pet when you are away!

I would not recommend anyone bringing a reptile to this vet. We paid $75 for a wellness check up and all the vet did was hold our snake and look in it’s mouth and told us to buy a book about our snake...

We paid $75 for a wellness check up and all the vet did was hold our snake and look in it’s mouth and told us to buy a book about our snake. The questions I asked seemed to annoy the vet- the only reason I went in was to see if he was growing too fast. He was more interested in trying to sell us his old enclosure so we could upgrade ours. Will never come back to this place.

I'm so appreciative that AAH has hired additional vets. Now we don't have to wait long at all to have care for our dogs when the need is urgent. Dr. Cerda was capable, efficient, caring, and timely, and it was easy to understand his treatment plan and follow-up instructions. The fees charged were quite reasonable, and the care was superb.
While the parking and location of the 55th office works better for me, I prefer the downtown office because it is quieter and calmer.
Over the past 16 years, I've seen almost all their veterinarians, and each one is my favorite in different ways. It's good to be in their good hands.

My wife and I have been to a few vets over the past several years with our dogs and we've been very disappointed with what we've found locally. Last year our Guinea pig got a corneal ulcer and needed an enucleation. Dr Smith did an incredible job with our little guy! We've been back several times with the Guinea pig and our dog and Arapahoe Animal Hospital is always awesome! They've been very honest and up front and haven't tried to sell us ridiculous, expensive surgerys and medications that may or may not help. We drive over 20 miles, past countless other veterinarians, to go to Arapahoe Animal Hospital and highly recommend them to our friends and families.

This place is fantastic. I took my dog here for doggy day care when she was a pup as it was on my way to work. Life changes and I hadn't been back for years. Last week I had an early morning emergency. I called and they were open, they still had our information in their system from 6+ years ago and were willing to see us within minutes. The Vet and staff took great care of our dog, and were willing and able to accommodate on such short notice. We were not current clients anywhere in Boulder and the scenario could have gone very differently for us. I am grateful for their help and I highly recommend Arapahoe Animal Hospital for their excellent service.

The vet was extremely rough and un-careful with my mouse in the room. then he told me he'd have to scrap his skin to get a sample under a microscope. he then took my friend Oreo into the back room and then came back with the only explanation that he just stopped breathing, no other explanation or anything. seeing how rough he was with Oreo and how he dropped him in the glass bottom aquarium with no bottom(mice hate heights). he seemed to have no idea what he was doing. My only friend died in the hands of this man who had no explanation at all on how he died. defiantly do not recommend if u care any sort for your animal he told me its happened before which is weird because animals dont just die unless they have a heart attack because hes scary and rough or because he dropped him. I'd understand if it was because of surgery or a allergic reaction but, he had 0 explanation to why my friend and loving animal had died in his hands.

Since moving to Boulder, we were nervous about finding a vet. Arapahoe Animal Hospital is close to our home so we decided to go with them for our chihuahua's annual vaccinations. We were very pleased with our visit. Every employee there is very kind and good with animals. Ever since then we have left our dog with them for boarding and he absolutely loves it there. This is the first vet our dog actually gets excited to visit. We usually meet with Dr. Cerda and he is always very professional and thorough about explaining to us what our dog needs and exactly what procedures will entail. We recently had our dog's teeth cleaned and had him neutered at the same time. Dr. Cerda explained everything in advance that would happen and the procedure went really well. After the surgery, Dr. Cerda called to tell us how it went and let us know that if we had any questions to please call. I've never had a vet that was so engaged with the customers. Also, the next day, a vet tech called to follow up to make sure that our dog was recovering well and making sure that he was successfully taking medicine, eating well, and not having issues eliminating. We have a great relationship with this veterinarian and we are very thankful to have someone who seems to care as much about our pup as we do.

We had to put our beloved chocolate to sleep and everyone at the downtown office was so sympathetic and made the experience the best it could be. Dr Hayes did a wonderful job of describing what he was going to do and made Zeke the most comfortable he could by sedating him thoroughly first so he was sound asleep before the drugs were administered, so he felt nothing. It was all very peaceful. Thank you for the easy transition.

We have been taking our animals to Arapahoe Animal Hospital in Boulder for over 12 years. Great staff, excellent doctors and our dogs are always happy to go to day care, have their check-ups, and board over night. Our animals leave just as happy as when they stay. No change in behavior. Our golden is so happy to play there that he falls over whinning with excitement in the middle of the floor, then drags the assistant down the hall to go play with the other dogs (we refer to his dramatics as Mr. Drama). Our smaller dog wags her tail and enjoys both the anticipation of going to play and then is just as happy when I return to pick her up. Our cat actually doesn't fear the vet and does very well.

My experience with the hospital was horrible, even though one doctor seemed to care (but still didn't know the proper procedure). Ever since February 2014 I was inquiring via email what I'd have to do in order to receive international travel clearance for my cockatiel. The process was tedious and no one knew what to do, even thoughthey are supposed to be trained (USDA-requirements and training) and specialized in this area (see website). During the actual appointment months later they were COMPLETELY unprepared (even though I had emailed them all of the required documents in advance and filled out all of the information). Essentially, I did all the work, and provided ALL of the information for the hospital, and they then went ahead and charged me $195.00 for work I had done, and they had copied wrong...turned out they made a mistake filling out the forms and thus didn't meet USDA requirements. Needless to say it was a HORRIBLE experience, a HUGE stressor for me (1 day before immigrating to another country!!), and I still haven't received a proper refund. I barely got my bird to go with me, but the charge for the document should be waved entirely. It wasn't a service, it was a nightmare. I did all the prep-work, and they made mistakes copying the information and then over-charged me for a service they didn't provide... Be very careful with this clinic, they may care about the animals they treat, but they are not competent, helpful or caring when it comes to international travel arrangements.

When I went in to see Dr. Hayes for the first time, my green cheek, Envy, wouldn't stop vomiting. This was my first trip to the vet, and I was terrified for my bird. Even though Dr. Hayes was booked and had several emergencies that night, he said I could bring Envy in. I didn't know what to expect, I feared for my bird's life, and I also didn't have a lot of money. In very short order, Dr. Hayes identified the problem and treated my green cheek, who is now back to normal health. I'm very impressed with Dr. Hayes' abilities and dedication to his feathered patients. Thank you so much for making the first trip to the vet a good one, for helping my bird to feel better, and for all of your follow-up care. I couldn't ask for a better vet! Bird vets seem to be quite rare, and I'm so happy to say that I've found a great one! Do not hesitate to take your bird in to see Dr. Hayes.

I just wanted to express my gratitude for for Dr. Greg and his awesome staff! After determining that my goshawk was acting strange I brought him in and Dr. Greg was able to nail a diagnosis quickly and treat him immediately. It was a great relief to have him help my bird and his staff knew exactly what to do to support him during the procedure. Greg's confidence exudes from his personality but it is not cocky, merely matter of fact. The best part was that the bill was 1/2 of what I expected it to be and although my bird has not completely healed I know he has a fair shake with the help of the Arapahoe Animal team!

We LOVE Arapahoe Animal Hospital!! We go almost daily for dog day care! The front desk staff is by far the most compassionate, friendly and informed staff at any office I have been to in quite sometime. I feel as though they are just as happy to see me as my dog even at 7AM! Always bright and cheery. A mix of funky Boulder dress and personality. It's nice to see an office that is not a cookie cutter front desk! Love 'em!!

I ended up brining a very sick dog in, at last minute and the care that both of us received was amazing. Right away we discussed options AND costs. They understand that we as humans want to do whatever we can to ensure a high quality of life for our furry friends, but that we also have to have a quality of life ourselves. I cannot say enough good things about this place. They helped me to believe that not everyone is only concerned about the bottom line.

I can't say enough good things about Arapahoe Animal Hospital. The doctors, nurses, front-desk staff and kennel crew are all amazing. They have taken wonderful care of my animal family (a golden retriever and four sweet kitties over the years) for a long time now. They are who we turn to when there's a hurt paw, a sore eye, an odd cough....or when the dog swallow's the painter's cheesecloth...all three feet of it! They are the best!

I was very disappointed with my visit to this animal hospital. I was a proud parent to a new puppy, who I happen to picked up from a breeder. I was NOT expecting to be judged and stereotyped by the vet (and apparently co-owner as well) because I was a young girl with a pure bred dog. He asked me condescending questions about how I got her and if I even knew anything about the breed. I felt like I had to defend myself by explaining how I had researched this breed for a few years and had studied up on the responsibilities of having a new puppy for quite some time....which I felt was not his place at all! I was very offended by the un-friendly manner he was speaking to me in during the visit, but kept my cool so that I could ask him of the questions I wanted to ask about having a new puppy...HOWEVER after he left to run a test, he never came back and an assistant came back into the room and told me I could leave. On the flip side, everything but the rude behavior of the vet was great. The receptionist and multiple assistants were very very friendly to me from the time I made the appointment and throughout the time I was in the clinic. The facility seemed clean and organized but I am for sure not going back there after the condescending conversation I had with the vet. ... especially not after paying over a hundred dollars for them to tell me nothing....

I used to live in Boulder and I took my 35lb rottweiler mix dog to Arapahoe Animal Haspital. He was kind of a scared dog and he loved it there! The staff was always so nice and he never got worried when I left him there for boarding. The staff even let him play with the puppies during boarding since he still acted and looked like one (he was 3 yrs old). I now have a new puppy and I am finding out how lucky I was to have such a great vet clinic. I wish that I still lived in Boulder!

I would not recommend anyone bringing a reptile to this vet. We paid $75 for a wellness check up and all the vet did was hold our snake and look in it’s mouth and told us to buy a book about our snake. The questions I asked seemed to annoy the vet- the only reason I went in was to see if he was growing too fast. He was more interested in trying to sell us his old enclosure so we could upgrade ours. Will never come back to this place.

I'm so appreciative that AAH has hired additional vets. Now we don't have to wait long at all to have care for our dogs when the need is urgent. Dr. Cerda was capable, efficient, caring, and timely, and it was easy to understand his treatment plan and follow-up instructions. The fees charged were quite reasonable, and the care was superb.
While the parking and location of the 55th office works better for me, I prefer the downtown office because it is quieter and calmer.
Over the past 16 years, I've seen almost all their veterinarians, and each one is my favorite in different ways. It's good to be in their good hands.

My wife and I have been to a few vets over the past several years with our dogs and we've been very disappointed with what we've found locally. Last year our Guinea pig got a corneal ulcer and needed an enucleation. Dr Smith did an incredible job with our little guy! We've been back several times with the Guinea pig and our dog and Arapahoe Animal Hospital is always awesome! They've been very honest and up front and haven't tried to sell us ridiculous, expensive surgerys and medications that may or may not help. We drive over 20 miles, past countless other veterinarians, to go to Arapahoe Animal Hospital and highly recommend them to our friends and families.

This place is fantastic. I took my dog here for doggy day care when she was a pup as it was on my way to work. Life changes and I hadn't been back for years. Last week I had an early morning emergency. I called and they were open, they still had our information in their system from 6+ years ago and were willing to see us within minutes. The Vet and staff took great care of our dog, and were willing and able to accommodate on such short notice. We were not current clients anywhere in Boulder and the scenario could have gone very differently for us. I am grateful for their help and I highly recommend Arapahoe Animal Hospital for their excellent service.

The vet was extremely rough and un-careful with my mouse in the room. then he told me he'd have to scrap his skin to get a sample under a microscope. he then took my friend Oreo into the back room and then came back with the only explanation that he just stopped breathing, no other explanation or anything. seeing how rough he was with Oreo and how he dropped him in the glass bottom aquarium with no bottom(mice hate heights). he seemed to have no idea what he was doing. My only friend died in the hands of this man who had no explanation at all on how he died. defiantly do not recommend if u care any sort for your animal he told me its happened before which is weird because animals dont just die unless they have a heart attack because hes scary and rough or because he dropped him. I'd understand if it was because of surgery or a allergic reaction but, he had 0 explanation to why my friend and loving animal had died in his hands.

Since moving to Boulder, we were nervous about finding a vet. Arapahoe Animal Hospital is close to our home so we decided to go with them for our chihuahua's annual vaccinations. We were very pleased with our visit. Every employee there is very kind and good with animals. Ever since then we have left our dog with them for boarding and he absolutely loves it there. This is the first vet our dog actually gets excited to visit. We usually meet with Dr. Cerda and he is always very professional and thorough about explaining to us what our dog needs and exactly what procedures will entail. We recently had our dog's teeth cleaned and had him neutered at the same time. Dr. Cerda explained everything in advance that would happen and the procedure went really well. After the surgery, Dr. Cerda called to tell us how it went and let us know that if we had any questions to please call. I've never had a vet that was so engaged with the customers. Also, the next day, a vet tech called to follow up to make sure that our dog was recovering well and making sure that he was successfully taking medicine, eating well, and not having issues eliminating. We have a great relationship with this veterinarian and we are very thankful to have someone who seems to care as much about our pup as we do.

The entire staff here is amazing and they are so great with people as well as animals.They were able to tell me that I had been doing almost everything right and by the time the vet was done educating me on everything I would need to know, I had no questions and that is a great feeling. We had to put our beloved chocolate to sleep and everyone at the downtown office was so sympathetic and made the experience the best it could be. Dr Hayes did a wonderful job of describing what he was going to do and made Zeke the most comfortable he could by sedating him thoroughly first so he was sound asleep before the drugs were administered, so he felt nothing. It was all very peaceful. Thank you for the easy transition.

We have been taking our animals to Arapahoe Animal Hospital in Boulder for over 12 years. Great staff, excellent doctors and our dogs are always happy to go to day care, have their check-ups, and board over night. Our animals leave just as happy as when they stay. No change in behavior. Our golden is so happy to play there that he falls over whinning with excitement in the middle of the floor, then drags the assistant down the hall to go play with the other dogs (we refer to his dramatics as Mr. Drama). Our smaller dog wags her tail and enjoys both the anticipation of going to play and then is just as happy when I return to pick her up. Our cat actually doesn't fear the vet and does very well.

My experience with the hospital was horrible, even though one doctor seemed to care (but still didn't know the proper procedure). Ever since February 2014 I was inquiring via email what I'd have to do in order to receive international travel clearance for my cockatiel. The process was tedious and no one knew what to do, even thoughthey are supposed to be trained (USDA-requirements and training) and specialized in this area (see website). During the actual appointment months later they were COMPLETELY unprepared (even though I had emailed them all of the required documents in advance and filled out all of the information). Essentially, I did all the work, and provided ALL of the information for the hospital, and they then went ahead and charged me $195.00 for work I had done, and they had copied wrong...turned out they made a mistake filling out the forms and thus didn't meet USDA requirements. Needless to say it was a HORRIBLE experience, a HUGE stressor for me (1 day before immigrating to another country!!), and I still haven't received a proper refund. I barely got my bird to go with me, but the charge for the document should be waved entirely. It wasn't a service, it was a nightmare. I did all the prep-work, and they made mistakes copying the information and then over-charged me for a service they didn't provide... Be very careful with this clinic, they may care about the animals they treat, but they are not competent, helpful or caring when it comes to international travel arrangements.

When I went in to see Dr. Hayes for the first time, my green cheek, Envy, wouldn't stop vomiting. This was my first trip to the vet, and I was terrified for my bird. Even though Dr. Hayes was booked and had several emergencies that night, he said I could bring Envy in. I didn't know what to expect, I feared for my bird's life, and I also didn't have a lot of money. In very short order, Dr. Hayes identified the problem and treated my green cheek, who is now back to normal health. I'm very impressed with Dr. Hayes' abilities and dedication to his feathered patients. Thank you so much for making the first trip to the vet a good one, for helping my bird to feel better, and for all of your follow-up care. I couldn't ask for a better vet! Bird vets seem to be quite rare, and I'm so happy to say that I've found a great one! Do not hesitate to take your bird in to see Dr. Hayes.

I just wanted to express my gratitude for for Dr. Greg and his awesome staff! After determining that my goshawk was acting strange I brought him in and Dr. Greg was able to nail a diagnosis quickly and treat him immediately. It was a great relief to have him help my bird and his staff knew exactly what to do to support him during the procedure. Greg's confidence exudes from his personality but it is not cocky, merely matter of fact. The best part was that the bill was 1/2 of what I expected it to be and although my bird has not completely healed I know he has a fair shake with the help of the Arapahoe Animal team!

We LOVE Arapahoe Animal Hospital!! We go almost daily for dog day care! The front desk staff is by far the most compassionate, friendly and informed staff at any office I have been to in quite sometime. I feel as though they are just as happy to see me as my dog even at 7AM! Always bright and cheery. A mix of funky Boulder dress and personality. It's nice to see an office that is not a cookie cutter front desk! Love 'em!!

They understand that we as humans want to do whatever we can to ensure a high quality of life for our furry friends, but that we also have to have a quality of life ourselves. I cannot say enough good things about this place. They helped me to believe that not everyone is only concerned about the bottom line.

I can't say enough good things about Arapahoe Animal Hospital. The doctors, nurses, front-desk staff and kennel crew are all amazing. They have taken wonderful care of my animal family (a golden retriever and four sweet kitties over the years) for a long time now. They are who we turn to when there's a hurt paw, a sore eye, an odd cough....or when the dog swallow's the painter's cheesecloth...all three feet of it! They are the best!

I was very disappointed with my visit to this animal hospital. I was a proud parent to a new puppy, who I happen to picked up from a breeder. I was NOT expecting to be judged and stereotyped by the vet (and apparently co-owner as well) because I was a young girl with a pure bred dog. He asked me condescending questions about how I got her and if I even knew anything about the breed. I felt like I had to defend myself by explaining how I had researched this breed for a few years and had studied up on the responsibilities of having a new puppy for quite some time....which I felt was not his place at all! I was very offended by the un-friendly manner he was speaking to me in during the visit, but kept my cool so that I could ask him of the questions I wanted to ask about having a new puppy...HOWEVER after he left to run a test, he never came back and an assistant came back into the room and told me I could leave. On the flip side, everything but the rude behavior of the vet was great. The receptionist and multiple assistants were very very friendly to me from the time I made the appointment and throughout the time I was in the clinic. The facility seemed clean and organized but I am for sure not going back there after the condescending conversation I had with the vet. ... especially not after paying over a hundred dollars for them to tell me nothing....

I used to live in Boulder and I took my 35lb rottweiler mix dog to Arapahoe Animal Haspital. He was kind of a scared dog and he loved it there! The staff was always so nice and he never got worried when I left him there for boarding. The staff even let him play with the puppies during boarding since he still acted and looked like one (he was 3 yrs old). I now have a new puppy and I am finding out how lucky I was to have such a great vet clinic. I wish that I still lived in Boulder!
