I have many cats of my own and have had many a scare and sick kitties, from acute kidney failure to stray cat diabetics that I took on the task of medicating every day. To losing cats to the fatal FIP. And always I feel confident in the treatments and diagnostics we did on my pets. Finding the problems, and even some we weren't expecting, quickly. My poor fur baby wasn't feeling well and I was worried after many failed attempts with other vets. I found Cheshire and they got my tweaky baby in the following business day. (Called Saturday got him in Monday) the staff listened to my worries and concerns and showed compassion and understanding to my worries about my furbaby. I wasn't judged for becoming emotional in regards to his health. They told me what they thought could be the cause and what they wanted to do with a full detailed printout of cost and treatment. Was more then I was expecting when I first walked in but after hearing what they believed his illness to be I found it very fair and reasonable. They were gentle with my scared tweak and very reassuring that he would recover well. During the time they had his in the back away from me there was another very angry cat yowling shortly after a staff member come in to let me know that it was not my kitty making that noise and that it was an angry kitty getting his nails cut. I am very happy with the care that tweak received and the kindness of the staff. I was assured that my kitten was in the upmost of health other then the concerns I took him in for. I consider myself the crazy cat mama and am highly protective of my fur babies, and I would highly recommend Cheshire Cat hospital to anyone with a sick or hurt kitty. Read Less

Our cat Tee Tee is 15 years old. At the beginning of the week her face started swelling. We had an appt. with a different vet for this morning and they called me an hour and half before her appt. time to cancel because the vet had the "flu". After making quite a few phone calls I found an opening for the afternoon with Cheshire Cat Hospital.
We arrived for the visit, filled out the required paperwork and within a few min. we were able to see the vet. Our TeeTee is quite a special case of an old cranky cat so she had to be sedated so the vet could get a better look at her jaw. I also want to say that they did nothing without checking with us first and being sure we were sure with what was going on.
Everything was done efficiently, professionally and with Tee Tee's comfort in mind. Turns out she had an infected root and the tooth would have to be pulled. It was a molar so they actually had to drill to be able to break the tooth apart.
Within an hour and a half our girl was ready to be picked up and brought home. They made sure we understood the directions and everything that had to be done. They thoroughly went over the bill with us and made sure we knew if we needed anything else we could call.
Tonight Tee Tee is doing very well, although I do think she's a little wobbly still :) but she has eaten and drinking water very well. We could not have been more pleased with the care she received and the compassion they showed her and us as well. She's very much one of our girls and we were super worried we might not be bringing her back when we left the house this morning.

I took my cat in for a visit and the vet treated us both with such respect and kindness. When the vet first entered the room she let my cat hang out in the sink where he felt safe and allowed him to get used to her before she went over to look at him. When she did go over to him she allowed him to stay in the sink and didn't do unnecessary touching and holding. This made the experience so much easier for us as my cat was much calmer. I asked that she lay out the possible treatment options along with cost beforehand as I am a college student and on a budget she gladly did with great respect and understanding. This place is clean and even have a few "house" cats of their own that they have taken in. I know the Cheshire Cat Hospital truly wants my cat to get better and is not there for just the money and that is the first time I have felt that from a vet's office. I couldn't have been more pleased with the care my cats receive at Cheshire cat. Many times I felt like general vets lacked knowledge and understanding of felines. The ladies at Cheshire love cats as much as I do, and treat your little fur balls like members of your family, not just pets. I took my cats for annual checkups and dental cleanings. The day after each visit they always give me a quick call just to make sure that the kitties are feeling well and did not get adverse reactions to vaccines or anesthesia. I think the costs are quite reasonable. Dental cleanings run around $300-380, $52 for an exam, and $10-20 for vaccines. Read Less

I've put off writing this review for a while because I really don't like writing bad reviews. I moved to Colorado from Massachusetts last year and this was my first vet visit since living here. I'll admit that my cat isn't too easy to deal with - she's super anxious and cranky, but this is a vet that's supposed to specialize in cats. Anyway, I've taken my cat to the vet every single year of her life, with no major issues. This time, as soon as they saw my cat's anxiety, they said they'd put her under anesthesia (for just a yearly physical). I know anesthesia doesn't come without risks but they didn't explain that to me, nor did they talk over the costs with me. They whisked her out of the room to administer the anesthesia and give her physical, while I paced anxiously around the office. They also mentioned doing some blood work (outside of the usual stuff) and didn't explain the details or costs of that either. I will spend money on my cat, obviously. That's my responsibility as her owner (and servant). I was not comfortable with the way they handled this there. I felt that any procedure out of the ordinary should have been discussed with me - the risks, benefits and costs. I went in expecting a normal $50-$75 visit and left paying around $200 - only finding out when I went to pay. Read Less

If you don't take your cats to Cheshire Cat Hospital, then you're not giving your furry family member the best health care. It's just that simple!I have taken all my cats to Cheshire for the last 15 years. I wouldn't even consider taking them anywhere else (unless it's an emergency in the middle of the night of course!). Dr. Jill and her staff truly love and understand cats - it's obvious in everything they do; from the way they talk even to the angriest cat (probably one of mine) to handling them to boarding them. Many years ago I brought in my aging and sick kitty when it was "her time" to put her down. Dr. Jill came into the room and cried with me. It affected her almost as much as it affected me, and that meant more to me than I can express.Yes the cost may be a little high, but the treatment, the thoroughness and the care they provide is worth every penny! Mary, Becca and Chandler (and everyone else that I haven't learned your name yet) take every concern seriously, they are friendly and knowledgeable and go above and beyond for cats and their owners. I am a HUGE fan of the Cheshire!I have 2 cats...one of which is diabetic. When Foxy fell extremely ill while out of town for Christmas, I had to take her to a general veterinarian. The instructions they gave me seemed a little odd, but I followed them hesitantly. Once I got back to Denver, I called Cheshire and told them my situation. They were ASTOUNDED at the instructions the vet gave me...and not in a good way. I was able to bring Foxy in that following morning and they kept her all week. Turns out, she was dehydrated, had a severe case of pancreatitis (which jacked up her blood sugar levels) and had a killer infection. The staff took fantastic care of her and I thank them for saving her life. They know about cats on a level that non-specialist vets don't. When my mother-in-law's cat was sick, we took the cat to a Boulder general vet who told us that we'd have to have a ridiculously expensive procedure and that the cat would likely die anyway. So instead, I suggested we go to Cheshire. The vet knew exactly what the issue was and how to treat it, and it cost a fraction of the price that the other vet quoted us. Kitty is happy and healthy now. Cheshire Cat also saved my cat's life when he had the "blocked Tom" syndrome. They let me come in to see him frequently, and gave clear instructions on how to help him heal. They are also friendly towards alternative health, though they are not "holistic vets."I live in Boulder now, but I still drive down to Arvada to take my kitties to Cheshire. I have taken my cats to Cheshire Cat Hospital for more than 10 years. I appreciate Dr. Jill and her staff for their deep expertise on cats and the little touches that make the cat more comfortable - like feeders outside the window so kitties have birds to watch while being weighed and examined. The map to the right is whack, by the way. Cheshire Cat Hospital is in a renovated house just north of 92nd Avenue on Old Wadsworth Boulevard. My cats don't mind going there. NO REALLY. It's such a cat-friendly place, with wide windowsills to sit on and toys to play with, no noisy dogs, and people who handle them gently and really understand feline health.I'm always a little startled at the bill, but health care is expensive no matter how small the patient. They give free new-kitten exams, which is nice - both my new kitties were shelter cats with various issues and critters on board. I recommend Cheshire Cat all the time to friends with felines. One warning: At Christmas, they send cards with catnip in them, and the cats can smell the stuff a mile away and will attack your incoming mail to get their fix. I have had important mail chewed and slobbered on in the process. Cats will never admit this, but under the influence of 'nip, they lose all dignity. Read Less

In my opinion they are incompetent, and are too busy to provide effective follow up care. phone calls are not returned in a timely manner, or not at all. My cat finally got so ill he could not stand, so I brought him to another vet (On a Sunday since they are closed on Sunday) who diagnosed the probable cause in a few minutes. Am I biased because I work here? Maybe, but somethings gotta be said for a place that keeps its employees 3, 6, 7 or like myself 10+ years.

Thank you Cheshire Cat Hospital! Keep up the great work! Read Less

Read Less

I would not recommend anyone use Cheshire Cat Hospital. In my opinion they are incompetent, and are too busy to provide effective follow up care. phone calls are not returned in a timely manner, or not at all. After using them for my sick cat for one week (And spending $500 in vet bills), they could not diagnose the reason for his illness. My cat finally got so ill he could not stand, so I brought him to another vet (On a Sunday since they are closed on Sunday) who diagnosed the probable cause in a few minutes. However by this time the cat was too far gone, started having massive seizures, and was put to sleep. Read Less
