Having been clients of Cat Specialist we were always pleased with the care our cats received from Dr. Olson and Dr. Lavallee, but have decided to move on. We based our decision on current business practices. We feel that they have put people in positions who are not quite suitable for the job which has caused undue stress for an owner. It is sad, because the doctors are great , but staff and how a business is run can literally make or break you. In our case, it's broke. It sad that a business would be willing to lose a long term client over an employee(s) who cannot properly perform their duties. Read Less

Dr. Lavallee treated me with courtesy and respect, and talked with me in detail about all of my concerns—not just the ones that directly applied to my specific cats that I brought in that day, but all cats. She answered all of my questions fully and asked repeatedly if I had any more questions—it was obviously important to her that I was fully informed. Excellent cat clinic! They know my cat, are so kind and always follow up and spend a lot of time with her and myself. I forgot to pick my medicine up one day and they were closing and stayed opened for 15 minutes longer so I could get it before I went out of town. These people really care about cats! I have taken my cat to my regular vet and gotten full panel blood work done every year for 3 years and was told everything was fine but she has lost over 5 pounds and was constantly hungry and never played anymore. She was throwing up almost daily. Dr. Levallee at The Cat Specialist did an ultra sound and immediately found her intestines were not working right. These people are AWESOME! By far the best veterinarian team I have ever known. The vet my family has used for almost 30 years gave up on my 10 yr old girl when the test came back she had cancer and when we moved to CO I heard about Cat Specialist and took her to see them. I have nothing but accolades for Cat Specialist. They were kind initially on the phone when discussing my cat's hyperthyroidism, I know how people go on and on about their pets so I tried to keep it to a minimum. After contacting several Vets I decided to go with them. (It helped that they were also the lowest cost, but that wasn't what tilted the scale)My Sam is now recovering nicely. I have 100 percent confidence in The Cat Specialist. I have dealt with Dr. Olson is extremely knowledgeable and very compassionate. I trust his knowledge on medical and health care, and I trust his recommendations on the proper course of treatment for the cat's best interest. It is rare to find a professional of any kind in whom you can truly rely on their knowledge *and* judgment in serious situations. Dr. Olson is such a vet. Because my now-retired vet would send me to Dr. Olson for certain things, I initially thought of The Cat Specialist as a specialist to whom vets referred certain serious cases. That was wrong and I now use The Cat Specialist for all my cats needs, even though it is a long distance from me. There are few things better than having a vet in whom you have confidence. It's unfortunate, of course, to have to come to Cat Specialist, but also a godsend that they are here for us and our feline friends when the time is needed. My conversations with both doctors were incredibly insightful and a refreshing change from almost all my other interactions with vets. They spent the time to explain some of the ongoing research and controversies over treatments for feline hyperthyroidism and chronic renal failure in veterinary medicine right now, and I left feeling more confident in my own judgment and ability to provide home support for my cat.My 16 year old kitten stayed for four days for radioactive iodine treatment and she even gained a substantial amount of weight before leaving. She's continuing to gain weight and inch closer to her normal self after treatment. I've also, on the advice of Drs. Olson and Lavallee, introduced the addition of high protein homemade food, subcutaneous fluids, and nutritional supplements to help support my geriatric cat. Frankly, I feel like she has gotten a new lease on life and I am optimistic she's still got a few of her nine to use up. We just moved here from out of state so didn't have a primary vet yet...and rushed him to the 24 hr emergency at another facility in the middle of the night...they wanted to send me to Denver to find out what was wrong. They took excellent care of my certified emotional support animal when she was down with an ear and lung infection. We were purrrfectly pleased and Hermione the cat did very well there, wasn't afraid of the staff even when she got her shot to make her feel better. Going to the vet used to be a miserable experience for both BonBon and myself . . . and then we found Cat Specialist! They prescribed a medication to help with BonBon's car sickness, then were sweet and gentle, and they cleaned up her carrier when we arrived when she had an accident (thank you!). I am truly grateful to Cat Specialist for the help they have given me and my family. I inherited two sick cats when my father died, and thanks to Dr. Olson they are now happy healthy little critters. I was very impressed with how quickly we were able to get what they needed done. For example, Ricky needed a dental and MANY tooth extractions. This was identified during his first visit, and they just went ahead and did bloodwork, heart screening, and the dental the same day. This was wonderfully efficient and saved us from cat herding to return on a separate day. And Miss Lucy had almost daily vomiting. An ultrasound later and we found intestinal disease that she is now being treated for . . . and we aren't cleaning cat vomit off the carpets any more! We are very happy customers! Read Less

Dr. Olson has taken care of my cats for over a decade. Examples of the excellent care he has always provided are too numerous to list in their entirety. With various cats, we have been through heart problems, kidney failure, liver disease, cancer and a host of less serious illnesses. Dr. Olson's diagnostic skills are top-notch. He combines the art and science of veterinary medicine using the latest technology, keen observation, careful history taking, methodical exploration of possibilities and plain common sense. One of my cats lived to be 21 years old and another to 19. Both enjoyed additional quality years because of Dr. Olson's diagnostic and treatment skills. Plus, he truly loves cats and it shows. From Dr. Olson's unassuming manner, you would never suspect that he is a nationally renowned feline specialist and has written publications and book chapters. He has a great "bedside manner" and like to teach cat owners how to manage their cats' illness at home. When one of my older cats died in her sleep and again when another had to be euthanized, Dr. Olson and his staff were wonderful. I could not have asked for more caring, compassionate and understanding people. The staff is helpful, returns calls promptly, issues reminders, and follows through with whatever is requested of them. My kitty got sick (read: profuse vomiting) while our regular vet was out of town, so we were in a hurry to have her seen. We got an appointment the same day and I was impressed with the place - enough to write a review at least. While it may not be the cheapest vet, I felt there was value in the service. It seemed like Dr. Olson did reasonable but not excessive tests (I was worried about that from a specialist). He personally called the next day to report results and shared all of the records with our regular vet. Overall, pleasant experience and my kitty is better now! Read Less

I just had to move away from Colorado, and sadly that meant leaving Dr. Olson and the wonderful staff at Cat Specialist. They have taken care of our kitty Pico since he was a kitten. He had a few injuries and illnesses over the years and I have always been able to get an appointment promptly, the staff is warm and caring, and Dr. Olson never makes us feel rushed. When Pico had an ultrasound - we got to see the photos! Hands down, best vet we've ever been to. This place is special and Dr. Olson will be our vet for life. He has given our Max wonderful care for his kidney disease! The staff is caring/warm, the building is clean, and the service is excellent - we never feel rushed! I have been taking my cats to this cat hospital for about 16 years. They have helped me through some very tough times with my cats. They are very conscientious and up to date. They are caring and mindful of the feelings of pet owners. They truly love cats. I had another veterinarian make a quick diagnosis giving my pet a death sentence when it was not warranted or correct at all. I first started with Purrfect Health when I moved my sick pet to there for better treatment and I'm so glad I did. My cat went in to have 10 teeth removed on 6/1/09. Two weeks later my healthy cat was dead from what the emergency room called a 'massive infection'. The incompetent veterinarian did not use antibiotics before during or after the procedure. The stitching came out within the first few days & they blamed the cat's metabolism for breaking down the stitches so fast (they made me pay to have the stitches repaired!) Because the stitching came out, the bacteria got into her system and she died a horrible death two weeks later. I highly recommend that nobody bring their animal to this place. They make excuses up for everything that goes wrong, and never blame themselves for anything. I spoke with other veterinarians about this & they are stunned at the lack of antibiotics & say the 'metabolism' line was just an excuse for poor work.
