If I could leave zero stars I would! Stay away from Vca Douglas County Animal Hospital! 531 Jerry Street, Castle Rock, CO They intentionally let our English bulldog die. On Sunday June 4th our dog fell and we immediately called our vet Lisa Sanborn and all we got was a recording telling us to go to a particular hospital, we couldn't even leave a message. We rushed our English bulldog into the vet hospital because she was very ill. The Vet hospital said we had to go thru our primary care to have certain tests done. When we tried to contact the vet the following morning Monday June 5th all they could say is that Lisa Sanborn would be busy with surgery and would not be able to see us until the following Monday. We begged for help over the phone. We went to another vet hospital without much assistance. After trying to get our dog in we finally found a vet where we had to drive over 50 miles to see, but it was too late, the vet said if we had gotten our dog in sooner there might have been a chance and she died Friday night June 9th right there at that vet hospital, the only appointment we had with our current vet was Monday June 12. To add insult to injury Dr. Lisa Sanborn's administrator sent a very nasty letter to my wife basically calling her a Karen and said we were not ever welcome there because of our insistence that our dog needed to be seen. We had gone there for many years with multiple pets. That is the last place anyone should EVER send any animal to unless you want them dead! They could careless how animals are treated and I will NEVER forgive them for how they treated us! Read Less

We've used the VCA for many years, I think 23 years. In every experience their professionalism has been wonderful. We've had 3 dogs during these years and the VCA was there for the normal, routine stuff, that anyone can handle, but also for those heartbreaking times we all dread. Their handling of those times is truly amazing. They understand the emotions you are going through and assist in whatever ways they are able to perform. They even do the small things that you would never think of, such as taking a paw print and posting the pet's name and date onto a casting to be flamed so that young kids have something to remember. Every staff member we've worked with over the years is a caring individual that loves animals and does all the things you need them to do to keep your family safe and complete. Read Less

Over the past 3 years, every single encounter I have had at the Castle Rock VCA with my cats has been above my expectations. I first went to the hospital in an emergency situation. My cat had been given too much fluid during a preventative dental cleaning at another vet (who shall remain nameless) and was suffering acute heart failure. Though they did not know me or my cat, we were treated with immediate compassion and current care standards as soon as we arrived -- after hours. Sadly, I lost my cat that night, but not because the VCA didn't do their best. They then made all of the arrangements for me afterward, and the staff was so organized and caring, they made a difficult process bearable. I decided to take my other two cats to the VCA from then on. And since then, I have had only great experiences even though my cats are aging and have health problems. Both cats have had routine care, of course, but also surgeries and infections that required advanced care. I have found consistently that the VCA staff -- veterinarians, techs and admins -- are on top of their game. They listen carefully, offer multiple options when possible for care, and always follow up. In addition, they go above the requirements of care for you - the human involved - by making sure you understand what your animal needs and why. I have lived in two countries and three states since owning my cats. I have seen many vets under different circumstances and feel I can say with some degree of comparison that the VCA staff is the best all around that I have ever worked with. I would caution those who want only a shiny facility to make themselves feel they are getting the best care. The Castle Rock VCA offers advanced services with reasonable prices, and the staff makes sure you and your animals are cared for and want to return. I can't offer a higher recommendation. Read Less

We took our Dog in who had been seen there since she was a puppy for Emergency's. She was 12 years old. We had to put her down which was heart breaking in and of itself. We had been long standing Customers and ALWAYS paid our bills on time. While the care was good. It was over $850.00 and they came into the room to ask for payment while we were saying Goodbye to a Beloved member of family. If they had not known us it would have been acceptable, but this policy is inhumane to the clients that have always paid their bills and had to make a heart breaking choice. My husband walked out. They put the Bill ahead of the care and Heartbroken clients. Read Less

I highly recommend VCA and their personnel. Dr. Cox, Dr. Romano, Sonya, Cyrus, and Brittany H. were absolutely awesome. Our Cairn Terrier was in serious physical trouble and we were allowed to see her x-rays and were explained in detail what was going on. Dr. Romano stayed in touch with me several times on the 8th of January 2017, and we went to VCA immediately. After explaining all possibilities, and problems that it would cause for her health, my wife and I decided we did not want to see her suffer anymore. We got to talk to her, pet her, and just spend some last remaining time with her. Chairs were brought in for us as my wife and I wanted to hold her as she passed. No rush was placed on us, and we then asked Dr. Romano to begin. He administered the first shot, then put her in my arms, then did the second shot. She passed. The staff told us to take as long as we needed, and my wife and I got to hold her for a considerable amount of time. We then placed her back in the cage. I asked the staff if I could leave her first ever stuffed animal that she had for 14 1/2 years and they said that she would be cremated with it. I want to thank all of the staff that was involved for your compassion, your caring, and your understanding. You were all outstanding. I will continue to bring food, towels, and blankets as I wanted to see the 400 lb collection broken. Thanks to all. Read Less

Although it is nice to have a place close by that is open 24/7, we will not be returning for any future emergencies. We brought our puppy in for vomitting and pain, and a few days later called back when she began vomitting blood. The office staff was very rude to me and I proceeded to call other offices in tears until I found one that would take us. The office we ended up going to was very confused and concerned as to why the VCA did not send us home with any medications or feeding instructions. All the VCA wanted to do was perform another $500 xray. When I asked what another xray would show, the response was, "Obstructions... and other things...". Obstructions were already ruled out, and I did not feel to be in good hands looking for "other things". Our puppy's problem was fixed with minimal treatment at the other office. I would have been more willing to return to VCA if they had not brought me to tears when I called. They were not willing to diagnose the problem in a practical way. Read Less

I would Highly Recommend this place to anyone who truly loves their pet and wants them to be treated with the utmost love and respect. If I could give you more stars than just 5 , believe me I WOULD! My family and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your genuine kindness and care will never be forgotten! Last night was one of the hardest days of my life & my family's. We took our sweet dog, Bear, in believing we were going to schedule a surgery for him ("thanks" to Banfield Hospital @Petsmart) :-( . Instead, the end result was having to put him down. Not at all what we were expecting!! All of the support staff and the veterinarians were absolutely the kindest, most caring, compassionate, knowledgeable, & professional people I have had the opportunity to deal with!! Dr. Jennifer Roberts is very thoughtful, kind, patient, knowledgeable & she was very honest with us about Bear's condition. She talked my family & I through all of the possible options and scenarios and then allowed my family & I the time we needed to process in order to make the best decision for our cherished Bear. We certainly wish she had been the doctor for our Bear from the beginning! We were his Forever Home and he was our Forever Best Friend!! The Staff at VCA was also incredible!! Claire, Brittany, Pablo, Kathy, Jessica, and Dr. Boucher - We could not have gotten through this without all of you. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! Read Less

I wish I could give these guys a better review. I took my GSD to the emergency vet around 2 in the morning and the vet (I don't think he works there anymore, unfortunately) was great and very informative. He did not try to rip us off and told us all the different reasons she could be sick and what we should do about it. I then had to take her in again because a massive tumor showed up overnight. I made an appointment ahead of time and also printed off the "Free First Exam" coupon, since it wouldn't count for the emergency appointment. Dr. Roberts was pushy about getting the tumor surgically removed before even testing if it was benign or not. It wasn't bothering my dog and wasn't interfering with her daily life. She was very opinionated about getting it removed because it was "ugly," (which she said several times). This would be at least a $1500 surgery for a tumor (that most likely is benign) because it was "ugly." I asked for a quote to just get it checked to see if it was even cancerous. She got me one, but said "if I were you, I would just get it removed and skip the other steps." I told her I would talk about it and come back if we decided to do anything. Then when I went to check out, they wouldn't honor the coupon because only certain veterinarians honor the coupon. This is VERY deceiving on the website, which plastered all over says first health exam free. No where does it say (not even in small print) that it is only honored by SOME veterinarians. So I was very disappointed about the experience and had to pay for the health exam, which, with the coupon, I was not expecting to have to do. Also, since the tumor isn't an issue (according to the vet, it's just "ugly") it was a waste of money. I will be going to a new vet from now on, that isn't in it just for the money and doesn't try to push you or is opinionated on one particular (or most expensive) treatment about YOUR OWN dog and the decisions you make for it. My beagle has suffered a weight problem ever since he was given to me as a young adult. The additional weight caused many problems as one could imagine. I took him to VCA in Castle Rock for another matter and expressed my concern over his weight. They recommended some tests and voila...he dropped 10% body weight and has so much energy. Thyroid.
