I've had nothing but good experiences with High Plains. My cat had to have his teeth cleaned and 7 teeth removed. His mouth healed wonderfully with no infection and he's back to his cheery self. With our previous dog, we used another vet recommended by family. At first it was good, but over the years, service went downhill and costs increased. We began to feel like we were being given the runaround simply to make the clinic more money. After saying goodbye to that dog earlier this year and adopting a new dog, we were on the lookout for a new veterinary clinic, so we asked around for friend recommendations. Enter High Plains Veterinary. Out of all of the recommendations, this one received the most votes from our friends, so we scheduled our appointment and took our new dog to see them. From the moment we walked through the door, we were greeted with smiles and pleasant attitudes. The front desk associates were kind and thorough for their part of the appointment, and our wait time was minimal before we saw the vet/doctor. She too was fantastic and explained everything about our mixed breed, sharing precautions to take, recommended care, and possible markers to place on our watch list. She was great with our dog and even managed to get her to eat a treat, which is a struggle sometimes for us unless it's a specific brand. All the way to the checkout and scheduling a follow-up for a booster shot, we felt valued, and everyone remembered my name as well as my dog's. Since then, we have been kept informed of needs and notified of all things to keep in mind for future care. We used to live off of marksheffel and constitution which is super close to high plains. We bought a house on the south end of town and we still make the trek up to the same vet. You guys are the best we’ve ever taken our pets to! The staff are always so friendly and know us by name. It’s apparent that everyone there loves animals and wants to be there. We recently had some issues with one of our dogs and they were so caring and did a good job dealing with not only us and our human emotions but taking great care of our pup. Nothing means more than my dogs and when they are sick I need service. I tried them out because my regular vet is across town. They got me in within two hours on a Monday morning. We have been taking our pups to High Plains for almost 6 years now and are so happy with the care our pets have received. The doctors are so patient and explain each process thoroughly. They were wonderful. The nurses were very helpful, nice, and attentive to my cat. The Dr very very knowledgeable, explained everything that was going on in detail and where I could understand it. She also made sure to go over every option, and tried to tailor our options to our financial situation while keeping my cats health primarily in mind. This is the best vet clinic we have ever associated with. They are friendly, understanding, caring and reasonable. The staff takes care of you thoughtfully, even when they are jammed with check ins. Dr. McKinney has been our vet from almost the first day they opened and you couldn't ask for a more empathetic and caring person. The few times she was not available, we saw a couple of other doctors who are just as wonderful as she. They run specials on different types of care for your pet, i.e. dental cleaning, and with 4 pets, it is great to have that option. The location is great and there is always enough parking. When Dr.Butler was working here, we absolutely loved it and you wouldn't catch us at another hospital. I have this hospital 5 stars because she was absolutely amazing. She did everything under the sun to help our pets and treated them as if they were her own every single time. After she left it all went downhill and we had nothing but issues with the rest of the doctors we saw. They are greedy and love overcharging you for things. I was charged an extra $200 or so for an optional blood panel on my dog that I told the vet not to do before the surgery was even scheduled because they had just done one almost a month prior for a different surgery, not to mention the morning of the surgery I also mentioned it to the receptionist and she told me not to worry that it wouldn't be done even though it was on the paper but since they did it anyways I had to pay or I couldn't take my boy home. We finally stoped coming here when our dog DIED from what I truly believe was just a complete lack of care from this vet. Not only did they keep telling me they couldn't figure out what was wrong with her but they just kept blowing off my concerns by saying "oh her stomach is just upset" while she had uncontrollable bright red bloody diarrhea, not eating or drinking, swelling and not being able to move etc. They give her back to me at the end of the week and say "there's nothing else we can do and she isn't going to make it but you can try taking her to the emergency vet to see if they can do anything." It's been 2years since we lost our husky and I will never forgive this vet for their complete lack of care for her. I will never ever recommend this vet and I hope people never trust you again in emergency situations with their family.Read Less

I've been going here ever since it opened years ago. I love all the staff and vets. They fit my pets in if there's an emergency and they know my pets, which is a lot to say as I have 4 cats and 3 dogs. I brought two different dogs in within months of each other. One was old, disabled, and on his last leg. I brought him in search of something to make him comfortable - IV fluids, pain medication, etc until he passed since he had previously had rough weekends and needed a little boost to help him through. He was barely looked at then I was given the vet's condolences and suggestion that I put him to sleep with a quick retreat from the vet so I could "think about it". Do people legitimately just have their pet put down on the spot without allowing their family to say goodbye?!? The vet seemed surprised and upset that I would have the audacity to bring him home and allow him to pass in peace. He did pass... a month later, surrounded by love and at peace. My second dog was a rescue with a rough beginning and at less than a year was exhibiting a decline that you'd see in senior dogs. After much encouragement I finally convinced a different vet at this location to please do some blood tests. Turns out he was in stage four kidney failure with a few weeks life expectancy. Once again, it was recommended to me to put him to sleep - right there on the spot - and once again I was left to "mull it over". I was given very little to no information on what I could do to extend his life and left missing my old vet in another state who went out of his way to make sure my dogs were well cared for including after hours research if needed. After consistent research I ended up home making all of his meals and extended his life 3 precious months. On a rough week I called and begged the clinic to give me some IV fluids for him since he seemed dehydrated. They refused. My neighbor (who had recommended the clinic) convinced them to let me purchase the supplies but I was met with arrogance and distrust when I picked them up. If you want your animal to be vaccinated or euthanized I would highly recommend High Plains Vet. Otherwise you'd be better off seeing most any other clinic in Colorado Springs. Read Less

LOVE Dr. Phillips! We trusted her to neuter and spay all five of our bunnies. Bunnies are known to be fragile and difficult to perform surgery on. All of them recovered with flying colors. We have 2 Anatolian Shepards and have tried several vets from Monument to downtown COS, until a lady at work, that owns a farm, highly recommended High Plains. Awesome!! We can tell the entire staff, from front desk to the doctors, genuinely care for you and your pets. They are very thorough, no rush, no pressure consultation going over every expectation and detail before any diagnosis and/or treatment. Then a meeting post treatment with clear simple instructions for aftercare. Amazing service, knowledgable staff, genuinely caring, and all with amazing prices.
