Opened in October of 2008 by Dr. Ricia Walker, Pets First Animal Hospital is
a full-service, state-of-the-art veterinary hospital serving the people and pets
of Colorado Springs and surrounding communities.
As pet owners ourselves, we know that our clients not only expect the best medical
care for their pets, but they also want to be treated with respect by a staff that is
welcoming and friendly. Owning a pet is a joy and we truly believe that visiting our
hospital for a wellness exam or medical care should be as stress-free and pain-free
as possible.
As doctors, we also understand that the best means to protect the wellbeing of your
pet as well as keep the cost of care as low as possible is through preventative care. Not only does this mean thorough wellness exams and more, but we must be good at listening to you as well as sharing our medical knowledge so you can provide the best possible home for your pet.

We love Pets First! Dr. Walker is phenomenal and the girls that work for her, are just as great. They are always so excited to see my dogs and even the grumpy cat. They know them each by name when we walk in and everyone is always so willing to answer any questions or concerns we may have. I can not say enough about this place. The prices are great too.

Pets First is amazing! We brought our Boxer in after taking him to an Animal ER that was very expensive and not helpful at all. Dr. Walker fit us in on very short notice and helped us determine what was actually wrong with Bogey and referred us to a specialist. All of the Pets First employees are extremely friendly and accommodating. Dr. Walker was so great with Bogey and thanks to her, he had a successful surgery and is doing great!

Extremely disappointed with this practice . Started taking our dogs here about a year ago, was impressed , brought in two new pups this past summer and nothing but constant calls to change appointment times and receptionist not knowing what the dogs are being scheduled for or why the appointments aren’t kept after being made. Too bad. The Dr was on top of her game , maybe just needing a tuneup up front. Hoping to find another vet that we don’t have these same issues with.

We were so excited to find this vet clinic! We brought our two labradoodles and the Doctor took the time to play with them and cuddle them so they weren't scared at all! My older dog use to hate the vet and hide the entire time. This time she didn't want the vet to leave the room! The vet also gave us so much good information and was very helpful and sweet. We can't wait to go back. I'm so glad we found a clinic that treats our puppies just as we do at home! Thank you!!

We're so happy we found these guys! Excellent customer service and care for our three kitties. Jess was super helpful with scheduling in the beginning and I loved that they got all of our previous records transferred. Great communication! Dr. Walker and her vet techs were all so sweet and caring. They answered all of our questions and I love that Dr. Walker did the vaccinations herself. Overall it was a great experience, we're happy to have found our vet home!

Loved our first visit to Dr. Walker's office! Our incredible treatment first began when I made the appointment and was treated with tremendous respect and care from the receptionist who answered the phone. Dr. Walker was very thorough in examining our dog Scout and he fell in love with her at first sight/smell (of the turkey baby food!). Great experience overall and would highly recommend the staff and the hospital to anyone!

I followed Dr. Walker from her previous place of employment to the new hospital she opened. She is the only veterinarian I would trust to keep my animals overnight. Her passion and compassion for each one of my pets won us over as clients. I usually have ten or more dogs and as many cats, each one is a member of my family. Dr. Walker and her staff took care of my pets for the 4yrs I was in Colorado. I miss her terribly, we are in Florida now.

I absolutely love this clinic! The techs are so friendly and they truly care about their clients. Our Pit Bull got out of the yard last week and a kind man brought him here to see if he was chipped. I was in a complete panic and so grateful when she called to let me know he was there safe. When I got there to pick up my big baby, I was greeted with several warm smiles and later asked if I wanted a kitten. lol Funny thing is, I've been wanting one for a while now, so it was definitely fate. I fell in love with one of the grey kittens they had for adoption, which we've named Gracie. Our family is now complete.

We just had our first visit and wow! Talk about above and beyond! Not only was the care to our furry children absolutely outstanding, the receptionist did a fantastic job of keeping my two human children busy so I could focus on the dogs. Dr. Walker is, in my opinion, one of the best vets I've ever taken my dogs to. She walks into the exam room and she acknowledges the "parents." She then proceeds to do the most amazing thing. She gives our pups baby food to keep them still and so she can look them over and calm their anxiety at the same time.
And to the lady who gave Pets First a one star simply because of a "kitty heroin" comment, I understand your child was in the room, but get over it. This doctor truly cares about her patients and it shows.
They are easy to get an appointment with, her office is clean and smells nice, she has a small rug on the exam table so it's not just this cold sterile environment and their prices are very reasonable.
I would HIGHLY suggest Dr. Walker and Pets First Animal Hospital.

Updated to 5 stars because our pup is now almost two and this place is still great....Dr Walker and tge rest of her employees are our pups best friends....ive never seen a dog so happy to go to the doctor...We've taken our pup here since she was 8 weeks old. I'm pretty sure she's never felt a shot because she's so distracted by the treats and attention. We also had her fixed through here, and she came back a happy pup with lots of details and information on exactly how the procedure went. They do a great job of treating your pet like a member of the family.

In regards to Angela Morrill's comments: Angela Morrill has never stepped foot in Pets First Animal Hospital and her comments are not accurate.
Here is why she is posting a negative review: Her puppy was walking around with a broken leg and was not being treated. Interested parties got involved to help this puppy get appropriate care. The only concern was for the dog's well-being and I was not concerned about someone's feelings getting hurt over the diagnosis. I've used Dr. Walker at Pet's First Animal Hospital for 11 years and she is an excellent veterinarian on every level. Bottom line, the puppy, has had surgery and is on the road to the recovery - everything else doesn't matter.

Got right in and was immediately taken care of.5) Dr. Came in with a treat, took time to visit with my pet before the exam. My dog wasn't even scared after meeting her and walked right back to the office. 6) all the staff was smiling and wonderful really made you feel welcome and less stressed. This is my new go to vet!!! Dr. Walker is a horrible vet. She prescribed ivermectin for our mixed breed dog without telling us that it was toxic to some breeds and that a mixed breed should be tested for a particular mutant gene...
Dr. Walker is a horrible vet. She prescribed ivermectin for our mixed breed dog without telling us that it was toxic to some breeds and that a mixed breed should be tested for a particular mutant gene; we could have done the test for $70. Instead, she went for her "drug of choice" and poisoned our dog who spent a week in a coma at the emergency vet hospital before crashing and dying. Her comment was "how bizarre". She does not take into consideration the dog's breed and heritage or the toxicity of the drugs she prescribes, nor does she give any descriptions of signs of problems. Absolutely do not take your pet to her; she is incompetent and has no compassion whatsoever. I reported her to the Colorado State Board of Veterinary Medicine and her case meets the board soon.

Her passion and compassion for each one of my pets won us over as clients. I usually have ten or more dogs and as many cats, each one is a member of my family. Dr. Walker and her staff took care of my pets for the 4yrs I was in Colorado. I miss her terribly, we are in Florida now.

I absolutely love this clinic! The techs are so friendly and they truly care about their clients. Our Pit Bull got out of the yard last week and a kind man brought him here to see if he was chipped. I was in a complete panic and so grateful when she called to let me know he was there safe. When I got there to pick up my big baby, I was greeted with several warm smiles and later asked if I wanted a kitten. lol Funny thing is, I've been wanting one for a while now, so it was definitely fate. I fell in love with one of the grey kittens they had for adoption, which we've named Gracie. Our family is now complete.

We just had our first visit and wow! Talk about above and beyond! Not only was the care to our furry children absolutely outstanding, the receptionist did a fantastic job of keeping my two human child...
We just had our first visit and wow! Talk about above and beyond! Not only was the care to our furry children absolutely outstanding, the receptionist did a fantastic job of keeping my two human children busy so I could focus on the dogs. Although I hope to not need vet care between now and the next check-up, it's great to know they are right down the street!

Dr. Walker is, in my opinion, one of the best vets I've ever taken my dogs to. She walks into the exam room and she acknowledges the "parents." She then proceeds to do the most amazing thing. She gives our pups baby food to keep them still and so she can look them over and calm their anxiety at the same time.
And to the lady who gave Pets First a one star simply because of a "kitty heroin" comment, I understand your child was in the room, but get over it. This doctor truly cares about her patients and it shows.
They are easy to get an appointment with, her office is clean and smells nice, she has a small rug on the exam table so it's not just this cold sterile environment and their prices are very reasonable.
I would HIGHLY suggest Dr. Walker and Pets First Animal Hospital.

Their kind, caring and compassionate hearts is evident as soon as you walk in and this is the first vet that I have ever gone to where the pets are happy to be there. Updated to 5 stars because our pup is now almost two and this place is still great....Dr Walker and tge rest of her employees are our pups best friends....ive never seen a dog so happy to go to the doctor...We've taken our pup here since she was 8 weeks old. I'm pretty sure she's never felt a shot because she's so distracted by the treats and attention. We also had her fixed through here, and she came back a happy pup with lots of details and information on exactly how the procedure went. They do a great job of treating your pet like a member of the family.

Here is why she is posting a negative review: Her puppy was walking around with a broken leg and was not being treated. Interested parties got involved to help this puppy get appropriate care. The only concern was for the dog's well-being and I was not concerned about someone's feelings getting hurt over the diagnosis. I've used Dr. Walker at Pet's First Animal Hospital for 11 years and she is an excellent veterinarian on every level. Bottom line, the puppy, has had surgery and is on the road to the recovery - everything else doesn't matter.

Got right in and was immediately taken care of.5) Dr. Came in with a treat, took time to visit with my pet before the exam. My dog wasn't even scared after meeting her and walked right back to the office. 6) all the staff was smiling and wonderful really made you feel welcome and less stressed. This is my new go to vet!!! Can't say enough nice things!

She is a superb diagnostician who is really attentive to her patients. She and her staff are caring and compassionate. Except for one grumpy cat, our dogs and cats have always been happy to see her.

Dr. Walker is a horrible vet. She prescribed ivermectin for our mixed breed dog without telling us that it was toxic to some breeds and that a mixed breed should be tested for a particular mutant gene; we could have done the test for $70. Instead, she went for her "drug of choice" and poisoned our dog who spent a week in a coma at the emergency vet hospital before crashing and dying. Her comment was "how bizarre". She does not take into consideration the dog's breed and heritage or the toxicity of the drugs she prescribes, nor does she give any descriptions of signs of problems. Absolutely do not take your pet to her; she is incompetent and has no compassion whatsoever. I reported her to the Colorado State Board of Veterinary Medicine and her case meets the board soon.
