The vets are nice but the wait times are unacceptable. Been there three times with an appointment and two of those times, we had to wait over 30 minutes in the waiting room past the time of the appointment. I understand they are busy; I'm busy too, that's why we make appointments. So we are both available at the same time. In my experience, they haven't understood that. Today was my second trip to Belcaro Animal Hospital. I originally chose Belcaro because a friend of mine raved about this clinic and I can see now while looking at their nearly 5 star rating that many others would agree. Both times my expectations have been met and exceeded. I used to take my old dog here and then got a new dog and continued at his vet. I finally switched back to Belcaro and I'm not sure what took me so long! Great service, caring people and fair prices. I have used the vets at this practice for my cats for years. They take care of them with compassion and caring. I had a cat that was at end of life and they were so caring of me and my cat. Belcaro is simply AMAZING. I've taken my cats (and now dog!) here for 3 or 4 years now and have seen almost every provider in the practice. Dr Herman is the best vet I've ever worked  with, but also very popular, so it's fantastic that all the vets here are wonderful. They're very fair with prices and take a conservative approach with treatment (which I love). They really take the time to talk at each appointment and make you feel heard. I've since moved out of the Glendale area and tried 3 different vet practices in an attempt to save myself the drive. No one comes close to Belcaro and I am sorry literally EVERY TIME I branch out. I had my first visit to here today. I had read reviews online and choose this place. Reviews are great. When i walked in it waz so busy no one acknowledged me. I did not know what to do so stood there for 10 minutes until i was told to sign in. Then since i had walked my dog there over a mile in 70 degree weather i asked if i could get him wafer as.he was panting. They said a they do not have water for pets due to bacteria. Fair for a waiting room but then i got taken back to get a weight on my dog. I asked again for water as he was extremely hot and panting. They said yes and never brought it to me. Then i saw the doctor was great. He is the reason for the better review. If i had only seen the receptionist it would be one, not 3 stars. I just wanted water for my dog. Read Less

Great first visit. I just got a new cat from Dumb Friends League. They gave me a list of vets that would see my cat for free within 2 weeks of adoption. I chose this location becaude of good reviews & proximity to my house. Staff was very friendly, although intake could be better organized. Beyond incredible. I go out of my way to see this vet. Upon arrival, unbeknownst to me, one of the receptionists checking me and my cat in noticed that he peed his carrier. She promptly took him to the care room, washed him and the carrier. After a short wait, the doctor seeing us was warm, gentle, and loving. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this place. We have been going to Belcaro for about 12 years now and they've cared for 3 of our dogs.  All of the vets have given our dogs great care throughout their lives.  They are experienced and caring.  Their technicians are great too-very busy but so nice.  I think that the costs are modest, overall. If you're looking for a concerned, caring, and loving veterinarians, this would be the place. I've taken all 3 of my cats here and never worried that they hadn't been cared for by the best (esp. fond of Dr. Michael Herman and Paul Bechtold). What's even grand is if an urgent concern, they even address it via email, as in our concern of having repeated episodes with our little girl and needing specific medication. The front office staff is usually pretty expedient in keeping you abreast when your appointment is scheduled, and if not able to make it during the week availability of first-come-first-serve on weekends. Yes, I'm particular when it comes to my love little ones, so additional wait for specific vet when on-premise doesn't bother me to ensure full check up. Great crew here !!! Read Less

I've gone to some nightmare vets in the past and this place is truly a breath of fresh air. Everyone was very polite and helpful in explaining all the processes and what the lab results meant for my cat. My cat is never a cool customer when it comes to vet visits, but I feel like they handled him as best they could with the utmost care. It was so nice to receive personal calls and follow-ups from the vets directly and in such a prompt manner - it shows that they really care about the animals they treat and their owners as well. A little on the expensive side, but well worth it if you love your pets as much as I do. Will definitely return and I highly recommend them! Read Less

I cant say enough good things about Dr. Herman. He was spot-on with every medical decision for my aging Puli, and during the incredibly painful time when she was 15 years old and her health failed, he provided me compassion and understanding to make the best decision. I trust him 100% with my dogs' health. He goes above and beyond, answering emails after hours and even getting my dog the medication he needed on a Sunday morning. I take both of my (rescue) dogs here and am very happy with both the service I receive, and the care my dogs are given. I've seen two different vets here and they've both been great- kind and professional. My favorite part is they way they seem to favor a slightly "holistic" approach. One of my dogs was on prescription painkillers when I adopted him. The vet at Belcaro successfully transitioned him to OTC glucosamine pills and my pup is doing great!! Read Less

His gentle manner and his qualitative care made my pet, Romeo, a 10-year old Shih Tzu feel totally at ease with him. All the staff care, too. They go out of their way to get answers for any questions you may have and get back to you very quickly. Belcaro has the kindest, nicest, most amazing doctors and staff. They go out of their way to help you! Definitely you can trust whatever that say. Sampson got an eye infection and it started so quick that I left a message at 630pm when they were closed. They called the next morning before opening and I was offered an appt. I said no, then 2 minutes later cleared my schedule and called back and appt was gone! I felt like the worst mommy ever! They said they would fit us in at the lunch hour so Sampson and j arrived, we went right in, they did a full exam not just the eye!, he was given antibiotics and the vet explained what I should expect and do. I also got an anti nausea pill and Pepcid. It's exactly as vet said- eye is 50% better, stomach is fine, and Sampson (although traumatized;) ) is doing amazing! This is the BEST animal hospital/veterinarian facility in the nation! I drive 45 minutes to get here and this is without traffic.............I just wish that Dr. Herman could also see humans.......but all the vets here are great. Our dogs love him, we love him and everyone I send to Belcaro loves him or whomever they connect with. After a horrible experience at another clinic, I was in search of a family-friendly, pet-friendly facility. A friend suggested Belcaro Animal Hospital and I couldn't have been more impressed! They have a bin of toys for the kids, which is a perk since I usually have our two with me. But, more importantly, they were experts with our dog. We have a protective dog, especially with me and the kids, and when she barked the vet wasn't phased. He took her in back where she was more comfortable and did the exam quickly. She came back wagging her tail and with a trust established. I appreciated that the vet took time to answer questions but also that he didn't make me feel that our dog was bad or that we were bad owners when she barked. I was referred to Dr. Herman essentially for a 2nd opinion. My initial thought was to have him evaluate my golden and then continue on with the vet that is only 5 minutes from my home. I was so impressed with Dr. Herman. It was obvious that he wasn't trying to sell any service. Yet, he was thorough and spent time discussing all my questions. As I was driving home, I had two thoughts. First, while it's really not about the money, I was very pleasantly surprised at the low cost of this visit, relative to what he did. And secondly, I was so impressed with his knowledge, kindness, and compassion, that it is worth the 30 minute drive, passing by several other animal clinics, to have my dogs treated by Dr. Herman. We first took our two 18+ year old cats to Belcaro for treatment over 5 years ago.  Both of our guys were dealing with kidney failure and our previous experiences at that fancy expensive clinic on E. Alameda were dreadful.  The contrast at Belcaro with that other clinic was stark.  We were very pleased as the vets and staff at Belcaro helped us manage the end of life our two senior kitties.  Basically we received compassionate quality care at fair prices and unnecessary procedures were avoided to improve the quality of the remaining time we had with our little ones.  When we had to say goodbye to each of our kids we felt that the process went as well as one could expect.After our cats passed on a corgi puppy joined our family.  We did not hesitate to take her to Belcaro for all of her health care needs.  Initial puppy exams and the spay procedure were performed with compassion and skill.  We have met most of the vets at the clinic and I do like the fact that a qualified doctor is always around when we need them.  Our pure bred dog has had a couple of weird problems ranging from a strange jaw locking episode (cured with steroids) to a bug that bit our girl on her backside and laid some eggs under her skin that appeared to us as some kind of lump (cured with a skilled pinch and removal of the parasite at the appropriate spot).  Needless to say we trust the vets at Belcaro with our little girls' health care and we highly recommend this clinic to anyone. First off - the building is outdated inside and out, almost to the point of looking unclean. However, this would not matter if the service was satisfactory. It DEFINITELY wasn't. Second - I had two appointments at this office. One time for my 1 year old Vizsla, who had a patch of hair loss near his eye. And the second when we adopted our new puppy. I saw a young man, who barely looked old enough to have graduated college, let alone have the experience of a vet. He was awkward, inexperienced, and incredibly unhelpful. He gave us a ridiculous diagnosis that (as we knew it would) turned out to be incorrect. They then happily charged us when we had to return when his prescription did nothing.And thirdly and MOST IMPORTANT -  We also brought our newly adopted puppy for for the second vet visit here. He was again incredibly useless and almost dangerous in his lack of knowledge. He was not able to tell me what to do about my puppy eating clothing and blankets that could potentially harm him (never suggested pet insurance like our new vet). And he REALLY messed up by never informing us to purchase a heartworm preventative. Every competent vet we've used has ALWAYS either done a check first off, required a stool sample, or provided us with heartworm preventative medicine to purchase. This inexperienced and unhelpful "vet" did none of these. We have since been to a new vet who did all of the above and we've started our pup on the preventative and have now found our little guy does have worms! THIS IS SOMETHING THIS VET (and I never even found out if he was actually a licensed vet) SHOULD AND COULD HAVE PREVENTED! So, now our poor little pup is suffering thanks to this center's poor service. That is a serious and life changing mistake! We will NEVER EVER return with our business and make sure to warn every dog owner we know against coming here. We have already done so at our local dog park, and will continue to spread the word!Please be advised! Belcaro only saw my dogs as income, not as creatures that needed an experienced eye and competent care! Read Less

My family has been coming here for over 30 years and have never had bad customer service. All the vets there that have been there for years are great. They worked with me when I needed help with my Italian greyhound who was blind in one eye and had a head tilt, they were there when I had to put another of my dogs to sleep, and so on. They are busy like every other vet office out there and strive to give all our furbabies the attention and care that they need. They also will work with you when you have a dog with disabilities. They also were great with my cats and one of them is a senior that needs more care as he gets older. Read Less

I recently moved to Denver and Belcaro was recommended to me along with another vet. I went to the other vet first and tried Belcaro second. I will look no further as the service and knowledge the doctors and staff have at Belcaro made all the difference!!The staff is very kind and you can see they're very busy, which doesn't interfere with their attitudes. My dog Ava and I arrived a bit early as we were in the neighborhood, and the kind woman, Suzy greeted us and kept acknowledging us even though we had to wait until our appointment time.  It made me feel comfortable, as well as having other staff member walk by smile and say hello to us.Dr. Rakefet Orobona was very warm and listened to what my little Ava's (dog) issues were. I fluctuated between 3 and 4 stars because of the wait times. I don't like to wait 30 minutes when I have made an appointment. It wouldn't bother me so much if it didn't happen every time I visit. I think all of the vets here are great, though Dr. Otero came highly recommended to us. We have seen multiple vets in the practice with both our enormous Bernese, and our Chihuahua. Thankfully, we haven't needed extensive treatment for either of our dogs thus far at this practice, but I am confident in the doctors here based on our experiences in comparison with other clinics. We have had three Bernese Mountain Dogs, which are not the healthiest breed. When you have a Berner you become BFF's with your vet. When you have two Berners you might as well set up a 529 plan for their kids' college fund. So, you might say we have had significant vet experience including, but not limited to: vaginal surgery for recurrent E. coli infections, TPLO knee reconstruction (x2), Histiocytosis, spaying, neutering, ear and eye infections. Belcaro has an excellent reputation and aside from the wait times, I have only glowing things to say about their practice as a whole. If you have a furry child and need quality vet care definitely give Belcaro a call with confidence. Read Less

One of the more frustrating aspects of relocating to a different state, is finding a veterinarian whom I can trust with my pups.  Fortunately, I found all of the positive reviews for Belcaro and didn't need to look further.My 5yo collie/lab mix, Hercules Johnson III, is in great health and current on everything, so I could have taken my sweet time finding a vet, but I got a lil crazy when I moved here in December and ended up adopting a new pup after a week of living in Denver.  Leland Palmer (now 10 weeks old) was ready for his next round of vaccinations and an exam when I picked up from the rescue.  So, off to Belcaro we went!Here's why I'll be a returning client:- The first exam is FREE!  I paid a grand total of $10 for the vaccinations and left with a free "puppy packet", which contained coupons and a free dose of heart worm meds.- In Seattle, Hercules LOVED going to his vet because he got all sorts of attention from the front of house staff, vet techs and veterinarians.  I can tell already that Belcaro is staffed by friendly, pet loving people, who put both myself and my furry friends at ease.- It was easy to make an appointment and I like that they take emergency walk-ins, too.
