I used to love this office when Dr. Buttrill was here. Now that she's gone, I'm only giving the courtesy of 2 stars instead of 1 because the office staff is lovely. The vet I saw wasn't listening to me during the appointment and seemed to either ignore or mistrust everything I said about my own cat's health. She was also very pushy about two procedures that I didn't want done (one that another vet had advised me not to get). Overall, the encounter reeked of a vet who didn't trust me to make decisions about my own cat's health, and either wasn't capable of explaining or didn't want to explain her perspective. In the end, I came away from the appointment without any treatment for the issues I'd made the appointment for, feeling like I'd just paid a vet nearly $200 to bruise my cat's leg and send me home empty handed. All of my suspicions were confirmed when on a later phone call, she repeatedly disagreed with what I'd told her in the appointment (as I suspected, she hadn't been listening) to the point where she was basically accusing me of lying. My cat has had health problems his entire life, and I've seen a half dozen vets in as many cities. I'm not an idiot and I don't appreciate being treated like one. I'll never be visiting this vet again, and I recommend that if you need anything more than routine vaccinations, you don't either. Read Less

The doctors and staff are all very nice and caring. They took the time to answer all my questions, sent me extra materials to read and followed up after the visit to see how Luna was doing. The front desk staff are so friendly, and i went in for an initial meet and greet and made my pup feel right at home! He is a little weary about strangers and going to the vet. Hampden Family Pet Hospital was referred to me by a friend who has taken her animals there for over twenty years. Once my dog, Bruin, and I visited for the first time, I understood why she was so loyal to all of the staff there. Everyone is very friendly and extremely professional. They all seem to genuinely care who is walking in the door and why. Dr. Orobona and Dr. Monica were both very good with Bruin, who I recently had to put down because he had bone cancer. An experience like that can really affect your life, but everyone did their best to help us along in the process. I just moved to the neighborhood and found HFPH by passing by everyday. When my sweet kitty, Wrigley, broke out in a gross skin rash, I called and they helped me find a time within 24 hours that we could get W in to be looked at. Doctor Sir was extremely personable, helpful, and knowledgeable and the admin staff were the same. I am very appreciative to have found a vet so close. The doctors are knowledgeable and the check up was a reasonable price. It was around 65 bucks for a comprehensive exam and treatment plan for my pup. I don't believe we will be returning however because I felt as though I was being offered a great deal of expensive procedures/treatment options that were unnecessary. I think they are encouraged to "up sell" and that's appropriate for the food service industry but not a quality I like to see in my dog's doc. We will be looking for a different veterinarian for routine care and follow up. Read Less

After numerous and ongoing issues with Hampden Family Pet Hospital, my dog and I have  had  to find a new vet. While I have no major complaints with the veterinary care, the administrative side of Hampden had serious issues:1) On our second visit, we discover they had made two separate computer records for our dog, causing confusion on what vaccines she needed. The office staff struggled on how to resolve this issue. Not a strong first impression.2) Our young dog has moderate health issues, requiring us to go to a specialist for more advanced treatment. We requested that Hampden send over our dogs medical records and history before our appointment at the specialist. We get to the specialist, and they decide our dog needs a urinalysis. We ask them why the results from our dog's recent urinalysis at Hampden can't be used. They look at us, confused, and say they didn't receive any urinalysis results, in fact, they didn't receive any records from Hampden. After this incident, it takes us five more calls to Hampden to get her complete records sent over. We had front desk staff repeatedly tell us records would be sent over, and nothing would be sent. We finally had to go to a supervisor. This interfered with our dogs treatment at the specialist and caused redundant procedures and blood work to be performed. 3) Came in for a scheduled appointment. I had just called the day before to confirm my appointment because I was used to these types of errors by this point. When I came in, they informed me I didn't have an appointment. While apologetic, I still had to wait over half an hour due to administrative incompetence. While everyone at the vet has been friendly, these ongoing administrative errors are simply too numerous to give us confidence our dog is being properly treated at Hampden. If you have a pet with even mild medical issues I would recommend taking them elsewhere. Read Less

I've always had positive experiences here. I really like that they have extended pick up after hours and pets can be left overnight, if they need to be monitored, as opposed to being shipped off to an emergency vet for overnight stays like many vet offices do. When I had severe issues with my cat who had urinary blockages, I was able to reach his vet after hours in an emergency if I had questions. Great service. As usual, I checked Yelp before scheduling Morgan's appointment here. Our check in was quick and efficient, the front desk staff members and our technician were all pleasant.Dr. Longo greeted Morgan and I with a big smile. After reviewing his records, Dr. Longo examined him. She found that it has been a while since he had a distemper shot and let me know that my boy can now be considered a senior. She also remarked about his overall health being excellent. Morgan has lost 4 pounds since I rescued him, cutting his food portions back. This coupled with his average 6-8 mile daily walks, he's in great shape. Overall, I am very pleased with my visit today. Fortunately, it is within walking distance of my home. Read Less

We have been with Hampden Family Pet Hospital for over 10 years. All of the providers there have been awesome! Dr. Monica has been our primary physician for all of our cats and has been terrific with all of them! The surgeons and technicians are also top notch. They also know when to refer the babies on to specialists out of their practice when necessary. In my opinion, I would NOT recommend Hampden Family Pet Hospitial. When my Yorkie needed emergency surgery for her bladder stones, I took her here after being referred by a friend. Her surgery cost $2,000. I was only able to pay half and was told I could pay the other half when I received my next paycheck. After her stones were sent to a lab, they figured out what was causing them. Our Dr. told us after analyzing the stones, she would need to be on a prescription diet. But they would NOT give her a prescription until I paid the full amount. I had already discussed with them that I was not able to pay the full $2,000. (How many people can shell out $2,000 at once for their dogs surgery?) Obviously I was extremely upset that they cared more about money than my Yorkie's health. After speaking to a few staff members including the Doctor, letting them know about our financial situation, they said they were not going to change their minds. In my opinion I would NOT take my pet to a place that cares more about money than the health of animals. I have paid them in full, so I can get my baby girl the food she needs. Read Less

Last year, I was preparing to move to Colombia and I needed certain paperwork and vaccinations done so I decided to give Hampden Family Pet Hospital a try because it was close to my house. They fit me in extremely fast and Dr. Abbey was so kind and helpful! She gave me great advice and double checked that I had all of my paperwork in order. There was a complication and they discovered that my dog has heartworms and Dr. Abbey called me personally to let me know and to try and begin to resolve the problem. In the end, I was able to bring my dog with me and the overall cost of everything was extremely fair. I used to go to low cost clinics for all of my dog's vaccinations and check ups, but I now realize that the price at Hampden is actually comparable but the care, service, and attention to detail is so much better! We've brought 3 of our cats to Dr. Kris Abbey and she has been nothing but wonderful. You don't feel like she is trying to "rush you and your pet(s) out," because she doesn't have the time or something. Instead, she is extremely thorough every visit and takes great notes for an accurate history. I only wish we knew of her and Hampden Family Pet Hospital when we lost our beloved tomcat Otis in 2010. Dr. Melanie Poundstone has given us excellent service a couple of times (mostly for dental procedures). Our two remaining cats have no teeth! We wouldn't even think of going elsewhere for professional, timely, and compassionate veterinary services. The front office staff is great, too. They even remember our names and our pets' names! What we most love about this practice is their caring, skilled staff who manage us and all our esoteric animals extremely well, and also their incredible team of doctors, who range in expertise from surgery, orthopedics, cancer treatments, Chinese herbs, acupuncture, and cold laser treatments. We have used them for all of the above, frequently consulting with more than one doctor on a single illness. They have a strong culture of collaboration among them, and freely contribute to each other's cases. I never hesitate to recommend them to anyone facing a particularly difficult health issue with their pet, or getting a pet for the first time, or facing hard choices near the end. Eicko was a 130 pound lean GSD who came to Hampden by recommendation. He had an unknown problem with his front leg which resulted from injury, and the early symtoms of arthitis in his mid spine the result of his enthusiasm for life and jumping.. I must say that all the decisions made over the following 3 1/2 years were made with the greatest concern for my pup and with consideration for our family as well. Deciding against surgery because of his age and type of injury, a combination of some drugs, accupuncture and laser treatments gave the pup a wonderful life as a result of this Hampden Team. However, time marches on. Now in his twilight years, the pup will be visiting Hampden for the last time. It will surely be as loving and caring as all the previous visits. Give these folks a try.
