Homestead Animal Hospital is fantastic! Not only are they knowledgeable, caring and professional...but they also respect that not everyone can/wants to spend huge dollars to care for their pets. Thought this was a go to place. My dog after 15 years was on his last leg. We called in advance to put him to sleep and this vet assured us that they would have a room ready and bring us in back. A long time ago we did this same situation with a Rottweiler and the vet in charge again took very good care of us. This time (after calling in advance and being assured they were ready) we were told they were too busy and had to wait 30-45 minutes. Meanwhile I sat in the back of the car holding my dog of 15 years while he had a seizure and died while waiting in the parking lot. We then had to continue waiting and finally someone opened a door for us and took us to a freezer where we would dump off our family friend. I’m a veteran of two foreign wars and have seen a lot in my day. This was the hardest most painful thing I’ve ever had to do and I wish we had just stayed at home and made the memory much better and given him a good burial and a fond memory for the family. Oh by the way I had to call a month later and ask if the ashes were ready for me to pick up. 15 years ago when I was still I child I would have never guessed that an animal like this dog would help me cope with the things I have had to, if I had know better I would have done better than dropping him off at a freezer. Let’s face it it’s gonna happen anyways but why make the owner do it, that’s just cold. And when I asked the tech to make 100% sure he had passed it seemed like a major inconvenience. Thanks guys. PS. I appreciate the tour of the back and all you guys needs to do some serious cleaning, when I got to Huston for hurricane harvey Huston looked better than the back. Read Less

I took my 4 year old Golden Retriever into Homestead Animal Hospital for an ear infection. The Vet, who was new to the hospital, strongly urged that my dog be neutered. The day after the surgery, Saturday, I noticed that Lucas’ belly was very hard on one side. On Sunday it was even harder. On Monday morning, my dog was breathing shallow and rapid, his belly was very hard as a rock, and a large bulging liquid soft mass had developed on his belly and chest. I immediately took him again into Homestead Animal Hospital. The Temporary Vet who saw him said it was normal.By 5 p.m. that same evening, Lucas began to shake profusely, was having great difficulty breathing and he refused to stand up. I rushed him to the VRCC hospital on Hampden Ave. Lucas was require to stay in intensive care for 4 nights at a cost of nearly $5,000. He had contracted a STAFF infection from the surgery at Homestead Animal Hospital. It took a month for him to recover.I immediately complained about this situation to Homestead’s office manager. She said that “they will make it right”. A week goes by and there was no response. Finally, after repeated calls, the manager provides me with their insurance company’s phone number. The insurance company refused to pay.I have seen two other vets since the surgery and both indicated that Homestead should have covered the VRCC hospital costs based on how their clinics would have handled it. I wish I had done more research. I would have avoided this entire costly and unfortunate series of events. My suggestion if you Love your pet is to read the reviews, heed them and be very cautious. Dr Labonde is the best vet hands down in the world and I truly believe that. He sees my 2 parrots Cricket and Evie, my hedgehog Lylah, my 15 year old bichon TB trash bear I mean Teddy bear, and my 7 year old mutt Loki. When I rescued my hedgehog olive she was very ill and I spent over $2,500 at another vet and saw 2 more vets even going all the way to csu before I found Dr Labonde. He improved her quality of life so much and was a god send for her and I, she was happy for 2 more years until then one day Olive just declined badly and I brought her in to him. It was one of the hardest days of my life as we had to let Olive go, Dr L was so gentle and truly amazing with my sweet angel, I've never seen a vet who truly cares so much about each and every animal he sees. I work in the animal field as well and I've seen so many vets lose their passion and it's just another patient to them, it's a job to them...but not Dr. LaBonde, he is the most caring and thorough veterinarians I have ever met. It doesn't matter if it's a small hedgehog or a 60 lb 7 year old pit mix like my Loki who I have to carry in because he doesn't want to walk hes so scared of EVERYTHING, or my 15 year old blind bichon who for the first time in 15 years likes a vet and doesn't mind going in! He had an on going ear and skin issue and Dr. LaBonde has gone above and beyond for all my animals. I couldn't of asked for a better vet and I am so thankful that my babies have him in their lives and my own, because I know I can trust him, he's always going to do everything he can for my animals and then some but most all he takes the few extra minutes it takes and is sweet and gentle so all my animals feel safe and are happy. Which makes me happyRead Less

Dr. Geislehardt,We trusted you with our beloved English Bulldog Boss, just 13 months old. We trusted you because of the care you showed Peyton our other English Bulldog with her pallet surgery. For Peyton's surgery, you personally stayed with her overnight at your hospital to ensure a smooth recovery. That trust was destroyed with you punted our baby boy Boss just hours after his surgery to Animal ER. Animal ER obviously did not do the correct thing with our boy. Your desicion to send Boss away created this situation, Animal ER did nothing for him when he aspirated at midnight, then next morning, he should have never been sent home. When we picked our beloved Boss up, he was covered in urine, and vomit.... The veterinarian did not speak to us just a tech saying he was fine. The hours post surgery were critical to survival, after much research with other veterinarians, if Boss had been managed properly post surgery his chances of a full recovery were very positive. The fact that he aspirated, and was not treated immediately while at Animal ER, that created a snowball effect of wet lungs and sepsis. After the initial aspiration/vomiting episode at Animal ER, proper protocol with this surgery and this breed would have been X rays and starting on a course of antibiotics to prevent pneumonia. None of that was done, he was sent home. You created the cascading turn of events by opting to send him away, not what we expected and not what you had done with Peyton after her pallet surgery. Now we are devastated by our loss, $6,500 in vet bills in the hole, money we don't for we dedicate our lives to saving animals and have 40 rescue horses to provide for each day. You have broken the hearts of two very empathetic animal loving beings that will forever be scared. He was fine when we brought him to you, we simply wanted a better life for him, and your decisions caused his death.... shame on you.Devastated,Jodi and Paul MessenichZuma's Rescue Ranch Read Less

Dr Tom Geiselhardt is an amazing vet. He specializes in bulldogs, so we took our 2 year old English Bulldog, Lola to see him. Because he?s a bulldog expert, he was very knowledgeable in the unique health issues that are typical for the breed. Our dog has an inverted tail that is set far back in a pocket. This pocket can become infected if not cleaned out properly, and Dr Geiselhardt was able to suggest some cleaning techniques we could use at home to keep the area healthy without resorting to tail removal surgery. A few months prior to our visit, our bulldog injured her back leg while playing in the snow. We gave it 3 months to see if it would heal on its own. We kept her activity level low and her leg seemed to be doing a lot better. We took her in to our previous vet for an unrelated issue and mentioned the leg injury. The vet felt the leg and said that it looked good and as long as it continued to get better, she was probably fine. Then her colleague came into the room, felt the leg, and immediately told us that our dog needed a $3,000 dollar TPLO surgery to correct her torn ligament. I left that office visit feeling like I was being taken advantage of. When two vets at the same office are telling you different things and one of them involves a large sum of money, it doesn?t make you feel very confident and makes you question their integrity. We took Lola to Dr Geiselhardt to get a second opinion. He said she looked great considering how recent the injury was. He said he wouldn?t suggest surgery and that only 50% of dogs with this injury actually benefit from the surgery. It felt so nice to have someone give me an honest opinion without trying to get me to pay thousands of dollars for an unnecessary surgery. Now, about 5 months after the injury, Lola?s leg is doing great and I?m SOOOO glad I didn?t put her through surgery or shell out $3,000. We drove 30 miles to see Dr Geiselhardt, and I?d go back again and again despite the distance. Plus, he was actually less expensive than our former vet.Read Less

So we made an appointment and went. Sadly, we had to put Hugo down, but the vet was very nice, taking him in back so we didn't have to watch. I highly recommend them! Even though Hugo died, he still gave us good advice for if something like this ever happened to us again. If you need a herp vet, then go here! Highly recommended. Read Less
