I have been brining my household of pets to Jasper Animal Hospital since they opened. Dr Dodge is like Dr Doolittle in so many ways. As the office grew the doctors he has brought in bring the same loving care that Dr Dodge stood by. They have always charged a fair price and given superb service. A friend of the family had a pet rat (yes I know ewww) that had cancer and was willing to pay for the treatment. Dr Dodge gave us the service for free because there was a small chance it would work and my friend was willing to pay anyway. I have had 5 dogs and many cats in the time we have been going to Jasper. I was nervous about trying a new veterinary office for my older dog but the minute I stepped foot in the door I knew it was a special place. The receptionists were so friendly and happy. And then we met Dr. Space who is a very caring and knowledgeable vet. We love her! After a recent move, we switched to Jasper Animal Hospital for the proximity and high ratings. We saw three different vets, for three different pets. Normally I would say that I chose a favorite vet of the three. I’m very discerning. In this situation, each time I came in with my dog or one of my cats, I didn’t ask for a specific vet, and got a one different one each time. Each were wonderful! My cat hates going to the vet.  It's probably the one thing she's afraid of, and the past two offices I've taken her to have been stressful for both of us.  Past veterinarians have been uncomfortable with her hissing (she's never actually bit anyone, but I understand the liability), giving her a glance-over and telling me "well, from what I can tell, she seems fine."  After awhile, this wasn't working.  I wanted a REAL checkup.  I was also told on a previous visit, without her gums even being thoroughly inspected, that she "probably needs a dental cleaning" and that I'd be charged ~600+, assuming no extractions were needed.  Upon recommendation from my pet sitter, I decided to try Jasper Animal Hospital for a second opinion.  From the moment I got there, things went more smoothly.  They allowed me to bring her into a room right away, so she could get out of her carrier and sniff around a bit.  The vet and vet technician were smartly cautious, but confident around her, having suggestion of treats to calm her, giving her space while we talked so she didn't feel threatened, and allowing ME to hold her when she got her rabies vaccination and to open her mouth for them to check out her teeth.  Turns out, she doesn't have signs of tartar buildup, OR gingivitis, so a cleaning isn't necessary!  Also, Dr. Harris gave me the info of their office vet who does house visits, so in the future, I have the option to get her checkups done at home, saving my cat from a mental breakdown.  Very informative staff, kind front office as well.  No complaints, will return. This rating is for recently taking care of my son's animal. The dog has been seen there on a few other visits, typical pet exams, and recently received good vet care. The dog does not favor men vets, but as I understood it, was good during consult of fatty tissue region that became noticeable over New Year. He had an x-ray exam and cooperated nicely, receiving compliments about his well mannered behavior, not typical for small dogs and was rewarded with a very nice nail clip. Vet bill much higher priced than my son - out of pocket jab, but not any fault, just a fluke to notice something not normal in dogs gait and back area. Dog was only taken in his shot updates before Christmas. Vets can be over priced, eager to sell, despite the concern for the patient human guardian to negotiate what expenses are legit and not unnecessary, like meds. This was unexpected. Responsible action to get canine evaluated for tumors or kidney failure. I was not present, so do not know how she conducted the exam but my son seem satisfied. I recently saw the dog. Hoping outcome will prove results in adjust of diet, common sense home eating habits, play and exercise in reduce of fat cell swelling, as he did limp a little but weight baring seemed not his concern. Got useful advice in home care for his dog. He is an active, great dog. Not all rescued strays are adopted into safe successful, loving homes from the pet center of Boulder Valley animal shelter. I recently went to Jasper Animal Hospital under the recommendation of my boss at work. I was in a situation that involved my dog needing urgent attention. Unfortunately the prognosis wasn't good and my family and I had to put our little old dog down. Dr. Space was truly amazing through this process, she was kind through this hard process. Dr. Hanley is amazing! My rescue dog is an anxious mess, and she always takes tons of time to help her acclimate at each visit. She is always happy to answer all my questions - and there are always a ton! Recently she was there through a euthanasia of a foster dog, and she was so kind and supportive. I live about 40 minutes away and there are a ton of vets I could see closer, but she is well worth the drive! I have also seen Dr. Quinn with other foster dogs and he is very kind and patient as well. Dr. Donald Dodge is the most caring vet I have ever encountered. He is very honest when it comes to treating my dogs and does not push unnecessary treatment options. He has helped me out numerous times on his days off with questions and concerns I had. We left the Lafayette area couple of years ago and live in Denver now, but still drive up to Lafayette to see Dr. Dodge. I am new to CO and had a recent emergency issue with my cat. I was given a referral to Jasper by my pet sitter. I called them and explained my situation and they were kind enough to see us immediately. Sadly, my dear little guy was in a very bad way and he had to be put down. Dr. Dodge and his staff were incredibly helpful, respectful, caring, and very aware of how much this cat meant to me and how upset I was. I am deeply grateful for their pure class in this regard. They were very patient with me when I took a friend's dog in for treatment. Long story, but his girlfriend was dying and he had no money to pay for vet care for his dog. Scrappy-Do was running a super high fever and seemed to have something lodged in his throat. They x rayed, they palpated, they went over this mutt with a fine tooth comb. It turned out to be a simple infection. But in the process, they discovered a microchip and it turns out Scrappy Do was stolen somewhere in Minnesota. But that's another story.... Read Less

We have three dogs and two cats, and recently transferred our pet's veterinary needs to Jasper after a negative experience elsewhere.  We initially brought one of our dogs in for badly cut up and infected paw pads on one foot.  We were impressed immediately by Dr. Quint who provided informed options on the treatments available to us. We opted for surgery, which Dr. Quint performed.  The care our dog received was exceptional.  We know our dog liked it because when we took him for follow up visits he wasn't resistant at all.  The surgery result was excellent.  Dr. Quint was able to save the crucial parts of the damaged paw and our dog now walks totally normally. I was also happy that the surgery and care our dog received was very affordable.  In fact, our post surgery bill was on the low end of the range we were initially given.  Dr. Quint is a very knowledgeable, conscientious and capable veterinarian. Until a couple months ago, as a new  resident of Boulder County and a dog owner, I hadn't needed a vet.  My dog seemed to have a urinary tract infection, she needed to be tested.  A neighbor recommended Banfield at Petco, so I went there feeling it was an urgent matter.  It was a very traumatizing and impersonal visit for me.  They seemed to be more interested in selling me a health maintenance plan for my dog than the issue at hand.  When I declined the monthly payment plan, the vet came in.  She was not very friendly, and told me we needed to do a urine test.  The vet tech came back in again to advise me of how much it would cost and if we had to go to the next level, etc.  It was a ridiculous estimate in excess of $500.  she asked if the vet had explained that they were going to insert a needle in my dogs bladder to do the urine test.  At that point I said I was not going to do that, i really wanted to leave.  She said the Dr will be angry but Banfield offers a free consultation.  If you don't feel comfortable we will credit the visit and you are free to go elsewhere.  I profusely thanked her and left, I would have paid for the consultation if it was necessary just to get out of that place.  I went back home thinking I would contact our vet from home to get a recommendation.  While I was walking my dog, another neighbor Scottie Nicholas highly recommended Jasper Animal Hospital.  He gave me their number, I made a call and they got me right in.  From the reception on our experience was wonderful.  The staff helped me get my dog weighed, Dr. Quint and the vet tech were friendly and comforting.  We ended up with a tough infection that needed two courses of antibiotics to kick it but we got it done.  We returned for shots and most recently for a false alarm about worms.I can't say enough about this vet clinic.  Their priority is the pets health and the owners peace of mind.  I will and have recommended this vet especially we (me and Precious) like Dr. Quint and will ask for him if we he is in when we need a vet visit.  They don't try to oversell things and they are extremely accomodating.  You can trust these guys and gals to have your best interest at heart. Wonderful clinic! The front desk staff is helpful, knowledgable and friendly. The office is very clean and the veterinarians are fantastic. We saw Dr. Vestal and she was wonderful! She truly cares about the health and well-being of our Lab. He had to undergo spinal surgery and she checked in everyday for his first few days in the hospital to see how his recovery was going and she told us to expect another call on Monday after he returns home. My overall experience was alright, but the vet gave us some bad information. I specifically asked them to check my dog's teeth as I was concerned about him having this much decay at an early age. I suggested he get a dental cleaning, but the vet insisted there was nothing wrong with his teeth. I went and got a second opinion (other than his breath and the fact that his teeth look awful at less than 2 years old), and yes, he definitely needs a cleaning, and probably x-rays to make sure nothing went to the roots. Again, this is a 2-year old dog! I'm very disappointed in the quality of the care. If I'd paid extra to see them about the teeth this would be a 1-star rating. Read Less

I got to know Jasper Animal Hospital and its vets when I volunteered with a rescue group.  I was always impressed on how wonderful they were to my foster dogs and when the time came for me to find a vet closer to my home, I chose to take all 7 of my pets to Jaspers.  Dr. Vestal is my vet there and she recently helped me send my elderly kitty to the Bridge.  Margaux was almost 18 years old and had been suffering from kidney failure for a while.  When she finally let me know that she was ready to go, Dr. Vestal showed great compassion and allowed my husband and I time to prepare ourselves to letting her go and then gave us time alone with Margaux to say our final goodbyes.  The entire staff was very understanding and sensitive to our grieving.  We highly recommend this group not only for their knowledge in all things medicinal but also because of their compassion and love of all animals... The BEST vets I have ever had in over 30 years of dog guardianship! Dr. Dodge genuinely loves each animal he treats. All of the vets and techs get on the floor with my dogs, and give thorough examinations. When my beloved Oscar passed away overnight in 2012, Dr. Dodge took the time to call me and express his condolences and true sadness that Oscar was gone. The thing that stood out to me about this vet is how much they care about and want to connect with your pet. On the first visit Dr Dodge actually sat on the floor with our dog to pet him and get to know him! There wasn't even a table setup until the exam started, and then he pulled it down. When we returned to have our pet neutered the doctor called me two or three times that day to talk about the process and let me know how our dog was doing. We knew Dr. Dodge when he drove an old, broken down Subaru and before he moved into the new space.  Back then, he was friendly, compassionate, kind, caring...and because of these things, we personally referred over 200 potential new clients to his practice.  Over the past couple of years, this place has become increasingly unfriendly, unprofessional, and hypocritical.  We've heard Dr. Donald Dodge tell people: "If it's a choice between being able to pay for care, or not getting care, always bring your animal in.  We'll work it out."  Well, how far you've fallen, Dr. Dodge!  Harrassing your clients with phone calls, telling them you won't see their pets unless that client has a zero balance...in spite of regular payments every month?  One can only imagine that it's his most recent wife who is behind this sudden decrease in customer service...and in Dodge's unfortunate decline in personality.  We've gone from raving about the service here, to telling people to avoid it at all costs.  It's simply not worth the heartache in being treated like crap on the phone and in person.  Many MANY costly mistakes made on the part of the staff, with injury to pets.  Thankfully, we've found professional and courteous pet care elsewhere.  One can't help but wonder if Dr. Dodge remembers his humble beginnings...or remembers the idealistic practice he ran for many years before succumbing to this sort of charlatanism.  Sad, sad, sad... Best vets ever!  Every vet in this hospital has been amazing for my four dogs & cat. All of my friends take their pets here so when I needed a vet I naturally went there & was not disappointed.  They are loving & uber attentive with emergency and check up needs.  They call ME to follow up after an appointment or make sure one of my dogs or cat is doing ok, even in an emergency setting to go as far as to give me their personal cell phone numbers.  They're understanding about my schedule and do everything possible to make the experience great.  Also, for several friends that have had to put their animals down due to sickness or old age, after trying everything to save the pet or make the end of their lives comfortable, they will come to the house to ensure the pet feels safe & happy in their last moments :) Read Less

We took our first Golden, Sadie, to Jasper after trying to get her help at several other area vets - Dr. Dodge and his staff helped us manage Sadie's autoimmune deficiencies, her splenectomy/cholecystectomy, and...later in life...her liver cancer so that Sadie had an amazing quality of life. JAH has been our vet for years. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Everyone is clearly competent and well trained. I am always reminded of when my pet is in need of something far in advance to I have time to make an appointment that works with my busy schedule. I never have to worry about what my pet needs because JAH keeps track of everything for me. When we go in, she is treated with as much love and care as I give. Staff always gives me care recommendations stressing which are very important and never judge me if I choose not to follow a recommendation. Before adding an additional pet to the family I call seeking information and am never turned away. Plethora of hypersensitive, poorly trained vet techs open up the possibility of little Fido nipping someone's hand during a procedure. This clinic will promply file charges against you for having a vicious dog, which means little Fido will be put to sleep! After visiting several vets in Denver I went all the way out to visit Dr. Dodge based on a friends recommendation. It was, from start to finish, a great experience. He was very knowledgeable, and after a few quick diagnoses of my dog's issues, had me wondering why I had to spend so much money for tests & x-rays at other vets.
