Dr. Dave and his staff are amazing! He spent a very good amount of time with us during our first appointment, was very thorough, and detailed about my dogs'. We have since been back for several different appointments and could not be happier we have found Dr. Dave!!! He is, hands down, the best vet I have worked with. I have referred him to some friends out of state, and he's helped a dog who had very little success in treating incredibly severe allergies. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! PS -- to the reviewer that gave them a low rating because YOU missed your appointment, how about having some courtesy and calling to cancel. My dog had an open wound and had been treated by 4 different vets that couldn't help. I was desperate to help my 4lb dog, who had already almost died under anesthesia at a previous experience. Yes, I missed my appointment...and they charged me a full $68 for the visit where all he does is listen to my dog's heart and does nothing else. I will take ownership that I missed my appointment, but when she called me, she was utterly rude to me for missing my appointment. Maybe you bothered to care about your clients you would have asked if everything was ok because I have been going through personal stress of my own. Also, when my dog got sick and I had to take her to emergency, the doctor called back and made suggestions, but he made no follow-up call to see how she was doing. And when he did call the first time to make suggestions...he talk to me like I was an utter idiot for allowing CSU to tell me my dog needed endoscopy. How am I suppose to know? Too bad that you guys are just utterly rude to your clients. I should have charged you $68 for making me wait for nearly 30 minutes after the visit with he vet and waiting for my credit card to be run! I am taking my business elsewhere. Dr. Dave has taken great care of our two dogs. Louie was an overweight 12-year-old mixed breed with a torn ACL,. Dr. Dave gave us an effective weight loss diet for Louie and treated him with acupuncture. Louie's pain and limp disappeared in a matter of a few weeks. Very disappointed. I had hoped this doctor was a wholistic vet but I was fooled. I brought in my dog with allergies and he prescribed antibiotics for her. What a joke. I gave her the full round, killed all her good bacteria, and the dermatitis came back with the allergies a few days after the last dose. If you want to help your dog and fix the underlying condition instead putting a bandaid on the symptoms I suggest you stay clear of these people Read Less

There is no vet anywhere better than Dr. Dave McCluggage.  He recently saved my dog's eye. The dog was very close to losing his vision because of an eye ulcer another vet had failed to treat properly.  Dr. McCluggage's staff acted quickly to get us in to see him. They were sensitive and responsive to our needs.  Years ago Dave also saved my beloved Aussie who had the worst case of hip dysplasia recorded in the Penn Hip Study that included 44 other Aussies. The dog ran and played pain free for many years. She also loved him dearly, as most animals do.  I will never forget how my little dog, who was scared to have his eye touched, nevertheless must have sensed something about Dave, because he went up to him and licked his face and then snuggled against his chest. One of the finest holistic-leaning animal vets you'll encounter. Spend 5 minutes with Dave (who used to work at a zoo) and you'll see why we drive from Denver to Longmont to get the level of care we want for our animals. I highly recommend going here if you've had a bad experience with a traditional vet (like we did), or if you've been duped into thinking you have to shell out massive amounts of cash to sustain the livelihood of your animal. I've seen Dave help a featherless bird grow it's feathers back with acupuncture. I've seen him help a 165 lb Irish wolfhound come back from kidney issues by changing the dog's diet. I have taken my little "Family Members" to Dr. Dave for at least 8yrs.  I have felt for a long time that there are conditions that should go regular Veterinarian care  & then conditions that should be dealt with on alternative ways. You will NEVER find another Dr. who is as knowledgeable as he is.  He has decades with "Both" Veterinarian & Holistic/Alternative medicine. He will ALWAYS go with the most cost effective way first & work from there.  We had a Older dog that a Veterinarian Specialist in Cancer had given up on her after taking most of her Bladder.  She lived another 4yrs with Dr. Dave's care.  The Specialist gave her months to live.  This Dr. Is the ONLY PERSON in Colorado and I'm sure many many States who has (all) this knowledge.  I just wish I could get a Medical Dr. "For me" who  has so much knowledge on Western & Eastern Medicine, such as Dr. Dave does. We have been going to "Dr. Dave" as his patients refer to him, for the past year or so in addition to using other excellent veterinary services in Longmont and the environs - including Longs Peak Animal Hospital and Aspen Meadows. We first took our asthmatic cat, who had been on steroids for two years and was not really improving at all. We had "tried everything" our regular vet recommended. All I can say is that I wish we'd taken her to Dr. Dave in the first place. She is no longer taking prednisolone, which would have shortened her life and was making her unwell. Dr. Dave placed her on a totally different regime and her asthma has all but ceased. She is doing so much better, it's amazing. We also have a puppy with a sensitive digestion, who had numerous vet visits with severe diarrhea over several months. After two rounds of antibiotics and all manner of lab work-ups, we took her to Dr. Dave, wanting another perspective. He asked questions our regular vet didn't, and the rest is history. Our puppy is completely better.Dr. Dave is very sound in his reasoning and clearly has a vast breadth of experience. He seems perfectly happy to work in conjunction with regular vets, and will advise on which vets may be good to see for any procedures he doesn't do himself. He doesn't waste your time and money on redundant diagnostics, but also doesn't skip these steps if he feels they are definitely called for. Dr. Dave is now an indispensable component of our pet care and we very much appreciate his common sense perspective and holistic approach. After spending some $700 on vet costs elsewhere for our puppy's belly problems - with a zero improvement, it was both refreshing and startling to have the problem solved within 48 hours after just one consultation at Chaparral. You may find Dr. Dave a tad unconventional, but if you've been getting nowhere with a health issue following your regular vet's advice, you may be surprised by what Dr. Dave can bring to the picture. Dr Mccluggage is great! He has saved me a ton of money and has been a huge help. He is very  knowledgeable, patient, and willing to help me understand what is going on with my pets and explain things to me, which is a big deal to me. He does not rush his appointments; he gives you plenty of time. He also does not push unnecessary procedures, he in fact will not perform something that he does not think is necessary. He has yet to be wrong about a diagnosis- and I have brought in a few weird problems. He has proved other vets very wrong in their diagnosis though! They are very reasonably priced as well. He sticks more to natural care and has greatly helped my dogs. I highly recommend him! Read Less
