Throughout the last twelve years, we have been blessed to have Dr. Hartwig (Tender Loving Care Animal Hospital [TLC]) and her staff as our veterinarian clinic and partner in caring for our two corgis, Cooper and Sophie. Cooper and Sophie were opposite in their personalities and Dr. Hartwig took the time to get to know them individually as well as together to provide the best care possible, to include recommendations on behavior modification. Through ongoing conversations, Dr. Hartwig has also gotten to know my husband and I very well and we have developed a trusting relationship over the years. We value the advice we received in the care of our corgis. I have so many good things to say about Dr. Hartwig that I could write 100 positive reviews for her and her staff. For this one, I will focus on the compassion and care we received when saying goodbye to both Cooper and Sophie, in separate situations and completely different circumstances.Cooper was a little over 9 when we woke up one morning and something was clearly wrong with him and he was under great distress. It was about 7am and I called Dr. Hartwig's office and left a message. Within 5 minutes, she called me back and said to immediately bring him in - which we did. From there, we took him to the Emergency Hospital and when we realized that everything extraordinary we could do that day would not save him, Dr. Hartwig recommended that we spend a few hours at home with him and then bring him to her office. Cooper loved Dr. Hartwig and never minded that she would poke and prod him. Like all other appointments, we had with Dr. Hartwig, she made that appointment all about him and we were very comfortable in her office saying good bye.Recently, we had to say good bye to our other corgi, Sophie. Through an annual routine physical that Dr. Hartwig encourages once dogs become seniors, we discovered the beginnings of issues with her kidneys. Dr. Hartwig carefully designed a treatment plan for Sophie; cautious not to put Sophie through unnecessary tests as well as being thoughtful of costs. Over the course of 9 months, we monitored and tested Sophie when appropriate to try and stay ahead of her disease. As a family, our goal was to ensure Sophie was happy and to not get to the point of distress like Cooper experienced. Dr. Hartwig said it would be hard on us to go through this illness and respected/supported our decision to do whatever it was to keep her happy and comfortable without extraordinary measures that wouldn't be best for Sophie. Dr. Hartwig took the time to explain what may happen with Sophie so that we could watch for signs and know when it was time to say good bye. That day came in February when Sophie's blood test showed that the kidneys were not getting better despite the treatment we were doing and she was starting to show signs of cardiovascular distress with an elevated heart rate/high blood pressure. The hardest part, her insides were failing her, yet she looked happy and healthy on the outside and was still chasing her ball and doing her normal things. With the compassion and support of Dr. Hartwig, we made the hardest decision ever, to say good bye when all appearances were that she was fine, so Sophie would not be in distress. When we look back, the signs were there that Sophie was ready-as her eating and sleeping habits had changed a few weeks before as well as a few other signs that Dr. Hartwig mentioned could happen. With Dr. Hartwig's guidance and support, we have great peace of mind knowing that we did the right thing for Sophie and did not put her through more than she could handle. We respected Sophie's needs over ours and said good bye much earlier than we would have liked. It took a couple months for me to be ready to pick up Sophie's ashes. Dr. Hartwig asked that I set up an appointment with her when I was ready so she and I could spend some time remembering Sophie together, which I recently did. Dr. Hartwig cares, not only about her furry patients, but for their families. She truly is a compassionate, kind, caring professional who listens to the pet owners during and between visits to ensure she can provide the best care possible to both the pets and their families. She is never too busy for her patients. I highly recommend Dr. Hartwig and TLC to anyone that wants only the best for their pets. Read Less
