I grew up on a horse farm and have a deep connection, respect and love for all animals. Recently our beloved 21 year-old cat showed signs of a steep health decline, something similar happened a few years ago and we ran a ton of tests at CSU, did sub-q treatments, meds and diet adjustments and she rallied. She lived 2 very happy and healthfully uneventful years -- so considering her age and her condition, and with the bad days starting to overtake the good and our feeling that she was starting to suffer, that all her siblings have died and our feeling that tests and treatments similar to what she went thru a few years ago were not in her best interest for a good quality of life; my family and I made the heartbreaking decision that it was her time. When we took her in to valley veterinary south on ken pratt, where I've taken my dogs to Dr. Peila for many years with respect and trust and great care for which I'll always be grateful -- But this time, when we brought our very old and failing cat in to be put down, with tears and great deliberation, the vet we got was awful - absolutely a nightmare of a human being. She - in front of my 9-year-old child, with whom this cat slept every night of his life - questioned and challenged our decision to the point that my son is sincerely traumatized - she qualified her statements by saying "something is wrong with her, but she's doing very well for her age" and made me feel like a monster for considering euthanasia - she challenged my account of her age - even though I had documentation and documentation, records and bills of her kidney failure 3 years ago - she recommended a slew of tests and medication and on and on and on, doubted that she ever suffered from kidney failure (??!!) and. I won't go on, the point is - this woman took one of the worst days of our lives, prolonged our visit and made it infinitely worse with her asinine attitude and lack of candor in front of a child - who has been violently ill and conflicted as a result of her suggestions and arguments. Dr. Peila's excellence cannot override the trauma my son and I endured at this place. absolutely the worst veterinary experience of my entire life. shameful and abominable. Read Less
