I now know why they only have three stars. I took my puppy to the Pueblo Area Pet Emergency last night (12/30/2020) because I was worried
he was dying of parvovirus. After waiting nearly 30 minutes for someone to come out they didn't come out to check my puppy, they came out to take my drivers license, SS number, and take care of paperwork to make sure they got paid. Another 15-20 minutes went by they finally came out with the parvovirus test kit. After another 10-15 minutes they returned and told me the test was negative, and the puppy probably ate something that didn't agree with him. I was relieved to hear the news, and was told I needed to wait to talk to the vet on the phone. Another 10-15 minutes went by, and the vet called only to tell me my puppy was dying from parvovirus, and I needed to take him to the ER in Colorado Springs immediately, not to wait I needed to go now! That's what we done. We left immediately without waiting like the vet said. As we're heading towards Colorado Springs I called the Pueblo Area Pet Emergency back for directions only to be told I needed to turn around, come back, and sign the bill, and they would give me the name and address to the ER in Colorado Springs. We turned around and went back taking another 15-20 minutes just so they can have my signature. On our way back to Colorado Springs my little puppy cried out in pain and then died in my arms. We drove on to Colorado Springs with me holding the dead puppy only to hand him over for cremation at the ER. The next day (12/31/2020) I called Pueblo Area Pet Emergency to ask why they insisted on us turning around and coming back rather than giving us the address we desperately needed. They first got upset and hung up on me. I called back and spoke to someone else who was willing to listen, but when I was finished he blamed me for following the vets orders and leaving for Colorado Springs immediately and not signing the bill.
They could have given me the name and address when we were on the road so I could have gotten my puppy there quicker, but instead they needed my signature so they could receive payment. They put profit over my puppy. They had everything they needed to bill me. They had my licences, my address, and my SS number, but it wasn't enough, they needed my signature. The two people I talked to never once offered me sympathy for the loss of my puppy. They
only said sorry you feel that way when I told them I was going to write this review. They'll most likely have a rebuttal claiming it's my fault for walking the dog where I shouldn't have, or I waited to long to bring him in or I left in a hurry and should have waited on them to come back out. All of this might be true, and I accept full responsibility. What I won't accept is their callous actions, and their excuse for making us turn around and coming back before they would give me the address we needed. They showed no compassion for me or my puppy. Now I owe $155 for a parvovirus test they said was negative only for my puppy to die in my arms from parvovirus minutes later.
There're two other pet emergency clinics in Pueblo. I wish I'd went to one of those instead of the Pueblo Area Pet Emergency. My little puppy might still be alive today. I recommend anyone reading this review do what I didn't and go somewhere else other than Pueblo Area Pet Emergency. Read Less
