I waited 45 minutes past my scheduled appointment only for the vet to refuse to examine my dog. My dog shyed away twice becuase he is young and didn't know what was going on. Dr stroberg(very tall older man) then refused to examine my dog and was extremely rude. My dog knew that man wasn't trust worthy and he was right. The guy was "afraid of getting bit" even though my dog didn't raise his hackles, growl, or bear teeth. He literally just shyed away. The old lady that i ran ...into on the way out stopped and petted my dog with no issue. The vets here are a joke. If you are going to get paid to be a vet, do your job! I recommend going somewhere else. The staff up front are great and very friendly and understanding. I wish the lady's up front were the vets I would take my dog there for everything. But they aren't. I, Marisa took my two small dogs to get their rabies shots and nails trimmed there and they were able to get us in right away. We were greeted very kindly and a parrot "MEOWED"!😄 My dogs are kind of diva/o dogs and the technician and assistant were very thorough and thoughtful towards me and my babies! Last year I would've given Animal Central five stars. But yesterday we picked up our dog after he had surgery here, and we heard the vet swearing and yelling at his employees behind closed doors. Daycare and kennel staff are AMAZING, but we will not go back after yesterday. They charged us $1200 (over double our original estimate). My dog Una absolutley loves coming here. She actually pushed me out of the way to hurry up out the car to go to Doggie Daycare. Occasionally I have needed to take her to Petsmart for Doggie Daycare and she will not go in (whines to leave immediately). She knows when she is headed for Doggie Daycare and will talk the entire way there. We actually can't go that way when we dont take her because she gets too excited. I recently read through all of the reviews on this site. I have brought 5 of my dogs to this clinic and never had any problems. They have great day care and the vet technicians! I think what people need to realize is everyone makes mistakes! A lot of these reviews are very one sided and don't tell the whole story. If there isn't a doctor there they can't do a surgery! It is against the law and they can't do anything about it. George hires people to sit in the front to pick up your dog's from day care; not just to sit there. Also if she hadn't stood there arguing with the people at the front desk she could have gotten her pet to another place even quicker! Enough is enough! We need common sense people. My dog goes to daycare here, is boarded here and has all his medical needs taken care of at Animal Central. The staff is great, the facilities are large, clean and well maintained. My dog goes crazy every time we drive up to the building, tail madly wagging and pulling me towards the door. These guys are the best! Read Less

I used to bring my dog here regularly for a few years and the staff used to be great. The staff has changed and become extremely inconsistent. One time when I dropped my dog off, the front desk told me I could get her by noon and not be charged for the day, and when I got there an hour early, I was told the time was 9am and was charged. Most recently however, my dog sitter got my dog from their daycare and said she was limping badly. It turned out she tore her ACL and needs surgery. I called them to find out about her activities and the people I spoke with had no idea specific to my dog. They kept reciting the daycare schedule to me. It used to be a place I trusted. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS FACILITY! I am wishing there is a zero stars rating. I have been bringing my dog to doggy day care for quite a while. He was injured there last week significantly enough that he required suturing while under sedation. When I called them to find out more about the injury, they were unable to tell me what happened. Was he bit? Did he fall? Did an employee hurt him? They had no clue and/or were unwilling to disclose the cause of his injury. I paid to have my dog watched and cared for while in their facility and yet when he was hurt while in their care, they told me they would be charging ME over $500 to get his wounds repaired. How could that be? You hurt my dog and now I have to pay? I had my REAL vet on the phone ready to treat him when I walked in an was told that the Animal Central office manager approved a 50% discount if we had him treated there. I should have said no thank you and continued onto my vet. However, under the stress of the situation I agreed to treat him there. As we left after the surgical procedure, we were told that the office manager and the owner would meet and discuss this case that possibly we would be reimbursed if they were able to determine the cause of the injury. The very next day, the owner ,Dr. Stroberg, called my daughter and was extremely rude and began yelling at her telling her that we still owed them another $250! He said their cameras don't work and yet their receptionists said they were hoping to review the footage to determine the cause of injury. Interesting that both stories were so different. After all this, Dr. Stroberg insisted that we are on the hook for the balance for an injury that occurred due to no fault of mine or my dog's. I am absolutely flabbergasted by this atrocious behavior and unprofessionalism. I will NEVER again bring my pets anywhere near this place and would highly recommend you stay away as well. Our pup had laryngal paralysis which we have been able to manage for the last year. Last night he had an acute attack and was really struggling to breath. Animal Central is the closest "emergency" vet to us and we knew we did not have long. We pulled into their parking lot at 7:15 and just as my husband was explaining what was going on and being told they are open but have no vets there to see animals our dog quit breathing. I begged for them to take him back and at least try to get him some oxygen and help him breath. The girl at the front counter was HORRIBLE and kept saying she was not authorized to administer care and neither were the techs. She also said that "if we would quit arguing and go to the other urgent care we could have been there already". Remember we are at 104th and Wadsworth and the emergency vet is on 124th and Washington, we had been in their lobby MAYBE 5 minutes. As my dog is dying in their lobby she yells that he is still moving and we need to go, well he was convulsing from suffocating and dying, he was not MOVING. I asked her if she could euthanize him so he would not suffer, nope could not do that either. I asked why the hell they were open and advertised emergency care if there was no one to care for the animals. She said vets can't work 24/7, well you are right, then CLOSE YOUR FRICKING DOORS!!!!!! I would put a call in to the clinic, but it is an absolute waste, Dr Stroberg doesn't care, he is just making a buck. There are so many good choices in doggy daycare and veterinarians, please choose one of the other clinics and facilities around. These people should be shut down. i will be looking into where and how to report this incident to the necessary boards. This clinic is bad news. We were clients here for 6 years.They overcharge, lie and scam. Our dog had dental extractions here. He was suppose to have 2 teeth removed. They charged us originally $1200. Once my dog was in surgery they called and charged us another $650 to remove 2nd tooth. What makes his a horror story is when we came to pick up the dog and talk about what they did it was apparent that they whited out our paperwork and put 1 tooth for extraction. Not only was it obvious the vet leaped across the table and literally ripped our estimate sheet that we went home with that showed the 2nd tooth on it for the original price of $1200. Long story short cops were called, and we won our credit card dispute. When we wrote a negative review we had to call the cops again for harassment from an employee's boyfriend as he threatened us over our review. I have waited 2 years to write this review as I feel safe now not living in the state. This place is a scam!!!Read Less

I am not one to leave reviews unless my experience somewhere is stellar. Unfortunately this was not the case with Animal Central. My 7 year old bichon was attacked yesterday by a dog a friend was fostering. She ended up with 3 gaping wounds, one of which was bleeding profusely. I walked into the facility and was asked to fill out paperwork with blood all over me and my hands full with my pup. This was just the beginning, the whole experience left me feeling as if the staff just thought she had a chipped tooth versus three wounds that as someone with no medical experience immediately assumes are life threatening. They took her back without saying much until they returned saying we could wait around or they could call us with an "estimate" when the doc knew more. At no point had anyone come out to tell me she was going to be okay yet, I truly had no idea if her bites were life threatening or not. The whole experience just left me feeling as if the paperwork, logistics and money were far more important than letting me know my girl was going to be okay. I am not one who needs someone to hold my hand and console me through anything but I would like to feel as if the staff was going to treat her as more than a payment. The bill for the situation was $700+ and I had to return the next morning (30 minute drive from my home) because her tape job started to expose one of her wide open wounds. They charged me for the tape they used when they had just put the original on hours before. Honestly, the only way to sum up the experience is a complete lack of bedside manner. I felt nickel and dimed the entire time. The girls at the front desk did the best they could but were running around flustered because the clinic was busier than anticipated. I did my best to empathize with the situation but honestly my only concern was making sure my dog would be going home with me and no one at any point mentioned much more than how much anything would cost or how long they would be keeping her. I just wish the situation could have been handled with more empathy, If there is any place that should understand how important a pet's life is to their owner it is at a vet clinic. Read Less

We take our dog Oakley to daycare frequently. She comes home from daycare completely exhausted=happy dog=happy guardians. It's obvious that the staff take really great care of her while we are away. After our house fire a few years ago, we boarded our remaining pets here for an extended stay while we loved in a hotel. They took care of our parrot, dog and cat. I'm a new dog owner that had a horrible experience at another doggie day care, so I was a bit neurotic the first time I brought my dog here. The staff at Animal Central gave me a thorough tour and was very polite and reassuring with my onslaught of questions. My dog loves going here and she falls asleep in the car 5 seconds after I pick her up, so I know that she plays all day long. I like that they have cameras so I can check in on my pup. Read Less

For some people pets are like family. You can count me in that group; so veterinary care and services are very important to me. I have been an Animal Central customer for going on 3 years and have used a range of services: dog boarding, dog daycare, veterinary care for my cats and dog. My cat and dog are both now covered in the preventative care plan. These plans are hard to find and I'm happy with the peace of mind it has brought me. I give all services 5 stars as well as the staff. The staff is freaking awesome, Dr Wendt, Debbie, Megan, Kendra, Carli just to name a few. I started taking my Rooney to Dr. Pei at Animal Central about 4~5 years ago. Rooney has a rare allergy to human dander and Dr. Pei was instrumental in diagnosing and treating Rooney's allergies. Animal Central placed a service call with my company. We came out and diagnosed the problem, which included both labor and material. We placed collection calls for a one year period with very little response. When Dr. Stroberg did return my call (approx. one year after the service was provided), he claimed we had done the work incorrectly and he refused to pay the invoice. Not once did we receive a call regarding faulty workmanship, faulty equipment or poor customer service. We cut a deal to pick up the equipment, but were stuck with the labor! My advice to anyone providing Animal Central with any kind of service - GET YOUR PAYMENT AT TIME OF SERVICE OR THEY WILL COME UP WITH A REASON NOT TO PAY YOU! Dr. Pei was very good to us, and the staff are generally friendly.... but we won't be going back. In short, we believe Dr. Stroberg (the surgeon) overcharges outrageously, uses scare tactics, and is competent but cares more about his bottom line than the care of the animal. - In our initial consultation with Dr Pei we were told that 5 lumps on our Miniature Schnauzer would cost about $730 to remove in a written estimate. We were told it probably wasn't necessary unless the lumps increased in size. The lumps grew, and 6 months later we dropped our dog off for surgery, and were told that our ""estimate would have to be reviewed with Dr. Stroberg."". Long story short: it ended up costing $1300! - Insult to injury: we had a protective E-Collar (cone) for our dog once he got home, and the vet tech said it wouldn't be necessary to charge us for one if we brought it to them. Dr. Stroberg disagreed, and insisted on charging us $15.50. This E-Collar ended up tearing into our poor dogs skin because it is fastened with a string, and it was so tight that he couldn't move without it rubbing into him. The dog was in recovery from surgery, they used a collar that hurt him further, and charged us for it! - Ursula, the woman who runs the front counter, always complains about how busy she is and never returns calls in a timely manner. She took a call while we were there, complained to the people on the phone how busy she was, then got ""busy"" complaining to me about how loud the bird is. We have repeatedly not received information in a timely manner or when promised, even in urgent situations. - The last straw was that unfortunately we had an urgent matter w/ our dog again (coughed up blood) and my fiancee hesitantly took him in, only to be hit with a ~$450 diagnostic test series, without options initially. They recommended that we run the full gammet of testing and Dr. Stroberg himself badgered me later for not doing it. We ended up only doing the blood work at a much lower price, but feeling like we might be putting our dog's life at risk. Later, when I asked Dr. Stroberg to explain results in a non-technical manner, he was rude and said ""I'm sorry, I thought you wanted to understand what was going on with your dog."" After some explanation, he admitted that it was most likely a parasite and a more expeditious route would be to simply give him medication. This likely saved us a couple hundred dollars! - If you want to judge for yourself, call their phone number. At the time of this writing, if you are put on hold, you might hear an advertisement about how not cleaning your dog's teeth will shorten it's life! Ridiculous. I hope that you find this useful. Please consider another vet before you go here, or at least ask for Dr. Pei instead, as he was good to us but not the doctor in charge. After reading this review on another website, he proceeded to chastise my fiancee (not me) for writing this review, and in my opinion, acted childish and unprofessionally. Read Less

We brought our dog in because she wasn't able to urinate, although we brought her thinking she couldn't have a bowel movement. Xray's showed her bladder was full, so the doctor advised that we tap the bladder to relieve it, which was the right choice. The problem started immediately after the tap, as our dog was then bent over in pain and could barely move. When she went back for the procedure she was spunky and OK. I truly believe that Dr. Stroberg knew full well what happened as a result of his doing the tap. He prescribed steroids and antibiotics for the pain, which is apparently aggressive. However it was the end of the day and he had better things to do. This happened on a Saturday. It is now Monday and our dog is dead after having been in emergency care since midnight Saturday. She underwent a surgery at 2AM. She passed away at 5:30PM Monday. I hope that Dr. Stroberg retires soon before he causes another death with his obvious disregard for the well being of his patients. I recommend that you will NOT take your pet to this facility. Their phone number is advertised as 303-469-PETS and they are on Church Ranch road. Their facility is indeed wonderful and their office staff are great. I'm sure they have quality doctors. Dr. Stroberg is well spoken and well reasoned. But the undisputable fact is his actions lead to the death of our family pet. I hope his Saturday evening was worth it.
