Our dog has been under Dr. Hammond’s care for over 2 years now, and we couldnt be happier. He saved her eye when she somehow got a thorn lodged in it, and then a year later diagnosed her with pannus and has been treating it successfully with steroid eye drops. Emily (at the front) is wonderful, kind and professional; and Dr. Hammond is an excellent veterinary ophthalmologist who takes time to answer all our questions and did a remarkable job on her eye surgery. highly recommended! Why a wondrous hospital with superlative experience and care for animals. With decades of practice and education behind his back Dr. Hammond excels in standard ophthalmic procedures to the most extensive emergencies. Staff is friendly as the day is long and always willing to work with your schedule and ease your experience, "after all, vision for your dog is not a soft-spoken predicament." This clinic refused to make an appointment for my boarder collie whom is part of our family and urgently having severe eye issues. As reported by the clinic, they do not partake in second opinions as my dog was currently being treated by another doctor and therefore is not as critical as other issues. This seem illogical considering the circumstances of the situation; I am disheartened by their lack of willingness to help to find a solution and turning down a dog in distress. All I want to do is save his eye sight. Read Less

I am always impressed by Dr. Hammond's ability to connect with my pets.  Eye issues are (from what my DVM mother tells me) incredibly painful and probably feel like the worst headache imaginable.  That being said, my painful pets have never acted scared around Dr. Hammond or his team.  We like the charm of the 'house turned office', and I really think it helps my pets too.  Maybe they think they're visiting a friend instead of a vet?  I'll never know for sure but judging by the way they act and are treated at The Eye Clinic, I'm certain they feel at ease when visiting. My dog had a splinter in her eye and started having lots of redness and drainage. Dr. Hammond saw her and immediately diagnosed what was wrong. Given the urgency of the situation, he was able to do surgery that same day. She has had a smooth and perfect recovery, and we are so grateful that Dr. Hammond was able to save her eye. Furthermore, the price of the surgery was fair and I have nothing but fabulous things to say about the ladies at the front desk - they treated our pet like family and every time she went in she got lots of attention and treats! I found the eye clinic through the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists, and there are very few ophthalmologists in our area. When I called to make an appointment I was told by your snotty receptionist that the vet does not allow or take appointments for second opinions and we should go back to the first doctor we saw. Last year after a costly visit at VRCC we were told our dog's glaucoma would not affect her in her lifetime. She now is visibly uncomfortable, has discharge in one of her eyes, and the white spots on both of her eyes have spread. Shame on you eye clinic, for telling us to go back to a place that has a monopoly on specialty care, VRCC, which several families are having bad experiences with, refusing our dog and her chance to get a second opinion and therefore causing her more suffering as we continue to search for vets specializing in ophthalmology. I've never heard of ANY doctor, vet or otherwise, telling patients they can not be seen if they are coming to you for a second opinion. Also, fix the typos on your site, very unprofessional.Read Less

My shih tzu, Dottie, recently experienced eye problems. My vet recommended me to Dr. Hammond. Even though they are normally booked weeks in advance, he made time to see her the day I called. He showed great concern for her eye problem (which ended up being an ulcer), as well as for her general health (we're still waiting on blood work through our vet to see if she has other issues that caused the problem). It has been five days since he first saw her. She is still on medication, but her eye is doing much better. He asked to see her three days after she began her medication, and I was pleasantly surprised to not be charged for that visit. She will be going back to see him in ten days. I will definitely refer others to him and go back to him if we need his service again. As a bird lover with several bird feeders in my backyard, I was also glad to see that he has a feeder outside of his office, and according to the woman at the desk, he is the one who feeds them regularly. I give him extra points for that! Read Less

I came in because my dog has bleeding in his eyes and has gone blind because of it. I had originally gone to my own vet (and paid over $100), but if I had known about this place I would have come here first. The doctor was really nice, a bit quiet, but nice. I ended up paying around $130 and all I got was a few pills to hopefully stop the bleeding, so that price seems steep, especially because it might not even help at all. I'm not sure where to begin with this review. These people are some of the most caring and compassionate folks I've ever dealt with when it comes to the care of my pet. Long story short, my beloved kitty, Baby, had to have one of her eyes removed due to melanoma. We noticed a freckle slowly taking over her eye over the course of 7 years and until recently she seemed quite fine. After a thorough exam, lab tests and ruling out metastases with an x-ray, Dr.  Hammond  successfully removed her eye. The whole process went smoothly and we cannot thank Maureen enough for the frequent status updates and post surgery phone call. Our precious cat is down one eyeball and seems to be doing just fine. She had a speedy recovery and we owe it all to the doctor and staff at The Eye Clinic. Thank you so much! Read Less
